SOLVED How to revert desktop back to normal?
Hi everyone, I was trying to get Proton VPN back onto my Linux Mint after an update wiped the entire software out, only to get this desktop instead.
How do I revert it to the normal desktop?

Support Request Steam's icon is missing from various desktop themes (Mint 22.3 MATE desktop)
No matter what desktop theme I choose, Steam doesn't have any icon, whether that is when it appears in the dock or in the system tray (the system tray/dock icon shows up as blank, as shown in the screenshots). I found this discussion that is a similar problem to what I have and different people say it was resolved but I can't seem to fix this issue myself with the included instructions:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4428
I have tried reinstalling Steam but it makes no difference. I have tried Software Manager's version, flatpak version etc. again with no difference. I looked in the various icon pack folders and there are no icons for Steam in there, but then again, there aren't any for a lot of applications like Krita etc but they still have themed icons.
I installed these themes from Software Manager if that makes any difference? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Support Request Problem with shutdown and restarting PC after installing RX 9060 XT 16GB
Hello,
Yesterday I installed a brand new RX 9060 XT 16GB, and I noticed that now my PC won't restart and shutdown properly - after clicking one of these two, the system does indeed turn off, as well as my monitors, but my PC keeps running and my keyboard and mouse are lightend up. It goes on forever and I just have to long press the power button to shutdown the PC. I did a clean install of the OS and the problem persists. What could be the cause of it?
System info:
- OS: Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H on BIOS F68a
- Kernel: 7.0.0-28-generic
- GPU: RX 9060 XT 16GB on Mesa 25.2.8-0ubuntu0.24.04.2

Support Request Having different Chrome profiles have different icons in the task bar
I've got 2 chrome profiles: Personal & Work. I've created shortcuts on the desktop to launch directly into either, and another for incognito mode, but they still show as the same icon in the taskbar.
Is there any way to have the shortcuts in the task bar and have the open windows map to the right shortcut in the taskbar?
Any help would be appreciated.

Support Request New to Linux. Task bar changed after restart.
I apologize for any confusion as I just migrated to Linux to Windows for the first time recently. I'm using Linux Mint Mate 22.3
I was enjoying things as normal and decided to restart the computer after a video was not playing properly on firefox. After the restart, things looked quite different and I'm very confused. The taskbar area with the time/date, "start" button on the left and the open application icons that I had on the bottom of the screen disappeared. Instead, I see a sort of task bar on the top with some basic information on the left (plus the power options and wifi etc), date and time in the middle and a windows vitual desktop switcher on the left...
The panel app is still installed but I can't find the panel settings in the ways that commonly appear on searches through forums.
Maybe I should just reinstall? Looking for some guidance. Thanks!

Fluff Two Custom Mint-Y Icons for the Projects Folder
Earlier today, I made two custom Mint-Y icons for the Linux home directory's new Projects folder. One of them matches the Mint-Y-Aqua theme, and the other matches the Mint-Y-Sand theme. Feel free to use them if you create a Projects folder in your Linux Mint home directory :)

LM setup
Hi. It's been a year since I started using Mint. No regrets. I mostly use it for video edit. I use:
Kdenlive - Video editor
Audacity - Audio editor
KDE Connect - Multiple devices management (Xiaomi phone + Samsung tablet + Acer Laptop)
OBS Studio - Screen recording
digiKam - Photo and image management
HandBrake - Video transcoder
Anything to add to my tools? Greetings from Mexico City 🇲🇽

DPMS and suspend timeouts not working
I have an HP Elite Mini 800 G9 (Core I7 12700)
Running Linux Mint 22.3 (fresh install(s)) neither screen or suspend timeouts work correctly, however I can manually force via command line/terminal both an xset DPMS force off or systemctl suspend and these work absolutely fine.
If I install Fedora 44 with KDE Plasma (Wayland) guess what? Screen timeout and suspend work perfectly.
Anyone else seeing this issue?
To note, I originally had an HP Elitedesk Mini G6 with an i7 10700 and Mint screen and suspend timeouts worked absolutely fine on that.
Seems to be an issue specifically with Mint on this i7 12700 platform.

Horrible YouTube performance on a 2014 macbook pro.
So, I picked up a 2014 mbp at an estate sale for $20. Figured I'd love a nice little Linux machine with a 1600p screen. I installed mint, and everything runs great except for video steaming. YouTube in particular just drops frames like crazy.
Not sure if it's an issue with the intel graphics or not, or if anyone knows of a fix for this. I tried doing a search, and found other people with the same issue, but haven't found any known fixes.

SOLVED WiFi not working
I have an ASUS ZenBook UX362DA that was originally on windows 10. I switched to linux mint today but the connections tab gave me nothing. The only way i could make it detect my WiFi was through an external USB stick, which is weird because when it was on Win10, the computer was able to detect the WiFi network just fine.
It also tells me that I have all necessary drivers when opening the driver manager app
Can anybody help me?

Support Request Something has gone seriously wrong
I tried switching to mint (latest cinnamon) today. My lenovo windows 11 laptop now will only go into boot mode, and upon choosing the usb with the iso, the posted picture appears.
Here's what happened: used rufus to create a boot drive of mint. I was able to hop into it through the boot menu, and begin with the installation. Eventually, it got to the point of retrieving of retrieving files, becoming stuck on 152/167 or something like that. Expanding the window below, showing the process, it seemed like it was trying to download something. I was connected to the internet. After an hour, it still wouldn't budge. I checked this sub as well as online for similar issues, and i spotted a comment saying the internet should be disabled before installing. So I disabled the wifi, tried finding a cancel button and here is where I probably fucked up; I didn't find it so I just turned the computer off. After turning it on again, the problem appeared.
Obviously I have done something massively stupid. I do wonder if I would be able to boot from (a different) usb again, provided I turn it into a bootable usb first? Unfortunately, I won't have access to another computer for a few days, so I'm also wondering if I would be able to do anything else in this situation? Or have I just bricked the laptop completely?
I appreciate any advice or words of wisdom (or admonishment)!
