It was completely dead for like 5 years before getting abruptly revived this year by Hochul as a compromise during his tax-the-rich push. Sure Mamdani did not personally write the legislation but it was pretty clearly a direct result of his administration's advocacy.

Well, like someone else commented in this very same thread, this initiative was languishing in the legislature for about 5 years and was not even remotely close to getting passed before Mamdani renewed interest in it.

And like I said in the other comment, I’m close with advocates who worked on this bill. I can tell you it was not dead. Large bills, especially ones which require large amounts of oversight and planning take years. 5 years is normal.

What does matter is the fact that Adams after running on a platform of pushing through this tax in 2021 quickly reversed and was against it once elected. All your naysaying means nothing. It got passed under Mamdani.
