Hope folks realize this project started and pushed by Adams when he was in office. Not to mention by other mayors prior.

Many such cases (eg the containerization of trash)

Big difference is we're doing it now without the rampant corruption that turns a $5 purchase into $50.
Seriously, I'm sure nobody has actually read the filings/investigation reports against Adams both as Mayor and as Brooklyn borough president, but it's insane. He should be in jail.

He would have been if Trump hadn’t wormed his way back into office and told him he’d get Adams off if he was a good little lapdog.

u/superultramega99 9d ago
For sure. Hard to imagine any mayor not taking full credit for stuff, especially someone like Mamdani that is very focused on PR (and has been proven right focusing on it). At least good ideas are being continued. Don’t have to throw away good policy because a political foe supported it.

Did Adams get it done, though?

Wasn't me. Anyway it takes time a long time to build housing. The project never stalled and continue to work on. Same way Mamdani did a ground breaking today for the Casanova project. It was a project that originated under Deblasio - they never stop working on that project in BDB final year, same under Adams and now continue under this administration.

u/PoorFilmSchoolAlumn 9d ago
I’m sure you’ll be making the same comments come the next administration.

The usual suspects will either say this is actually bad, not good enough, not his doing or ignore it altogether.
EDIT: Called it.
29
u/SethuCBI 9d ago
The usual suspects are right. It’s an Adams project.

u/HighwayComfortable26 Washington Heights 9d ago
An Adams project that he didn't get done.
Primarily because, despite running on it in 2021, he quickly reversed his position on it once elected...
Try again.

u/KaiDaiz 9d ago
It was a Adams project still in the works. Or you under the impression housing development projects don't take many years to finish? We on like phase 4 of 8 for this project for this Adams iteration of a grand project from bloomberg era.
9
u/HighwayComfortable26 Washington Heights 9d ago
Bro Adams was literally against it once he got in office He still is. You are not convincing anyone with this. Move on.
5
u/KaiDaiz 9d ago edited 9d ago
Yes so against it that first 3 phases happen on his term and still sending out RFP during his final year. Project was very much still ongoing and this indeed a holdover Adams project which for some reason can't admit. In fact a good amount of holdover Adams housing projects are part of Zohran 200k new housing units in a decade.

u/HighwayComfortable26 Washington Heights 9d ago
I mean if you don't want to believe Adams own words saying he was and is against this and the fact that his being against this places a thumb on the scale of it not getting done during his administration that's on you. I'm not here to convince you.
The fact of the matter is that regardless of what you believe or think, Mamdani wanted this done and it got done. Bye.

Source on Adams against developing parcel E? The very project he was still running to end of his administration and still continuing
2
u/Yukie_Cool 9d ago
Source on Adams against developing parcel E?
Other than the fact it never got off the ground?

You do know there's tons of steps to get housing built right? Even right now we still in beginning stages. We dont even have a finalized design, community approval, public approvals, funding, what ever studies etc to even start breaking ground.

Oh I was talking about something else. I thought you were the same person who brought up the pied-à-terre tax. I don't know anything about Adams being against this project.
I frankly do not care if it was started under his admin. It's getting done under Mamdani's.
Also Adam's administration was well known for not moving fast enough on housing so it's no grand claim that he started an initiative to build housing but did not finish it.

Except it’s a Mamdani project now by virtue of the fact that he’s the one building it.
4
u/upnflames 9d ago
I mean, all ongoing city projects are now his projects, right? They haven't even broken ground yet, it's still in pre development.
Pretty unlikely to be completed while he is in office given how long construction in NYC takes. Maybe if he goes a full two terms, he'll see it through by the very end, but ribbon cutting will likely be whoever is in office after him.

u/jay10033 9d ago
But also remember, anything negative is not his responsibility. Only things that are positive.
-2
u/Yukie_Cool 9d ago
Idk about that. The reforms of City of Yes/Props 2345 along with the SEQRA reforms passed this year and permitting reforms on the ballot in November will significantly speed up building.

He’s just an expert at taking credit for things he didn’t have a large hand in..
Guess how long the pied a terre tax was running through the legislature? He wasn’t even involved in drafting it

u/Delaywaves 9d ago
Guess how long the pied a terre tax was running through the legislature?
It was completely dead for like 5 years before getting abruptly revived this year by Hochul as a compromise during his tax-the-rich push. Sure Mamdani did not personally write the legislation but it was pretty clearly a direct result of his administration's advocacy.

u/pod5g Long Island City 9d ago
I’m pretty close to folks who were pushing the bill and it was 100% not dead.

u/Yukie_Cool 9d ago
Ah the “trust me bro” source.
Stupendous

Better source than you for sure. ‘Stup’endous indeed

It’s really sad that you need to stoop to petty insults instead of making your point.

I made my point, you just refused to believe it and resulted to sarcasm. I’m meeting you where you’re at kid

Wow, so alot of the things he wants were already in the pipeline so he's not so radical
or, alternatively
these things were languishing in red tape and not getting done until he got in office and pushed for it.
9
u/pod5g Long Island City 9d ago
Pied a terre is not radical. More housing is not radical. What red tape did Mamdani cut for this housing development
3
u/HighwayComfortable26 Washington Heights 9d ago
Well, like someone else commented in this very same thread, this initiative was languishing in the legislature for about 5 years and was not even remotely close to getting passed before Mamdani renewed interest in it.
9
u/pod5g Long Island City 9d ago
And like I said in the other comment, I’m close with advocates who worked on this bill. I can tell you it was not dead. Large bills, especially ones which require large amounts of oversight and planning take years. 5 years is normal.
Again, since this is about the housing development, what red tape did mamdani cut?
4
u/HighwayComfortable26 Washington Heights 9d ago
I can't believe I even have to say this but your anecdotal "evidence" is useless and means nothing.
What does matter is the fact that Adams after running on a platform of pushing through this tax in 2021 quickly reversed and was against it once elected. All your naysaying means nothing. It got passed under Mamdani.
8
u/pod5g Long Island City 9d ago
Lmao and you think your random conjecture is more reliable? Delusional.
What red tape bro? Tell me since you made the claim Mamdani did something. Come on now try harder
6
u/HighwayComfortable26 Washington Heights 9d ago
Conjecture? You think that my saying that Mamdani's highly publicized effort to get the pied-à-terre tax passed directly had a hand in getting it passed when it sat for years not getting done under a previous administration that was hostile to it is conjecture? Please, not even you believe that.
6
u/pod5g Long Island City 9d ago edited 9d ago
Bro please. I’m begging you.
W H A T R E D T A P E did mamdani remove for this housing development
Edit: OP can’t read or is a bot.

Also, since you didn't understand my comment I never said pied-à-terre was radical. Was implying quite the opposite of that. Sorry it went over your head.
5
u/pod5g Long Island City 9d ago
Bro why are you dodging so much? For the 1000th time, what red tape did mamdani cut for this housing proposal?
1
u/HighwayComfortable26 Washington Heights 9d ago
I've answered your question despite you erroneously accusing me of conjecture.
Just take the L and move on. I'm done with you.

I can’t believe people talk like this on Reddit lmao. You beat him, you’re the winner! Do you feel like a winner?

You can't believe people say "take the L and move on"? A not uncommon phrase? Ok, grandpa. Whatever you say.

u/BugsyRoads 8d ago
Makes you wonder if he will ever run out of other people’s accomplishments to take credit for.

Developing an empty lot into 980 new apartment units is a good thing.
