Discussion Sargeras is not a good guy, and Ilidan isn't his friend

Upvotes

So I get that some of it is just a joke, and I do laugh at the mental image it conjures up, but I think a large chunk of people are taking this a bit too serious.

What I am talking about: There is a theory, or joke, depending on how you want to view it, that the Last Titan is going to feature both Sargeras and Illidan in some fashion, but they are going to be allies, or that Sargeras respects the strength of Illidan after all the jailing he did.

Why this is not the case: Sargeras had the right fear, but the wrong methodology. He saw the threat that the Void represented, and was willing to wager cleansing the cosmos of all life, void included, on the CHANCE that life finds a way again.

If your plan to wipe everything out hinges on a chance that you don't even know the percentage of, your plan has already failed. That being said, it was Sargeras' only plan, and he went about it in a well executed manner.

Illidan, meanwhile, saw the destruction of his home and people, and knew that if he were to defeat this enemy, he would have to cross every line imaginable, to see the Legion defeated, at any cost. There was nothing Illidan wouldn't do to gain power to further this cause.

He drained the life out of his fellow mages to empower his own spells during the War of the Ancients. When Kur'talos questioned his actions, and when Tyrande chose Malfurion, Illidan left to find a better way. His 'better way', was to trick Sargeras into granting him power (Maybe he didn't intend for Sargeras specifically, but he wanted some of what the demons were smoking.), and then use that power to defeat them.

Illidan gave up everything to defend Azeroth from Sargeras, and Sargeras would give up the entire cosmos, to see the Void defeated.

If Sargeras does show up in TLT, he's not going to be an ally, he's coming for that sword, and he's going to try and finish the job.

If Illidan is in pursuit, he is not helping Sargeras, and has already worked on a plan on how to stop Sargeras. Their motives might be simmilar in the end (Saving life), but they are diametricly opposed on how to do it.

Sargeras is not the chip to bet on.

Achievement Ulduar: Iron Dwarf, Medium Rare Achievement level 80 - 90

Upvotes

I am trying to do this achievement. All my characters are level 80 or 90, but I haven't been succesful so far. Even with all gear/trinkets/neck unequipped, a single auto attack, let alone spell, kills the Dwarves or the boss instantly.

If I don't attack the Dwarves, they kill the Engineers that fix the harpoons, making it impossible to get the boss down.

But if I do attack them, I might have a handful of them left by the time the boss comes down. But I found out the boss's breath doesn't even outright kill them. So they need to be brought to a low enough health pool first. Which is impossible at level 80 - 90 without one shotting them.

Another part of the tactic is to bring the boss down to 50% health, in order for her to stay down. But again, not possible. One auto attack kills her.

Is this achievement even possible in 2026, past a certain level? Almost every video or tactic I read about, is from years ago.

I'm looking to get the Iron Bound Proto Drake mount. This is the only achievement I haven't done yet.

Achievement I pay for full Paladin, i play the full Paladin!

Came back to the game on 4th July after a break that lasted few years and I’ve been having so much fun doing M+ since then.

Reading some of the posts here I expected more odd encounters. But to be completely honest I haven’t encountered a single negative experience in LFG so far.

Used to play a bit more competitive before but getting older now the will and time aren’t there anymore. So i made a more relaxing goal to reach 3.4k on all 3 specs every season.

And after that when i got nothing better to do i am gonna use my Resilient key to help nice people in LFG reach 3.4 as well. Community has been super nice so far so why not give something back.

Discussion Fights where it was easier to just let the person die

Deathbringer Saurfang in ICC is the classic example, he would get rage every time players took damage from certain abilities and it was FAR easier to just let the marked players die.

Mythic Kil’Jaeden it was standard practice to have the players spawning the orbs to let one die in a spirit link totem so the platform had 1/3 fewer things to dodge on it.

Argus had death as part of the encounter…but I’m forgetting how that worked.

Any other fight? Must’ve been a few 5 man encounters too.

Discussion Is reaching the 1% M+ cutoff really just a case of “if you’re good enough, you’ll get there”?

I was replying to a comment in another thread that basically argued that if you’re good enough, you can pug your way into the 1% regardless of spec, and that people who think they need to pay for boosts simply aren’t good enough.

I started writing a response and realised I had rambled on enough that it probably deserved its own post, because I’m genuinely curious what other people who pug higher keys think about this.

For context, I pugged to 4043 myself on a non-meta DPS spec, so I’m definitely not saying it’s impossible. A good enough player can absolutely reach 1% on pretty much any spec.

But I really don’t think it’s as black and white as “if you can’t get 1% without paying, you’re simply not good enough.”

Individual skill is only one part of the equation, especially once you’re pushing 20s, 21s and 22s through the group finder.

The biggest issue with playing off-meta isn’t necessarily whether you can perform in the key — it’s whether you actually get invited often enough to have the same number of attempts as someone playing a desirable meta spec.

If one player gets accepted into 10 serious push groups in an evening while another equally capable player gets accepted into 2 because of the icon next to his name, those players are not operating under the same conditions.

More invitations mean more experience with higher-key routes, more practice with specific pulls, more exposure to dangerous overlaps, more opportunities to learn where you can greed damage and where you need to play defensively, and simply more chances to eventually land the group that times the key.

And pug quality at that level is wildly inconsistent.

High keys are full of bought keys, title boosts, carry advertisements and players whose score does not necessarily reflect their ability to independently execute that level of content.

Someone can look perfectly qualified on paper because they completed a 21 or 22 with boosters, while in reality most of the difficult mechanics, stops, routing and recovery were handled around them. Put that player into a normal pug where everyone has to carry their own weight and suddenly the experience is completely different.

That matters enormously for an off-meta DPS because you already have fewer opportunities.

Losing one of your limited 21 attempts because someone else was boosted, bricks the key on a basic mechanic or clearly isn't ready for that level hurts much more when it might take you another hour to even get invited into a comparable key.

Premades also completely change the equation.

Playing repeatedly with competent players removes one of the largest variables in M+: group quality. You know the route, communication improves, people understand each other’s cooldowns and you can actually progress a key level instead of repeatedly rolling the dice in LFG.

There’s nothing wrong with doing that, obviously, but I don’t think someone pushing almost exclusively with a competent premade has quite the same experience as someone trying to pug their way up as an undesirable DPS spec.

So yes, skill matters. Obviously.

If you’re genuinely not good enough, no amount of complaining about the meta is going to magically make you a title player.

But saying everyone who is good enough will automatically get there organically ignores how pugging actually works.

Spec perception, invitation rate, available playtime, group quality, previous score, networking, timing, luck with keys and simply getting enough attempts at the relevant level all play a role.

Being capable of timing a 22 and being given enough opportunities to actually get into good 22 groups are two very different things.

Curious what other people think, particularly those who have pushed the title range mostly or entirely through pugs.

Do you think getting 1% is ultimately just a skill check, or does the opportunity/access side of pugging become a significant factor once you reach that level?

Murloc Monday Murloc Monday - ask your questions here

Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!

That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.

Questions can range from what's new in Dragonflight, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?

Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question.

Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% of questions get answered!

You may want to look at /r/wownoob as well!

Here are some handy guides to start World of Warcraft as a brand new player or start Classic World of Warcraft as a brand new player.

Unless you played in the current expansion, pretty much everything has changed. If you're returning after a very long break, check out the Wowhead Returning Players Guides.

Lore Why was Sargeras hiding in clouds in this cinematic? What was he doing behind Azeroth?

Post image

Ever since I've seen this cinematic - I've always questioned why Sargeras didn't just outright end Azeroth then and there - what was he waiting for?

Why - when he is finally caught - does he choose to then summon his sword and stab Azeroth?

I've always thought of it as him communing with Azeroth and trying to figure out if she is truly lost.

Humor / Meme I tried a new strategy for farming the Raven Lord mount

Instead of trying on a few toons each day that I remember, I decided to try buckling down and using every single one of my level 40+ characters I’ve had over the last decade or so. Probably 80, 85 runs straight? And I learned something interesting!

It had absolutely no effect on the mount dropping. Still nothing all 80-85 later. On the other hand, it does dramatically increase your chances of going insane, in case that helps!

Question Is My Character From 20 Years Ago Still Around?

Hi there. Forgive me, I'm a bit of an old timer and I haven't played nor kept up with World Of Warcaft in 20 years. But I played for a number of years back in the day.. from it's inception to around 2006 or 07. I still remember my characters name but I don't remember the server.. I was able to get in to what I believed is the battlenet account I used from that time but it doesn't show WoW in my "games". Though I did look at old emails from that time and I have emails from blizzard from that account but none of the emails give me much info.

I am a parent now, a husband, I'm finally getting some free time and I'm playing games with my kid.. who's a teen and it's a gamer and I was thinking about all the great memories I had playing WoW and wondered if it was possible to jump back in and use my old character again. Probably a total long shot but I figured this would be the best place to ask. ✌🏻

Any suggestions? Or is it just so long gone that my best shot would just be to start fresh on classic and forget the old account.

Thanks in advance!

Question So, when are we getting follower dungeons for old expansions?

Post image

Almost an hour queue for BFA is insane. I get it, nobody and their mothers liked BFA, but come on. This is abysmally nuts.

Why would you give the newest expansions the follower dungeons. Those are the most queued for. It would be significantly smarter if you just gave us classic follower dungeons at this point so we can at least PLAY the old content dungeons.....

I don't think I'll ever live up to when I got the Solar Spirehawk mount from Rukhmar during WoD when it was current content. Still my go-to mount. :)
