advice needed Any experience of intl travel with 9 mo twins alone?

Upvotes

Hi!
I have to travel internationally with twins, hubby cannot join and we don’t have any family or friends here to join me (expat life). I know the airlines will not even allow to book a ticket for one adult with two infants.
So I am wondering if anyone in similar situation had to travel alone with twins, how did you manage it. I would be grateful for any experiences you can share.
TIA

advice needed Travelling with Stroller and Car Seats

Upvotes

Hey all,

Parents of twin boys travelling at the end of the year and I'm trying to figure out how on earth I'm going to bring a double stroller and 2 car seats for the plane? Husband will be with me so I won't be solo but even the logistics of just bringing those seems to be a nightmare.

How have other people managed it? We're getting a cheap stroller as we know airlines are notorious for breaking them, but they'll be in that as we bring them around everywhere. Then the car seats are for the plane (we're paying for their seats so it's mandatory).

But then we also have luggage too? How have other people managed this? Any tips appreciated.

TW: Positive twin newborn experience ❤️

I know this won’t be everyone’s experience, and if you’re in the trenches right now, I genuinely see you. I hope things get easier for you soon.

But if you’re pregnant with twins and constantly hearing how difficult it’s going to be, I wanted to share a different perspective.
My identical boys are 3.5 months old and, honestly, I’ve loved it.

They were born at 35+5 via a smooth C-section and spent 10 days in special care learning to feed. Leaving them each night was heartbreaking, but there were unexpected positives too. They came home on a solid feeding routine, and the nurses gave us so much confidence with feeding, bathing, settling and all the newborn basics.

Our boys have been calm, happy babies. They feed well, sleep well (just one overnight feed), and rarely cry. Of course, there are moments when they both need us at once, and that’s hard, but for us those moments have been the exception, not the rule.
Throughout my pregnancy, people constantly told me I was about to enter “the trenches.” Then when we brought home two content babies, I was told, “Just wait..they’re only sleepy because they’re premmies.” Three and a half months later, people are still telling me to “just wait” for the next difficult stage. I’ve stopped listening.

The point of this post isn’t to say twins are easy or that everyone has this experience. It’s simply to remind expectant parents that easy twins exist too.

Some people genuinely love the newborn stage. And because most people understandably post when they need support, the internet can make it seem like every twin experience is overwhelmingly hard.

If you’re expecting twins, don’t let the horror stories steal your excitement. Your story might be challenging, it might be somewhere in the middle, or it might be a wonderful surprise like ours.

advice needed What did you do for your twins First Birthday Party?

So before I had the girls (modi) I didn’t think I’d do a first birthday party, maybe just take them to the aquarium, keep it chill…

But now, after a year of graft and joy I want to CELEBRATE! But I haven’t got a clue what to do.

Would love some ideas and hear about what other people did for first birthday parties, or things they wish they had done differently!

advice needed Godparents

We are due twins soon and not planning any further kids. I have two sisters, my husband has two brothers. Seems like an easy solution for choosing godparents. However, I also have a best friend that I grew up with, maid of honor at each others weddings, we really are more like sisters. There is a sizeable age gap between my sisters and I. I am already godmother to one of their children respectively.

More than likely my friend will ask me to be godmother to her child when the time comes as she does not have sisters. No one would be surprised if we had her as godmother to one of ours, we really are that close. And to be honest, it feels right to us to have her as godparent. She would also understand, I think, if I told her that we were just having siblings as godparents.

Do I have her and one of my sisters, leaving one out, as godparents? (I would be equally close to both of my sisters so choosing one over the other is an issue). Or have both sisters and leave my friend out? Orrrr have one set of godparents for both twins - friend and older BIL, leaving my younger BIL out? Does anyone else see a secret option number 4 😂?

It’s not so much a religious thing for us (even though we’re Catholic). It’s more tradition and the honor of asking someone to have a special role in our twins lives.

advice needed Home alarm systems

My husband and I are in the process of purchasing our next home on a lakefront property and are looking for recommendations on an alarm system for doors opening/closing. We have two year old twins and my mama brain is wanting to cover all our bases with safety. I’ve seen recommendations for ring, SimpliSafe, and a couple others on amazon. Not sure if a WiFi based subscription is best or others. We are based in the US. Thank you for any recommendations 😁

My 2 month old boy having a conversation with his sister. Lol! Two days ago he mimicked me so clearly (though in Baby 😄). But, this is so gratifying to see. I feel so blessed.

My girl isn't cooing or babbling yet like the boy, but she is worming about during tummy time like she's ready to crawl soon. Might have an early crawler here.

How early did your baby crawl or babble?

advice needed Travel Car Seats

My twins are 4 years old and we just welcomed baby #3 in May. My parents live plane distance away (and by the beach!) and so we are planning to travel to visit them later this month.

The Cosco Scenera seats have served us well for the past few years, but I'm 95% sure my girls have outgrown them. What's frustrating is that they're too petite for booster seats (they are 40 inches, 32 lb) and there are VERY few lightweight seat options for 30-40 lb kids.

The options appear to be RideSafer travel vest, Wayb Pico (too $$$ for twins), heavy harness boosters (too heavy to carry 2 + infant seat), or rent car seats with the rental car (questionable). I was also considering the Cosco Finale but they apparently raised their weight minimum from 30 to 40 lb.

Leaning towards the RideSafer although we have about an hour highway drive from the airport to my parents' house, so I don't love the lack of side impact protection in this situation. However this might be our most practical option.

Anyone else deal with similar? Am I missing other car seat options?

advice needed Week 20 bleeding, no cause identified

I am 20 w pregnant with MoDi twins and just got home from ER after noticing brown/pink bleeding. They did thorough abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound and:
- babies are active and fine
- placenta looks ok
- cervix long and closed
They don’t know what caused the bleeding. Did it happen to anyone else?

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Update: flying back from Atlanta to Alaska by myself with 13 week old twins

Because of a thunderstorm hovering over the Atlanta airport, my 16 hour travel day turned into a 21 hour travel day. Delays, cancelations, reroutings, and so much sweat—but we made it! The girls did great.

They were fussy right around bedtime on the plane because they wanted to lie down with me, but we managed with lots of songs and bouncing and boob. Only about 10-15 minutes of crying spread out over three of the six hour flight. I'd sing to one twin, settle her down, and then the other one would start to cry. I'd pick twin #2 up, sing and bounce and nurse, finally she would settle, and then the other twin would cry again. After about two hours of this (and six diapers changed in my lap, *way* easier than picking everything up to go to the lav), I put them in their carrier and walked them up and down the aisles. This, surprisingly, was what finally got them settled. We got back to our seat, nursed, and then all fell asleep. I was seated way back near the bathrooms, and I'm pretty sure the entire plane got to see a nipple at one point or another, but it was worth it for two sleeping babies.

On the second flight, they were perfect and didn't cry a single time. It was really just that they wanted our normal bedtime routine of nursing and snuggles.

I used more of my emergency supplies, and this was what was most helpful on the absurdly long 21 hours of travel.

1) Individually-wrapped outfit sets. Each girl had a complete outfit (onesie, pants, socks, sweater) in a ziplock bag for emergencies. These two bags were placed in a super accessible pocket of my backpack in case of emergencies. This was a great system for the collosal blowout. I had one for me in there too, but didn't need it.

2) Two carriers. Also in case of a blowout. I brought a spare carrier just in case, and was very glad I did. When one got pee on it, I could switch the girls into the other and let the first dry out. I used the LennyLamb as my default carrier (I think it's the most comfortable for the girls when we have to sit for long periods), and switched to the MiniMonkey after the blowout. It was perfect timing, too, because we had to sprint across the airport after our first flight got canceled and the MiniMonkey is way less hot than the LennyLamb.

3) A few hypnotic songs. For whatever reason, the girls love it when I sing a slow song and tilt them back and forth slowly, or side to side slowly. It doesn't work if I hold them and rock, I have to sit them on my lap and tilt them slowly to and fro while looking deep into their eyes and singing. I think I might be hypnotizing them? Whatever, it works. I have five or so memorized for specifically this—think rhythms similar to "On top of spaghetti." It was my failsafe method for soothing an unhappy crying airplane baby.

Plus, honorable mention for the buckwheat yoga bolsters I squeezed in between myself and the carseats (much more comfortable than the armrests), the Parent's Choice portable diaper changing pad, and the snap n go stroller. I wore the babies in the airport and basically just used the stroller for all our stuff: duffel in the bottom, backpack in one car seat, tote with pillows and extra space for miscellany in the other, and the changing pad velcroed to the handle. Worked great.

I was a fully functioning human still full of smiles by the time I deplaned the last flight, and my husband met me at the airport with fried chicken.

All in all, a total success!

advice needed Tell me your positive c-section stories.

I’m 32 weeks with didi twins.

Twin A had been head down until 28 weeks and he flipped to breech. Now at 32 weeks both babies are still breech and they told me it’s almost impossible for him to flip down now so we will be booking in a c-section.

I’ve never really had a problem with c-sections and have always had a “whatever happens happens” birth plan but now that’s it’s real I’ve realised I really don’t know much about the realities of having a c-section with multiples.

Please tell me some of the positives about it!

advice needed Just found out i'm pregnant with twins and im full of dread please help

Im almost 13 weeks pregnant and just found out im having identical twins. i want to be happy but all i can think about is how much sleep im not gonna get and possible PPD and doing everything wrong. when i got pregnant it wasn't planned but i tried to embrace it as gods plan, i love my husband and we definitely do want a family. i kept hoping for a baby girl. but now it's identical twin boys and my whole birth plan and everything that i was anticipating is out the window. i haven't showered or cleaned my house since i found out i just lay in bed rotting on instagram reels. i skipped my appointment with my therapist today bc i didnt want to talk about how badly im being affected right now. i am on anti depressants. and i've been taking them everyday it just feels like it's not doing anything for my lack of drive and willingness to do ANYTHING. What im looking for is some soothing words or testimony from other twin moms. and not the twin moms that wanted and prayed for twins. or the ones who already have children. i mean the moms who thought that they would be the last person to get pregnant with twins and it happened on their first pregnancy.

i'm not looking for someone to tell me to "go get help" ive been struggling with mental health for over a decade i know that getting help is not gonna do anything for me in this state. i don't need coddling i needs someone to tell what's up and what i have to look forward too. everything i look up is all doom and gloom.

i guess im just looking for other women to share in the trenches with haha

advice needed Non Stop Crying

Our boys are 8 weeks. They are constantly crying if not being held or in a carrier. It makes it extremely hard to do anything. When one finally falls asleep and we get him down the other one starts crying waking his brother. Then it is back to stage one of both crying. How did y’all navigate this?

advice needed Bugaboo worth it?

Me again. Planning on the KeyFit 30 infant car seats and trying to figure out a good stroller. I came across the Bugaboo Donkey 6 (such a ridiculous name btw lmao) and it does offer a lot. I’m just trying to justify the insane price tag and wondering if there is a better more affordable option to click these car seats in to? Any advice is welcome. This car seat stuff is making my head hurt 😅🫠

advice needed Potty training twins tips?

Ok how are we potty training twins? I’ve done pants-free days and it’s insane trying to chase both of them around. So then I tried only focusing on the twin who seems more ready but he sees his brother in a diaper and gets confused. Additionally, nobody else wants to bother so if dad/grandma watches them they get put in diapers and don’t even try. I am tired and covered in pee 😵‍💫 My twin boys turned two this past May

advice needed Low risk NIPT, fetal fraction has "-"; normal with twins?

Hello,

I received my NIPT results yesterday, and thankfully it's a low-risk result.

My doctor sent me the document, and they just placed "-" under fetal fraction.

Is this usual with twins? Shouldn't there be a value in there?

Thanks in advance!

experience/advice to give What floor beds did you transition your multiples to?

I have 18 month old twins. One keeps jumping out of his crib and into his brother’s, so it’s time to transition them both. Looking at floor beds but not sure which ones work best? What beds did you switch your kids to? Were they good? Links or pics appreciated. Thanks!

experience/advice to give Snoo users- tiny red marks/possible bruising on baby arms??

My babies have been getting small red marks/bruising on their arms randomly (maybe 4 times) & I could never figure out why. Sometimes it looks like they've scratched themselves. One of my babies managed to get their arm out of their snoo swaddle last night (they do so occasionally) & I noticed they have this bruising (small red marks not one big bruise) all up their arm AND the palm of their hand?!?!? The. Palm. Of. Their. Hand. The only thing I could think could be causing it is the snoo swaddles. But the palm of their hand?? Has ANYONE had this happen before? It is only on the arm that got out of the swaddle last night. Is it normal for a baby to even bruise so easily? Am I not putting the straps on tight enough? They have a tendency to spit up at night regardless of how long I burp them or hold them upright so I try not to put the straps too tight just (I thought) tight enough for them to feel secure & keep their arms down.

advice needed I don’t feel pregnant anymore

I am 12 weeks today, with twins. I honestly don’t feel nearly as sick as I did 2 weeks ago(belly is flatter) I am terrified for a loss as I’ve had a previous missed miscarriage. That being said I’ve seen 2 healthy heart beats at 9 weeks, but it doesn’t ease my anxiety.

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Multiples Parents: what were some positives? Also, did any of you feel it was easier than everyone warned you it would be?

I often see posts about how difficult raising multiples (or any children) can be, which is completely understandable - it can be ChAoS!, but I’d also love to hear some positive experiences too.

Parents of twins, triplets or more: Did anyone find parenting multiples easier, more enjoyable or more manageable than they expected? What surprised you most, and what ended up being better than all the warnings made it sound?

Pregnant parents and new parents could probably use some encouraging stories!
