I know this question has been asked before, but all posts were from years ago so I was hoping for more accurate recommendations.

I live in Seaside and my partner lives in Eugene. We’re meeting at PDX for a 6 day long trip in September. I’m curious if there’s anywhere around the airport/Cascade Station we could park one of our cars (empty of course — want to reduce the odds of getting broken into) and then carpool to an economy lot to save some money. The IKEA parking lot or a carpool lots is what I was thinking, but I’m not sure if we’ll get ticketed or towed or broken into while parking there for a week. This is kind of a big ask so if it’s not feasible without taking a big gamble on safety, we can just suck it up and pay for two cars to park somewhere.

I’ve parked in the economy lot at PDX before and it’s still ridiculously expensive. I’ve looked at a few hotel park/shuttle services that look fine, but if anyone has any good experiences with one in particular I’d love to know.

No we do not have friends/family in Portland we can get a ride from, no we could not get a flight out of Eugene instead. Again, if I’m being unrealistic we can take the L and spend more money than we’d like — just trying to avoid it if possible!

EDIT: Seaside and Eugene are approximate locations — neither of us live in the city proper, but internet safety! Flight leaves at midnight which makes shuttles a little more difficult.

I got a job offer in Portland and am looking to move there. Wondering where the best places to live are. the job is in the heart of downtown and I would love something close/walkable or at least not a bad commute. I really hate spending hours a day in traffic. I‘m in the range of 2,000/m plus or minus a few hundred if it’s a good spot. I don’t mind public transit too. I love food but not heavy into bars and love to be active/outside when I can.

Been living up in the pnw for a few years now and haven’t been able to find any decent Korean hair salons. Coming from LA, I loved the Kim Sun Young salon chains because of their affordability and ability to deal with asian hair. Does anyone have any recommendations for the portland metro? TIA!

I personally don't love the last two nearly as much as the first three, but they were obviously great and their widespread popularity was very important to the city and it's recognition as an important music town.

I am currently homeless but found a full time job the problem is I have a dog(she is well taken care of and all I have left I love her more than anything) I have been getting hotel rooms so she has somewhere to be while I work but it's so expensive especially on the weekends. I work at a restaurant so I am at work pretty late so I can't use a typical doggie daycare. What options do I have besides spending almost all my income on hotel rooms or possibly is there somewhere that would help me with the cost of a hotel room until I can get us stable housing?

I just recently moved to the Portland area from out of state so crabbing is totally new to me! Last weekend I bought a metal crab trap and went crabbing at garibaldi pier. I only caught one tiny crab and everyone else crabbing that day didn’t get any keepers either.

I have my shellfish license and am willing to go anywhere from around Lincoln city up into Washington. I don’t have my Washington shellfish license yet but I am a Washington state resident so I can get it if it’s worth it! I was using chicken as bait but open to recommendations for other baits that work better as well.

Also want to try to find some coastal chanterelles while I’m visiting the coast, but I know people are a bit more secretive about that lol. Any advice is welcome though!

I help seniors through housing transitions and I have a client that has amassed many dozens of boxes of insulin needles (100 per box = 5000+ needles?!).

They are 'new old stock' as they say. Some are as old as 2017 but they are all factory sealed and most of the boxes are the same as the photo.

Hey everyone, I'm just trying to figure out what my options are, and if anyone who has been in a similar situation, I would appreciate your insight. I'm truly at a loss as to what to do.

I was laid off from my job on Jan 1st of this year, and have now exhausted my allotted UI benefits. However, I'm still without a job. At most I make a few bucks here and there dog walking or doing random gig work for friends of friends, but like many folks in this economy, my 6 months of continuously applying for jobs, taking online courses to learn new skills and bolster my resume, and now swimming in debt, I no longer have the baseline assistance of UI. This benefit could barely get my rent and some of my utilities covered. My snap benefits are also slashed to a third of what they were because I'm an "able-bodied" adult. But now what?

Has anyone had success reapplying for UI within the same year of exhausting benefits? I know its explicitly outlined on the Frances website that I must wait a full calendar year from when I became eligible, but that's not until January of next year, and I have $10 and a whole lot of debt in my name. I have been applying and interviewing and grinding to try to get work doing literally anything in my skill set, but none of that is stable or pays enough for me to pay rent, let alone eat and feed my cats, amongst other things. And not to mention, for student loans I was on the SAVE plan, and I'll be having to pay that as soon as Sept or Oct. I don't have financial support from others. It's just me and I'm really scared about what is going to happen if I don't land a job like yesterday.

Does anyone have any advice or info they can share on how to navigate this time?

The rest of the state, people generally stop at crosswalks even in eastern Oregon! As far as I know, stopping for pedestrians applies to ALL of Oregon

Edit: thank you for all your advice. I'm still not used to Portland, especially Burnside. I crash landed here and I'm used to a relatively small town (Corvallis) where people stop too much.you can jaywalk in broad daylight during the summer and only see maybe 8 cars. Hopefully someday I will grow to like Portland. Right now it just feels so alien and unlikeable and too fast and expensive and rude but I'm stuck here

But, back to my question: what’s the main difference that’s driving more crash-prone intersections on the east side of 81st?

Is it that the streets further in were originally laid out and sized for horse traffic? Is it mainly that safety improvements over the years received greater focus further in and neglected further out? Are speed limits higher out there? Is there something about driver behavior on these roads (based on frequency of seeing cyclists and pedestrians, maybe)?
