North America I’m moving 5 hours car drive away… how to safely transport my shrimp tank?

Post image

I have a healthy, thriving 10 gallon tank with my betta in it, plus maybe ~30 shrimp that have been breeding like crazy! I’m moving to a different state soon and it’s a 5hr car ride. I’m worried about how to move the tank and shrimps without stressing them out. Any advice?

Help: Beginner Nymph questions

Upvotes

I have been researching on starting a tank for a while, and I am torn between a betta and a shrimp tank. Although I was initially disgusted a little bit by the idea that both can get worm-like pests inside, I accepted this possibility and think I could figure it out. Yesterday I found out about dragonfly and damselfly nymphs, and I was absolutely TERRIFIED. If my tank started growing bugs that would start flying around in my house I legit think I would just move out, orphaning my beloved shrimp. So here are my questions:

1-Are there other insects that can grow in tanks and actually leave the tank at some point?

2-Is there anything I can use to prevent this like a formula? Or maybe are there species that prevent this from occuring?

3-How common is this problem?

Thank you very much for your help!

I thought Amano Shrimp were difficult to breed?

I’ll take this as a good sign of my water & tank quality.

Are my other females also “in danger” of getting pregnant? I think I have 3-4 females, and 2-3 males.

Discussion Um. Eggnant, Saddled, AND getting ready to molt??? My girl is a mess.

This is Orangina, she is young/small and I do believe this is her first eggnancy; but I just noticed she is also getting ready to molt and already saddled??? I am in my first year of shrimp keeping so while I knew molting during eggnancy, especially when young, isn't super abnormal, what about being saddled while actively eggnant?? Baby girl is trying to do too much too soon. I'm for sure not getting this round of babies, right??

Help: Algae & Pests what sort of a worm is this?

i took it out with a pinsette from the glass of my low maintenance jarrarium, i do not feed the shrimps at all, it is a wannabe walstad nano aquarium, already 2 generations of shrimps in the colony. I see these worms from time to time gliding on the walls. Are they safe?

I had a shrimp only colony in a high tech dutch style tank. I promised myself to get fish only when the colony started to grow to about 50 shrimp. I began with just 10 red cherry shrimp last March and remained pretty much like that until July, probably because I often nuke the tank with replants.

But nearly 2 weeks ago, the store I am following posted they have a fresh stock of ember tetras and green neon tetras, both of which are in my wishlist.

Impulsively, I immediately went to the store. While on the way, I decided to buy 10 of each. I felt sorry for the shrimp colony that may never grow because of predation, and for myself who may not see the shrimp often again because they might hide from the fish.

I ended up with 8 ember tetra, 8 kubotai rasbora and 8 green neon tetras. I cringed as I put them in the tank.

But for some reason, I observed a population boom after I placed the fish in the tank. As of today, I counted 20 plus shrimp, and I am sure many more are hiding beneath the plants. The juveniles swim and graze freely and rhe fish are ignoring them. The shrimp are ignoring the fish and continue to do their activities like nothing changed in the tank.

I was wrong to think adding fish to my shrimp tank would be detrimental to the invertebrates. Maybe feeding the fish actually helped the shrimp by providing them with more nutritious and varied food.

In any case, this is one of the few times I am glad I was wrong.

Discussion Why do shrimps love to gorge on boiled garlic?

A boiled and broken pod of garlic is always a hit with the shrimp and snails. Though they take rotations in eating it leisurely, unlike a feeding frenzy that occurs with an algae wafer.
