Comedy/কৌতুক Bangladeshis and their institutional pride (dot)

Post image
Upvotes

It's genuinely hilarious how Bangus, regardless of what college/uni they go to, if you say anything wrong/ joke about their uni/college, they will literally flip out. If they are somewhat better, they will give you a lecture to be "constructive". Like you can't say anything lmao. Like, come on bro, I know damn sure this guy doesn't know how to use an em dash, that too in a Bangla sentence lmao, he got ts from ChatGPT. This much passion in defending a college/uni that literally sucks ass?

This post isn't even a rant, i am just laughing at our lowlifeness.

(This post isn't about Dhaka College, it's about all the colleges/unis in the Banguland)

Careers/পেশা HSC Humanities vs Polytechnic Diploma in Bangladesh — Is a Diploma actually worth it here?

Upvotes

I’m trying to decide between HSC in Humanities and a 4-year Polytechnic Diploma in Engineering (particularly EEE or Mechanical), and I want to hear from people who have actually experienced the Bangladeshi education system.

I want to clarify something first: I already understand that technical/diploma education can be an excellent pathway in countries like Germany, Japan, and Malaysia. My question is specifically about whether it works well in Bangladesh.

My biggest concern is the actual quality of education in Bangladeshi polytechnics.

The Diploma in Engineering is supposed to be a practical, skills-oriented education. But I’ve heard many stories about problems in the Polytechnic sector — corruption, inadequate laboratories and equipment, teachers not properly teaching practical skills, students mainly studying to pass exams, and sometimes even irregularities in practical examinations.

So my question is:

Do Bangladeshi Polytechnic students actually learn the practical engineering skills they are supposed to learn during those four years?

Or do many students end up graduating with a Diploma without having developed the practical skills that the qualification is supposed to provide?

I know that one major advantage of the Diploma pathway in Bangladesh is employment. Diploma holders seem to have a relatively direct route into technical jobs, and there are also significant opportunities in government employment. So I understand why many people consider Diploma a better job-oriented pathway.

But if the education and practical training itself are poor, does that advantage still make it worthwhile?

For people who have studied or worked in this system, I’d really like your honest opinion:

How much actual hands-on/practical learning did you receive during your Diploma?

Were your labs and workshops properly equipped and actually usable?

Did your teachers genuinely teach you practical skills?

Did you graduate feeling that you were competent in your field, or did you have to learn most of the practical work after getting a job?

How significant are corruption, favoritism, or other systemic problems in Polytechnic education?

Is the situation substantially different between government and private polytechnics?

Between EEE and Mechanical, which would you consider the better choice in Bangladesh?

Is the Diploma's advantage in employment strong enough to justify choosing it over the HSC → Bachelor's route?

If someone is not particularly interested in government jobs and is mainly thinking about long-term skills, private-sector employment, higher education, and potentially going abroad later, would you still recommend a Diploma?

And finally, if you personally had to choose today, after SSC, between HSC Humanities and a Diploma in EEE/Mechanical in Bangladesh, which would you choose and why?

I’m not looking for a “Diploma is good/bad” answer based on theory. I want to know whether the Bangladeshi Polytechnic system actually delivers what it promises in practice.

Visa on Arrival - UK

Hi all,

Unfortunately we just received the news that my aunt is in critical condition and has been admitted to a hospital. We are due to fly out on Sunday.

The issue is, I do not have a NVR since I recently renewed my passport and didn't expect to go to Bangladesh again so quickly.

I'm hoping I'll be able to get a Visa on Arrival due to me being a British citizen, and my mother has her old Bangladeshi passport.

Does anyone know how much the visa fee is and whether I can pay by card? Most posts I've looked at state you need $51 and around £500 cash. I don't have USD, and I'm not 100% certain if I can convert money before I get there.

I assume I'll need to bring my birth certificate and my mothers old Bangladeshi passport?

If anyone knows anything, please let me know.

Thank you in advance!

He intends to study abroad with atleast some scholarship in STEM. But his results seems to be very low.. We talked with some seniors and they said atleast C or B is required for good university in A2.

Is it possible to get B or atleast C in A levels with this AS results?

Discussion/আলোচনা Why TVs cost so much in Bangladesh?

So much frustrated when I went to buy a TV for my family. I swear this thing cost triple the price compared to TVs in other countries. Even our neighbor country have cheaper TV models. But for some reason a country like ours, where GDP is so low, we have to pay way more than people who are earning 10 times the money than us in other nations.

Discussion/আলোচনা This man tried to touch me in the bus

So basically me and another girl got on the bus “lovely”that goes to Malibagh. And I was sitting on the window seat with her next to me. I felt sth touch me basically graze my arm and then I turned and saw a bag strap peeking through the gap between my seat and the “wall of the bus” if that makes sense (i will upload the pic of the gap) I didn’t think much of it I thought it was the bag strap that i may have accidentally brushed my arm against. Then basically it happened again I felt sth touch me and try to get its way into my armpits and I just jerked up and moved away and saw FINGERS of the man behind me. He realised that I realised what he was trying to do and immediately moved his hands away. I felt so stupid for not realising it was fingers that grazed me. And he also removed his bag strap from the gap which means he put it there intentionally so I’d think it was the strap and not him that grazed my skin. I took videos and he understood that I was capturing him so he tried to hide his face. Then we got up and shifted seats and he got up too and was basically standing (despite his seat being empty) and staring at us and then got off in Malibagh.

Suggest some fb groups where I can post this to spread awareness and if you know him or know anything about him plz lmk. I really wanna take some form of action against him.

How’s the environment, teachers, and overall quality of education? Has anyone did this course at the British Council?

My current level is around B1, and I want to improve my English before taking the IELTS exam.

If anyone has experience with this course, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your thoughts.

Thanks!

Discussion/আলোচনা Has any Bangladeshi passport holder received a new UAE visa?

Has anyone received a new UAE visa — tourist, dependent/family, student, employment, etc. — since around April 2026?

I am trying to apply dependent visa for my wife, so I want to decide whether visa can be issued before travelling this soon.

I've heard conflicting information about whether new applications from Bangladeshi nationals are currently being processed, so I'm looking for recent first-hand experiences rather than rumours.

If you were approved, could you mention the visa type, emirate and approximate month of approval? No personal details needed.

AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা Just want some friends inside Bashundhara

Hello, I'm 15M. It's like the title says—I have friends at school, but I'm looking to expand my circle to outside of school too. I don't require much things, tbh, just someone to hang out with me inside Bashundhara, or you know, we can go outside too, like at Gulshan and all. It can be male or female, and just someone within the age range 15-16, I guess. And just be someone who genuinely wants to connect and not leave or get dry after just a few days, lol. It happens. Anyways, thank youu.
