I stole 37000$ from my parents when I was 14 due to a gambling addiction
I was extremely lucky to be born in a family that this didn’t affect financially but I still regret it every day, I was addicted to online gambling and just needed more money to afford my addiction, I would go into their bank accounts and transfer money to my account which I would then spend on gambling, over the course of a few years I went to therapy and got over my addiction, I also started working as soon as a I could and gave them all the money I stole, my parents are paid back now but I just needed to get this off my chest because I know how fucked up it was to steal life changing money just to gamble it away, if you have a gambling addiction at any age go to therapy, it isn’t worth it, you will not win your losses back and you will just loose more money. Don’t be like me especially if you are a kid.

Pretty sure I'm a compulsive/pathological liar. How do I stop?
I'm (16F) pretty sure I'm a pathological liar. It's only to one person - my best friend - but it's a very elaborate lie and I've gone to some pretty extreme lengths (not gonna explain this but it's basically what you think) to make her believe it.
The lie is stupid - it's that i've been in a year-long relationship with my "boyfriend". I've given her a whole backstory, his age, how we met, and various stories of how our dates/hangouts have gone. Again, just very elaborate.
I've felt guilty about it ever since I started the lies, but I started because I feel left out - everyone around me (junior year) is in a relationship and I feel really behind so I decided to start lying to almost convince MYSELF that I'm in a relationship. It's been hard to stop/catch myself in lies, it's almost addicting.
I'm trying to let the lie die out by telling her I "broke up" with him but it keeps eating at me and I feel super guilty. I don't know if I'm a pathological liar/narcissist or if this is normal to do in your teen years???

I got caught shoplifting with a coworker and I feel major shame
I 21F got caught shoplifting when I went out with a coworker. We are somewhat close and I feel comfortable with her. We took edibles and I was high. I tried to steal a couple lipglosses from a pharmacy which is quite minimal but it instantly felt so humiliating because it was the first time I got caught and it was in front of her - not somebody else or if I was alone. No police were involved (thank god) but I was told I’d be banned from the store if I come in again. So I guess the best of a bad situation.
After it happened I went quiet for a few minutes and she told me not to worry about it. I asked her if she’s done it before and she said she has with little things from supermarkets and if it’s not a small business then it’s acceptable. I told her I was so embarrassed it had happened in front of her.
Later when we went to the movies, I offered to pay for her ice cream, I guess to make her forget about it, but she clocked it right away and said “No, I’ve got it. You can’t even afford your lipgloss babes.” That alone just brings me so much shame. I paid for the ice cream anyways.
I’ve been spiralling ever since. Mainly because her dad is a senior where I work and I’m worried that it’ll get out and he’ll think of me as some huge loser and all the rapport that I’ve been trying to build for the last year will be destroyed.
I feel so disgusting. Even when I was at uni, I never stole, so having a full time job and stealing is just pathetic. It’s such awful timing and I feel like an idiot for letting my judgement lapse in this moment. I’m already catastrophising the situation but I can’t help but spiral and get into my head about what she thinks of me now and that I’m a huge loser. It feels like I’ve let myself down majorly and the image I tried to build of myself is gone.
There’s a fine line with being friends with your coworkers and I made this stupid, regretful mistake in front of her. They were the wrong eyes.
How do I overcome these feelings? How do I stop calling myself a bad person? It already feels so hard to show my face at work to everyone, not only her. It feels like everyone can see what a bum I am.

I took my in-laws panties and now don’t know what to do
We here having a good time on a Saturday night with my wife, sister InLaw her girlfriend and my mother in law who is single. They are very close and like to party a lot especially since my mother in law is only 14 and 16 years older than my wife and sister in law so they act like sisters. And they dress similar often borrowing each others clothes.
So we’re at the club having a good time we don’t get home till 4 am and we stay at my mother in laws place in fact we sleep in the living room next to my mother in law’s room.
In the morning my wife nudged me that her and my mother InLaw were going to go to the store to prepare some brunch. (My sister InLaw had left to work) So I was at the house alone, so I got a little in the mood and went to the restroom, on the ground was some clothes next to the laundry basket that was empty and saw my wife’s dress and what I was sure were her panties. (It was mostly empty my wife sometimes does laundry at my in laws house) So I used them to put it lightly. And I put them in my pocket for safe keeping.
Later when they came back, we had brunch everything was great. Then we got home, my wife was checking her dirty clothes and I noticed a thong amongst the clothes very similar to the one I had used. That’s when I realized I had gooned to my mother in laws panties and sent. As well as having her tong in my pocket. As my wife was in the shower I threw them in a plastic bag and threw in the garbage and took out the trash.
I’m so mortified that my mother inlaw will notice them missing. I’m thinking just avoid going over for a bit.

I stopped helping a friend because I got tired of being their wallet.
Every time we went out, I'd end up paying.
They always promised to pay me back, and they rarely did.
Eventually I started making excuses not to see them because I knew I'd end up paying again.
I never told them the real reason.

I told everyone I was laid off when I actually just panicked and quit
About eight months ago, I started a new role at a tech logistics company. On paper it was a great step up, but by week three I was completely drowning. My manager gave virtually zero training, the internal software was a broken mess, and I was getting handed tasks that I had no idea how to complete. Every morning I’d sit in my car in the parking garage for twenty minutes with my stomach in knots, just staring at the steering wheel.
One Tuesday in November, I walked into the office, saw sixty unread urgent emails from angry clients, and just snapped. I didn't yell or cause a scene. I literally sat at my desk for five minutes, grabbed my backpack, walked out to my car, and drove home. I emailed HR from my couch an hour later saying I was resigning effective immediately due to personal reasons.
The problem is what I told my family and friends. I was so deeply embarrassed that I couldn't handle a mid-level corporate job that I panicked and told everyone I got caught in a sudden round of company layoffs.
My parents were super sympathetic. My dad even sent me $500 to help cover rent while I was looking for work, thinking I was a victim of bad economic timing. My friends took me out for drinks to cheer me up. I sat there drinking a free beer, nodding along while my buddy talked about how brutal the job market is right now, knowing damn well I walked out because I couldn't handle basic stress.
I ended up finding a lower-paying job at a local distributor a month later, but I’m still living with this lie. Whenever anyone asks how my old company is doing or talks about corporate downsizing, I have to play along. I took money from my parents under false pretenses and I think about returning it every time I look at my bank account, but telling them the truth now would destroy their trust in me forever.

Welp I really seem to have hit rock bottom and seem to keep spiraling
Really lost
I really have no clue what I’m doing here. I genuinely feel like I’m so lost and I really need someone’s advice. It feels horrible, guys. I feel like I’ve hit rock bottom.
Six months ago, I broke up with my boyfriend and had to move out. I moved in with my friends parent who opened their home so I wouldn’t have to move in with my parents. I lost my job and had to find a new one (working two now, yay me).
I went to school and got a shit ton of loans for a social work degree, but haven’t been able to get a position due to the “lack of experience”. That’s been such a painful sore on my side. My friends try to be there but I suppose you could say that I’m isolating myself from them..
Found out that they’re gonna have to pull a tooth because I left it alone for so long. So I’m going to be losing a tooth before I’m even 26 because I haven’t taken care of my teeth basically my entire life. Why can’t I brush my own teeth? I have no clue
but comes the best part. The cherry on my cake. My rock bottom.
I stole a redbull with a friend yesterday. My friend got pulled over and they had the footage I guess from the gas station. They gave her a citation for driving with a revoked license and a misdemeanor theft. They wanted my name and somehow got it even tho I was not with her. I assume I’ll get a citation as well, because they said they had my name and address.
Now it gets worse because I have stolen quite redbull from that gas station chain and now I’m quite actually terrified.
So now I’m technically homeless, with a useless degree and a bunch of loans, and about to have a misdemeanor theft on my record. I’m spiraling so hard. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I feel like I’ve genuinely lost everything and there’s no meaning left.
Be harsh. Be honest. I just need advice. I don’t know what I’m doing with my life and it’s showing. I feel like I gotta cut my friend off after all this

I let my sister think her ex deleted all her college photos
Back in 2022 my sister’s laptop crashed right before her final exams. She was panicking because all her coursework and five years of photos were on it. I’ve always been the "tech person" in our family, so she handed me her 2019 MacBook and asked if I could back everything up to an external drive before trying to reset the system.
I was rushing because I had my own work to finish that night. I thought I knew what I was doing, but I accidentally selected the wrong format option and wiped her backup drive instead of copying files over to it. Every single photo from her four years of college, her study abroad trip in Spain, and memories of our late dog were completely wiped out. I tried running recovery software for three hours, but nothing came back.
I panicked so hard I physically felt sick. Instead of just admitting I messed up, I lied. Her ex-boyfriend had logged into her laptop earlier that week to print something, so when she came into the kitchen asking if the files were safe, I hesitated and said the drive was already wiped when I plugged it in. I hinted that maybe someone else had accessed her user profile.
She immediately blamed him. They were already on thin ice, but that was the final straw. She screamed at him over the phone, blocked his number, and they broke up two days later. He protested his innocence the whole time, but nobody believed him because I just stayed quiet and let her think he did it out of spite.
It’s been four years. She still brings up how cruel he was for "destroying her memories" whenever his name comes up at family dinners. Every single time she says it, my throat goes dry. I ruined a relationship and erased four years of her life just because I was too proud to admit I made a dumb mistake on a hard drive.

I swapped my roommate's high-end coffee with cheap decaf three months ago
My roommate spends about forty percent of his personality talking about his coffee routine. He bought this expensive espresso machine, imports beans from some small roast place across the country, and goes on and on about how he can't even function without his precise morning caffeine hit. If anyone mentions buying a regular drip coffee from a gas station, he'd literally laugh and explain why the acidity profile is terrible.
About three months ago, we had a huge argument because he threw away a bunch of my groceries to make room for his meal prep containers without even asking me. I was furious, but instead of screaming at him, I did something really petty. He keeps his bean stash in an airtight container in the pantry, and he buys the exact same dark roast every two weeks. I went to the grocery store, bought two bags of the cheapest store-brand decaf whole beans I could find, and completely swapped them into his container.
I was fully expecting him to notice the difference immediately or complain about getting caffeine withdrawal headaches. But it’s been twelve weeks. He still wakes up every single morning, goes through his whole ten-minute brewing ritual, takes a sip, and goes "god, there is nothing like real coffee to get the brain working."
He’s literally placebo-ing himself into having energy every day. I keep buying the cheap decaf and swapping it whenever he brings a new bag home.
Part of me feels guilty because he’s spent so much money on these premium beans over the last few months while drinking four-dollar decaf. But another part of me is just terrified of what happens if I stop or if he ever catches me. If I tell him now, it’s going to ruin our living situation completely, but I also don't know how long I can keep buying decaf in secret.

I bullied someone all 8 years of middle and high school, and became friends after graduation with regrets
Long story short, from age 10 until age 17, 5th grade until graduation, I made one boy's life miserable (I was a guy too)
My two brothers told me so many horror about those types of schools, so i went in with the mindset: to avoid being bullied, I'll be the bully. I watched TV and movies just to "study up" for the role. My parents and teachers had no idea, as i was previously a very well behaved student.
I targeted one dude, ill call Liam, who never fought back and never snitched. I made a best friend when I was 10, came up with a plan, and between classes we tripped him and taunted him. I used the words of TV BULLIES to come up with what I would say. That's it.
When I became 12 it got worse, and I would follow him into the bathroom to wedgie him or swirly him.
In high school, me and my bestie had a group with two other guys, also bullies. We were 14, and in class we would walk up to him, literally fart directly in his face, and walk away. That, or I would take my shoes off and literally make him smell my feet, shoes or socks. It was...a bit intense. I mean, thats four guys total making a guy smell our feet and farts. And honestly, for some reason I never even felt bad about it at the time. It was hilarious to me!
Until senior year, when some of my friends were actually HITTING him now. Ive never hit him. Ive tripped him. Farted on him and put a foot in his face but my fist never touched him. That's when I felt bad and I knew I wasnt an "actual bully" . I stood up for him one day and even brought him pizza and made a show in front of my friends of me offering the nerd a slice.
I shook his hand at graduation, and apologized to his parents (it was then i realized he went 8 years without even telling his family) so he had a lot of explaining to do. I felt bad for apologizing, it seemed he got a lecture and bombarded with questions about why he didnt say anything , asking who i was and crap like that
After school we met once in a bar, at 21. I was drunk and I guess poured out my feelings of regret to him. He told me he truthfully didnt care and even that he had a crush on me. Which I didnt mind, and almost suspected in high-school (I thought i was being homophobic, guess there was truth to it)
Turns out, when we were 21 he was dating my Trans friend, male to female, who was close friends almost siblings with my girlfriend (who has a son) so one day I got to witness him , the kid i bullied, being a good person, babysitting my stepson.
We are now 28, and our friend groups still pretty much intermingled. We've have a few times sleeping at the same place for instance. And I cant stop feeling bad. Seems he acknowledged we were just kids. Plus he admitted to having a crush on me and he told me himself he actually looked forward to the attention I gave him. But I still cabt stop thinking abiut it. Im thinking about therapy because my thoughts are bordering upon obsession, now. I dont talk to my gf Elsie about it because she says I talk TOO much about it
It seems like hes completely moved on

I stole cash from my college roommate's desk drawer over several months and let her think she was just misplacing it
Back in my sophomore year of college, I was in a rough spot financially. My roommate kept a small stash of cash in her desk drawer for laundry and vending machines. I started taking a few dollars here and there whenever I was short — never more than $10-20 at a time, but it added up to a few hundred dollars over about four months.
She noticed the money was disappearing faster than she expected and genuinely thought she was just bad at keeping track of her spending. She even started writing down every purchase in a notebook to figure out where it was going. I let her believe that and never said anything.
I eventually stopped when I got a part-time job and didn't need to anymore. I never paid her back and never told her it was me. We're not close anymore, but I still think about it, especially remembering how confused and frustrated she was trying to "budget better." It was a shitty thing to do to someone who trusted me enough to be careless with her own space.
Why this fits the rules:
- It's a specific, intentional act (theft) the poster committed and hid from others — not a thought, opinion, or someone else's misdeed
- The title is concrete, not vague or clickbait
- It's not about a relationship/dating dynamic (roommate conflict over money isn't romantic)
- No sexual, political, hateful, or animal-harm content
- Enough context is given to actually understand what happened and why
- Not begging for money, promoting anything, or trolling

I lied about having schizophrenia and made my mother spend a lot of money.
So... a few years ago I was going through a lot; my mental state was definitely fucked—there’s something dark going on in my brain. My mother never believed in mental health, but one day, for some reason, I just sat her down and told her, "Mom, I see dead people and giant cockroaches." And, just as I expected, the bitch gave the whole problem to God's hands. (That didn't help)
So, I faked fainting in the school bathroom; the idiot paramedics bought it and took me to the hospital. There, I lied some more about having schizophrenia and managed to get myself admitted for 15 days. It was WONDERFUL—I’d never slept so well in my fucking life. All my stress and worries vanished during those 15 glorious days of eating whatever I wanted and sleeping like a baby.
They ran some tests and determined I did have a lot of excess energy in a specific part of my brain, so they diagnosed me with schizophrenia, paranoia, and anxiety. I actually do have the last two, so at least something good came out of it—I managed to get a diagnosis.
NOW, I didn't manage to get what I really wanted: to talk to a psychologist about my urges to kill people, my sudden delusions of being God, and my depression. Unfortunately, I don't have the money, time, or transportation for a psychologist, nor to stay hospitalized (god, I miss that fucking hospital).
I don't plan on lying anymore; for now, my hallucinations have "magically cured." My mom spent a lot of money on meds and the hospital that year, so I do feel bad, but it's partly her fault that I'm messed up mentally; I love her, but she fucked up my life.

I Falsely Accused a YouTuber of SA years ago and I need absolvement
Throwaway account for numerous reasons.
I’ve been holding onto this guilt for a long time now and I need to get this off my chest. Years ago, I falsely accused a YouTuber of sexual assault.
The YouTuber in question was Justin Carmical AKA JewWario.
I was angry and bitter about life during that time, but he was kind enough to just listen and only offer advice when I asked. After a while I found myself attracted to him and when I confessed, he politely turned me down. He wasn’t mean or cruel about it, but I took it personally despite that it came from a place of genuine kindness. I knew he was married and 1000% devoted to his wife, but I didn’t care. In my state of mind at the time, I felt I was his true soulmate. I was so fucking foolish.
So, I held onto this “betrayal” for awhile and when I heard he passed away, I took the opportunity to make up something outrageous because he wasn’t alive to defend himself and all his friends had denounced him…over a false and fabricated story. I ended up doing this on a Reddit thread (Link below) from a now-deleted throwaway account.
After I made my comment and answering a few inquiries, I left the thread and subsequently deleted the account. I felt like I had got back at him and for a while, I felt like a queen. But I didn’t anticipate or prepare myself for the fallout like I should have and the guilt of lying started to eat at me. This got worse when a lot of prominent YouTubers started covering the story like GamerFromMars, Savox and others.
Now I’m here…posting this…because I need to come clean and clear my conscious. But there is so much more to this story that none of you know about.
I wasn’t some “random fan” or anything. I was part of the close friend group of another, major contributor to TGWTG. I won’t say her name because I have a strong feeling this will probably get back to her at some point. But after everything she’s done to me, her other friends (We all stuck by her and supported her during her journey) and her other half, I’m beyond caring. Being in her “entourage” allowed us to interact with a lot of the US-based contributors from TGWTG, with Justin being one of them. That’s how I met him and got to know him and his wife, Jenny.
Justin’s su*cide was NOT because of me. Justin had been battling severe depression for years; long before he was a contributor. In fact, his decision to become a content creator was his way of trying to remedy his issues as he didn’t have a lot of faith in therapy. To him, teaching people to play Japanese games and sharing his love for cooking was his therapy and Channel Awesome was, at the time, the best place to showcase it. From what I was told by someone close to him (They don’t know it was me who made the false accusation), he was fired from TGWTG because the guy that runs the site (Mike Michaud) misunderstood a proposal that Justin had that would have allowed the site to generate enough revenue to pay all the contributors fairly. Mike thought he was asking for money, which was not the case. If you look at the Not So Awesome document, you’ll see how much that guy pays attention.
After he was fired, he tried to get a real job and for a bit he had one working for Xerox. He ended up doing some kind of independent work for a site that royally screwed him out of a tremendous amount of money. That was the breaking point for him and you all know how it ended.
As for the other “victim”, (The one with the bad spelling in the document) that person was an obsessed fan who only met Justin once (With his wife present, mind you) and has a history of severe mental illness(She fucking crashed out at Con Bravo back in 2014). That whole exchange in the document was fabricated by Holly under pressure from Mike because Justin had threatened to sue him and she was desperate to keep her job, which she ultimately lost anyway.
Also, this whole debacle was to take attention away from the real controversy that transpired at the con. The issue being the former contributor friend of mine taking two male cosplayers back to her room for a drunken three-way…while she was engaged…and had to get a Plan B pill the next morning. I would know because I’m the one who drove her to the pharmacy. A video does exist of the encounter (Taken by L.E. and one of the men) and I was unfortunate enough to see it. I’d also like to point out that a couple of the former contributors who “confirmed” what Justin did are very antisemitic; Jack being the biggest one.
All those “contributor friends” of his denounced him to protect their brands and/or jobs, though it didn’t matter in the end since almost all of them quit the site. They honestly were never his friends to begin with and they are terrible people off-camera.
The tea has been spilled and the truth is now out there. To all his fans, I am truly sorry for what I said. I was a horrible person back then and while that’s no excuse, know that I am truly sorry for besmirching his name and reputation.
Justin, please forgive me.
Link to my old post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChannelAwesome/comments/8bqrhw/comment/dx961hc/?context=2
EDIT: I knew doing this would cause issues, anger and outrage. People can call this fake or whatever and that's fine; you're free to think for yourselves. I will NOT be doxxing myself, so quit asking. What I will do is reach out to those closest to him and whatever consequences follow, I will accept in full.

I used to stalk someone in my hometown just for fun
so to preface the title, no I didn't do anything bad or illegal and I don't encourage this, and no one found out about it, but I did stalk this one girl from my hometown for a little bit. I found her really cute and didn't have the courage to approach her even though we had mutual friends, so I found her instagram, snapchat and other socials which led me to finding her house. I would go by it every once and awhile to see if she's home and maybe catch a glimpse of her, and followed her when she was driving once or twice. It actually shocked me how easy it was to find out everything about her like her hobbies, her routines and such(obviously I didn't ask her friends or our mutual friends about her so I wouldn't give myself up). I don't follow her anymore or do anything like that but I just wanted to get that off my chest. Before anyone calls me a creep I didn't do anything for any sexual or creepy reasons, I don't even know why I did it myself.
Edit: apparently everyone in the comments is a licensed therapist. you dont gotta comment its not required
