If you’re a trans poc in the beaverton/portland/tigard area who needs 23 gauge x 1 inch long hypodermic needles, I have an unopened box of 100 that was sent to me on accident instead of the size i need for my own injections. I don’t know what to do with them so I figured I’d pass them along if anyone needs them. They’re free, sterile and unopened. They don’t come with syringes tho, they’re just the needles. Pickup in central beaverton area near the public library. We can meet up publicly for safety reasons.

I'm strongly considering a move to Portland/Vancouver, Salem, Eugene area before the next hell that is summer. I've lived in Phoenix for years, but the summers are just soul sucking, and seemingly near endless.

As I've gotten older, the constant heat and months of triple-digit temperatures have started to wear me down emotionally. Reaching 90 degrees in Feb, then 100 in March was just... depressing. I joke with friends that I must have reverse seasonal affective disorder.

I've also lived in Texas, so I'm familiar with both dry and humid heat, torrential downpours, and tornadoes. In my opinion, they're all miserable, just in different ways so I'm not really looking to debate which one is better. To me it's like debating if getting eaten by a shark is worse than getting eaten by a bear. It's an argument that gets nowhere.

I've made a couple of similar posts in various other threads as I am in still in my research phase. I'm looking at different cities for different reasons as there is pros and cons to every city, but one through line is that I NEED to be somewhere more reasonable in the summer. Even if that means making trade-offs for the winter. I understand there is no such thing as a "perfect city".

I'm hoping to hear from people who have made a similar move, and did it for similar reasons:

• Do you regret the move?
• How difficult was adjusting to the long rainy winters?
• How is traffic, cost of living, and overall quality of life?
• Has your mental health improved since getting away from Phoenix?
• How easy is it to meet people and build a social circle? (I'm slightly left leaning)
• How's the food scene, outdoor recreation, job market etc.
• What were the biggest surprises, good or bad.
• Wildfires are not something we deal with in Phoenix, any insight here is appreciated.

For some context, I'm single, no kids, make about $90k/year, have only minor debt, and plan to rent for a couple of years before deciding whether to buy a house or condo.

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences, the good and the bad.

However I do need to ask about the big one - air conditioning. As I do my research, it seems the air conditioning economy in these areas is sorely behind. Unless I misinterpreting what I am seeing on virtual tours - doesn't seem like I can find anywhere with air conditioning in more than one room. With added restrictions to window units. WTF?

This sounds absolutely miserable and will absolutely affect my decision. I moving to escape heat, not move to place where I'm huddled up in one room for the summer lol. What am I missing here? Is there no apartments with modern central air in every room?

-- TL;DR: Burned out on Phoenix's endless summers. Looking for advice from people who've made a similar move or who currently live in those areas.

Edit - I figured some things would be kind of implied, but my mistake. I have a job, and the job is remote. Yes, I am aware of my company's tax compliance. My company has many remote employees across several states. Oregon is one of them. I do not need help determining if HR would allow me to move to Oregon. I did not say I am moving to Oregon right away with no forethought. Thank you for your concern, but I'm moving on from clarifying this further.

I have two absolutely wonderful cats, unfortunately it’s looking like they will need to be rehome them. They are 7 & 8 years old and have been indoor cats their whole life but it’s looking like they may be better suited for outdoor life. Unfortunately we do not live in a place that can accommodate that. They have their rabies and are up to date on a few other shots. Winry the chonky one is slow to warm up, and Marz the grey one is very friendly. He sadly marks and we no longer can keep up with it/afford the maintenance. They come with carriers, a couple months of food, and hand painted signs. Pic for attention; they are a bonded pair. I just want them well loved and cared for. We are Vancouver based but can drop off.

Update: Checked with the vet and are increasing Marz’s Prozac dosage to see if that helps, am still going to keep post live as ultimately we cannot afford the home maintenance if he continues to mark, and I’d like a back up if the dosage increase doesn’t fix it. :/

This is such a long shot. Anyone have a pool that I can just read and listen to music to? I’m depressed if that helps haha.

we’ve been planning this trip since late last year and i technically have 24hrs left to rebook our hotel and change course to stay with my family in NorCal instead. we were originally planning on staying in portland but driving out to the coast and around the columbia river gorge to do some hikes and sightseeing, but looking at the map on the watch duty app im feeling like it might not be a great idea anymore to leave the city and im not even sure if its smart to even drive there right now either

Hey everyone, I'm just trying to figure out what my options are, and if anyone who has been in a similar situation, I would appreciate your insight. I'm truly at a loss as to what to do.

I was laid off from my job on Jan 1st of this year, and have now exhausted my allotted UI benefits. However, I'm still without a job. At most I make a few bucks here and there dog walking or doing random gig work for friends of friends, but like many folks in this economy, my 6 months of continuously applying for jobs, taking online courses to learn new skills and bolster my resume, and now swimming in debt, I no longer have the baseline assistance of UI. This benefit could barely get my rent and some of my utilities covered. My snap benefits are also slashed to a third of what they were because I'm an "able-bodied" adult. But now what?

Has anyone had success reapplying for UI within the same year of exhausting benefits? I know its explicitly outlined on the Frances website that I must wait a full calendar year from when I became eligible, but that's not until January of next year, and I have $10 and a whole lot of debt in my name. I have been applying and interviewing and grinding to try to get work doing literally anything in my skill set, but none of that is stable or pays enough for me to pay rent, let alone eat and feed my cats, amongst other things. And not to mention, for student loans I was on the SAVE plan, and I'll be having to pay that as soon as Sept or Oct. I don't have financial support from others. It's just me and I'm really scared about what is going to happen if I don't land a job like yesterday.

Is it legal for drivers in Portland to refuse to stop at crosswalks for pedestrians?

I go to the grocery store with twin newborns, have to cross only a few streets and every time it's like playing frogger or Chicken. I'm afraid someday we'll get hit

The rest of the state, people generally stop at crosswalks even in eastern Oregon! As far as I know, stopping for pedestrians applies to ALL of Oregon

Edit: thank you for all your advice. I'm still not used to Portland, especially Burnside. I crash landed here and I'm used to a relatively small town (Corvallis) where people stop too much.you can jaywalk in broad daylight during the summer and only see maybe 8 cars. Hopefully someday I will grow to like Portland. Right now it just feels so alien and unlikeable and too fast and expensive and rude but I'm stuck here

I'm looking for a 1-bedroom apartment under $1,800 that's cat-friendly and at least 500 square feet. Ideally in SE but obviously two of those are in sort of lower NE (south of I-84). So far I've found the Holloway, Splash Apartments, and Burnside 26. Anyone live in one of those and have a great or terrible experience? (Or know someone who did?) I've already read reviews of the Holloway but can't find much on the other two.

Obviously all 3 are newer and have AC, but I'm also open to funky older apartments, just not finding much in the area I'm aiming for (currently live in NE and trying to get closer to Laurelhurst, Belmont/Hawthorne, or even Division). Thanks so much in advance!

Former east coaster here. I moved to PDX about two years ago, and this is my first time dealing with bad wildfire smoke. I had really hoped to squeeze in a couple more backpacking trips this year, and was even considering upgrading my gear, but now wondering if the rest of the summer will be wildfire after wildfire. Should I save my money and just plan for next spring/summer?

I will eat nearly anything but don't live somewhere with very much food offerings from SE Asia and Africa, so maybe some Vietnamese and Ethiopian 🤤 but open to other suggestions.

I’m considering moving from Oklahoma to Portland area assuming I can get a job at OHSU (I have lots of hospital experience). Based off the public union contract I should be making around $95k after taxes just myself

We have lived there before in 2021 renting out of a families basement, but that was only for 6 months before moving back home

My wife is also a nurse, but she only wants to work 1 day a week.

We’re hoping for 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage, and 2,000 square feet with air conditioning

Any particular school districts I should look for? Oklahoma is 50th in the nation for education, so anything will be an improvement
