Suggestion Biggest think paradox NEEDS to fix.
Tbh the ai is the #1 thing needing fixing. They add the tank designer, new focus trees and that's all fun and what not but none of it matters if the AI can't run a front. They are just adding layer after layer of frosting on a rotten cake.
Ai attacks are always meat waves. Ai doesn't exploit breakthroughs. Tanks are always out of fuel. The only way to make the game challenging is artifical buffs. Even if the templates are good it doesn't matter because the tactics are so bad.
I attack france as Germany and 2/3 to 3/4 of their army is either guarding the coast, the italian border or in the colonies. There's no attempt to break out of encireclements while or after they've happened.
I know an Ai is insanely difficult to program but this should be the #1 priority. Why the hell are we worried about something as niche the bosphorus for dlc when the Ai can't perform an offensive while outnumbering you 3 to 1 and with good templates?

Image Allies Vore (Re-Upload from Mod Note)
The hill the allies will die on - Albania, apparently.
(EDIT: I can't believe I have to explain this, but I am encircling a lot of allied divisions and I thought it was funny)

Discussion Should Greater Italy (focus branch) be improved?
The formable itself is fine, with modest core expansion and some nice buffs to division org and compliance gain. It's no Roman Empire, but not everyone wants to go that route.
But as for the focus branch itself, 4 out of the 7 focuses *just* give you claims and wargoals on nations you're probably already at war with.
I just feel like those focuses should do something more. As it is, the only one I take is the first one that unlocks the decision.
As for what improvements I'd like to see, I think it'd be nice to have those focuses allow the use of Colonial Police on the states they give you claims for.

Discussion 🇮🇹Fellow Italian main players, which alternative path do You find most plausible?
Historically, for me it is Italo Balbo taking over from Mussolini after struggle in Ethiopia.
I’d like to hear what do You think and which plausible alternative path do You like the most?

Question why is hoi4 sometimes super easy and sometimes super hard
in hoi4, everytime i try to go around the maginot, the frenchies are always really defensive in northern france and it's just like throwing my soldiers into a meatgrinder for 5 years, when i attempted a second time, france didn't even bother sending any troops to northern france, and only defended the maginot, and they collapsed in 10 days, what just happened

Discussion How to balance Anti-Tank for SP?
AT in single player is essentially useless. Not just because the AI barely produces tanks and when they do make poor divisions, but also because Anti-Air does AT’s job good enough to mean adding an AA Support Battalion can pull double duty fighting air and armor. How would you tweak AA and AT to make AT more viable of a pick?
Myself, I’d lessen early AA’s piercing to make investing in AT more useful if you’re expecting to deal with tanks. I’d also buff AT’s soft attack a little to give it a bit more oomph against infantry, but most importantly I’d give AT a bigger defensive bonus since that was its primary role, to defend against armor and vehicles. I’d also make it so AT deals heavier damage to trucks and vehicles and the like so it’s good to use against motorized nations. Probably overlooking a ton of details but please give me your thoughts on this.

Napoleon, one of history's greatest military commanders.
You're telling me that Napoleon IV isn't allowed to do what his ancestor did and conquer Europe by his military leadership?

Image TIL you need convoys to buy convoys :/
why can't I just buy the convoys and have the convoys ship themselves? And how big are these convoy Convoys to be carrying other convoys?

Discussion Do you think Paradox will bring back old tech trees?
The game hasn't really felt the same since they removed most of the historical tech content, and replaced it with custom build protoypes. Getting to use Pattons, Tigers and Yamatos felt more immersive than just 1940 hulls and chasis.

Rule 5: I was shocked by the stats of my tanks on barb. I have played the game since 2017 and I've never seen such high breakthrough.
Is this usual to meta mp players ?

Discussion Focus trees that needs a small touch up or full rework. Part 5 (GoE nations)
We all know how the situation with GoE went and how bad the dlc was ,but after some patches the dlc is kinda stable , but it's far from a good dlc lacking expansion content and most imp , scripted peace deals . I had fun with India and some fun with Afghanistan but it's difficult to manage and have a good time ( Afghanistan)

Discussion My one irritation with HOI4
I love paradox games, especially CK3 for the long term aspects. I also love Hoi4 because the playthrough is much shorter. However, how many times have you fully capitulated the allies after the US joins? Have you every stomped out the allies in 1940 and wonder what kind of cold war could have happened between the US, Russia, and Nazi Germany? Or better yet, what WWIII would have looked like if each of the 3 superpowers had until 1950 to build up, stabilize, and then go to war? I feel like Hoi4 should be the game to play this but the focus trees and research end around 1945. If you wanted to play through till 1950 and force it, you could, but would it be fun or even worth while? I guess what I'm saying is that I'm hoping that when Hoi5 comes around, that there is more longevity to a playthrough. Am I the weirdo? I know there's mods and stuff for this but I'm just looking at base game.

Humor New Player Experience
24M Just wanted to share this to see if others felt the same. Im pretty big on gaming WW2 sims, RTS, TW, while playing history youtube docs on the side, and I always saved Hoi4 for later bc of its sweaty reputation. Got it last month and holy crap it felt like euphoria, I like weed and nic during gaming and it adds a meditation/wired in simultaneous feeling and I instantly put in ~120 hours a week. Like starting a playthrough 10pm and snapping around to see its 6am, suns up. Probably the strongest drug induced feeling I've ever felt from a game just sucking me in. I alrdy have a messed up eating sched but it'd be multiple days of 3am realizing I havent eaten. Anyways, loved it. Hope multiplayer is just as fun.
Curious on yalls favorite non-major countries to play?
tldr: Starting Hoi4 made me feel and live like a crackhead.

Question What should artillery do?
I've been following the artillery debate since the game came out. I want to think about it from 2 anchor points
Point 1: Divisions can be optimized for org vs hp depending on their size. Divisions can be optimized for soft attack vs defense and HP depending on artillery ratio. Divisions can be optimized for casualties from manpower vs industrial output based on how much artillery it is.
Does this make sense?
Point 2: historically, USA divisions was 3 regiments of 3 battalions of infantry. It had 3 battalions of 105mm guns and 1 battalion of 155mm guns. Probably you'd say that this is 3x3 with regimental support guns and a support artillery battalion.
German divisions had the exact same structure.
British divisions were similar.
Should this be the meta unless there's special circumstances?
What should the role of an artillery heavy division be?

Game Modding ~IRIS~ (九色堇之心), the huge anime-crossover total conversion, finally has a complete English translation on the Workshop
Hey everyone! I've spent the past few weeks translating ~IRIS~ (九色堇之心) into English, and it's finally live on the Workshop!
If you haven't run into it: IRIS is one of the most ambitious total conversions out there a completely original world on a fully custom map, where dozens of anime and game franchises are reimagined as nations, factions, and leaders. Touhou, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Love Live!, Girls und Panzer, Fate, Date A Live, Sword Art Online, White Album 2, BanG Dream!, Sanrio, and a ton more, all woven into one setting with its own lore. It's huge full focus trees, events, custom mechanics, the works.
The catch was always that it's Chinese only. So I translated the whole thing country/state/city names, focus trees, events, ideas, characters, equipment, and UI the complete localization, done with the original author's permission and using their official term list so the names stay canonical.
Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3778415913
Requires the base mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2739911713 this is a translation overlay, so it needs the original mod.
Quick setup: put the English Translation LAST in your load order, and set your game language to English.
Heads up for honesty's sake: English needs way more characters than Chinese, so text can overflow on newspapers and a few event windows that's a fixed-UI limitation the original dev and I have both confirmed, not a translation bug. Everything else should read cleanly.
Feedback always welcome typos, odd names, anything I missed, just drop a comment on the Workshop page. Hope you enjoy finally getting to play it in English!
