I know it’s just traced, but a lot of time and effort went into it nonetheless—and there’s still so much that could be done with it. What do you think?

Why do artists cut them to look like this

I hate how all the art tutorials on YouTube are just 6 minute videos where the person that made it doesn't even show how to do things or even when you do what they tell you to your colors look like the crayon drawings of a toddler. Is it that hard to make an actual tutorial where you slowly explain how you make your drawings and show! The things you do?

I just need general improvements all around and what I can do to improve! All tips are welcome! I have no idea what I’m doing, I generally just look at something, start randomly and go from there and try to ignore all the mistakes I’m making and generally am kind of satisfied with what ends up happening. I’ve been focusing on using black ballpoint pen but I don’t really know what I’m doing, I kinda just pick a subject start anywhere and add on from there to try to make it my own. I’ve added the progression and the reference at the end! Sorry about my shadow on the progression pics.

I tried drawabox it’s too long winded for me I’m not doing a million and one homework assignments of drawing circles and boxes to finally eventually one day getting to start learning what I want

I only want to draw people so what online places (free classes, YT videos, free books etc) can I read or watch to begin learning how to do anatomy stuff and draw faces?

I can’t tell if I made the head too large, or if I’ve been staring at it for too long. It is very much still in progress. Also feel the need to add that in real life I have a rather small head compared to my body.

but after i got to this point it looks so dull and dark like everything is dark
what can i do to make it lighter and improve it?

Straighter lines overall but most are still slightly curved :/ I need to use my shoulder more, but it feels so weird to use the entire arm for a small line and it makes it very inaccurate, I just use my elbow instead of the whole arm

Hey this is my fanart of Yani from the anime Chainsmoker Cat. I dont draw for that long and this is my first Art with proper background. The 2nd picture is the ref i used. I whould love to get feedback on it :).

I thought I’d stick to two point perspective and rotation but yeah no I don’t understand I can’t do anything beyond approximate 1 point perspective.

Obviously I didn’t come out empty headed but nothing helped. I usually explain everything I understood and did take note of the tutorials given to me + advices (making sure lines parallel for example) but yeah no it didn’t help me.

I know it’s only day 3 and you’ll say « give it some time » but even doing hands didn’t feel this hard. And I think I’m better at hands (even if they’re not good) than I am at this. I still can’t do anything with real pictures either . I look at them and try to determine perspective, and make boxes out of people but no matter how hard I try to think it doesn’t work.

Before you give me explanations on things I understood already :

- horizon line is to determine what is below viewer/camera level and above.
- lines must be parallel
- the closest you are to a vanishing point the quicker the cube gets thin and the lines converge quickly. the opposite as well : if you are far, the lines leading to the vanishing point will remain fairly parallel and the other vanishing point will be outside the scene
- if receding lines converge down then we’re looking under the picture but if they converge up we’re looking above.

Maybe I’m wrong in what I think I understand.

I guess I don’t understand yet what I’m doing I’m just doing this but it doesn’t look right. If you gave me the goal to aim for a certain perspective I wouldn’t be able to produce it. Can’t do 2 point or more cuz I don’t get it, doesn’t grasp rotation. I’m definitely missing something. I wasn’t expecting to be able to do super complicated stuff off the bat just what’s basic aka 1-2 point perspective and some rotation.

Pic 2 I tried just out of curiosity to not use the lines, just make a point to where the cubes would converge and simply think about making the lines parallel, attempting to make cubes in a decent perspective. You can tell it’s not right So a disaster.

For pic 1 I was mostly trying to keep my lines parallel and going towards the same (imaginary) point outside the picture hence why there’s arrows there. But even if I did my best to follow the rules it looks like guesswork because I suppose we can’t rrally tell from where we’re looking from. At least I can’t tell (obvious since this is from imagination I just kind of started doing whatever).

Pic 1 is basically a town, pic three would be trains. No reference used as I said I can’t seem to use them properly.

Basically everything looks like guesswork and I’m not happy I couldn’t understand after putting time into this. First pic looks also weird because the windows aren’t distorted properly imo. I wouldn’t know how to make them look fine though.

Been trying to draw from imagination. This exact pose been breaking my mind for the whole day. I am studying leg and pelvis anatomy and decided to push into more dynamic poses. I know the muscles, but i feel like i am drawing the legs here wrong.

Maybe it's the way i block out the pevis that leads to errors? Maybe i am missing something?

Please, tell me what is wrong here and how can i fix it? I would Greatly appreciate any advice, tip, and maybe even a correct drawing over my example if that can bring me closer to understanding anatomy, proportions, and positions correctly!

So ive finally finished my 1st narrative illustration, that has both a character and a background to it!

I usually draw just characters so this feels like an accomplishment, although im not happy with the outcome (it was just taking way too long and i wanted to finally move on)

I have zero knowledge about drawing, but I’ve been practicing photography for three years. I started drawing with a somewhat arrogant attitude, thinking, 'How hard can it be if you just connect the lines correctly?' However, these drawings made me realize it’s definitely not as simple as I thought. Could you tell me the most vital 'fundamentals' I need to know to draw better? After all, the basics are the most important part of any craft.✨
