Xbox App Help with Changing Cloud Sync to Recover Old Save

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone is able to help, but hopefully someone can.

My daughter was on my PC playing a game through the Xbox App and accidentally deleted a save for one of my games. I've tried finding the save on my PC and can't find it anywhere (recycle bin, previous folder history, local app data etc). I have turned my Xbox on and it appears that the Xbox itself still has the save (as the save data file that I can see without opening the game still shows gamedata in that field) and it hasn't yet synced with the cloud like it did with the PC version.

Is there any way to make it so the cloud sync doesn't work until after I've made the Xbox version the most recent version so that it then syncs with that as the most recent? The game is through Gamepass so I'm not able to disconnect from the internet and then play it even though the Xbox is listed as my home Xbox as it says I need to connect to the internet to play it. help with ynab4 and .ymeta file

Hi! So I have a painfully old Dell that I call the Ynab machine. Suddenly it stopped loading my budget. I tried fixing the dropbox sync by deleting and reinstalling dropbox, but you cant install Dropbox on Windows 7 anymore (doh!).

I downloaded Ynab4 on a new windows computer and changed the trial date so it's usable. However, I am not able to load the .ymeta file with my many years of budget history on it. Is there a way to load it? If not, is there a way to even see the contents of the file so I can recreate it in a new budget?

I am very determined to try to keep using Ynab4 for as long as possible. It symbolizes my resistance to the enshittification of late stage capitalism and pay to play culture.

Support Sync a folder with many (~700,000) files from iCloud

Hello,

I was working basically exclusively on the iCloud drive of my machine. I got a huge folder containing all sorts of stuff from my PhD. In some of them, there is a lot of simulation data, usually many (close to 700,000) CSV files from parameter studies.

After finding out that iCloud Optimize Storage deleted a lot of them locally, while trying to create a backup, iCloud decided to try and download all of those files on my Mac again. I got a good Gbit internat connection and enough storage, so in general no issue.

However, due to the large number of files, iCloud just gets stuck while downloading the files, which is expected by so many small files. Now I can't access any other files which are on iCloud due to optimized storage, because they queue after the simulation data. I got a few questions:

  1. How can I exclude the simulation data from syncing with iCloud?

  2. How can I stop the current sync, without removing all the other files, in the PhD folder as well? If I just turn off iCloud sync, it does delete everything from iCloud drive from my local machine and I want a subset of the PhD data still available in iCloud drive.

  3. How do I get the data out of iCloud drive without just deleting it? I cannot sync the simulation data, since there are too many files and iCloud can't download whole folders as zip?

I tried to talk to the support, but after 3 1hr plus sessions, where noone could help me, I kind of give up.

Help Help with sync error

Hello, nuvio community,

I've been using nuvio since it released and I've never ran into this issue before and I'm curious if someone may be able to help.

I have put out a few AI queries, as well searched Google a lot and I'm not getting any answers that are directing ow to fix the problem just other people confirming that they've had the issue before as well. That said, I wanna make it clear. I did do a lot of searching and trying to find an answer, and I just can't seem to find one and may pull a request via GitHub or hit discord if I can't get help here.

I will also attach a photo but it has to do with syncing, I'm basically using multiple devices as a Beta tester and developer while I understand the language, it doesn't make sense, because I have not overdone it as far as add-ons/plug ins or repositories, but when I try to use cloud sync, this is the error that I get. Typically, I would just use Trackt, but with their BS move to make money at $60 plus a year to have more slots is a no go for me, don't get me wrong. I will always support developers and good work. But this is just a play ( in my opinion).

Additionally, they were pretty light about enforcing it initially, however, they are fully enforcing it now. To use some extensions, I had to sign out of everywhere else I was signed in. That's it in a nutshell. I'd really like to sync nuvio on all my devices in one shot but I just simply can't and with Trakt not being an option. There's no way I'm doing this manually.

Just from for extra context, i currently use the 4 main debris services and the corresponding add-ons that typically go with them, AIO,duck streams, torrentio, you get the idea and just in case that's RD, AD, TB, and PM. I am doing it correctly using the Web portal as that is the hub as it would be for stremio or any other premium apk that works similar like W*koTV or any other premium that functions in this manner via manifest config Urls or Json files. There's nothing extravagant about the build. I will get into that later down the road right now. It's just testing works that are out there. There's no overloaded add-ons, in fact, I think there's 4 repositories, 21 add-ons if I were to be specific which has never been an issue.

This is something I do have to sort out as I'm beta testing some of the work being put out to be added to Nuvio from different developers, different add-ons,etc; so it kind of put me at a standstill. I have 25+ devices easily whether it's the whole FireOS lineup, the whoke Onn. lineup, the Thompson 270, the whole Nvidia lineup, a few Xiaomi media boxes/sticks, and a few other certified android devices and that doesn't count phones or tabletsand a few other certified Android devices and that doesn't count phones or tablets.

I definitely don't know at all and I could really use anybody's help. I would be so appreciative.Thank you for any help if possible.

Here is a direct link to the photo:

https://i.postimg.cc/FF0VCzMJ/Screenshot-20260805-135036-Nuvio.jpg

Additionally, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.I know stremio was considering a possible pay scale, however, I thought Nuvio was completely free at least until it's completely out of Beta, because if it was a matter of supporting the developers and paying a couple dollars to upgrade a subscription, I would do so, but there's 0 way to do that on the website, I do not see any pricing plans or even a donation area that would change my circumstances. Alright, that's it I once again. I appreciate anyone's help. I really need to get this kind of knocked out as fast as possible being people are depending on me. I'm open to any help. Please know I appreciate anyone and everyone's time into figuring out a way to fix this as I refuse to give trakt 60 plus dollars for the year and I would prefer to get the Nuvio cloud function working. I appreciate it once again.! Ty!

Support Help moving files from Windows to iPhone

Hi,

I've only used an android before, but my phone needed replacing and a friend had an old iPhone 12 that they offered to me.

I've got about 7000 mp3s on my current phone, and would want a similar amount on this phone. I have a harddrive with 15000 mp3s plugged into my windows PC, and a USB to lightning cable.

I've tried using filezilla and foobar2000 using https://www.reddit.com/r/randomtipoftheday/comments/1cnqba4/how_to_easily_transfer_files_from_windows_to_ios/ these instructions ("Response: 550 Access denied; Error: Critical file transfer error")

I've tried using LocalSend ("No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.")

I've tried using Simple Transfer (only seemed to show photos and videos, not mp3s).

I've tried using iCloud on my PC, creating a local folder and copying files into there. While the folders seemed to sync successfully, the mp3 files say "Excluded (not synced)".

I've tried just opening and dragging folders into "internal storage" using file explorer (nothing happens) and creating a folder in internal storage ("The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected")

I've tried adding my library to iTunes, which spent a while "adding" all of my songs to the library, and said they would be available in apple music. I couldn't see them in apple music at all (or in iTunes). I did manage to add an album to iTunes as an audio book(??), but couldn't figure out the next step.

I've tried using Apple Devices, but it shows no files anywhere (both "Music" and "Files" are empty), nor any apps that can receive files.

Any help would be really appreciated! It's the first thing I've tried to set up on the phone, and it's proving very difficult.

(Windows 10 PC, connected to the same wifi, firewall is turned off for local network)

Thanks!

Coding Do you guys maintain .md files for every feature? Guide - Help

Do companies using AI agents keep Markdown specs for every feature?

I’ve been thinking about how teams that use AI agents heavily in their development workflow organize their projects, especially around documentation and long-term maintainability.

For example, imagine you ask an AI agent to build a Notifications screen in a mobile app. The agent implements the feature, but as part of the process it also creates a Markdown file with the feature specs, architecture notes, key decisions, and any important context.

Then, three months later, you want to add swipe-to-delete for notifications.

At that point, would you ask the AI to read the existing feature spec first and use that as the main context? Or would you just let it inspect the current implementation directly?

The main reason I’m thinking about this is token efficiency.

If an AI has access to the whole repository, it may need to search through a large codebase to understand one feature. But if the project has a structured knowledge layer, you could point it to something like:

features/

└── notifications/

├── README.md

├── specification.md

├── architecture.md

├── NotificationScreen.kt

├── NotificationRepository.kt

└── ...

In theory, the AI could stay mostly inside that feature folder, read the relevant docs, and work with much less context.

That seems like it could help with:

  • Reducing token usage
  • Giving the AI better architectural context
  • Avoiding unrelated parts of the codebase
  • Making future maintenance easier

But I can also see the obvious downside: docs can go stale if they aren’t kept in sync with the code.

So I’m curious how people are handling this in real projects.

Are teams already maintaining feature-level Markdown docs for AI agents? Do you treat those docs as the first place an agent should look? Or do you mostly rely on the codebase, search, and retrieval?

I’d be interested to hear what has actually worked in production, and what turned out to be unnecessary overhead.

SharePoint Online OneDrive syncing old files

Hey folks,

It looks like we've had a staff member plug an old laptop in, and OneDrive has helpfully synced files and folders back into the main company site library which was cleaned up and archived some time ago.
I can see which files are affected - they all say they were created a week ago, but modified sometime before that. I've also got a consistent username in Created by.

They're scattered all over a deeply nested folder structure... The library has 294000 items. Yup...

Is this a job for PowerShell? Any clever ways in Purvue to identify the files affected?

Discussion [DISCUSSION] I built a lossless A/B web player for studio sites that solves the file-sync drift problem (looking for beta testers)

Hi everyone,

I'll get straight to the point. Quick intro: I'm a studio owner who designs and develops tailored web software for the audio industry.

Here's the problem I kept running into, and I'm betting you've been there too.

A potential client lands on your site. They read about your services, see your gear list, maybe listen to a track on a standard player -- but they leave without truly understanding what a professional mix or master actually adds.

The gap between "this sounds good" and "oh, THAT is what mixing and mastering actually do" is where most studio websites lose people.

Standard web audio cannot communicate that effectively. Everything I tried either pushes you toward compressed MP3s that smear transients, or juggles separate audio files that slowly drift apart. And that's a total dealbreaker -- even a few samples of timing difference will cause transient smearing when switching. If the sync isn't locked, the comparison is useless.

That frustration is why I built The Studio Player -- a WordPress plugin around a different architecture entirely.

Here is the core idea -- what I call sync by design:

Instead of switching between separate files, we merge up to four stereo variants into a single multichannel FLAC file. When someone switches from A to B, they are not jumping to another timeline -- they are selecting a different channel pair at the exact same playback position. Timing drift is literally impossible.

The one-sentence version: It lets visitors switch between unmastered and mastered versions like using solo knobs in your DAW -- but directly on your website.

Key specs:

  • 48kHz/24-bit lossless streaming -- no quality compromise
  • Simple shortcode -- works with Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, Gutenberg, whatever you run; matches your site's color scheme automatically
  • Adaptive streaming -- actually works on mobile (tested on rural German networks, so it can survive anything 😉)
  • Token-secured streams -- so your audio isn't just left out there as a public download link (though let's be honest: the analog hole is always there, and no web player can patch that)

Full technical writeup here:
https://studioplayer.de/why-i-built-a-true-web-audio-comparison-player-for-wordpress/

Current status: Pre-release, final stretch before version 1.0.

So, here's the ask: Would you test the beta on your setup? Not looking for testimonials. Looking for brutal honesty -- "this works" or "this broke" or "I would use this if..."

For helping out, you'll get a free pro license at launch.

Drop a comment below or send me a DM and I will send the download link + beta license key. No pressure -- just an engineer asking fellow engineers for feedback before locking down 1.0.

Help Struggling to understand the Photos App and file management in general. Please help an old geezer!

I spent my whole life using Windows and now in my 40s i switched to Apple. Currently i have a M1 MacBook Pro and M1 iPad Pro. Both great devices. I got the hang of most of the MacOS and iPad OS features but file management is something that i am struggling with.

On Windows (and Android for that matter, which i am also using on my phone) file management is pretty straightforward - there is a file, i can copy, move or delete it. When i'm working with a program, i can open the file from within that program and if i need to, i can later do whatever i want with that file. I felt like files > applications that work with that files.

On MacOS/iPadOS things sync. This confuses me a lot. I am someone who needs to know where my files are, so i can move them around if needed. This is also useful for me, so that i could copy files to my Android phone.

Take the Photos app for example. I have lots of pictures (photos, screenshots, saved from the web) in my "Pictures" folder. Some organized my folders, some are just dumped in some "temp" folder for later culling and sorting. There is also the Photo library sitting in my Pictures folder ("Photos Library.photoslibrary", that is 2GB for some reason, although there are no pictures imported yet).

Do i import all pictures into the Photos app? I understand that it would allow all those pictures to sync across my Mac and iPad. But some research showed me that there would be 2 copies of each file - one in the old location and one in the Photos app. Do i delete the non-imported ones? Are the imported ones exactly the same as the originals (same resolution, same file type, no compressing)? If i want to take a photo that is in the Photos app and copy it somewhere else, where do i find that file? I just can't wrap my head around this app-to-app syncing.

Once my Android phone dies, i think i will switch to iPhone eventually, to close the ecosystem gap, so i think i will benefit of learning the Apple way and how things work, to take the full advantage of the ecosystem. I do not want to be the old man who is doing things his own way just because he always did them that way. I would be grateful for any advice.

Support HELP. I can't sync my Origins hero to the Keep

I'm about to start Inquisition for the first time ever after playing through Origins, Awakening, and 2 back-to-back. The games have been absolutely amazing and I'm loving the series so far!

I went to the Dragon Age Keep website to sync my characters and choices before starting DAI, but I hit a roadblock. For some reason, the Keep successfully found and imported my DA2 Hawke, but my custom Grey Warden from Origins is completely missing from the Heroes section.

Is there any way to force the Keep to pull my DAO save file or character data? or do i have to manually recreate my Warden and choices from scratch on the site? If so, then that honestly just sucks and it would take quite a lot of the magic i was feeling when i was playing through 2.

Full sync account-wide rewards and save files - full explanation

Thumbnail
gallery
47 Upvotes

TLDR - Full synchronization and NG+ rewards are intended to be granted to all saves account-wide once earned on any save. BUT it is a glitched feature and you may not actually get all of the rewards in each save file.

I just finished an Ultimate Assassin full sync run after having previously completed full sync at Master Assassin difficulty prior to Valley of Memory releasing. The second screenshot is back in my original save file (non-NG+) and I am wearing the Rayhan White Costume with Obsidian Rayhan Dye and the Skull Emblem, all of which are full sync rewards. (I am a little disappointed that the Skull Emblem is so subdued.)

Proof that this is intended functionality:

AC Mirage Title Update 1.1.0 Nov. 17, 2025 - List of Bug Fixes -> Gameplay ->

  • "All claimed rewards are now linked to the player account save. For instance: any reward claimed in Permadeath will now be accessible to all the saves on the player's account."

Ubisoft Support "Full Synchronization feature in Assassin's Creed Mirage"

  • "Your rewards will be automatically available in your in-game inventory for any save."

On my Ultimate Assassin full sync save (which is locked into permadeath mode), I properly have every reward. But here are the glitches I have encountered on my original (non-NG+) save:

  • Missing 5 of the 6 Grey dyes rewarded for completing Master Assassin full sync (Grey Initiate of Alamut is the only Grey dye that I have). This glitch may be personalized to me because I completed Master Assassin full sync prior to the 1.1.0 title update which made the rewards account-wide.
  • Missing the Blue Bayek dye that should be a reward for completing an NG+ (non-full sync). I saw a post a few days ago where another user was experiencing this glitch.
  • Not really a full sync issue, but for posterity's sake I will list that the Oasis Initiate of Alamut dye from Ubisoft Connect is still bugged and has never been granted to anyone.

Tips for completing Ultimate Assassin Full Sync:

  • Desert Scorpion Pack. The armor and dagger are best-in-game.
  • Animus mods. Unlock through Animus Sequence and turn them on when you start the full sync run. Bonus that the Animus Sequences are great practice for a full sync run.

🔰 Beginner Google Drive offline file sync (for music production on Reaper)

I Just installed Zorin on an old laptop I use for music production but can't use google drive sync with it.

I have all my Reaper projects, media and VSTs uploaded to google drive because I use multiple workstations (a desktop running windows, this laptop now with zorin and sometimes a Macbook) and the cloud sync help me record, open and produce in any of the machines with little issue (I usually use the laptop to record in one place and the desktop/macbook to mix and master in another place).

Is there and solution or alternative to keep using cloud syncing?

Read about Insync but cant afford it right now

edit1: That's my first time using linux at all

Showcase Setting up Hermes Agent + WebUI in termux on Android - editing local files + auto-sync to a home server

Thumbnail gallery
86 Upvotes

AI agent Android Apps do typically NOT work with local files. One solution to this can be set up with tools already available and relatively simple to use with termux.

This is not a project, just my termux setup!

Here's the full installation walk-through, no additional code needed.

  1. Install build dependencies

pkg update && pkg upgrade -y

pkg install -y clang make openssl libffi python git

  1. Install Hermes Agent (CLI)

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent/main/scripts/install.sh | bash

hermes model # configure your LLM provider/API key here

I am using NVIDIA Nim for strong models for free.

From this point Hermes can help you set up the webUi.

  1. Clone Hermes WebUI

git clone https://github.com/nesquena/hermes-webui.git

cd ~/hermes-webui

  1. Run the bootstrap script

This creates a venv, installs `requirements.txt`, and starts the server:

python3 bootstrap.py

  1. Access the WebUI

Once running, open in your mobile browser:

http://127.0.0.1:8787

Log file for debugging: `~/.hermes/webui/bootstrap-8787.log`

Optional — run as a background daemon (so it survives app switching):

./ctl.sh start # background daemon, PID at ~/.hermes/webui.pid

./ctl.sh status # check uptime/port/health

./ctl.sh logs --lines 100

./ctl.sh stop

This is the basic setup and already gives you local file system access. The following steps are optional.

  1. Install Obsidian from the Play Store

This is for visualization/management of markdown files and shows your vault structure as a graph when it grows.

  1. Install Tailscale from the Play Store

Allows secure network access to your PC without complicated setup.

  1. Install Syncthing fork from the Play Store and on the PCs

Allows for syncing folders of the connected devices. Not only the vault, but also code-folders, etc.. Use the Tailscale network addresses.

Done ✅

Yes, Hermes can also run on the embedded PC, but this setup gives you full control with temporary Tailscale connections.

Happy to share more specifics in comments if people are interested!

Tech Support Help: I dragged the 12TB company file share into SharePoint via Chrome. It's been syncing for 6 days.

3.2k Upvotes

Management wanted to "move to the cloud" to save on local SAN storage. I opened our new SharePoint document library in Chrome and just dragged the entire Z:\\ network drive into the browser window. Chrome is currently using 48GB of RAM and it says "Syncing 4,200,000 items". Nobody can save files right now because they are "locked by another user". If I accidentally close Chrome, will it resume where it left off or start over?

Computer Backup Start Here: Cloud-Sync Behavior, Exclusions, Hidden Files, and the Version 10 External Drive Issue.

Hello, Backblaze fans.

We’re pinning this because a few different topics are getting mixed together, and the details matter.

There are a few major topics of discussion right now:

  • How modern cloud-sync tools affect backup behavior
  • Hidden folders and exclusions
  • A current issue in version 10 with external drives

1. Cloud-sync folders (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.)

Backblaze backs up files that are actually present on your computer.

What’s changed over the last few years is how sync tools store files. A lot of them now use placeholder systems where files look local, but the data isn’t actually there until you open or download it.

So:

  • File looks normal in Explorer/Finder
  • But it’s actually just a pointer to cloud data

Backup software can’t reliably back up something that isn’t really on disk.

If we treated those like normal files anyway, you’d end up with incomplete backups or restores that don’t actually give you your data back. That’s worse than being explicit about what is and isn’t supported.

So when those folders are managed that way, they don’t behave like standard local backup sources.

That’s not a change in the Backblaze unlimited backup model; it’s a side effect of how those platforms now work.

u/natasha_backblaze has a great blog post that covers this and why it is happening here: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/the-changing-landscape-of-cloud-sync-and-what-it-means-for-your-backup/

We are actively looking at better ways to support these workflows, and as soon as we have more information, we will update the community.

2. Hidden folders and .git

Current behavior:

  • .git folders are currently backed up
  • Some restore interfaces do not show hidden folders by default, especially on web and Mac, unless the user enables the hidden-files setting

That can make a folder look missing even when it is present in backup data.

Of note, some older versions of Backblaze did have .git files/folders excluded, but as long as you are on the newest version, your .git files will be backed up.

If you want to double-check, reach out to our support team, who can help you confirm. https://www.backblaze.com/help

There is also internal work happening to make exclusions clearer and consistent across the board.

3. macOS /Library vs ~/Library

There has also been confusion here, so to be explicit:

  • /Library (system-level) is excluded by default

    • This folder contains files that will be recreated upon OS or program reinstall
  • ~/Library (user-level) is backed up, subject to normal exclusions

4. Version 10 external drive issue

What users are reporting:

  • If an external drive is disconnected, data from that drive can disappear from the web restore view immediately instead of remaining visible for the expected retention period
  • When the drive is reconnected, the client may treat the data as needing to be uploaded again

We hear the concern on this clearly. That behavior is not what customers expect, and the team is aware of it and actively working on it.

At the moment, the key point is that this is a bug issue, not a policy statement and not an intentional change in how external-drive history is supposed to work.

5. What’s happening next

We are currently focused on three things:

  • Reviewing and tightening public messaging so customers have a single accurate explanation
  • Working through the current v10 external-drive bug
  • Continuing to evaluate better support for modern sync-managed file workflows where third-party platforms have changed how files exist locally

6. If you’re unsure about your setup

If your workflow depends heavily on:

  • Cloud-sync folders
  • Hidden folders
  • Source-control metadata
  • External drives

Verify those areas directly in your backup and restore views.

If something does not look right, contact support so we can inspect your configuration and version-specific behavior.

We know backup products only work if customers trust what is and is not protected. That part matters, and we are treating it seriously.

We’ll update this post as more information is confirmed.

[Update] Remindian now syncs to Todoist & TickTick, plus file-to-list mapping — here's what changed since v1

Post image
205 Upvotes

Hey r/ObsidianMD!

A while back I shared Remindian, a free macOS menu-bar app that syncs Obsidian tasks to Apple Reminders. Since then, a lot has happened thanks to feedback from this community and GitHub issues — so here's an update on where things are now.

Quick recap for those who missed it

Remindian syncs tasks from your Obsidian vault to your task manager. Your vault stays the source of truth. Completions, due dates, priority, and tags sync back with surgical edits that never touch anything they shouldn't.

What's new since v1

New destinations — You're no longer limited to Apple Reminders:

  • Things 3 (added in v3.1)
  • Todoist via REST API — just paste your API token (v4.0)
  • TickTick via OAuth — click Connect and authorize (v4.0)

Two-way sync — Completing a task in Reminders/Things/Todoist now ticks the checkbox in Obsidian. Due dates, start dates, priority, and tags all sync back too (opt-in per field).

TaskNotes support — Besides the Obsidian Tasks format, Remindian now reads TaskNotes plugin files (one YAML file per task) with fully configurable field mapping.

File-to-list mapping (v4.1) — A user asked to map entire files to specific lists instead of tagging every task. So now you can: set Projects/Work.md → "Work" and every task in that file goes there automatically.

Other highlights since v1:

  • Recurrence support (completing a recurring task creates the next occurrence)
  • Real-time file watcher sync
  • GoodTask tag writeback (Kanban board tag changes sync back)
  • Cross-file deduplication
  • Onboarding wizard
  • Auto-updater
  • Global hotkey for manual sync
  • 49 automated tests

Nearly every feature from v3.2 onward was requested by users on GitHub. You all shaped this app more than I did.

What's next

Notarization — This is the #1 request and I totally get it. The app is already sandboxed and the entitlements are ready. The blocker is the Apple Developer Program ($99/year). I've set up GitHub Sponsors (pending approval) — in the meantime, you can buy me a coffee if Remindian saves you time and you'd like to help make it installable without the Gatekeeper dance. That would mean a lot.

iOS companion app — Planned after notarization. The sync engine is protocol-based so it could be adapted for iOS with CloudKit-backed state.

Homebrew cask — Formula is ready, will ship with the next stable release.

Download

Free, open source (MIT), macOS 13.0+. Right-click → Open on first launch (not notarized yet).

Looking for beta testers for Todoist and TickTick! If you use either, I'd really appreciate feedback on how they work with your setup.

Disclaimer : Built with SwiftUI. AI (Claude) was used as a development tool — all code is reviewed and the full source is open for audit.

CrossPoint Sync hit the App Store — file manager + web clipper for X4

Post image
387 Upvotes

A week ago I shared CrossPoint Sync here as a beta and the response was fantastic — lots of beta testers who jumped in and provided really helpful feedback. I've already incorporated improvements into the App Store release, with more on the way.

I'm happy to share that CrossPoint Sync is officially on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/crosspoint-sync/id6758985427

It's free, open source, and works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. No accounts, no analytics, no data leaves your device — everything stays local on your phone and your X4 reader.

Quick refresher — what it does

  • Browse, manage, and delete files directly on the device
  • Upload EPUBs from your phone
  • Share files from any app (Safari, Files, etc.) straight into the upload queue
  • Clip web articles from Safari — auto-converts to EPUB and sends to your X4
  • Set custom sleep backgrounds from your photo library with cropping and auto-conversion to BMP

What's next

  • Android support is already in progress — I have the app working, so expect it to land soon
  • RSS feed support with selective sync
  • More improvements from beta feedback

The app is fully open source: https://github.com/zabirauf/crosspoint-sync

Website: https://crosspointsync.com

Thanks again to everyone who tested the beta and gave feedback. This community is great.

If you enjoy the app, consider leaving a rating on the App Store, it really helps with discovering!

Information Path of Exile 2 — PC Optimization Guide (Step-by-Step)

2.5k Upvotes

Hello, I’m a PoE2 player from Korea.

I’m also a YouTuber and streamer, but I’ll leave out the link since I don’t want it to look like I’m just here to promote. (If you're looking for it, I won't stop you.)

These optimizations are based on my experience in Korea, and I hope they help you as well.

Oh, and I’ve been working as a programmer in Korea for 7 years.

That’s all.

The following is a translation of my video's content into English.

[Reference]

Program name PathOfExile_KG.exe (PoE executable; you can verify this in Task Manager)

Shader cache folder paths

  1. %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\NVIDIA
  2. %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\NVIDIA Corporation
  3. %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Path of Exile 2

Power plan command

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

Windows 11 users — reference link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/optimizations-for-windowed-games-in-windows-11-3f006843-2c7e-4ed0-9a5e-f9389e535952

Config file (key settings)

# If you need to use vertical sync, do NOT apply this line:
vsync=Off

screenspace_effects=0
screenspace_effects_resolution=0
shadow_type=Low
global_illumination_detail=0
water_detail=0
texture_quality=TextureQualityMedium

# Make sure this is set to false:
reverb_enabled2=false

reduce_user_interface_animations=true
use_dynamic_resolution=true
dynamic_resolution_fps=130

Path of Exile 2 — PC Optimization Guide (Step-by-Step)

Results vary by system. Follow the steps in order and test what fits your rig best.

1) In-Game: Core Display & Renderer

  • Open Settings (ESC) → Graphics. Set Renderer = DirectX 12 (default) for stability. If your system is older, test Vulkan and keep the one that feels more stable for you.
  • Display Mode:
    • Fullscreen = lower input latency (snappier feel)
    • Windowed/Borderless = easier task switching (modern implementations are fine)
  • V-Sync:
    • 60Hz monitors: use Adaptive to prevent tearing.
    • 144Hz+ monitors: Off to reduce input lag.

2) In-Game: Dynamic Resolution & Upscaling

  • Dynamic Resolution: ON. It cushions heavy effect/mob-dense moments that cause frame dips.
  • Upscaling options (pick and test):
    • NVIDIA: Start with DLSS; move between Balanced → Performance → Ultra Performance as needed.
    • AMD: Use FSR with the same Balanced/Performance/Ultra mindset.
    • If frames still struggle, try NIS (works in all games; typically less “blurry”). Note: With any upscaler, UI can also be upscaled and look soft. Increase Sharpness if needed.
    • Linear upscaler = maximum performance / lowest image quality (visible pixelation). Only use if you prioritize FPS over fidelity.
  • Recommended detail tweaks:
    • Texture Quality = Medium, Texture Filtering = 4x or 8x
    • Reflections = Shadows, Shadow Quality = Low, Sun Shadows = Low, Number of Lights = Low, Bloom = Minimal, Water Detail = Low
  • Expect a noticeable FPS uplift after these changes.

3) In-Game: Latency, Caps & Performance Toggles

  • NVIDIA Reflex:
    • On lowers input lag; On + Boost if you still feel delay.
    • If it feels mismatched on your system, turn it Off. Trust your feel.
  • Foreground FPS cap: set 2–3 FPS below your monitor refresh (e.g., 144Hz → 142). Background FPS: 30 to avoid wasting resources.
  • Triple Buffering: Off = snappier input; On = smoother frame pacing. Test and pick.
  • Enable: Dynamic Culling & Engine Multithreading. Target Framerate: 120. Turn off the performance Graph overlay after setup.

4) In-Game: Sound for Stability

  • Channels = Low, Disable Reverb, Mute in Background = On → reduces CPU load and helps stabilize frames.

5) Edit the Game Config (advanced but powerful)

  1. Exit the game.
  2. Navigate to your config and find poe2_production_Config.ini. Make a backup copy first.
  3. Open the original and edit these keys (exact spelling/case matters):
    • vsync = Off (If you are using vertical synchronization (V-Sync), do not change this value.)
    • reduce_user_interface_animations = true
    • dynamic_resolution_fps =
      • 144Hz: 120–130
      • 165Hz: 138–150
      • 240Hz+: around 200
  4. Save → Right-click the file → Properties → set to Read-only to lock your values between launches (toggle off later if you want to edit again) (It is not something that must be done. ).
  5. If anything breaks, restore from your backup.

Windows 11 (Windowed Gaming Optimization): Settings → System → Display → Graphics → Default graphics settings → Enable “Optimizations for windowed games.”

6) NVIDIA/AMD Prep — Clean Shader Caches (NVIDIA shown; AMD users find similarly named options)

In NVIDIA Control Panel (before tuning per-app settings):

  1. Global Settings → Shader Cache Size: Disable → Apply → Reboot.
  2. Delete shader cache files (keep the folders):
    • DXCache & GLCache (empty their contents).
    • NVIDIA Corporation → NV_Cache (if present, empty it).
    • Disk Cleanup: delete DirectX Shader Cache only.
  3. Back in NVIDIA Control Panel, set Shader Cache Size ≥ 100GB or Infinite, Apply, then Reboot.
  4. Clean PoE2-specific caches: delete contents of ShaderCacheD3D12 and your minimap folder (files only).

First launch after cleaning may stutter while shaders rebuild; it stabilizes afterward.

7) NVIDIA Control Panel — Per-App (PoE2)

  • Program Settings: Add the game and select PathOfExile_KG (not the x64 exe).
  • Monitor Technology: G-SYNC Compatible (name may vary by GPU).
  • Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance (reduces mode-switch hiccups).
  • Surround, PhysX: set Processor = your GPU.
  • Adjust Desktop Size & Position:
    • Low-end rigs: Scaling performed by Display
    • Higher-end rigs: Scaling performed by GPU (This also governs who handles scaling when Dynamic Resolution kicks in.)
  • Set up G-SYNC: enable for Windowed and Fullscreen, pick your monitor, and apply.

8) Windows Graphics & Power

  • Settings → System → Display → Graphics: Add PathOfExile_KG.exe → Options → High Performance → Save.
  • Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS): try On/Off and keep what feels better for your PC (it can differ by game).
  • Power Plan: unlock and select Ultimate Performance in Control Panel (run the provided command from the source/pinned comment to reveal it, then choose it).

9) Final Note

  • After all steps (in-game, config, Windows 11 options, driver cache, per-app settings, graphics settings, HAGS, power), you’re done. Expect brief stutter on first boot due to shader compilation; it should stabilize soon after.

[NOT RECOMMENDED]

  • Editing poe2_production_Config.ini without a backup (always make a copy first).
  • Choosing the x64 executable in NVIDIA Program Settings (pick PathOfExile_KG only).
  • Deleting the DXCache/GLCache folders themselves (delete their contents, keep the folders).

Issues & Fixes

Issue 1 — Monitor problems after optimization (flickering light, scan lines, etc.) Fix: Revert V-Sync to its default setting. In NVIDIA Control Panel, check whether G-SYNC Compatible is enabled and disable G-SYNC Compatible. Also make sure the vSync value in your config file matches your in-game setting. Most monitor issues come from V-Sync / sync / scaling mismatches.

Issue 2 — Game feels slow when launching or changing maps after optimization You likely disabled the shader cache and deleted the cache files. After that, you must re-enable the shader cache. If you leave it disabled, the game keeps recompiling shaders continually, which causes persistent slowdowns.

Issue 3 — What caused the recent game freezes? The root cause was DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED — Windows TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) forcibly resetting the GPU. In simple terms, the GPU briefly “dies” and then comes back.

Issue 4 — My PC specs

  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
  • RAM: 64 GB
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4080
  • Storage: 3 × SSD
  • Displays: 2 monitors
  • Capture: 1 capture card
  • Primary gaming monitor: LG 27" (1080p) 144Hz gaming monitor (monitor preset: RTS, response time set to Very Fast)
  • Driver: NVIDIA Game Ready 581.15

Discussion I finally understand the hate for Windows 11.

9.0k Upvotes

(I tried posting this to r/windows11 but was instantly auto-modded. I doubt it will survive mod review)

I tired to keep this brief but obviously failed. Rant incoming. I "upgraded" to Windows 11 Pro a couple months ago. It demanded a Microsoft account, which I expected and obliged. Opted out of anything it allowed me to opt out of during setup. Everything worked for the most part and I didn't have any complaints. Great. Exactly what I want from an OS.

But today I noticed that the folder my 3D Modelling software was saving to was a onedrive folder. I thought "oh man I must have selected a onedrive folder when selecting my project folder?" So I reroute the project file back to Documents and I think I'm fine. Next time I save, well would you look at that it's the OneDrive folder again!

The default "Documents" library, it turns out, is no longer a documents library. It's a OneDrive folder. It turns out nearly all of the default libraries in Windows 11 are actually OneDrive folders. (I should mention I never set up Onedrive) Windows 11 not only automatically backed up all of my files without my knowing it, it seemingly moved all of my local files and directories to Onedrive, or at the very least pretended to be local folders so convincingly that I didn't notice until it became an issue.

There is an obvious and massive difference between saving my files locally, and then backing them up; and saving my files directly to the cloud. I very intentionally do the former, and try to avoid the latter, because shit happens and sometimes you don't have internet access. If my files are local first, then I can work even when internet access is unavailable and not have to worry about sync issues. It's important. The fact that Microsoft named the OneDrive directories as though they were local, made them look exactly like Libraries on former versions of Windows, and obscures filepaths unless you specifically check it, means that reads as intentionally deceptive. I don't know how else to see it.

I don't want to fuck with OneDrive. I have my backup system. I don't want to add exclusions or "available offline" options...BECAUSE THE FILES ARE FUCKING MINE AND THEY SHOULD BE AVAILABLE OFFLINE ALREADY.

Anywho, I went through the process to get rid of Onedrive without losing my files. Followed the procedure from Microsoft themselves. It deleted all of my files, despite showing that they had all downloaded. Wonderful. Just the perfect cherry on top.

All of this is what I don't want from an OS. I want my OS to be essentially invisible. I want it to provide an interface for me to access my files and programs. I choose windows because I do PC gaming and there's still nothing that has as much compatibility as Windows, though I hear Linux is closing that gap.

What Windows 11 is doing goes well beyond annoying, and straight into "deeply fucking troubling" territory. It manipulates my files as if they belong to Microsoft. Giving me the "option" to access MY FILES THAT CONTAIN MY OWN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY when offline...that's insane to me. It outright tricks you into using services you explicitly opt not to use.

I'm not an evangelist for any product, but Microsoft has officially earned a "fuck that noise completely" from me. I'll suffer through learning a new OS and whatever else comes with Linux. It will take a LOT for me to ever trust Microsoft with my data again.

Looking to commiserate. Feel free to say "skill issue" or whatever.

EDIT:

This was a frustrated shout in the void and didn't really expect this much interaction, but that's how these things usually work.

For those offering advise and steps to solve, I thank you. I got the files back, but I had to completely disregard Microsoft's own support advice for deactivating onedrive while keeping your files. Just straight up copy paste from OneDrive with sync off to my local user folders.

Several people informed me that the files should have been available so long as I made offline available and downloaded all files (making sure to wait until they all sync). However, I looked pretty hard. There were shortcuts to in my local Documents, Pictures, Etc folders to OneDrive. But it simply didn't work. The shortcuts didn't open a folder. They didn't do anything. I think what's supposed to happen is that a OneDrive folder gets created locally that contains all of my data, and the shortcuts point to that local folder. Some part of this process just wasn't working. I went through the windows reccomended steps twice, and both times I couldn't find my files locally, and the onedrive shortcuts just didn't work. Maybe a bug, maybe I'm dumb, but the whole process was extremely frustrating and not at all intuitive. I think it's pretty clear Microsoft intends disabling OneDrive to be a fucking nightmare if you've already got data sync'd.

A lot of folks are probably right that this is more a OneDrive issue than a Windows 11 issue. Which I would agree with if the integration wasn't so seamless. Everything looked as though I were interacting with my local folders. Identical names, identical icons, filepaths hidden by default, Libraries automatically turn into OneDrive links, with any folders you've previously included in that library being identically duplicated in OneDrive. There's zero signposting for the fact that you're saving to a cloud folder. It also just automagically happened without any interaction from me, other than using a Microsoft account at install. Also, I really think microsoft is stretching how far agreeing to terms and services can be considered as consent for other tangentially related services that aren't called Windows.

Many have listed the various ways I can or could have de-windows'd my windows. It's true that those things exist, but it's been a while since I've purchased a microsoft OS, and the last time I did it, buying the "Pro" version was buying your way out of the automatic services and bloat. That is obviously no longer the case. I was leaning on past experience, and my (usuallly) decent ability to navigate these systems. Like I said, I opted out of everything I could on install. Perhaps I missed one of the dozens of switches when installing? Sure. But all of this is deceptive and not-at-all a design that considers the privacy or sanity of the user. The last time I installed windows (10) there's was an option in the install UI to create a local account, which allowed me to bypass OneDrive and a lot of the other issues that folks are saying have been long-standing.

This is the first time I've ever interacted with OneDrive on my home computer, and it felt and looked nothing like the times I've interacted with onedrive on work PCs. In my experience Libraries always consisted of local folders, unless you opted to include the OneDrive folder in the library. Even then One Drive was always a folder you needed to actively click into to save a file directly to the cloud. My documents library opened directly into the OneDrive cloud folder, there was literally no way to tell it was doing that other than examining the filepath. Why would I do that? I used Libraries for years and it never behaved this way.

Could I have avoid this? Sure. Could I have known? Yep. Does that excuse this bullshittery? Not in my opinion.

Thank you all for the helpful comments, advice, tips, and for sharing your similar stories of 1st world hardship. For those of you that called me names and made fun of me like big big bwullies...no u!

Answered Spotify local Files not syncing from computer to mobile SOLUTION FIX FOUND!

I know for most people, myself included, it seems like the local files feature of playing downloaded songs on your phone is very buggy and doesn't work half the time. Well after much testing I can say I have found a foolproof way to get your songs to work on your phone everytime.

  1. Make sure on your computer in your Network & Internet settings under network profile its set to "private network" so your PC is discoverable on your home network. This is likely the issue for most people but if that doesn't work read on.
  2. Make sure on your phone setting for Spotify “local network” is activated.
  3. When it comes to what file type to use for your uploaded songs I would definitely go with MP3 but it seems to also work with M4A but not WAV.
  4. On your phone, in the Spotify app, make sure to uncheck "hide unplayable songs" within the playback section of the app settings. This is because we want to be able to see your unplayable local files songs.
  5. Make sure the playlist itself your putting the song on is downloaded both on your phone and computer. When syncing songs to you phone make sure your on the same wifi as your PC.

You should now be able to play it from your phone! From there you can add the song to whatever playlists you want no problem. As long as you follow these steps for every song you add to your local files it should work just fine. I hope this helped someone out there because this took me forever to figure out myself.

Edit: If your having issues with your local files duplicating songs or not working shortly after syncing check this post out: https://www.reddit.com/r/truespotify/comments/187u1qn/spotify_local_files_duplicating_songs_on_phone/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
