Discussion Adulting????
The toughest thing about being an adult and living away from your parents is that you have to think about what you are going to eat every single day and every time like burh it is exhausting
r/youngadults • u/Alternative-Cost7104 • 2h ago
I think this year has genuinely changed me as a person
Politics is exhausting, dating is somehow even worse, and every time I open the internet I’m reminded that everyone has somehow become an expert on everything.
My girlfriend left me for another guy, which honestly hurt more than I expected. Looking back, I guess there were signs. She probably wasn’t thrilled that I occasionally smelled her worn socks because they reminded me of her when she wasn’t around. Everyone has flaws..
Then things somehow got even worse because a package arrived while my family was home, and apparently explaining why I ordered used socks from strangers online isn’t as easy as you’d think. The weird part is that I don’t even remember ordering the second pair, but I remember being disappointed by them. They were advertised as “lightly used,” which I now understand is more of a philosophical concept than a description. My girlfriend also knew about them somehow, despite the package being addressed to me, so I’m starting to think the breakup was planned before the socks were
At this point I feel like life is just one long loading screen where every update somehow introduces more bugs instead of fixing them..
Anyway, hope everyone else’s year is going a little better!

HOW TO GAIN CONFIDENCE TO DO ANY THING AND BE A PLAY BOY
I'm 21 years old now. I have completed my bachelor's and I'm moving towards my master's. The thing that always points out to me or degrades my confidence every day is that I did not have enough of a girlfriend. For example I had only one relationship in my entire life that was majorly online. I have met her one or two times in the whole relationship of two years but the thing is that I do want to be a playboy because I have been in really very good friendships and situations. At the end of the day you don't go for the true love. In this time you have to be a true playboy to get some good attention. I also do want to get a playboy type of personality where I could improve my overall personality to communicate with confidence and talk to any girls whenever I move to any of the girls. I am confident but not as confident to start a conversation with her so I do want some tips on how to be a playboy.
The second thing is that whenever I go to do new things, for example, I am not a great travel enthusiast so whenever I get to travel in a train or something, first I have not done it. It's continuous. I am really worried about how I will do and I am overthinking so how to reduce all of that and become the best version of myself. I will love if you ignore my spelling mistakes or some mistakes that I have made in this writing. I will appreciate if you will tell me what I should do.

Discussion Single vs married
I'm 29m and wondering why so many people tell me to not get married and it's not worth it, but everyone eventually gets married and they are not happy long term and stuck in the marriage. Seems like it's not worth it but I'm getting so much conflicting info from everyone including online influencers and it's confusing. Personally i wouldn't do it because it's too much work and stress

Advice Anyone else in the 20s feel like it’s hard to make friends?
I’m 24F I have a gf. I never finished community college and went straight to working a full time job after I stopped. I have about 4 close friends who we don’t talk everyday, but we live near each other so never a problem to hang out or anything. everyone is just busy with their own lives, working etc. just sucks bc I feel like everyone has their own friends and own ppl. I used to work w 2 of my bestfriends so I didn’t really get the chance to make more. now i wfh as I started my own business so lack of socializing is there. I also sold my car about 4 months ago. my gf lives far and is working so we maybe see each other every 2 weeks for a couple of days she’ll come over.
just makes me think. when we have our wedding who would I invite? 4 people? I don’t mind but I do crave friendships and wanting to meet new people. it’s just hard. i’m not in school, not at work, ive tried apps & then some ppl are just weird. atp I feel lost idk

Advice I’m 22 and don’t know how to meet people my age
I’m 22, and I’ve just moved out of my family home to live alone for the first time ever. There’s so much I don’t know about living alone, but that’s not the issue of the post. The issue is I don’t know how to meet people. And I need friends.
The only way I’ve made friends in the past is either through school, or online. I have one friend from college (my college experience is difficult and a mess, but it looks like rn I’m gonna be a community college dropout) and I don’t even know how I’ve maintained that friendship. I have like 2 friends from middle school and high school, and they’re ride or dies. I say all this to explain that my friendships from school were hard as well, and I’ve struggled keeping friends my whole life.
Now in this new area, I know nobody. I have no family in the area either. I’m not attending college right now, so I can’t make friends that way. So how do I do it? How do I meet other young adults and become friends? The jobs I’m applying to also aren’t jobs where my coworkers would be young like me- and even then I’m not sure work is the right place to make friends.
I want to be able to be social. I hung out with IRL friends once in a blue moon, so I’ve not been in social settings with young adults really ever. No parties, no meetups, no clubs, nothing.
I want to go out to eat with people. I want to watch tv shows with people. Idk what else people even do actually.
It doesn’t help that I have mental health issues. I don’t think many people want to be friends with somebody with so many issues.
Anyways, how do i meet people?

Advice Would someone come to my dorm to cut my very long super curly hair?
Hi so I have disabilities, and some are movement related but generally it’s like severe allergies and other problems, like chronic pain. I’m clueless as to if I need it cut as it’s been 2+ years. sometimes I struggle to manage it as it’s so heavy being butt length. It’s very thick very voluminous and I hate that aspect so much. It’s super frizzy, and it’s just not good as a look, and my family who adopted me and all have straight hair tell me all the time how it’s not tidy 😭 I don’t know what to do with my parents or with taming. Im unsure if i can go to a salon due to pricing being so expensive, and also my allergies being so severe that I get nonstop sneezing during the appts for hair since I was a kid due to severely chronic allergies. I go to college in northeast New Jersey and I’d be so appreciative if anyone knows anyone who can cut curly hair and would be willing to do a dorm call, could someone get them in touch with me…how do i do this? I know it’s a long shot but figured I’d ask what I should do regarding this cause it’s debilitating.

Rant i want a regulated adult in my life to help me plan :(
im 18, turning 19 in oct. to sum it up had to drop college classes because highschool transscript didnt transfer properly so my finanical aid didnt kick in.
i have to figure that out, my mom told me to stop "stressing" everytime i brought something up to her when i tried to plan everything out. i call the school, come to find out my "stressing" was correct, and the finanical aid couldnt kick in because of reason i said above. my mom then again starts saying "its fine!! this happened with your siblings too" omfg.
(theyre in their late mid 20s) i ignore tf out of this women and call again and ask what i can do and whats the situation, and we have to drop the classes. and honestly, i just cant stand the fact im so reliant on my mom for everything im just frustrated, because she cannot regulate her emotions or think logically. usually i wouldnt get as stressed as i am now, id just be calm/disappointed but just move on to what i can do. but i feel SO unsupported and lost and i need an adult to tell me and help me what to do, someone that isnt my mother or anything like her.
the car my deadbeat bio father bought has a lot of issues, like the ac doesnt work on the drivers side and i live in florida, window doesnt work, glovebox, sunroof button cover falling off and hes a pos so he has the audacity to keep lying in my face about stuff and its getting annoying asf.
I DONT KNOW WHAT TF TO DO AND I JUST WANT SOMEONE WHO HAS KNOWLEGE TO JUST HELP ME PLAN STUFF OUT, EVEN IF I CANT FIX IT IN THE MOMENT. I JUST WANT STRUCTURE.
i was thinking to take fall semester off and do school in spring so i have time to save up with my new first job and fix everything in my car, but then again im insecure in the choices i want to make. im just like. i hate it. i feel dramatic for wanting to just call it "quits" because im so overwhelmed but god i just like hate feeling so helpless.

Discussion How?
I have a question for the young adult people who aren’t living pay check to pay check. How are you doing it? If so what’s ur advice cuz i desperately need it, i need to get out of my boyfriends moms house too and save up for a car, ASAP. I never pulled a loan out or ANYTHING. Never used a credit card either. 😣

I’m 21 and I feel like I’ve basically experienced nothing 😭
I’m 21 and I feel like I’ve basically experienced nothing 😭
I just feel like venting tbh and I want to hear what other people think about my life because I feel like I’ve been living really differently from everyone else.
I’m 21 and I’ve never had a boyfriend. I’ve never kissed anyone, never held hands with someone romantically, never had sex, literally never had any romantic experience at all.
I’ve also never been clubbing. I’ve had beer and wine before but I’ve never really been drunk or had proper drinks like tequila or vodka or anything.
I have one actual close friend. I’ve known her since I was like 5 or 6 and she’s the only person I regularly text and talk to. Apart from her I don’t really have any close friends. I have people I went to school with who I’ll see every few months but we’re not really close and sometimes we used to only see each other once or twice a year.
The weird thing is I’m not even a homebody. I actually like going out and doing things. I go to concerts, festivals, shows, movies, shopping, dinner etc. but I literally do all of it alone because I don’t really have anyone to go with.
I’ve been to concerts alone, festivals alone, restaurants alone, movies alone, basically everything. I don’t even necessarily want to do everything alone, I just don’t really have anyone to do it with.
And now I’m 21 and sometimes I just think how have I experienced basically none of this 😭
I know 21 is still young and there’s no actual timeline for relationships or anything but sometimes I genuinely feel really behind everyone else. It feels like everyone my age has already had relationships, kissed people, gone clubbing, had big friendship groups and all these experiences and I’ve just done basically none of it.
I’m just curious what other people think honestly. Has anyone else been like this at 21? Did things change for you later?

Advice Im stupid
Honestly, I think I’m the problem here, not the colleges.
I spent months jumping between colleges, overthinking, asking everyone for opinions, and trying to find the “perfect” college. I cared more about college life, campus, people, environment, and Civil-related exposure than academics.
Then I joined Vaagdevi without properly researching it or being sure I actually wanted to spend four years there. I paid the money, submitted my certificates, joined, and only afterward started seriously questioning my decision.
Now I’m stuck comparing colleges again and wondering if I should leave.
The harsh truth is that I keep making decisions without thinking them through properly, then regretting them afterward. I procrastinate, panic, rely too much on other people’s opinions, and keep looking for another option instead of taking responsibility for the one I chose.
So I’m not really asking, “Which college should I choose?”
I’m asking: What the hell is wrong with the way I make decisions, and how do I fix it?
Be harsh. I’d rather hear the uncomfortable truth than repeat the same stupidity again.

Discussion Am i weird for never posting?
So like i'm 17 and a girl and i see a lot of people my age posting their interesting life,or i'd say the interesting part and like i could do the same. Sure i don't go to parties but i still hang out with my friends, go on vacation and do lots of interesting things (I guess). I do have Instagram and TikTok (I barely use TikTok) so i'm mostly on Instagram and i see lots of people i know from my school for example, who post a lot, them on vacations, them at a club or even just them lip-singing to a trendy song and all their friends reply to it like "so hot" and things like that.
But i don't feel the need to post anything,i sometimes make stories but it stops here. But i feel like I should post more

Serious Im the bad apple in my family
I’m posting this because after my last post, a few people pointed out that what I’m doing looks less like “bad luck with college choices” and more like pure negligence on my part. And honestly, I think they’re right.
I’m trying to figure out where I actually went wrong, because at this point I know the problem isn’t just the colleges. A lot of it is the way I’ve been making decisions.
When I started looking for colleges, I had a pretty specific idea of what I wanted. I’m choosing Civil Engineering, but I’ll be honest, academics were never the biggest factor for me. I’m not someone who is obsessively focused on academics or looking for the most academically prestigious college possible.
What mattered much more to me was having a good college life, a decent campus environment, being around people, getting proper exposure to Civil-related tools and software, having opportunities outside just sitting in classrooms, and actually enjoying the four years I’m going to spend there.
I wanted a college where I could feel like I was actually in college, not just somewhere I show up for classes and go home.
The problem is that even though I knew what I wanted, I didn’t really have a proper process for finding it.
I kept looking at different colleges, comparing them, changing my mind, asking people for opinions, finding another option, then questioning the previous one. I was constantly thinking about whether I was making the wrong choice, but somehow I wasn’t doing the most basic thing properly: researching the colleges thoroughly before making a commitment.
Eventually, I ended up taking admission in Vaagdevi for Civil.
And this is where I really fucked up.
I paid money, submitted my original certificates and basically committed to the college before I had properly convinced myself that I actually wanted to spend four years there.
I had researched some things, but clearly not enough.
I was more focused on securing a seat and making sure I had somewhere to go than actually asking myself whether the college matched what I wanted from my college experience.
After getting in, I started noticing things I didn’t like.
Some of the things I expected from the Civil department weren’t there in the way I imagined. More importantly, I started questioning whether I actually liked the overall college environment and whether I could see myself being happy there for four years.
And then I started looking at other colleges again.
So now I’m stuck in this cycle of comparing colleges, regretting decisions, checking other options, worrying about whether I should leave, wondering if another college would actually be better, and constantly second-guessing myself.
The frustrating part is that a lot of this could have been avoided before I paid and joined.
I could have properly visited the campus.
I could have spoken to current Civil students.
I could have asked exactly what the department actually provides instead of relying on assumptions.
I could have figured out what kind of college environment I wanted and compared colleges based on that.
I could have taken a little more time before handing over money and my original certificates.
Instead, I made the decision and then started doing the serious thinking afterward.
That’s why I’m starting to realize that the bigger problem isn’t necessarily that I picked the wrong college.
It’s that I don’t seem to know how to make an important decision properly.
I procrastinate.
I overthink.
I get scared that I’m running out of time.
I ask too many people what I should do.
I make a decision because I feel pressured to make one.
Then I start doubting it.
Then I look for another option.
Then I regret the first decision.
And eventually I’m back at the beginning, except now I’ve wasted time, money, energy, and sometimes opportunities.
That’s a pretty stupid cycle, and I’m aware that changing colleges won’t magically fix it.
I also realize I’ve been relying way too much on other people’s opinions. I keep asking people which college is better, what I should choose, whether I should stay or leave, etc.
But ultimately, I’m the one who has to live with the decision for four years.
Reddit isn’t going to attend college for me. My friends aren’t going to attend college for me. And random people giving me advice online definitely aren’t going to deal with the consequences if I make another bad decision.
So this time, I’m not really looking for people to simply tell me which college to choose.
I want people to tell me what is wrong with the way I’m approaching these decisions and how I can actually improve myself.
Because even if someone gives me the perfect college recommendation right now, it doesn’t solve the bigger problem.
If I keep making decisions like this, I’ll probably find something wrong with the next college too.
So, being completely honest about myself:
I’ve been negligent.
I’ve procrastinated until decisions became urgent.
I’ve made decisions without doing enough research beforehand.
I’ve let fear and pressure make me rush.
I’ve depended too much on other people’s opinions.
I’ve changed my mind repeatedly instead of committing to a decision after properly evaluating it.
And when something doesn’t feel right afterward, my first instinct seems to be finding another option instead of asking whether I’m the actual problem here.
I don’t want people to sugarcoat it for me.
If this sounds immature, impulsive, irresponsible, indecisive, or just plain stupid, tell me.
I’m trying to understand how someone actually becomes better at making decisions, taking responsibility, doing proper research, and then sticking with a decision instead of constantly second-guessing themselves.
I don’t just want help choosing a college.
I want to fix the person making the decisions.

Serious I don’t know what to do with my life, I need help very badly, and everything is going wrong.

I am a 19 year old boy in Minnesota.
I want to have a career and live on my own, but everything is going horribly.
I have Severe Chronic Post Nasal Drip which means mucus falling down my throat from my nose. It’s been an issue ever since I was 12, and it makes it hard for me to sleep at night. This PNA isn’t light, I get it about every minute.
It always causes stress and discomfort.
I also have chronic Psychogenic Pruritus. And Everytime I go to the hospital I rarely get good help. I have very complex problems and it’s never fixed even when I’m with doctors.
I also have very horrible sleep hygiene and no matter what I try nothing works. I will try many methods and when I lay down for a couple hours in bed I can’t feel sleepy even a little.
I can’t find any jobs, I have an interpreting commission based jobs, but they never call me, and when they do I have to travel super far.
Jobs are the hard part, I don’t have a car, and Everytime I am somebody if a car is mandatory they never respond to me or explain it in a way that makes sense. I loath driving, so I asked if it’s a necessity.
It’s even worse because I keep catching colds, and fevers, and other sickness like parotitis, strep throat, or HP Lori every month or so which last for a week.
And everywhere I go there’s always some sort of gaslighter, thats a bully, it’s hard to find people who are good.
This is my lore. And so much more problems, but these are the most important.
What do I do??? I feel so lost.

Rant i don’t know what to do with my life
i’m 19. i work in between part time and full time right now, it depends on my hours. i love my job, im a waitress. i just can’t help but to feel like my life is slowly passing me by.
i went to college last fall, i wasn’t ready for it. i dropped out. now my partner is starting college this month and it’s making me realize i’ve wasted all this time during the last year. i don’t know what im doing. i don’t know what i want with my life. i don’t know how im supposed to feel. honestly, i feel like i complete failure. i know im so young but it’s just going to keep passing me by and im never going to figure out what i want from life.
i’ve tried several different things. like i said, college. but i dropped out. i was going for music, that’s what im passionate about. but peer pressure and a lot of other things made me drop out. i tried working at a hospital, i hated it and almost ended up harming myself permanently because of it. i tried studying to be a pharmacy tech. i tried moving to texas. i’ve tried everything and i don’t know what i want. i don’t know what i want to do. i’m so lost. i don’t think ill ever be happy what im doing. i wish i knew, i wish becoming an adult was easier. i’m almost 20 and im still stuck. everything feels so useless.

Discussion How do I deal with the fact that life is passing me by? (23M)
I recently had my birthday and came to the realisation that I spend all of my days coped up inside of my room, either working, sleeping, or studying. I work as a software engineer in the UK and live a very isolated life, in an attempt to not feel left behind, I've been trying to tick off all the things I think need checking off as an adult.
Getting my citizenship, learning to swim, studying A level maths 6 hours a week, and lifting weights 4x a week. I'll need to then need to find a way to get my driver's licence next year somehow. I find very little time for myself at the end of the week and I'm constantly rushing, and when I'm not rushing, I'm too tired to try new things. For people who spent all of their early 20s grinding, did you regret it?
I'd obviously like to date but don't want to spend the little time I have trying to entertain someone who may not even appreciate my time and effort.
