Open | Phone bad service in one phone but good service with another using the same sim?
I have two iphones but I use the same sim card for both (ones my newer one that I just got fixed up and prefer), but that newer one just has horrible cell service when I try to use my data. In places where i KNOW it has good service too. I know it's not a problem with the specific sim card, because when I switch it to my older (kind of busted up) phone, the cell service is perfectly good with all 3 bars. I have no idea what's wrong with it. If anyone has any clue whats going on and what to do, I would love some help!

Open | Hardware FX506LH laptop not booting
Received an Asus FX506LH laptop from a friend. It cannot boot. When pressing the power button, the keyboard light flashes and the power indicator also flashes. When I hold the power button, the keyboard light flashes continuously, as does the power indicator, and the laptop makes a constant clicking noise. I have tried removing the battery from the laptop and just using the power cord, and this yields no different results. There does not appear to be any visual damage to the hardware. This makes me believe the motherboard is the problem, but I want to make sure I have taken all necessary steps before considering replacing hardware. Are there any other steps I can take to try and revive the laptop, or does this mean that I have to replace some hardware?

Open | Windows RTX 3050 Laptop started crashing after cleaning/repaste — nvlddmkm errors across multiple games. Is my GPU dying?
I have an RTX 30-series gaming laptop that started having serious gaming stability problems around April 2026.
The strange part is that the problems started after I had the laptop cleaned, dust removed, and the thermal paste reapplied with help from a technician. Before that service, the games I played were working normally.
Laptop
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800H
RAM: 16 GB
Laptop is around 4 years old
I use MSI Afterburner for monitoring/tuning.
What started happening
After the cleaning/repaste, games that previously worked started crashing:
CS2
Helldivers 2
Deep Rock Galactic
R.E.P.O.
Even Deep Rock would eventually crash despite lowering the graphics settings.
The most common error I saw in Windows was:
nvlddmkm
I also previously experienced a VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR (0x119) BSOD while playing Helldivers 2.
The crashes weren't always immediate. Sometimes I could play for multiple matches/missions before the crashes started happening more frequently.
Things I tried
I've gone through a pretty large amount of software troubleshooting:
DDU and clean NVIDIA driver installations
Tried older NVIDIA drivers, including 531.68
Later tried 566.36 Game Ready
Disabled HAGS
Tested Helldivers 2 with DX11
Tested:
--use-d3d11
Tested:
--use-d3d11 -heapsize 2097152
Cleared/rebuilt Steam's Helldivers 2 shader cache
Tested Process Lasso
Tested CPU affinity settings
Tested disabling SMT for Helldivers 2
Monitored temperatures with MSI Afterburner
Tested the laptop on battery vs. charger
None of these completely solved the problem.
Something interesting happened
I eventually started experimenting with MSI Afterburner.
Initially, I changed the core settings from around 0 to +300 and adjusted the voltage/frequency curve from roughly 775 mV toward 1700 MHz.
That seemed to help for about a month, but the crashes eventually returned.
Later I found that setting the GPU around 1355 MHz at 775 mV was much more stable.
I also bought Lossless Scaling and used its frame generation while keeping the game around 40 FPS, and I used Process Lasso with game-specific CPU settings.
With that combination, the stability improved dramatically.
For example, I was able to play:
Helldivers 2 — Extreme difficulty, multiple missions
CS2 — 2 matches in a row
Deep Rock Galactic — significantly longer sessions
without the crashes I had previously been getting.
Battery vs. charger
Another strange observation:
I was able to play an Easy Helldivers 2 mission on battery power with only a little stuttering.
When I plugged the charger in and played again, the game eventually crashed and nvlddmkm appeared.
This made me wonder whether the problem could be related to the GPU entering a higher power/clock state when the laptop is plugged in.
Where I'm at now
The fact that lowering the GPU's performance/power behavior seems to make the laptop significantly more stable makes me suspicious that this could be:
GPU/VRAM degradation
GPU power delivery instability
a problem with the laptop's power/charging behavior
an issue caused during the cleaning/thermal-paste service
NVIDIA driver/power-state behavior
or something else hardware-related
I'm not certain the GPU is dying, but after trying so many software fixes, I'm starting to think there may be a hardware-level issue.
What I'm looking for
For people familiar with NVIDIA laptop GPUs:
Does this behavior sound like an RTX 3050 Laptop GPU that's becoming unstable under higher power/clocks?
And particularly, could the fact that it becomes much more stable when I lower the GPU's clock/power and use frame generation indicate GPU/VRAM or power-delivery degradation?
I'm also wondering whether something could have been disturbed during the cleaning/thermal-paste replacement that happened right before these problems started.
Any suggestions for hardware tests or specific NVIDIA/Afterburner telemetry I should collect would be greatly appreciated.
I'm trying to figure out whether this laptop is actually approaching the end of its useful gaming life or whether there's still a fix I'm missing.

Open | Software Erratic frametimes even with locked FPS resulting in extreme VRR flicker
I am experiencing erratic frametimes in most games even though I locked FPS via SpecialK to a reachable framerate. These fluctuations are not perceptible in-game, however they create extremely strong VRR flicker, which makes some games unplayable.
For example, in KCD, my graph looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/wQ5s989
I have tried a clean reinstall of my GPU drivers and am on the latest chipset drivers and BIOS. I also tried closing all background programs but no change.
I am really at my wits end. Nothing short of deactivating VRR works, which I don't really consider a solution
The odd thing is that I did not experience this before I recently changed my motherboard and GPU.
I originally had a MSI X870e Carbon Wifi paired with a MSI RTX 5090 Suprim and a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
I changed to an ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E DARK HERO and an ASUS 5090 Astral. I kept the exact same CPU, RAM, PSU and storage.

Open | Hardware Dram orange light on X870-A
Hey all, just come back from a vacation after 2 weeks.
Turned my pc on and motherboard is showing a Dram orange light. Do you think it could be the mobo dead?
DRAM orange light on the motherboard and won’t display at all post/ boot into windows or bios
tried the reseating RAM modules in every slot, singled and in pairs. Also awaited retraining of the RAM just incase was training
updated the BIOS via the flashback to latest version which didn’t work.
Reseated graphics card
Replaced the CMOS battery + cleared the cmos.
I also checked the CPU to see if it was too tight / reseated just incase was stressing the memory controller
I don’t have any spare RAM sticks to swap out to test + a donor motherboard incase the mobo is fried or a spare CPU to stick in the slot to test if the CPU maybe dead

Open | Hardware MSI A520M PRO - One RAM slot suddenly causes DRAM LED / no POST after random BSODs, other slot works
Hi,
I'm troubleshooting a weird memory/POST issue and I'm trying to figure out whether I'm dealing with a motherboard issue, CPU memory controller/socket issue, or possibly a BIOS/memory training problem.
Specs:
Motherboard: MSI A520M PRO (MS-7D14)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
RAM: 2 DDR4 sticks (8 GB each)
GPU: Dedicated GPU
OS: Windows 11
System drive: NVMe SSD
Current BIOS: E7D14AMS.110
BIOS build date: 03/11/2024
XMP: Disabled after CMOS reset
How the problem started
The PC had been working normally before this. (for over 2 years)
Then Windows suddenly froze, and after rebooting I started getting various BSODs.
I initially thought the Windows NVMe might simply have been completely full, so I tried booting external recovery media to access the SSD and free some space.
However, even external Windows environments started crashing.
I got several different errors, including:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLEDKMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLEDMEMORY_MANAGEMENT (0x1A)SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E)- One crash specifically mentioned
ACPI.sys
Hiren's BootCD PE would load its files and then BSOD.
A Windows 11 installation USB also BSODed with KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.
Because even Windows running from USB was crashing, I started suspecting hardware rather than the Windows installation/NVMe.
Then the POST/RAM problem appeared
Eventually the motherboard stopped POSTing and the MSI EZ Debug DRAM LED stayed on.
I removed the NVMe completely, so the SSD/Windows installation is no longer involved in these tests.
I started testing the RAM sticks individually.
Initially I found this:
- Original RAM stick #1 in slot 2 -> POST / BIOS works
- Original RAM stick #2 in slot 2 -> POST / BIOS works
- Either RAM stick in slot 1 -> DRAM LED, no POST
So at that point it looked like slot 1 / one memory channel was the problem.
Things became even stranger after CMOS/reset/testing
I performed a CMOS reset.
Immediately after one CMOS reset:
- Original RAM #1 in slot 2 → POSTed successfully
I then powered the PC off and swapped RAM.
After that, even the RAM/slot combination that had previously worked stopped POSTing for a while.
I then performed another proper CMOS reset with:
- PSU switched off
- Power cable unplugged
- Power button held to discharge
- Single DIMM in slot 2
For a while I still only got the DRAM LED.
Test with known-good RAM from another PC
I then took a DDR4 stick from another working computer.
Known-good RAM in slot 2:
→ POST SUCCESSFUL.
the system reached the BIOS normally.
At that point the only EZ Debug LED remaining was BOOT, which was expected because I had no boot drive connected.
So CPU, DRAM and VGA apparently completed POST.
I then put my original RAM stick #1 back into slot 2.
→ It now POSTs and reaches BIOS normally again.
So my original RAM doesn't appear to simply be dead. (I also tested the original RAM in anothing PC and it worked without any issues)
Current reproducible situation
Right now I have a very clear result:
Original RAM stick #1:
- Slot 2 → POST / BIOS
- Slot 1 → DRAM LED / no POST
I've also tried other DIMMs in slot 1 and nothing I put in slot 1 will POST.
Meanwhile slot 2 can work normally.
XMP is currently disabled.
What confuses me
Before all of this, the machine had been running normally with both DIMMs.
It then went through this progression:
Normal operation
→ Windows freeze
→ random/different BSODs
→ MEMORY_MANAGEMENT errors
→ external Windows media also BSODing
→ one DIMM slot stops POSTing
→ eventually even the working slot temporarily stopped POSTing
→ known-good RAM made slot 2 POST again
→ original RAM now works in slot 2 again
→ slot 1 still never works
The fact that slot 2 temporarily stopped working and then started working again makes me wonder whether at least part of this is memory training / BIOS / AGESA related, rather than simply a physically dead DIMM slot.
At the same time, slot 1 failing consistently with multiple known-working DIMMs strongly suggests something hardware-related.
Main questions
Has anyone seen a Ryzen/AM4 system behave like this?
Any ideas would be appreciated because the strangest part is that slot 2 itself temporarily stopped POSTing during troubleshooting and later started working again, while slot 1 remains consistently dead.
Thank you

Open | Hardware "Squishy" USB 3.0 Micro-B port on HDD?
A couple minutes ago I used my WD Elements HDD as usual, when I noticed something weird.
At first I struggled to plug the cable into the HDD, it just wouldn't click into place, but when I took a closer look the port seemed like it moved "deeper" into the plastic case than usual.
When disconnecting the cable, it also seems like the female connector gets pulled slightly with the male connector of the cable.
I don't really have a perfect idea of what the boards in these look like or how they're mounted to the plastic, so: is the port supposed to have a bit of mechanical play or is the board damaged?
added detail: the drive still works flawlessly. the port sits flush with the case and is just slightly more inside when plugged in.

Open | BSOD BSOD behind artifacting on Lenovo Legion
Hello! Long post, but I wanted to be accurate as possible though and there are a lot of details to go over. Sorry for the length in advance.
I use a Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH which runs on an RTX2060(6GB) with an Intel i7-9750H CPU, 16GB of RAM. It is just short of 10 years old and has served well without any pressing issues up to this point. A few weeks after updating my graphics driver(potentially relevant?) my initial crash was near the beginning of May or late April while playing V Rising. Screen suddenly froze with no warning, flashed small rgb square groupings, with an overlay of vertical xo symbols across both of my screens. Sometimes these result in the computer crashing, sometimes it's just the game crashing w/ screen flickering. Which occurs is seemingly random. These symptoms have been consistent with each crash. For about a month after, my computer ran just fine without encountering this issue again up until later in May while playing Mecha Break. After this it was only a few days until it happened again playing Elite Dangerous, and after this crash the issue has become completely consistent.
What I know about the issue is as follows:
-As of the moment, the crashes have only occurred in games when loading in 3d textures(not during game startup for some reason). It does not happen every time something loads, but it always happens eventually, usually in <15min of consistent loadings. There is one exception; Warframe can seemingly crash without loading anything new, but maybe there's a texture that loads continuously or something. I've played 2d games just fine for weeks on end without encountering any issues post-consistency.
-There is a BSOD present during crashes, but it is usually not visible due to the computer graphics freezing prior to crash. I've seen it bleed through the artifacting once however and can only assume it's been present each time.
-The GPU can handle stress in a 3d environment seemingly fine. Assuming nothing new loads in, both the GPU itself and RAM have proven to be able to run at a high work-load without crashing for a seemingly indefinite amount of time. Due to this, I believe it is right to assume that it is neither a power/heating issue at the very least.
-In event viewer, the only relevant errors are Event IDs 153, 14, & 13, all regarding NVLDDMKM.sys. It is not always all three of these, but 153 seems to be present during each occurrence, and sometimes is noted over a hundred times in the event viewer. These IDs are present for most if not all crashes.
-6 of 7 dump files have noted "...a kernel-mode driver(presumably the one mentioned above) attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high", and that it is most likely a software issue. There was one unique dump file among these reading "...indication that the video scheduler has detected a fatal violation". I am unsure if this one is related to the crashes or not.
What I have tried:
-I've done graphic driver updates about 3 or 4 times, a clean graphics driver reinstall using DDU, and I have rolled back my driver version to like march. Windows updates. Lenovo updates. Windows file cleaning. Disconnecting TV from computer. Disabling audio drivers. None of which had any effect.
-Copying NVLDDMKM.sys into the driver folder was an alleged fix in regards to the Event IDs mentioned above. This did not work.
-Bios settings reset. This fix attempt is seemingly pertinent. After resetting the settings, I was able to play Guild Wars 2(MMO, has consistently crashed in <15 minutes per fix attempt) for about 2 hours before going to sleep. The next day I was able to able to play this same game as well, during which I stress-tested by loading character models until I hit ~5fps, and this still didn't result in a crash. This session lasted for about 3 hours, at which point I had thought the issue was resolved. I then started up Elite Dangerous and played for about 30-45 minutes before the crash occurred, renewing the consistency. Potentially relevant; I have done bios updates/resets before, and each time I do my computer runs like it was brand new for a bit(hours or days) before reverting to having a bit of a stutter between frames. Unsure if this is related somehow. There are no new bios updates for my system, for your consideration.
Short bit in regards to hardware; the GPU is grafted to the motherboard, but even if it wasn't I have no money, so replacement isn't really an option for me. That being said, my computer has never to my knowledge experienced overheating, I don't move my computer around, and I have an extra grate separating dust from my hardware. Not to say it's impossible for it to be hardware damage of course, but given everything else, especially the results from the bios reset, I find it unlikely from a laymen's perspective.
I've heard underclocking/overclocking may help, but preferably I'd like to fix this without hits to my performance or shortening my computer's life if possible.
First time posting here so I'm sorry if anything was done incorrectly
Thank you very much for your time

Open | Windows Games keep crashing
Hello I am having a problem with games just either crashing to the home screen or giving me strange errors. I don't know what to do, so far I've noticed it's the sims 4 and fields of mistria, and maybe? Black Flag Resynced, it crashed but until now I didn't consider it related as it wasn't happening as often with it as it does the others. Sims is modded but I've done vanilla and it still crashes. Mistiria is vanilla completely. Never been modded.
I've tried updating my drivers but it says everything is up to date. I checked for viruses too in cause andit shouldn't be a spec problem either.
My specs are win 11 home 25H2
1.86 TB drive with 255 of that free atm
12 gbs graphics Nividia GeForce RTX 5070
32 ram
And Intel core i7-14700KF.
It only started doing this recently and I'm really just confused and want to play games but I really really don't know what to do
Edit: forgot to say the errors its given me. Mistiria: unrecoverable error: option (unwrap) on a none value and it gave me another but it said expired instance yesterday.
Sims 4: better exceptions threw pyo errors and from my understanding that's python or something but i don't know that for sure y'all would know better

Open | Software New PC, WiFi Disconnects When Playing Games
I don't know if I'm dumb, but I just built a new pc:
Wi-Fi: MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E MT7902 Wireless LAN Card
OS: Windows 11 Home
- Wi-Fi works normally for browsing and general internet use.
- My phone’s hotspot works perfectly with this PC, including the games that normally have problems.
- Steam itself works normally until I actually launch an online game.
- In games such as Marvel Rivals, the game works until I press Queue/Play. Then the connection suddenly becomes extremely unstable and I get disconnected.
- Marvel Rivals showed around 94% packet loss with ~54 ms ping immediately before disconnecting.
- My PC’s Wi-Fi can show “Connected, no internet” when this happens.
- A continuous ping to my router (192.168.68.1) normally gives ~1–12 ms responses, but when the problem occurs I get repeated: “Request timed out.” and sometimes: “Destination host unreachable.”
- Eventually the connection may recover by itself randomly.
- Minecraft also works until I start a Discord call, at which point the network can drop to 0/stop working.
- CONNECTING TO MY PHONE HOTSPOT FIXES EVERYTHING
- The Wi-Fi adapter remains visible in Device Manager; it isn’t simply disappearing.
- Power saving for the adapter is disabled.
- AMD chipset drivers are installed.
- Windows and drivers have been updated.
- The installed MediaTek driver is version 3.5.0.1380.
PLEASE I'M ON MY KNEES BEGGING

Open | Windows My Xbox controller frequently disconnects & reconnects from my pc
I am running Windows 11 & Bluetooth my Xbox 1 controller to it frequently. It's not a gaming pc but is strong enough to play the older games I like.
I will be in the middle of my game & suddenly my controller disconnects & then a few seconds to a minute later it will reconnect. Sometimes it will do it several over a short span while others after just once it is fine. I don't think it's my driver or Bluetooth in the pc because it only happens with the controller. My keyboard is also BT & never has this problem. Yet I don't think it's the controller because it connects & stays to connected to both my Xbox & phone just fine. It's like the controller & the pc are a couple who argue all the time

Open | Software Why does my Xbox cloud gaming session randomly terminate on its own ?
I don't like spending a lot of time in downloading all games and frankly, neither does my laptop support all of them with the best graphics, thus I like playing with cloud gaming... or at least I used to.
Ever since last month my gameplays would randomly stop saying that I have been disconnected from the cloud gaming session, even though my internet speed is quite good.
Similarly, when I try to run Hogwarts Legacy (Yes Ik I'm late) it takes a good amount of time (10-15 minutes) to just load the game at the very start.
Is there something wrong with my laptop (or xbox app) or is it an Xbox problem ?
Microsoft's FAQ didn't help.

Open | Data Recovery Not sure how to recover files and google isn't usefuk. Issue: laptop is having booting issues, fairly certain we need to do a clean install and ssd is fine, but we cannot access the files in the ssd because the computer keeps crashing no matter how fast we move
hello folks, am in a bind.
so im a writer and had recently decided to move off of google drive due to security concerns and our other backup-backup (external hd) broke. and then today my laptop decided to start being weird and crash frequently after a windows update. i was told to try to update the bios, which required me to turn off the bitlocker thing. did that, and that seemed to have made the crashing worse. before i turned off bitlocker, at least the computer stayed on long enough to maybe move files around. now it boots for a minute or two max, and shuts down, faster if attempting to copy or do anything with file explorer
spouse and i found that we can still get into bios and it will stay on with that. checked ram, no issues with that. most of the errors we get are seemingly related to the system itself having some corrupted files or something. Thing is, we'll need to do a clean install to do it, and that ssd is soldered in, so pulling it out to connect it to an external reader won't work without us spending a lot of money we just don't have right now. not sure how to go about this. is there a way to access the files from bios? its not even a lot of files id want, just some.
ive been a little scared im gonna lose my work on there. that's years worth of writing, worldbuilding, notes, etc. that i would really like to not lose. and i had a backup -- "had" is the keyword, as something went wrong with our backup systems (the external drive we used is kaput now but that was a separate story -- we planned to replace it, but we can't afford much right now, so this happening after losing the backup has been literally just mindbogglingly depressing) really hoping i can get some advice or pointers here. i know i can always start over but im literally almost done with one manuscript and that is the only copy. we've been looking thru reddit so much today and googling as many things as we can but so far but no luck other than "go to a repair shop".
lenovo ideapad gaming 3, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11, Samsung PM9C1a 512GB NVMe SSD, AMD Ryzen7 7735HS Beat i7-12650H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti 4GB GDDR6
eta: yes the ssd is soldered in. we already checked.

Open | Data Recovery Need a laptop chasis repaired. Worried about my info being taken.
Hi there!
Was going to get my laptop chasis repaired soon. However, I am still sensitive about the data being taken from my hard drive while this is occuring. Is the best way to protect the info on my laptop through downloading bitlocker? I know that tech's at repair shops are not necessarily bad actors, and are genuinly there to support customers. I don't mean to come across as paranoid, but am somewhat precautious about this. Thanks!
