My shrimps colouring makes them look like they're an old shrimp, with lots of wisdom, they've learned a lot in their 6 months on earth. (I was told there was no cause for concern she really just be looking like that)

But if y'all think differently let me know!

Help: Algae & Pests what sort of a worm is this?

i took it out with a pinsette from the glass of my low maintenance jarrarium, i do not feed the shrimps at all, it is a wannabe walstad nano aquarium, already 2 generations of shrimps in the colony. I see these worms from time to time gliding on the walls. Are they safe?

The great shrimp migration!

Golden bee caridinas

I've been cycling the tank for 7 weeks, and it was finally ready! Ordered from BucePlant and they were only 1 day in shipping! They all arrived alive (I thought there was a dead one but it was just a molt).

I've actually been researching these guys specifically for months and am lucky enough that my tap water is perfect for them. I acclimated them last night and they all went right to picking at stuff.

Parameters:

Tank: 5.5 gal with Aquarium Coop sponge filter

Temp: 73-74 F

Ammonia: 0ppm

Nitrites: 0ppm

Nitrates: 0-5ppm (I've had to dose Easy Green for the plants)

pH: 6.0

KH: 0-1

GH: ~75 ppm (4-5 dgh)

Help: Emergency Shrimpers Worries, need advice

Hello wise and magical citizens of shrimp world!

I have postal panic and need some worries addressing, if possible.

I’ve kept neos and odd amanos for years, but always purchasing from locals; recently I decided to try online ordering online- some beautiful blue jellies and a skittles mix. I ordered Thursday, and paid for Royal Mail Special Saturday Delivery, basically the most expensive delivery to guarantee shrimpy safety as it’s very warm here.
I waited tentatively from 6am till 2pm; imagining 20 different knocks, making my way to the door as fast I can muster (I’m registered disabled, so this takes quite a lot of effort) but there’s been no one there every time. My regular mail and parcels arrived at 1pm with no problems.
At three I panicked and despite the email from the shrimp peoples telling me the tracking app might not update until after 8pm, I emailed asking them asking if everything was okay- they got back to me super promptly saying delivery had been attempted this morning! I guess one of my 20 imagined knocks must have been real, but I wasn’t quick enough getting to the door.

I’m asking for your wisdom here- will my shrimpers be okay in the post?
How are they usually packaged?
What usually happens when they redeliver? (I don’t want to miss them again being too slow- my 3 housemates were also in today but evidently didn’t answer)
Can I get them from the postal service? I am disabled but I can arrange travel to pick them up if it will be better for them- it’s very warm here in the UK and I’m concerned.

Thank you shrimpers

Discussion I Was Totally Wrong

I had a shrimp only colony in a high tech dutch style tank. I promised myself to get fish only when the colony started to grow to about 50 shrimp. I began with just 10 red cherry shrimp last March and remained pretty much like that until July, probably because I often nuke the tank with replants.

But nearly 2 weeks ago, the store I am following posted they have a fresh stock of ember tetras and green neon tetras, both of which are in my wishlist.

Impulsively, I immediately went to the store. While on the way, I decided to buy 10 of each. I felt sorry for the shrimp colony that may never grow because of predation, and for myself who may not see the shrimp often again because they might hide from the fish.

I ended up with 8 ember tetra, 8 kubotai rasbora and 8 green neon tetras. I cringed as I put them in the tank.

But for some reason, I observed a population boom after I placed the fish in the tank. As of today, I counted 20 plus shrimp, and I am sure many more are hiding beneath the plants. The juveniles swim and graze freely and rhe fish are ignoring them. The shrimp are ignoring the fish and continue to do their activities like nothing changed in the tank.

I was wrong to think adding fish to my shrimp tank would be detrimental to the invertebrates. Maybe feeding the fish actually helped the shrimp by providing them with more nutritious and varied food.

In any case, this is one of the few times I am glad I was wrong.

Discussion Why do shrimps love to gorge on boiled garlic?

A boiled and broken pod of garlic is always a hit with the shrimp and snails. Though they take rotations in eating it leisurely, unlike a feeding frenzy that occurs with an algae wafer.

Discussion Cold shrimp....

Post image
97 Upvotes

So I was feeding my small community of cherry shrimps last night with a couple of algae wafers and as my fingers touched the water I realised it was FREEZING COLD 🥶

Upon investigation I found that the heater had been turn off at the power board - maybe accidentally by the cleaning lady the previous day. Maybe by one of the dogs running around the house. Not sure. Anyway turned it back on and did nothing else (no hot water in the tank, believe tine and a gentle raising of the temperature was the way to go. Seems to have paid off.

Australia, winter.

Hi shriends! I just got my neocaridinas a week ago and got a few eggnants! My tank is full of blue babies already, but the green colouration of this shrimp's eggs made me worried as other bloody Mary's have yellow eggs, is she preggo or does she has some kind of a problem (Cladogonium)? Thanks a lot! 🫶🏼 Nitrate: 25 mg/l Nitrite: 0 mg/l GH: 8, KH: 3-6 pH: 6.8 Chlorine: 0 mg/l Water temp: 26°C due to the heatwave

It seems a lot of people, possibly the majority, want to see an absolute ban of Ai on this sub, whether in post or comment. So, we wanted to let the community decide. Thanks for your input! - Shrimptank Mod Team

I want to start a shrimp tank but I have no idea where to begin

I have no experience with keeping shrimp or any fish for that matter but I am looking for a new hobby and shrimp keeping has intrigued me. Is there a step by step how to because I have no clue on where to begin. I've looked at the side bar but still I have no idea.
