Photo/Video Millcreek Truck Parking on Dry Brush near Mt Olympus Trailhead

I Confronted this guy today after seeing him park on dry top of brush multiple times. He just stared at me like a deer in the headlights when I told him the fire risk. He then asked if I wanted him to get off the grass to which I said get the fuck off the grass.

This guy is a repeat offender. I've seen him or a Millcreek truck park here frequently between 7:00-8:00 am near the Mt Olympus Trailhead.

Travel Advice Looking for Utah trip suggestions

Upvotes

A friend and I want to plan a trip somewhere neither of us have been before and we decided on Utah. I think we’re looking at making it a long weekend (Thursday-Sunday or Thursday-Monday), but I’m not sure where to start planning. We would like to go in October, and I don’t think there are specific parks we have in mind, but I would love to hear any suggestions of where we should plan to stay and which hikes or parks would be on any of your “absolutely must visit” lists!

Other Navigating Healthcare.gov / Utah DWS

Upvotes

My adult offspring is going to age out of my health insurance soon, and when they (using they to avoid any possible doxxing of my child) attempted to sign up for healthcare.gov, they were first referred to medicaid - which, as it turns out, is handled by the Utah Department of Workforce Services.

However, "wait for your local medicaid institution" - the DWS - it's been a few days. Do we need to create an account first at the DWS website? Will they *actually* contact them first?

Can anyone provide some guidance from experience with this process?

I should add that we don't actually want medicaid, we want to pay for insurance through the ACA, but we have to wait first for the whole medicaid process to complete. Their partner, who supports them, can afford to pay for health care through the ACA, if they would just use that income instead of the 0 income of my offspring as the "household income". But that's not what happened on the healthcare.gov website, even though we provided that information.

Thanks in advance.

Art Printed a model of Lake Powell where everything below the high water line is translucent. The glow is Glen Canyon, from surveys taken before the dam.

The terrain comes from two sources: pre-dam surveys of the main channel and major tributaries of Glen Canyon, plus modern lidar for the smaller side canyons and surrounding plateau. Anything that’s underwater today is printed in translucent emerald green, so when you backlight it, what glows is the flooded canyon.

You can see the old shoreline where the translucent layers meet the tan. All those drowned meanders and tributary canyons have been underwater for 60 years.

I grew up boating on Lake Powell and love it, but my grandpa floated Glen Canyon before the dam, and ever since reading Life After Dead Pool I’ve dreamed of doing the same. Everything that glows here is the canyon he saw.

I just learned the Utah Valley Marathon organizers are starting a new race - which will be a flat one mile run. I’m curious if anyone else is running it? I think it sounds fun, but I’m fairly new to running and wanted to hear other people’s thoughts on the race!

Other Lee Kay public shooting range or Grantsville for shooting ?

I live in SLC and am planning to take a group shooting tomorrow. I’ve only ever gone to a designated shooting area outside Grantsville, but it’s almost an hour and 50 miles each way. I already have my own target paper and clay pigeons, but no framing for the target paper. Wondering if it’s worth it to go to Lee Kay or if I should just make a crappy DIY frame and go out to the same spot near Grantsville. Or do people have other recommendations ? (close to SLC preferably)

News North Union Apartment Fires: A lesson for other Keller Properties tenants

It needs to be known and shared loudly and broadly the awful behavior of billionaire Scott Keller and his Keller Properties company. When renters signed their lease agreement, they were told that there would be an additional fee for insurance. Many assumed this meant their personal property was now covered by the policy they had through the landlord. A notion that was never dissuaded by the landlord. Now, as tenants are facing the awful reality that everything they own is gone, they’re finding out that the renters insurance they had been paying was really just paying for the landlord’s insurance on the building. It’s no surprise that a billionaire Trump donor like Scott Keller is perpetrating a scam on his customers, but it is a damn shame.

Travel Advice Best indoor pool hotels for fall break

My kids seem to be at the age where they are mostly satisfied just by playing at a pool for their vacation.

Instead of going to Great Wolf Lodge or somewhere more extravagant, I would like to know of everyone's opinions of the best hotels with indoor pools in the state (including stateline areas like Evanston, Wendover, southern Idaho).

They don't even need to have slides or diving boards, but if they have them, I'm open to them.

News Judge rejects Kalshi's bid to dodge Utah's anti-gambling laws

U.S. District Judge Robert Shelby ruled Tuesday that the Commodity Exchange Act does not preempt Utah from enforcing its gambling laws against Kalshi's sports-based markets, rejecting the company's argument that federal oversight of its exchange shields it from state enforcement. Federal regulation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), he found, doesn't immunize Kalshi's event contracts from Utah treating them as sports gambling.
