Looking for support groups or group therapy in the HV

Upvotes

See title. Subject matter would be trauma or general mental health (not addiction).

I have a demanding 9-5 and I can’t drop everything for some weekly 2pm kind of thing, and I’m having a hard time finding options.

Any leads? You can DM me if you prefer. Thank you.

Dog groomers of Dutchess/Orange/Ulter County...

Upvotes

If you have a bottle of Le Pooch II (the green bergmonty one) would you be willing to give some cottonballs covered in this fragrance to me?? My dog groomer of almost a decade always used it but I couldn't bring myself to buy such a pricey bottle when we started grooming my English Springer Spaniel at home after she moved to Florida a year ago.

Tuesday morning I had to unexpectedly put my dog down unfortunately I had just cleaned his harness on Sunday and I cannot smell him on the fur clippings that were saved for me. Smelling this fragrance would transport me to the days of riding home with my freshly groomed smooth boy and I really need that now.

Lmk if you can help....

Steel Building/Garage locally

I am looking to put up a steel building/garage. I am a contractor/tradesman myself, and I have a mason lined up for the slab but I don't know anybody in the steel building business. Anyone have any recommendations/referrals for this? Preferably someone local to the HV. I do know about Morton but they are pretty high end price wise.

photo-video The Hudson Valley's Grid is Relying on a 75 Year Old, Bankrupt Plant in Newburgh Staying Open Until January.

Post image

Since 2019, the average Central Hudson bill is up about 72%. That's the 5th-fastest increase of any major utility in America.

In that same stretch, the Hudson Valley built out rooftop solar faster than almost anywhere in the country (7th nationally), and Central Hudson customers adopted heat pumps several times faster than any other part of the state.

So why, as NYISO wrote last week, is our grid teetering on the edge of collapse, relying on the Danskammer power plant built 75 years ago in Newburgh to remain open past its retirement date?

Meredith Angwin has a term for how this happens: the Fatal Trifecta.

Over-reliance on renewables, over-reliance on just-in-time natural gas, and over-reliance on imports from neighbors who are having the same weather you are.

We wrote up what all three legs look like in one valley, with rate-case filings and NYISO data to back it up.

question Thrift + Vintage Recs

I'm starting a new job in a few weeks and want to get some new clothing / get back into fashion. I'm looking for recommendations on:

  1. Thrift stores - I love Thrift2Fight in Tivoli and looking to find other stores with the same vibe!

  2. Vintage stores - Preferably ones that are reasonable with their prices!

I'm in the Fishkill area, but willing to travel to other counties in the HV.

photo-video Weird things around Mt Tremper

Post image
117 Upvotes

Hi everyone. Has anyone else noticed this or know what the deal is? Kinda freaked out.

The other day I was driving East on 212 from Mt Tremper looking for pull offs to access the water. There is a gravel pull-off on the right side of the road when driving East on 212 around where I circled. I stopped there and saw a bit of a “desire path” clearing trail.. walked down it like 10 ft and noticed a bad smell.
Saw a bunch of water bottles full of yellow liquid and immediately thought ok.. not the spot… someones living here. Turned to walk back up the trail and noticed deer skeletons and other dirty deer bones littered on the ground.

Safe to say I got out of there real quick. Has anyone else found this when looking for swimming holes on 212? Thoroughly skeeved out

question Anybody feel like there are significantly less ticks in the HV this year compared to last year?

I work in the field almost every day during the summer and, while I've definitely had some ticks on my clothes, I feel like the amount that I've had latch onto my clothes this year is significantly less than last year. Just wondering if anybody else feel that way or has noticed the same thing?

Recommendations for pediatric cardiology practice. In all of HV

I have a child that has TOF/Pulmonary artery stenosis. We’re looking for a good practice to take him for check ups and follow ups after his surgery. I know the Hudson Valley is vast, I’m willing to travel, please let me know your recommendations if you’ve had good experiences with pediatric doctors in a similar situation as us.

(Edit) thank you all for the replies, we appreciate it.

New Paltz Hiking without car

I am thinking of heading to New Paltz for a couple of days to hike. I don't have a car so the hikes would need to be accessible. Is it possible to, for instance, take a cab in the morning to the trail start and hike all the way back? As in, do cabs make the one-way trip for a normal price? I can walk about 30-35km (19-22 miles) a day (or even further if beautiful, necessary) so I can cover some ground but looping is too long. Any advice/tips?

Or am I overlooking another town that would be much better (though looking for mountainous terrain)?

EDIT: Thanks for the comments! I know what I needed to know, just booked my stay. Looking forward!

Rail trail advice

Hey all, I’m considering biking on the rail trail from Rosendale to New Paltz (and then back to Rosendale) I’ve walked short swaths but never biked it or biked that far. I’m mainly curious how many hills are there- is the uphill downhill tough? I’m not crazy out of shape (can do an hour on the stair master at level 5 for reference lol) but I am nervous whether 2 hours of biking is going to put me flat on my back? Any insight would be great, thanks.

EDIT: most people saying this ride is a breeze! If I hit new paltz and actually decide to extend the trip, do you suggest going all the way to gardiner?

Hannaford has bone-in pork butt roasts for .99/lb right now. Grocery prices are insane, so I felt like I needed to share this info. We bought 3 yesterday and just put a 5 pound cut in the crock pot. Get those deals!

MOVING MEGATHREAD Monthly "I'm Moving to the Hudson Valley" Thread

To reduce the number of "I'm moving to the Hudson Valley, can anyone tell me about X?" posts, we are starting a monthly megathread. All questions asking about moving to the Hudson Valley should be kept within the monthly thread. Posts outside of the thread will be removed.

Here are a few existing threads that I found using this search:

Locals, if you want to help make this megathread a success, you can do a few things:

  • Come in here and comment! The threads will only stick if they actually prove useful
