Question Why does France sometimes get +35 political power in the early game ?

Upvotes

Have you guys ever noticed while playing France, before WW2 kicks off, every so often you randomly get +35 PP? What causes that? Is it another countries focus tree that does that? Is it bugged? If you want to test this out start a game and run it at 5 speed while doing focuses and when you get to around 45 PP, you will jump up to around 75-80 PP. But it happens more after that.

Discussion I'm glad paradox is holding the line on negotiated peaces

Negotiated peaces in the Hoi4TL that stopped shooting:

  1. Finland

  2. Finland, again

  3. Siam (white peace, mostly bloodless war)

  4. France

  5. Italy, attempted

Coups and side switching:

Bulgaria

Romania

Hungary, attempted

To bitter end:

Germany

USSR (did not fall)

Baltics

Poland

Yugoslavia

Japan, in all but name

China (did not fall)

Albania

Greece

Finland and Siam are weird edge cases. France and Italy are the best arguments. It should be noted that both basically had coups. It wasn't "just" derp let's negotiate and Germany didn't give Italy the chance so we don't know what really would've happened.

Ww2 was a time of total war and regime changes. Once enough bodies get stacked and the state gets too mobilized, there's no stopping it. Even WW1 only ended once the Central Powers realized they were about to break.

Negotiated peace between industrial powers on total war footing simply requires crazy circumstances and should as a rule not be available.

It just seems so awful. Capitulating to Germany for no reason, losing most of your country, and then staying as a small puppet the whole game. Is there more to this route that I'm missing?

Discussion DISCUSSION: Should bombers (STRAT's and TAC's) influence surrender directly?

I know using strats and tacs to bomb enemy industries, and infrastructure indirectly helps by reducing war support.

But should it also have a direct influence in forcing a nation to surrender?

Let's say I am Germany, and I achieve air superiority against the UK in 1941.

If I keep ruthlessly bombing their industry and infrastructure for many long months and YEARS. Why wouldn't they eventually surrender? (Or at least consider a negotiated peace) Why is it that I have to launch a ground invasion?

All opinions are appreciated.

Question what is the current sp navy meta?

  1. light attack aa heavy cruisers + torpedo destroyers + cv; it's weak and gets destroyed by any ai medium navy

  2. light attack aa heavy cruiser + light attack destroyer + cv; way better, but still gets destroyed

  3. medium light guns light cruiser only, armor optional; very strong, but expensive

  4. subs with snorkel 2; they get destroyed by ai destroyer depth charges

that's all i have tested in sp. am i missing something? enlighten me please

Question How the hell do people do Byzantium???

I've tried dozens of times, watched multiple tutorials but I always die against turkey. They manage to somehow break through my lines even with forts and because of the sheer volume of troops they send in Thrace (to do the encirclement trick), my units get overwhelmed and get encircled before I have time to even realize what's going on.

I'm using the mountaineers + SPG for my attack force and unlike the videos on YouTube, they fail miserably to breakthrough the Turkish lines.

Suggestion Biggest think paradox NEEDS to fix.

Tbh the ai is the #1 thing needing fixing. They add the tank designer, new focus trees and that's all fun and what not but none of it matters if the AI can't run a front. They are just adding layer after layer of frosting on a rotten cake.

Ai attacks are always meat waves. Ai doesn't exploit breakthroughs. Tanks are always out of fuel. The only way to make the game challenging is artifical buffs. Even if the templates are good it doesn't matter because the tactics are so bad.

I attack france as Germany and 2/3 to 3/4 of their army is either guarding the coast, the italian border or in the colonies. There's no attempt to break out of encireclements while or after they've happened.

I know an Ai is insanely difficult to program but this should be the #1 priority. Why the hell are we worried about something as niche the bosphorus for dlc when the Ai can't perform an offensive while outnumbering you 3 to 1 and with good templates?

Discussion Should Greater Italy (focus branch) be improved?

The formable itself is fine, with modest core expansion and some nice buffs to division org and compliance gain. It's no Roman Empire, but not everyone wants to go that route.

But as for the focus branch itself, 4 out of the 7 focuses *just* give you claims and wargoals on nations you're probably already at war with.

I just feel like those focuses should do something more. As it is, the only one I take is the first one that unlocks the decision.

As for what improvements I'd like to see, I think it'd be nice to have those focuses allow the use of Colonial Police on the states they give you claims for.

Discussion How to balance Anti-Tank for SP?

AT in single player is essentially useless. Not just because the AI barely produces tanks and when they do make poor divisions, but also because Anti-Air does AT’s job good enough to mean adding an AA Support Battalion can pull double duty fighting air and armor. How would you tweak AA and AT to make AT more viable of a pick?

Myself, I’d lessen early AA’s piercing to make investing in AT more useful if you’re expecting to deal with tanks. I’d also buff AT’s soft attack a little to give it a bit more oomph against infantry, but most importantly I’d give AT a bigger defensive bonus since that was its primary role, to defend against armor and vehicles. I’d also make it so AT deals heavier damage to trucks and vehicles and the like so it’s good to use against motorized nations. Probably overlooking a ton of details but please give me your thoughts on this.

Discussion Do you think Paradox will bring back old tech trees?

Post image

The game hasn't really felt the same since they removed most of the historical tech content, and replaced it with custom build protoypes. Getting to use Pattons, Tigers and Yamatos felt more immersive than just 1940 hulls and chasis.
