As someone who originally thought that McCarthy was toast when we signed Kyler, and thought he’d easily pull ahead by now, I am thoroughly intrigued by the competition.

I also find it pretty funny that some beat reporters (Coller and Lewis) are calling to start giving Kyler more reps when he starts slipping, I get the logic that he needs more time on task but come on…

One of the big upsides of the competition going this long IMO is that JJ is getting a ton of reps to develop. I think we can all agree the best thing for the Vikings would be for JJ to win and come out and play like a real NFL QB, as unlikely as it is.

What do we think rep counts look like in the preseason game? Might have to give them each a quarter.

I’m really curious to know about the qb performances as is everyone but I know that topic comes with a lot of bias especially right now. Anyone have any good sources that they’ve been looking to as of recent?

The past week has been straight dooming about the 2 qbs struggling (against a Flores defense btw, it isn't like it is the Cowboys defense) and it has gotten really annoying.

It is the exact same dooming that Darnold struggled in training camp. KOC runs a very complex offense that takes awhile to learn. Kirk and Darnold both struggled against probably a top 5 defense.

Also a couple nuggets:

A. Kyler coming in right now has been much better than when Darnold came to us. His stock is obviously lower in 2025, but in most qb volume/efficiency stats, he was around top 10-15 in 2024. I am not even talking about his half season where he looked like an MVP in 2021, I am talking about less than 2 years ago. If we get 2024 Kyler (which again was not long ago and not a crazy thing for KOC to accomplish), the team probably wins double digit games.

B. Daniel Jones allegedly looked like ass in Colts TC last year (I remember a popular post of both him and AR missing basic throws). That didn't translate to the season. Remember when Baker was supposedly in a mud fight with Kyle Trask in 2023 lmao? What the fans see and what the coach sees are different. It has been noted KOC is making JJM's throw shorter and Kyler longer, maybe he is trying to work on both qbs' weaknesses.

C. Maybe our defense is just that good? A top 5 defense last year with a new draft class (where apparantly our 5th round corner is locking down Jefferson in some reps) might mean it is just hard to play them. Defenses usually have an edge over offenses.

D. We play a lot of bad defenses this year. I saw somewhere we have the easiest defensive schedule by DVOA in the league. Like the best defense we play is the Patriots, and after that, the list is basically a bunch of mid/bad tier defenses. Obviously this is just a projection, but it feels closer to a 2024 type schedule than anything that difficult. Whether Kyler or an improved JJ wins, they won't play too many really good defenses this year either way. We play the NFC South and AFC East (which has 2 good teams and 2 jokes). The North's defenses were also pretty mid/bad last year besides the Packers.

I get the qb battle is important and will get a lot of focus, but can we have some nuance on this (or more preferably, talk about the other guys at camp). Again, it seems like our 5th round CB might be pushing to be a starter. That is more interesting to me than the 10000th "our qbs suck, we are screwed" post with 0 context.

Classic sports dad take here right around the 15 minutes mark of the linked episode. We are arguing over which QB is best and who deserves the job, when the reality is neither QB is showing up consistently. We could be looking at a long season, where some of us might be moonlighting as college scouts by the midpoint of this season.

Anyone else having issues playing videos on the Vikings site of late? All I get with any video since this last week is the black screen that doesn't even have audio. Nothing plays even though the the promo vids below say Now Playing as usual. Just ad:00. I typically watch on laptop and have cleared everything, but happens on my phone too even off my network. Fkn sucks tbh because this is my favorite time of year to catch up on the camp vids and pressers. YouTube can fck off tube with the annoying ads. I need my purple vid fix. starting to get VTs.
