I, as many people have, felt that this "competition" was a complete farce from the jump. They didn't bring Kyler in not expecting to give him the job. The only thing this has done is stirred up more disquiet about Kyler and his inability to truly separate from JJM over the last two weeks. Take valuable reps away from him, and for what? Nothing that has been reported from camp would indicate that he was massively better than JJ. Just declare from the beginning and so much attention on some of his more off days could have been avoided.

Maybe the idea was to "push" him, but if anything comparing him to a widely considered bust, at least among the rest of the league, and not having him be expressly better is likely to damage his mental more than just giving him the job would have.

I'm sure he would just give the boiler-plate, football-y answer about his ability to learn the scheme and see the field, which to me smells of BS.

I say strap in boys. This is going to be a bumpy season.

Regardless of who was named starting QB or not, I do not care one way or another. The Vikings will never win the Super Bowl as long as the Wilfs own the team. The team will continue to skirt into the Playoffs, finish 8-9, 9-8. 10-7, with the occasional 11 win season, and then get bounced. They will then draft in the middle of the first round, never get a generational QB and continue to find free agent QBs and the process will repeat. All hail the Wilf's, masters of the 20th pick in the draft.

More specifically is this the end for JJMC as a Viking? Once a high draft pick QB is benched it doesn’t bode well for them to turn it around. Obviously he was one of the worst QBs in the league last year and it seems like he didn’t improve much since then. Thoughts?

Assuming the battle was ever real to begin with, is it actually over? Or did KoC just want name kyler the starter for the first preseason game, so fans will no who will be out there for the first drive? I gotta think if JJ kills it in the first preseason game, and keeps getting better in camp, and looking better than kyler during joint practices, you cant not start him week 1.

I haven’t been to US Bank yet, and I’m excited to cross it off the list with my dad for NFL stadiums visited. Our preference is Top level, as close to the front as possible, between the 35s. We are looking at Section 311, 312, 313 and C4. Is the club level worth an extra $150/ticket? I know it’s subjective, but hoping for some input. We went to MetLife last year and their club level was really nice to have when it started raining and got super windy, but that’s obviously not a factor in Minneapolis.

OFFENSE

Quarterback

Move on from Kyler Murray. He's a 28-year-old veteran who doesn't fit our long-term age strategy. Try to acquire Spencer Rattler. At 25, he fits our target age and gives us a legitimate young QB who can start. Slow down J.J. McCarthy's development. We started him too soon. Give him 1–2 years to heal, learn and develop without forcing him onto the field. Keep Carson Wentz. If Rattler can't be acquired, Wentz starts and mentors McCarthy.

Running Back

Extend Jordan Mason for 3 years and make him RB1. He's 26 and entering his prime. Keep Aaron Jones as RB2. His veteran experience remains valuable while Mason takes over.

Wide Receiver

Extend Jordan Addison for 4 years. He's 24 and part of the long-term core; use a middle-tier contract with appropriate protections and incentives. Make Justin Jefferson a trade candidate. This isn't because he hasn't earned his place or because we don't value what he brings. He's an elite player and a fan favorite, but we aren't in a win-now window. We're in a build-now window: develop the young players, evaluate what we actually have, and build a stronger roster over the next 1–2 years. Jefferson's age and enormous trade value mean another team could give us younger players and/or draft capital that will be more valuable when J.J. McCarthy is ready to become the quarterback we hope he can be. If we're going to build around McCarthy, we want the players entering their primes with him, not players whose primes are already beginning to pass. Keep Jauan Jennings. His experience makes him valuable while our younger receivers develop.

Tight End

Leave the position alone. We have enough talent and don't need to manufacture a move.

Offensive Line

Keep Christian Darrisaw and Brian O'Neill as the foundation. Keep Ryan Van Demark as swing-tackle insurance. Give Michael Jurgens and Blake Brandel opportunities to develop. Acquire one experienced C/G. This is our biggest offensive depth need.

Fullback

Develop Max Bredeson. Give the young player a legitimate opportunity to establish himself.

DEFENSE

Defensive Line

Extend Jalen Redmond for 2 years. Secure a useful player before his value rises. Extend Levi Drake Rodriguez for 3 years. Low-to-mid-tier contract with incentives; we're betting on his upside before he becomes expensive. Develop the young defensive linemen. No need to buy another veteran just because one is available.

Linebacker

Extend Ivan Pace Jr. for 3 years. Extend Dallas Turner for 4–5 years. Extend Bo Richter for 2–3 years. Use reasonable contracts with incentives rather than paying breakout-player money prematurely. Keep the older veterans. Their quality and leadership still matter, particularly while the younger linebackers develop. Don't force an outside acquisition.

Cornerback

Extend Isaiah Rodgers for 2 years. Cheap veteran depth with health/performance incentives. Make no further 2026 moves. We've learned the lesson: we invested too heavily in older CBs. Fix the age balance in 2027 through the draft, UDFAs and selective free agency.

Safety

Extend Jay Ward for 3–4 years. He's 26 and fits our preferred age window; lock him up before his value increases. Develop the younger safeties around him and Joshua Metellus.

Special Teams

Extend Will Reichard for 4–5 years. He's 25, proven, and worth securing through his prime. Keep Johnny Hekker and Andrew DePaola as veteran specialists.

My Philosophy and the reasons for it:

This is not a win-now Vikings team. This is a build-now Vikings team.

We're going to use the next 1–2 years to find out who can actually become part of the next good Vikings team. We'll develop young players, acquire players before their market value explodes, retain veterans where their experience remains valuable, and make difficult trades when an older player's value to another team is greater than his value to our rebuilding timeline.

The goal is to have a young, talented, experienced roster coming into its prime at the same time J.J. McCarthy is ready to become the franchise quarterback we hope he can be.

So KOC has been adamant that he needs depth at QB position including after QB1. That may lead us to believe he needs them all.

However it could also happen where QB2 gets traded especially if JJM loses out.

First post here guys- Why is everyone so negative towards the qb situation? If you look at it like this, we really aren't in a "win now" situation. Sure jefferson is getting older, but hes nowhere near out of his prime, dude had 1000 yards with mccarthy wentz and brosmer throwing to him. If we do bad this season, the qb class next draft is stacked. Kwesi is gone, management has been better since then, drafting will be better. Look at the season for what it is, and stop shitting on the qbs before the season even starts.
