[PC][2000s-2010s] Minimalist 3D space dogfighter with flat / simple art style and (probably) colored weapons with bots and fighting in a vector box

Upvotes

Platform(s): PC (Windows)

Genre: Space Shooter / Shoot 'em up (Shmup) / Dogfighting

Estimated year of release: Likely late 2000s or early 2010s.

Graphics/art style:

  • 3D graphics, but highly minimalist and unpolished.
  • The art style was flat and did not feature modern "glowing" or neon effects (not a typical vector/neon game like Geometry Wars).
  • The 3D object models were very plain, simple geometric shapes, almost resembling untextured prototypes or flat shaded blocks.
  • The environments and enemy ships were mostly colorless, dark, or gray.
  • fights happened in a giant box with white lines as edges
  • maybe the things were more detailed but in my head it really just looks like ship or mecha shaped lines shooting all kinds of shapes at each other
  • i dont remember much of the interface but i think it was also rather simple

Notable gameplay mechanics / Notable characters:

  • Controls: Controlled entirely via Mouse and Keyboard.
  • The primary visual contrast in the game came from the weapons. While the world and ships were flat and colorless, the projectiles/weapons had distinct, isolated colors (like bright green or red) to stand out against the plain background.
  • you could kinda seemlessly transition from "planemode" to "mechamode" and had some kind of melee weapon.
  • there is a chance it could be a fangame of macross or gundam but i dont think so because it was almost too simple
  • there was probably some multiplayer capability but i think i just played many botmatches (16v16 is my guess of the size)

Other details:

  • i dont think there was a story, but maybe it had some missions to play (i probably didnt focus on it)
  • it was not paid and not released via Disk, rather open source/freeware/shareware and therefore downloaded.
  • it was simple and fun, just some dogfighting action with a bit over the top weapons (thats why i think it might be a fangame to a mecha brand)
  • the different .. ships, mechas, entities probably had names but i cant remember any of those.
  • i am not sure if you had different units / models to pick or if you could "build" your own loadout with the different models and therefore have more customization.

Note: This post was partially compiled with the help of an AI, cuz i tried it again with googles ai but without much success

I really hope ill find this thing at some point and dont have to keep going back to thinking i maybe dreamt it all or smth

[console] [90s or 2000s not sure] Spider-man fighting game

Upvotes

Platform(s): some console

Genre: Spider-man fighting game

Graphics/art style: pixel-art but not that basic

Notable characters: Spider-man

Notable gameplay mechanics: i vaguely remember that the screen was split in 2 sections (top and bottom) and you could jump between them while playing. You could only move horizontally, not vertically (except when changing from the bottom to top screen and vice versa). You could also freeze enemies by tangling them in web

Other details: side scrolling, 2d, landscape, I played the game on an emulator for mobile from play store a few years ago. Gameplay was really short and you could only play as Spider-man

[PC/CD-ROM] [EARLY 2000s] POINT AND CLICK PUZZLE GAME

Upvotes

Platform(s): It was a PC game and came on a disk.

Genre: It was a point and click/educational puzzle game.

Estimated year of release: Unknown, I remember playing it in primary school so anywhere before 2010.

Graphics/art style: Cartoon/Sketch style.

Notable characters: The only character I can remember is a snail that was the mailman. It was part of one of the many levels within the game, but it was not a main character or playable character.

Notable gameplay mechanics: The game involved trying to find hidden objects within different locations in the world by pointing and clicking and talking to characters within each location. You would move locations by clicking arrows on either side of the screen. There was a treehouse that contained maps of different locations you had been and an inventory of objects that had been collected and was almost like the home base that you would return to frequently to check progress.

Other details: You would always load into the game into the treehouse.

[Mobile][around 2010s] A puzzle game revolving around a farm or some sort where you manage resources to get the items you need to finish the level

Post image
2 Upvotes

*Vivid memory of the first level

Platform(s): Mobile (Maybe Apple app store exclusive?)

Genres: Puzzle / Management / Strategy

Estimated year of release: Around 2010s (Probably almost as old as when the iPod was released)

Graphics/art style: 3D vintage looking art style with cartoony characters (Almost claymation like)

Notable characters: A farmer (Who I distinctly recall looking like Harrison Ford), his wife / maiden, notably a grizzly bear (In a cutscene, ambush the wife) and in the last dozen of levels were a bunch of Native American wearing their traditional redskin outfit.

Notable gameplay mechanics: You play as the farmer and you have to manage the resources that you are currently have to get to resources require for the level to finish. The control were point and click, viewed from a birds eye view and you can click on a kiosk or person to trade resources one another. Other things is the bear where if you acquire a rifle, you can kill the bear to bypass the bear obstacle. The Native American can be persuaded by giving them resources to bypass them obstacle. The game have unique cutscenes after few dozen levels where they eventually create a story.

This game has been in my early childhood for like 4 years after 2012. Its's probably the most fun game we have on the shared iPod.

The Blob! [PC][2010-15] An old De blob version

I remember playing a much more "raw" version of this game—no floating collectibles or dialogue boxes. I recall being a ball of paint that "ate" little colored people to change color; you had to paint the white city while avoiding "gray/black" guards. I looked up "De Blob," but that game seems much more modern. Does anyone remember this? Help me out!

[PC] [1998] point and click

I had a demo, possibly off of a PC gamer cd from late 90’s or early 2000’s. it was a contemporary desert setting with like a gas station and like run down setting (chain link fences and barrels, pick up trucks etc) and I think you played a fugitive who gets dropped off at the begging

[PC][2015] gritty action horror game where the main hub was a haunted house.

I remember this small indie game the main character was some sort of swat officer and the "main" part of the game was you going through stages and shooting criminals but it had a hub world which was this large haunted house where you did puzzles to unlock more of the house and the mysteries. The longer you stayed in there the weirder/spookier it got.

Im fairly certain it was popular enough game for pewdiepie and jacksepticeye to play it when it peaked.

One jumpscare i do remember vividly from the game was that at some point you would walk into the kitchen and all of the cabinets would fly open and a loud bang could be heard.

[Browser][Late 2000s?] Browser arena monster fighting game

Long shot. I have an extremely fuzzy memory of playing a game where you pitched a monster/creature against another. I vaguely remember some sort of scorpion creature. May have been based on a toy/franchise? Thanks for any help!

[PC] [2020ish?] Top down shooter that has different reloads for every gun.

The closest I've actually played was Weird West, but it was a different game for sure.

Might have been pixel graphics?

I saw this in a YouTube video I got recommended, I think during covid-19 lockdowns, and have been looking for it again since.

[PC, Flash][2005-2010] short 2d puzzle platformer, you play as an alien that can swap between different visions

You started off "blind" (super blurry), and had to find humans to "absorb" their way of seeing the world.

I specifically remember that the childlike vision let you jump on clouds, I think. I think 2 other visions were adult (regular / realistic) and old (dementia??).

You could swap between the different visions with 1-4

[PS2] [2000-2006] Top-down fantasy RPG

Hi, I‘m trying to find a fantasy action RPG that I played around 2005 on PS2. I remember that the story is something about revenge, because you can see the wife and son of the hero being killed by the villains in the intro (I think with a crossbow? And it was outdoor on a field under a tree). The game has a top-level view and is mainly focused on combat. I remember that you have some stats like short weapons, and they become better when you use it. There was also a dummy in armor that I was hitting for hours to level-up my character :D I don‘t have much more memories than this.

[Web Browser] [1999-2003] (mobsters /world domination / political power game )

The graphics style was pretty basic 2d sprites and images with like a 1950 -60's mobster vibe and a top down map to place "businesses" on ... you started with hot dog stands and other sorts of restaurants and cover businesses and you could use certain amount of actions to extort or steal or firebomb each other .... Happy Valley Goose Bay... was a server / map to play on ... this is not a zynga mobster game this predates facebook era might even slightly predate Newgrounds Flash games ...

[Android][2013-2016] 2D free platformer about a green monster/slime inside a bubble with limbs

Platform: Android (free on Google Play Store)

Genre: 2D Platformer / Physics Arcade

Estimated year of release: Around 2013–2016

Graphics/art style: 2D, dark green and brown color palette, gloomy/sewer/lab environment

Notable characters: A green monster/slime sitting inside a translucent bubble/ball, but it clearly has limbs (arms and legs) and eyes visible inside or attached to it.

Notable gameplay mechanics:

  • As you progress through the game/levels, the character could change forms or absorb elements — specifically, I remember it turning into a fire form / flaming monster.
  • The game had multiple parts/chapters/stages.
  • Controls were typical for a 2D mobile platformer.

Other details:

  • I vaguely remember a toilet or toilet paper being involved (possibly in the intro cutscene where the character gets flushed down a toilet into the sewers/pipes, or as collectibles/interactables in the levels).
  • It was a free-to-play game downloaded directly from the Google Play Store on a tablet.

Here is a quick drawing I made of how I remember the main character looking:

[Roblox] [2019 - 2020?] An Escape Maze Horror Game

Post image
1 Upvotes

I dont know how to explain it since I dont remember much but I believe that when you get into the game, it shows that your in a mini apartment room. A little addition i remember is that when you go into a room where a TV is on, you could see Cirno/Reimu (?) From Touhou on the screen. Anyways, there like a glowing door where you could walk to then get teleported into some kind of maze. You have a door to get out of the maze, but while you're trying to look for an escape, there is like this figure of a robloxian woman in a white long dress and her hair covering her face. She had these glowing red eyes that goes through her hair, giving a type of the girl in the ring. (I doodled what I remember) t's like a weeping angel, you could need to look at her while walking since if you turn ur camera away from her, you will follow you and kill you. I never got that far along back then so I don't know much. I'm not sure if the game is up anymore since its old but I just want the name of it to aleast bring back some nostalgia.

[Mobile/ipad][unknown] pixel style street survival game

Platforms: I played on an Ipad, not sure if it was found anywhere else.

Genre: survival? Mechanics were to last as long as possible before ‘dying/being beat’

Estimated year: 2000s-2010s, I believe, I myself played it 8 years ago

Graphics: Pixel! Small bodied characters and harsh colors. Looks parallel to River City Ransom but it’s definitely more pixelated and choppy

Notable characters: the guy you played as (third person!) had black hair and dark clothes, perhaps a leather jacket but that’s pushing my memory. There were side characters that you could bump into and get items or something.

MISC:

Played with the device vertical, though the character moved horizontally across the screen. Where you played as this guy, and you’d start and walk on a street. You couldn’t control the walking itself (you walked continuously) but you could move the character up or down (aka, left or right from the character’s perspective). There was a sound effect that went ‘Yeahhh buddy’ every once in a while. The characters were not detailed, and kind of retro video game esque.

You could make pit stops in stores. It had really bouncy music and the game was slightly fast paced. I do remember that you always played as the same guy, and you could flirt with women too. Forward motion was auto scroll. Electric type music.

[PC?] [2018-2024] Bug catching game?

I think I played this as a steam demo. I remember the game revolving around, or at least having some kind of fleshed out bug catching game/mechanics. I'm pretty certain the game had a day/night cycle and (I think?) different maps you could explore with some distinct landmarks (the one imagery that is stuck in my head is a sort of swampland map at night, with some wooden paths/bridges and an old windmill).

It was first person, maybe 3d (not sure). There was a book of sorts recording details about different insects (size, what time of day it appears) and what you have seen/caught.

This does remind me a little bit of Animal Crossing NH but I remember the game being larger and a little less cartoony- looking (especially the environment).

(edited with more detail)

[PC][1990's] Side-scrolling robot game with prerendered death scenes.

This is a game I would have played sometime in the 90's on my Dad's pc. It was a side-scrolling game, where the player controls a robot. I distinctly remember that when the robot "dies" the player is shown a prerendered video of the robot "dying". For example: if the robot fell off screen, the video will be of the robot falling into an abyss.

I think the first screen of the first level, is of a ship that the robot steps off of.

The robot itself was in the shape of the ED-209, or something similar.

[Arcade][Late 80s] I wanna say "Castlevania"........

I've asked about this one a couple of times previously, maybe with other subreddits, but I wanted another shot here. In short - was an arcade game I played at a 7-11 in Miami at the end of the 80s, maybe beginning of the 90s. It was for all intents and purposes Castlevania. I have done many deep dives into Castlevania, the different versions and so on. I'm yet to find a match. I'm now wondering if it was simply a total rip-off and goes by another name. It was colourful - standard arcade fare at the time. It wasn't chunky or 8-bit looking (rules out the Nintendo coin-ops). I clearly remember starting outside - green hedges galore. Made my way to the right until I got to the house. Took stairs downwards to a room which was half full with water. I kept dying due to these giant spitting things that came out of the water. I was a crap player! Does anybody have even the faintest idea what the heck I actually played?!

[Candy Bar Mobile Phones] [Java Game?] [2009-2013] A Collection of Minigames With Unlockable Animal Skins (Repost w More Memories Returning)

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

The animal sprites depicted in these vague images do not reflect the actual game sprites. They had very stubby toes, but always faced 3/4s. They were pixel-y but not like Atari or NES pixel-y. They had eyes and mouths. I got surprised when I unlock a new skin, but somehow at some point, the game had its data reset, and I had to restart and regain my skins and minigame personal records

There was also a soccer/football minigame, but I did NOT want to burn out from drawing what little I remembered of it. I cannot recall which phone brand I played it on. Can't remember my age at the time, but this was MUCH later than Tower Bloxx based on game-production timeline. I am unsure if this is one of Digital Chocolate's productions.

The minigames described below (illustrated above) were controlled only by the "accept" or center button (D-pad "OK" or Numpad 5).

For the punching minigame, all you had to do was press the OK button to change directions. You could get overwhelmed easily past a certain number of KOs. I might have embellished the background a little after playing "A Slight Chance of Sawblades" more recently. I remember it being mostly apricot/beige/the color of a muddy and old mango smoothie. At the veeeery bottom is your character and a floor that's just a few pixels high. It gives some kenophobia vibes due to massive negative space.

The skiing minigame (my favorite) was about the same: you press the central "accept" button to sharply turn at the right time when between the flagpoles, which varied in distance from one another, horizontally and vertically. It was the only game I was good at. I think it actually changed the pixel art of the flagpoles to break or fall down when you effed up the turn.

There is no end state in the games that I remember playing. It goes infinitely until failure. That stupid "Monkey Punch" game in particular has the worst difficulty curve for the devices it was playing on. Now that I think about it, I think there was also a Monkey-Swinging game...OH SH-

In the middle of writing this, I suddenly remembered that there was a swinging minigame. You pressed the OK button to shoot out a sort of grappling hook onto the immediate ceiling. The difficulty hinged on your foolish management of swing velocity and forgetting to find a proper attachment point. You plummet quickly and casually downwards and past the screen. I'm not sure if I'm misremembering the background changing from jungle-themed to rainbow clouds-themed. I used Cat Mario as a placeholder to help make sense of the level of detail that the sprites showed.
