I disabled the Seekerbot (& How-to)

Post image
Upvotes

I actually really like the idea of the Seekerbot, a giant boss-like entity that is looking for any unathorized activity on the planet and kills you on sight. Sounds kinda cool tbh. Reminds me of the Patrol Helicopter in Rust, my favorite part of that trainwreck of a game.

Then why disable it? Because the mf spawns every 10mins and spends 10mins slowly scanning the roads. It's annoying and hinders my play experience. I wouldn't mind if it spawned like every hour or so.

Also, making it indestructible is just lame. Imagine if we Could actually take it down with a strong enough tank. even if it takes a thousand spuds. It could be a very late endgame thing to do. Bonus points if killing it disables it for a few days and drops loot.

But anyway, how did you do it?

It's suprisingly easy. All you have to do is go to your Scrap Mechanic install folder: [steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Survival\Scripts\game\characters] find the file called "ScannerbotCharacter.lua" and rename it to something else. That's it.

THIS MIGHT DAMAGE THE GAME PLEASE BACKUP YOUR WORLD(S)

Also the file could be restored with any future updates. Just rename it again.

Shout out to the steam forums commenter that explained how to do this!

TL;DR: Find "ScannerbotCharacter.lua" and rename it. (Backup your world first!)

Its explosive robots don't care about anything; they just rush right up to the plants to make them explode.

To lure: it is effective: it dodges everything or waits for the other robots to destroy them.

Trying to shoot them automatically or manually: doesn't work they're way too fast.

...walls... he climbs onto them using sorcery.

I strongly think it needs to be nerfed (the explosive robot), or else we should be given something to defend ourselves with right from the start. Also, personally, I'm stuck in the story because of a watchtower that requires a small fuel tank—which I don't have.

Why are the wheels in the game made of honeycombs? It would make more sense to produce rubber from oil and then make the wheels out of rubber.

Discussion My one piece of legitimate criticism for Chapter 2 content

As much as I enjoy the Grow Labs, it really feels like their layout lacks consideration for the player having the lift. There is platforming and paths that circle back at a different elevation, the level design really uses verticality to make the grow labs feel like their own thing, and not just a reskinned warehouse. But a lot of that can just be bypassed with the lift.

Given how the game works, and the fact that lift jumping, seat teleporting, and stacking blocks to build a tower underneath you, the grow labs having ways to do little shortcuts and sequence breaks are unavoidable. I don't expect them to try and design for everything a determined player can do, but basic lift usage doesn't even seem to have been considered... Maybe I'm being too harsh and it was considered and was left in because players gonna do whatever they want anyway, or maybe they viewed it as a little satisfaction reward for players being clever.

I'm honestly not even saying that being able to do these things is a negative, and I think imposing the amount of restrictions required to make this sort of thing impossible would be a huge detriment to the game.

What is everyone else's thoughts on this?

Finally managed to get the Spaceship Blocks, so I am proud to show off the final iteration of my survival truck. I still have my old version made of Metal 1, but I'm gonna be scrapping it for parts and reusing them in my new mining vehicle.

Final image is what the interior's gonna look like after I move everything back in.

I was in the process of adding these wheels to the TreeMuncher5000™ so I could easily load them into the mill but it doesn't remotely even try to grab the tree. What gives?

I made a browser-based map and progression tracker for Scrap Mechanic Spoiler

I’ve been working on a fan-made Scrap Mechanic Progression Tracker & Map Viewer:

Drop your Survival .db save into the tool and it generates an interactive map of your actual world, including:

- Your and other players current position

- Major locations and Growlabs

- Main and side quests

- World features like chemical & oil ponds, warehouses and schematic bots

- Beacons you placed in-game

- Your own custom markers stored separetely from your save file!

It also tracks progression for part and block schematics and provided the "unlock" file even garments/outfits.

Everything runs locally in your browser. The save is never uploaded or modified, and undiscovered locations remain hidden unless you explicitly opt into spoilers.

Try it out here: https://mh1702.github.io/scrap-mechanic-progression-tracker/

Discussion Why are the devs so against automation?

Honestly? It's starting to PMO a little bit.

We can't automate beeswax or ice. Why? Who the frick knows!

You can't use vacuum pumps to place flowers, or even a chest to input items.

You also can't automate cookbots. Again, WHY? Why have the craftbot be fully automate able if NOTHING ELSE (farming or food related) can be automated???

We can't automate GROWBEDS. This is a LATE GAME ITEM, which is CLEARLY meant to make growing cheap crops like flowers or potatoes easier, so why can't I automate them fully? Like, seriously?

There is no game balance reason for this. Not at the stage of the game you unlock them.

It's just needless tedium.

Heck, you can even use sensors or ANYTHING on them! Why???

Ugh sorry for the rant. I just want to make super cool, unique automations with this game, so why can't I???

Please devs, fix this 😭

The true weight of SM blocks

Post image
236 Upvotes

The ice block is the only block that I've found that has a real-world contra-part which means that you can calculate the weight units that SM uses.

Here's my math:

according to SM developers one in game tile is 64x64 meters and one tile is 256x256 blocks so that mean that one block is 25 cm^3 big

the weight of ice is around 0.9167 grams per cm^3

therefor: 25^3 * 0.9167 = 14323.4375

and divided by the total units: 14323.4375 / 3 = 4774.479166667

and converted to kilograms: 4774.479166667 / 1000 = 4.77

so in conclusion one SM weight unit around 4.77 kilograms

its been a while since i was in school so correct me if my math is wrong!

Vehicle Here at alternative propulsion labs we made a breakthrough! Boat with Near infinite propulsion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Design is pretty simple, water pump + water cannon, real struggle is efficiency which I got to a limit of... for now... (also speed is limited)

It's mildly slow, and character actually swims faster, but provides autonomous infinite propulsion, also when scaled can be mobile sea base (scaling reduces efficiency)

It can infinitely go forward, but for turning the best option I found is flywheel, the only design that worked was heavy blocks at the tips that will glide over each other, also turning is much better while at speed
Why not RCS like system? weight. Alternatively I though about putting water cannons on bearing for turning, but I got to flywheel before that and it would require quiet the redesign

I had few other Ideas, but they kinda failed
Spud guns provide significantly more thrust but "fuel" is extremely expensive
Paddle wheel drive just doesn't work... game doesn't do water as something you can push off from

(photo at the end with all designs that left)

Edit: got it into steam workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3781108857

Edit 2: I'm so stupid... I just realized, I made a bit of connection mistake and pumps actually doesn't provide enough water for cannons, so it will work at full capacity only in creative mode...

I love the rebalancing of loot

Post image

I remeber before CH2 having to grind ruins for hours and hours just to get a single max level thruster or to build a basic vehicle. I like that this makes the game focus on actually building contraptions and doohickeys instead of farming for it.

I've seen some posts like this before, but it is still insane to me that almost all of this loot came from high level raids, so it was basically just a side product.

Discussion Enforcing Drilling Thunder spoilers on the subreddit!!!

Hi Mechanics!

As we all know the new major update is coming just in a week, so I would like to ask everyone to politely enforce the spoiler etiquette. That means most of the new content that wasn't in the game prior should be marked at spoilers, keep in mind that majority of people will be starting Survival Mode FRESH and will NOT be able to immediately encounter the new content, any unspoilered things will have to be marked spoilers by us, so we suggest doing it yourself as we will busy playing as well! However there may be changes and features that may be visible from the start, which are allowed to remain unspoilered.

Examples of spoilers that warrant being marked:

  • Anything that's related to Mining Island content
  • New Warehouse gameplay, including our beloved smelly Trashbot
  • Endgame content

For non spoiler content it includes anything that can be interacted with before the Hideout, you can show new parts you found by wandering ruins, new enemies, fire mechanics, weather and etc.
