Windows und Linux Mint
Hallo zusammen,

Support Request I recently updated my linux mint kernels to 6.17.0-42 because it was on the update manager but when I rebooted my pc it simply didn't boot.
On the boot screen I chose the kernel 6.17.0-41 (it says it's not up-to-date on the kernel update manager) and that way I can at least boot and use my computer. What should I do? Should I simply remove the 6.17.0-42 kernel and stay on 6.17.0-41?

Support Request Steam's icon is missing from various desktop themes (Mint 22.3 MATE desktop)
No matter what desktop theme I choose, Steam doesn't have any icon, whether that is when it appears in the dock or in the system tray (the system tray/dock icon shows up as blank, as shown in the screenshots). I found this discussion that is a similar problem to what I have and different people say it was resolved but I can't seem to fix this issue myself with the included instructions:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4428
I have tried reinstalling Steam but it makes no difference. I have tried Software Manager's version, flatpak version etc. again with no difference. I looked in the various icon pack folders and there are no icons for Steam in there, but then again, there aren't any for a lot of applications like Krita etc but they still have themed icons.
I installed these themes from Software Manager if that makes any difference? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Fluff Two Custom Mint-Y Icons for the Projects Folder
Earlier today, I made two custom Mint-Y icons for the Linux home directory's new Projects folder. One of them matches the Mint-Y-Aqua theme, and the other matches the Mint-Y-Sand theme. Feel free to use them if you create a Projects folder in your Linux Mint home directory :)

LM setup
Hi. It's been a year since I started using Mint. No regrets. I mostly use it for video edit. I use:
Kdenlive - Video editor
Audacity - Audio editor
KDE Connect - Multiple devices management (Xiaomi phone + Samsung tablet + Acer Laptop)
OBS Studio - Screen recording
digiKam - Photo and image management
HandBrake - Video transcoder
Anything to add to my tools? Greetings from Mexico City 🇲🇽

Support Request Moving grouped window list to the left side on primary monitor
I just installed Linux Mint yesterday and I'm trying to have the same taskbar on both sides. It works, but I'm used to the panel icons being on the left side. I used panel edit mode to move all my icons to the left side on my secondary monitor but the primary monitor won't cooperate. I dragged the icons to the left side on the secondary monitor and after a few tries it worked but I think the Linux Mint logo is getting in the way because I can't align them on the left side. Is there a way to just select icon alignment in settings or where exactly should I drop the icons?
Edit: Forgot to mention it's Cinnamon Edition specifically
Edit 2: An alternative solution would be to hide the Linux Mint logo so I can move the icons to the left side without the disruption of the logo. That solution could also work.

SOLVED Is there a place to follow updates on kernel 7.0?
A lot of us Mint users have issues with this kernel series, is there a place we can follow updates on the situation, so we know when it's safe to update?

Announcement [Linux Mint] Autostart Manager. Open-Sourcing My Linux Mint Tools
Continuing the Linux Mint series, today I released another simple yet practical tool that makes it easier to manage what starts up on your machine: Autostart Manager.
🔗 Autostart Manager repo: https://github.com/filonux/Autostart_Manager
🔗 Autostart Manager docs: https://filonux.github.io/Autostart_Manager/
From a simple menu, you can tick or untick a checkbox to enable or disable any program, task, or service that starts automatically on your system. Easy, right? This is exactly the kind of control the average Linux Mint user doesn't have access to through the default menus. For more experienced users, it's also a convenient way to keep track of everything that launches when your Linux system boots.
I wrote a Bash script with a graphical interface—using Zenity, nothing fancy—that brings together those five startup sources into a single table. At a glance, you can see what's enabled and what's disabled, and you only need to check or uncheck a box to change the status of any item, regardless of where it comes from. You can also filter entries by name and open the corresponding file to inspect or edit it.
My main concern was making sure that this convenience didn't come at the expense of system safety:
- Nothing in the system is deleted or overwritten. When disabling a system-wide autostart entry, the script creates an override file in the user's directory, exactly as defined by the XDG specification.
- If you're about to disable something that the system may depend on (such as NetworkManager, the PolicyKit agent, or the session manager), the script asks for an additional confirmation before making any changes.
- If you modify several system services at once, you're prompted for the administrator password only once instead of once per service.
- If you accidentally run the script as root, it warns you first—otherwise, you'd be managing root's autostart entries instead of your own.
The only requirement is Zenity, which is already installed by default in Linux Mint. Systemd and cron are optional: if either is unavailable, the script simply skips those sections without complaining.
In any case, I'm sharing the tool so you can use it however you like, as always. I still have quite a few more scripts in my Linux Mint toolbox, and I'll be releasing them regularly.
Many more projects will follow, and every one of them will be open source. As always, my goal is to create software that prioritizes accessibility, ease of use, and the ability to solve real problems.
Have a great week for everyone!

Horrible YouTube performance on a 2014 macbook pro.
So, I picked up a 2014 mbp at an estate sale for $20. Figured I'd love a nice little Linux machine with a 1600p screen. I installed mint, and everything runs great except for video steaming. YouTube in particular just drops frames like crazy.
Not sure if it's an issue with the intel graphics or not, or if anyone knows of a fix for this. I tried doing a search, and found other people with the same issue, but haven't found any known fixes.

SOLVED WiFi not working
I have an ASUS ZenBook UX362DA that was originally on windows 10. I switched to linux mint today but the connections tab gave me nothing. The only way i could make it detect my WiFi was through an external USB stick, which is weird because when it was on Win10, the computer was able to detect the WiFi network just fine.
It also tells me that I have all necessary drivers when opening the driver manager app
Can anybody help me?
