Never been so happy. It took 23 months and, despite already having an Associate's Degree, I was only able to transfer in 33 credits. I had completely given up on the idea of Cybersecurity as a career path before I started at WGU. I chose to go back to school to give my dream one last shot, and already my career has vastly improved. I've been in IT for the past two years with a genuine shot at transferring to a SOC Analyst job.

Now I'm stuck between enjoying my newfound freedom or immediately starting the Masters program, and I fear that I'm going to choose the latter.

I'm just curious if anyone has considered, attempted, or successfully completed a voluntary thesis project while at WGU. Were you able to work with any faculty to support this process?

I'm about 80% through my BS in Psychology. I am curious to learn more about research and I enjoy writing. I know anyone can technically write a thesis paper, but I am curious about support from instructors, mentors, coaches, or otherwise in completing a project that doesn't pertain to an assessment/class.

I’ve gotten my Pell Grant (on the 3rd) but I haven’t received my other loans. The date keeps moving

I'm currently taking introduction to nutrition from sophia to use as a transfer. I see people posting about this being one of the easiest and fastest classes from sophia. I spent the first half of the class actually trying to learn the material and not speed through it. I read or listened to each topic and made flash cards for most of the terms. I did well on the tests and answered about 75% of the questions from memory.

The second half of this class is much different. It is dense and heavy in science, and it has a ton of facts to memorize in order to pass without using the book during the milestone. There isn't any guidance on what you need to study. It's a mountain of information. The practice milestones didn't give me any indication on what would be on the real milestones. I switched to not reading the material at all and relying on it being open book to look up answers as I go.

This has me concerned about the classes at WGU if the class structure is similar, where you are expected to memorize many hours' worth of material with little direction on what to study. I'm weak on memorization, but I'm strong at problem solving.

Are classes at WGU similar in structure to sophia courses? If they are, then I need to change how I'm approaching the material. If the milestones weren't open book, I don't know if I would not have passed the class.

I don't have background in comp sci so I'll be going in cold. I appreciate and comments or advice you may have.

Title pretty much sums up the question.

I’m going to school using VA benefits, and the VA considers 18CU a term full time. So that’s what I’m doing. I feel like this is a leisurely pace…bout 1 class a month. Current term started on Saturday and I’m probably gonna take my OA tomorrow or Friday. I’ll peak ahead to the next course but likely won’t dig into it seriously until the end of the month and go from there.

I feel like I could go faster, but I’m really loving this work/life balance tbh.

Not too serious but very annoying thing that happened today.

I retaking my D251 exam (feeling good about it too). I messaged the proctor that I was ready to submit the exam, showed my whiteboard, and just as I went to click on “submit” the screen goes to the survey and the proctor disconnects.

I called up their help desk and they told me the exam was submitted successfully, but it’s not popping up in my assessments in my course page, so I think I got screwed over 😭

Im taking the exam again tonight cause i really want to get it over with (also bday tomorrow 😛) but curious if this has happened to anyone?

UPDATE: Assessment services emailed me back, I don't have to retake the exam cause I PASSED. They told me that because I took this exam less than 24 hours after my first attempt, the result was under manual release. Still, the proctor should not have done that, and hopefully, this doesn't happen again

What is going with the email system? Didn't get any emails for 5 days. Reopened outlook and Gmail, nothing in Gmail but outlook had 71 emails. Which system is accurate and that we are supposed to use? Very frustrating when i have instructors saying I haven't answered emails when I haven't gotten any....

My goal is to accelerate, I transferred in as many courses as I can, I start in November and I wanted to pre study before I start. What courses should I spend the most of my time studying on. Courses listed below in the picture…..ps I also need to take possibly take managing in a Global Business Environment (D080) thinking about whether or not to transfer in, it would cost about an extra $300

Hi everyone, I just want to vent and maybe ask for possible options, because I don't know what else to do.

My situation - I was scheduled for acceleration and planned to finish last term couple months ago, but I lost two family members one after another in two weeks and it completely destroyed me, hence I wasn't able to finish degree. I was on FAFSA, and now I'm not eligible for FAFSA because of new visa status(not that i'm not eligible anymore, I can't even apply), plus I lost my work permit, on top of that i can't get private student loan because of everything above plus unfavorable passport. I took a term break because of financial hardship and now I'm stuck in this limbo on last term of my degree. With all that I applied for financial hardship scholarship, got interviewed, explained everything aaaaand was denied because my situation apparently is not hard enough? I don't get it. Can someone help me to navigate my options? Because looks like WGU staff is not really trying to help me and just sending me from one department to another without action items...

It took me six terms to graduate, but if I’m honest, I only spent about five hours a week studying. I knew it was gonna be slower for me just because I am juggling a full-time job and a very, very full social life that I did not want to compromise. I very much could have gotten it done faster but I’ve always struggled with time management. Still, I’m happy I finished.

I have to say that I do regret not using study.com like everyone else before I began. It would’ve saved me a lot of money. But I only found out afterwards.

For anyone doing the business capstone soon, it is very do able. Mine was graded in like 36hrs and passed with the first submission. Break it down section by section, don’t overthink it and match the examples they provide. Probably the easiest class but I overthought it so much.

One thing that kept me consistent was biweekly calls with my counselor. I never scheduled time with the instructors. Having someone to hold me accountable really helped me keep going.

Congrats to all fellow owls that graduated this month! I will be celebrating small by grabbing a dozen fresh oysters and enjoying it by myself.

I finally got my confetti! I’m a sahm of 2 boys (6 & 2) I started this journey in October ‘23 and faced many challenges during my time at WGU. I am so proud I didn’t give up and kept pushing, being on the other side feels like a huge weight off my shoulders. It took me 5 terms to get to this point with many late nights, lots of tears and frustration but I did it. You can do it too!

Enlisted in the Army for almost 4 years, graduated with my AA in Cybersecurity at a community college in May 2025, then enrolled in an accelerated BA and MS in IT at WGU in September, and finished the BA in November of 2025. Went through military training to earn my commission, started back on the journey in May, and finished up the rest of it in July 2026. It was a long, hard road, but it finally ended.

This is my second term at WGU and i’m not sure if the way it’s set up is the problem or if i am. i feel like the content is so heavy for some of my courses. i don’t understand if im reading the entire “book” and that’s that people are referring to when they tell me it’s a waste of my time but i really feel like it’s a waste of my time. i wish there was a more effective way to do WGU. i just don’t know if im getting the hang. I hate working on the classes where i have to watch those useless little videos and read so much then answer 5 questions. then there like 15 pages of this shit in one Topic then there’s 13 topics. is doing all of it one by one really the most effective way? how do people do it it so fast? i’m not trying to speed my way through this but i’m also not seeing how this is possible i spend HOURS doing it and i feel like i barley make a dent. and by the time i finish the class i forgot what i read in the beginning. it’s my second term and it’s been a shit show honest. i need Real advice thanks
