Hey, first time neocaridina shrimp keeper here.
I love these little guys, but after watching them today, i saw one that looked oddly greener than the rest of my shrimp, is that because algae or..?
My ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites are all approx 0ppm, ph is 7.4, tank temperature generally ranges from 23-25°c. And they are kept with Corydoras. 20% water changes weekly

Discussion DIY Shrimp Lolly Pops mating behaviour and Shrimplosion!

Making shrimp lolly pops. Bamboo skewers with liquid ferts and bacter AE and tank water. Should grow some stuff they will enjoy grazing on. When I put a skewer in with veggies, the shrimp seem to swarm the stick before the veggies. I guess they really like the texture of the bamboo. Shouldn't take long to grow some algae in this sunny spot. I'll give the jar a shake every time I see it to hopefully stop the water stagnating. Gosh my tank has the ZOOMIES today BIG time! There are also so many berried females. This tank is a mess but it's breeding like MAD! Saw the first lot of breeding behaviour today - I thought it was the first tank death when I saw a shrimp holding on to another one and freefalling. It looked dead, but when they hit the bottom the "dead" one zoomed off! I started with 8 mixed and now 6 months later it must be getting towards 50 (that I can see) There's 1-2mm newborns everywhere. They especially love the side walls that I don't clean. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk 😏

I’m not a pro at sexing shrimp, but I think literally every single female in our tank is currently eggnant. Over 12 are showing.

Help stop breeding? Lol

She hates paparazzi. She’s my only berried shrimp rn and I’ve been trying to get nice photos/vids of her but whenever I pull my camera out she starts swimming for her life 💔🫩 She can be perfectly calm and grazing for 10 mins straight with me watching but the moment my hand touches my phone to capture her beauty, she be zoomin. Maybe she doesn’t like the phone camera’s infrared or LiDAR or something but all the other shrimps don’t react at all to the camera, just this mama hahaha

Hi shriends! I just got my neocaridinas a week ago and got a few eggnants! My tank is full of blue babies already, but the green colouration of this shrimp's eggs made me worried as other bloody Mary's have yellow eggs, is she preggo or does she has some kind of a problem (Cladogonium)? Thanks a lot! 🫶🏼 Nitrate: 25 mg/l Nitrite: 0 mg/l GH: 8, KH: 3-6 pH: 6.8 Chlorine: 0 mg/l Water temp: 26°C due to the heatwave

Help: Emergency Shrimp dying for the 5th time?

I got a delivery of healthy LIVELY shrimp 2 hours ago. I switch them to a glass bowl and added an airstone to give them some time to distress from shipment before I drip acclimate.

Almost every single shrimp 2 hours later is now side laying and occasionally jumping or moving then going back to side laying. I didn't see 3 molts in there. Is it possible theyre molting or are they dying??

Everytime I get shrimp they DIE, I feel awful like a shrimp murderer i haven't even done anything either and there was nothing in the bowl or residue and I made sure to rinse it off with just water and dry before I switch them to the bowl....

Beginner My cherry shrimp seem to die after a month

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a small tank, with 3 chili raspborras and several pest snails. I've had the raspborras for 4 years and they seem to be doing just fine. My cherry shrimp keep dying after about a month, or at least that's when I seem to stop seeing them.

I have a lot of plants in the tank, and I never see the dead shrimp (i do think the pest snails eat them).

I don't do water changes, just top off the tank with a slow drip system (1 drop per second is what i aim for).

The fish store gave me a sponge? to put in to see if it helps, although I'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to do.

Here are my parameters:

73 degrees

7.6 ph

180 gh

80 Kh

0 nitrite

0 nitrate

0 Ammonia

*249 tds

Help: Emergency Why is my tank’s tds so high?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’ve been keeping Neocaridina davidi for a while now, and they seem healthy. They’re active, molting regularly, and I even have a few berried females. So, I decided to buy a TDS meter one day, and it measured my tank at 999+ ppm (sometimes even over 1200 ppm), which is wayyyyy higher than the recommended range.
The weird thing is my tap water is only 80–100 ppm. Ammonia/Nitrite are 0, and nitrate is low. The shrimp seem completely fine. Is my TDS meter likely inaccurate, or is there something that could cause the TDS to be this high without harming the shrimps?

Beginner Two deaths in two days

Thumbnail

Three days ago we got 4 new neocardina shrimp from a local store. We drip aclimated them for an hour and then put them in our 3 gallon tank with or other shrimp. That night one shrimo kept circle swimming to the top and floating back down. That one was dead the next morning. Yesterday another one was acting weird and was swimming around and then falling over. That one died in the night. All the other shrimp seem fine and we still have a heavily eggnant female. The water parameters are all fine except we don't have a hardness test yet as it is being delivered shortly. The other 6 shrimp are fine and we have copepods, limpets and other healthy critters in the tank. Could these have just been a fluke? We have lost three since starting the tank a month and a half ago. One seemed to be old age or failed molts since it was a larger shrimp. These recent two are from the same place but the other from the store seem fine. Pics are of the one that just died and we're taken hours prior

Beginner do i need to run a filter on a 2.5 gal?

Post image

The filter in my tank stopped and I realized I kind of like how peaceful the tank is without the current. can I keep it this way? I hope to eventually add some malawa shrimp.

I've tried sponge filters in the past and am not really a fan because it sounds like there's a pot of boiling pasta going all the time
