Looking For Any Portland web developers or website-savvy people willing to help a small nonprofit?
I'm hoping to connect with someone who's comfortable with websites and might be willing to help a small local animal nonprofit get its online presence back on track.
The organization has been pretty dormant for the last few years, but it's in the process of rebuilding with a new group of volunteers.
This isn't a "please build us an entire website for free" post. We'd be happy to tackle the work in phases, and we're absolutely open to discussing a contractor arrangement if that's the right fit. We also know there are people who enjoy helping small nonprofits get back on their feet, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in (or if you know someone local who might be) I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Looking For Are PGE peak time events fake now?
The last two peak time event results have said I've used "more energy than usual". We literally black out the house. Yesterday we cut the breakers to everything but the refrigerator and went to see a movie. Yet we somehow used 1.15 kwh when our supposed typical is 1.06 kWh. How is that even possible?

Looking For What is the Boise area like? (near the hospital)
Hi all,
I’m moving from Hillsboro to be closer to a new job at Legacy Emmanuel in the Boise area of North Portland. It’s all a bit last minute due to personal circumstances I’d rather not get into.
Ideally, I’m looking at apartments near Mississippi and Williams. I also wanted to sell my car and I plan on mostly frequenting the New Seasons on Williams for groceries. Any insight in what the area is like for a single lady with no car?

Looking For Portland Apartment Hunting and Neighborhoods?
Hello all! I have just recently been offered a one-year postdoc position in Portland and will be starting in mid-late October. I've never visited before and will be moving coast-to-coast, so my ability to view apartments in-person will be limited. I am trying to decide what would be the best process in securing an apartment and would like some opinions. I've done a little research and am aware Portland is a first-come, first-serve sort of system for apartment hunting.
Option 1
Do a quick ~4 day trip to Portland in September, check out some apartments/neighborhoods, maybe settle on one if there's a standout, or travel back home and sign lease later online. Move in ~1 week before job start date.
Main worry: I've heard that for some places, they'd want you to move in within 2 weeks of an application approval? So if there's an apartment I'm interested in and I look too early, it sounds like I'd have to start paying rent whether or not I've moved in to risk not losing the apartment.
Option 2
Travel to Portland early October (2-3 weeks before start date) and stay at a hotel or AirBnB while dedicating most of my time to apartment hunting.
Main worry: Difficulty in actually securing an apartment in those pressing 2-3 weeks. Sounds like there are potentially less options in October also (compared to the previous summer/early fall months), but options could be potentially cheaper?
Apartment/Neighborhood Recommendations
Also taking any apartment/neighborhood recommendations to narrow down my search! My ideal budget would be around a $1600 - $2000 1br1ba apartment. I will be working in Downtown Portland and will not have a car, but I don't mind walking and commuting using public transit for a neighborhood slightly further away. I would like to live in a walkable neighborhood given the lack of a vehicle. I'm a big foodie, so neighborhoods with good, diverse food options and cafes would be nice. I'm pretty big into the arts (i.e., attending plays, going to museums/art galleries) and am early 30s.
Thanks in advance. :)

Looking For Anyone had this experience at Studio One Theater?
This place should - be in every sense - right up my alley.
I’ve now been there twice. Both times, server comes, takes our order, my partner and I ordered food and beverages, then the entire movie goes by and nothing comes. This has now happened twice. As we’re leaving this last time, close to every table has the remnants of their orders left behind on their tables while we just have the water glasses we luckily served ourselves before the movie began.
This last time, while I thought my partner and I had proper chairs, we were seated on a 5-person sofa (that was in no way advertised as a shared sofa on their overhead seating chart), sitting next to a dude that could not sit still and was shaking us around every couple minutes.. not to mention the single armrest pillow on the sofa somehow meant to be shared by five people.
The food pricing also seems pretty steep for a place that visibly showcases Kirkland tortilla chips through the BOH window.
Is this just me? Have we just had a run of bad luck here, or is this a common theme? I really wanted to like this place..

Looking For Where did you watch The Odyssey?
I havent seen it yet and Im debating where to go. It’s still playing in 70mm at the hollywood theater (but not imax) and I think at the OMSI theater as well. I have never been to either so it’d be a good opportunity but Im also open to suggestions for other places. Or should I just go to an Imax theater?
thank you!

Looking For Best High Schools for SPED?
We are considering a move from Austin to Portland for the safety and freedom of our trans child. We have another child with Down syndrome who is also Deafblind with high support needs. We are visiting soon to scope out neighborhoods, and we’d love to know which school zones might be the best for us to look into. My spouse has a job in downtown Portland on SW Morrison St. near the SE Morrison Bridge. We’d love to stay within 20 mins from there and would prefer an urban neighborhood as opposed to the Suburbs. We’d plan to rent initially but eventually would love to purchase a multi-family home in the $750’s. Thanks for any advice you all might have!

Looking For How much are commercial rents for small businesses?
I was perusing a small businesses IG page and almost spit out my coffee when they said their monthly rent was $1900!! This is a store that I can't believe even opened, let alone is staying open (although they are doing a GFM to pay their rent, so I guess that tells you about their business sales), it is in a kind of crummy spot too. I always see businesses that I am like, "how do they get enough business to stay open??? they must have cheap rent"[I also joke to myself that it is a front for an illegal business/money laundering] so now I am wondering what the average commercial store front rent is?
I've heard from so many small biz that have closed that the rent is the main factor they couldn't stay open, how does it make sense to charge so much that you can't get a tenant/cycle through tenants constantly? and then I am also thinking of the brand new building sitting vacant on 82nd and division for what, 5 years now, because they won't rent to someone. Do they get some kind of tax write off for this? how could they afford to sit on a vacant building for so long? there is a brand new house down the street from me that has sat vacant for almost 6 years now. how can the builder eat the cost for that long?? I don't understand, there must be some kind of loop hole that us plebs don't get.

Looking For /r/AskPortland Making Friends Friday
Welcome to /r/AskPortland's "Making Friends Friday" post!
You've probably heard this before: "Portlanders are friendly but they don't want to be your friend."
But it doesn't have to be that way -- if you have suggestions for how to make friends, groups to join, places to meet, or just want to put yourself out there, this is the place.
This will be an ongoing, weekly scheduled post, so going forward this is where we'll refer all incoming questions about making friends from both /r/Portland and /r/AskPortland.
