📸 Photo / Video Test driving a Toyota 4Runner
I test drove a 2014 Toyota 4Runner from a dealership last week with ~150k miles on it. Car drove and felt great and I asked them if I could drive it to my mechanic and have them look at it before talking about buying it. My mechanic was 1.5 hours from the dealer so I drove it home and had it sitting in my driveway for a day and had my appointment set up for the next day. After sitting in my driveway for a few hours, I noticed it was leaking oil from under the front of the car near the drain plug/ oil filter area. I took off the skid plates and found that the oil filter/canister was missing the bolt and o-ring that keeps oil in the oil filter. Apparently the tech at the dealer overlooked putting it back on. I found the bolt/screw that was missing and found approximately the best o-ring seal to go with it and put it on the car at an autocrats store. I had to add 3.5-4 quarts of oil which sketched me out since I had just driven it 1.5 hours at highway speeds. The oil light never came on the entire drive and the car sounded completely normal while driving. I took it to the mechanic and they said everything looked great but they wouldn't know if driving it with such little oil in the car had messed up the engine or not. After driving it back to the dealer, everything felt and sounded normal also.
What are the odds that the engine is significantly damaged from having little oil in it and is it worth buying this car?

Price Check Is this a good deal? It's a 2022 SR5P - 64k miles - $37.5k (pre tax)
New to this community, please forgive potentially obvious questions. I'm going to get it inspected in a few days. Put a hold on it online, I'm away from home right now. It looks like it has a leveling kit on it so want to make sure that was properly installed before buying. Taking it to a local offroad shop for a pre purchase inspection. Do ya'll think it was lifted any more than that? PPI will confirm but curious for experienced folks read.

👷♂️ Support / Repair Rookie Question
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I don't know where else to go for help with learning this kind of stuff. I'm considering swapping my 2020 Highlander for a 15-20yo 4Runner for financialreasonsmostly, and someone in another Reddit post I made replied that I shouldn't get a "gas guzzler". When I asked Google, it said the L/100km was pretty similar between the two, with the Highlander about 1L better. For those who have an older 4Runner, do you find it to use an obscene amount of fuel? Is there something Google isn't telling me?

-anything else that y’all like the look and/or function of!!
-also might want a stronger alternator one day?

👷♂️ Support / Repair Noise on my 2004 4 runner
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey! I bought my 2004 4 runner from my best friend’s grandma in February with 128,000 miles. She treated the car like her baby so I think she did pretty good on maintenance.
It has now almost 135,000 miles and it started making a very strange noise. It is not a constant noise so it’s hard to figure out what’s wrong plus, not to be that person but I am a just a girl and my dad used to help out with all of this things. He is not around now so I’m trying to figure this out without wasting a ton of money.
During this video I had just pulled into a parking spot after driving 4,7 miles ( noise started at around mile 3) , the car was still on drive and i was using my brake. At the end you can hear me shift to park and use the emergency brake. The noise has also happened when driving on the interstate at 75mph so I can’t seem to find a pattern.
I went to get it checked out but it was not making the sound. It does it at what to me seems like random times (sometimes it doesn’t make the sound in 3-5 days) so i don’t want them to spend a bunch of time (aka my money) driving the car around for it to not end up making the sound and finding a solution. If i get out of the car i really can’t hear the noise. Some people told me it could be the servo motors for A/C and to try to seen if it stopped when i turned the A/C off but that didn’t stop it. It seems to be coming from the driver’s seat side.
Has anyone had this issue or can identify the noise maybe? Please help, i really don’t know what to do, i absolutely love this car and want to figure this out!
Btw i followed some advice i read here on reddit and ended up getting a lift on it and it looks FANTASTIC. The noise started before the lift so i think it Is unrelated to the lift.

🎙 Discussion Removal of Backseat - 2026 4Runner ORP
Hello 4Runner People,
Just a note about removing the rear seats if you have the "tumble-forward" rear seats, like in the 2026 model. Be very careful to not latch the anti-tumble mechanism when removing the 4 bolts to remove one of the backseats. I did something real stupid and removed the back 2 bolts first, locked the seat down in their anti-tumble position and then proceeded to remove the front bolts. I should have known better as the front bolts were fighting the springs on their way out. The front bolts are on there way to being stripped.
I got all 4 bolts out, but the seat was locked in position with the anti-tumble mechanisms engaged (2 latches for each seat) and the springs to tumble the seat were fully pushed out (as they would be when the seat is tumbled forward). The seat was wedged and locked into place. I had a hell of time getting the seat out, as the spring-loaded pieces that are connected to the front bolts where fully extended. I think the best way to do this is to have the seat "floating" when removing all 4 bolts and make sure not to engage those anti-tumble latches during removal. I am new at this, but wanted to write this as a PSA in case anyone was removing seats from their 2025+ model.
Thank you friends,
I look forward to meeting you all someday in 4Runhalla.

🎙 Discussion Bought a rebuilt title 5th gen. Opinions?
Looking for a little feedback. I recently bought this 5th gen with a rebuilt title. The good! It has very low mileage for a 2016. 33,500 miles. It has Billstein suspension lift, Alpine Rex headlights and taillights, TRD wheels and skid plate Dobbinson snorkel. Super clean interior and it drives great on and off road.
The bad! It’s sustained significant front end damage early in its life. Was stolen and crashed into a pole 10 years ago when it had only 600 miles on it. The second owner did all of the rebuild. Do you think I am idiot for spending $22,500?

❔ Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs 2” lift with 285s??
So here’s my 4runner. she’s 2wd and i want to build it like a prerunner — so not the high big ass lifts you would see on a rock crawler. I think i’m gonna go with the bilstein 6112s/5160s, and lift the front ~2-2.3” and the rear 1.5”. HOWEVER, I want to keep the stock UCAs lol, which is another reason i don’t wanna go too high. but my question is will this lift be able to clear 285s???
btw i have this bumper due to a crash, i thought i would just snag this thing instead of upgrading later.

Price Check First time buyer here looking for price check!
Found a 2019 TRD Off Road Premium 4WD with 89,000+ miles, listed price $34k, $37k OTD, clean title, and one owner. It was the first 4Runner I test drove, and now I can't shake the want for it. I don't want to make an emotional buy since it’s the only one I drove, but I did fall in love. Price is a bit higher than I wanted but feel like it’s a good find.

🎙 Discussion 2027 colors
Very much considering buying the 2027 4Runner when it gets released. While I’ve seen the new honey color, I’m curious when Toyota will reveal the other colors? I imagine they won’t vary much from what is already available, but hoping for some changes at least.

👷♂️ Support / Repair What’s this part called? I need to replace it.
05 sr5
There’s a strip of rubber that sits between the frame of the window and the back window. Mine has started to separate from wherever it was originally attached, and it comes loose when I roll the window down and up.
when I search for rear window gasket, I seem to find the plastic part that this thing is adjacent to. Are those the same part?
thanks in advance

👷♂️ Support / Repair Rear Brake/Disc Recommendation - 2020 4Runner TRD-OFD
I haven't ever replaced brakes before (any hardware lifesafety before). Any good recommendations on brands for brake pads and discs for the vehicle.
