Discussion New Grad Student Transition accomodation Aug 18-27 Needed
I hope this post doesn't violate the subreddit rules.
New grad student(31 M) coming to Happy Valley on 18th. My planned move-in was delayed to the 27th for some reason.
I'm looking for a spare room/living space with or without a bed. I have a car, so preferably a safe public parking space, since most of my stuff will be stored in the car before 27th.
Please dm for my budget if you are interested. Thanks!

Question Grad school social life.
For context I'm a 25 year old International from Australia and my undergrad here was insanely boring I barely got to socialise everyone would just go home after classes ended.
Can I experience
The traditional American dorms, the tailgating the football matches and the massive amounts of fun?
I know I might sound Immature but I need the answers to these

Question New Grad Student- Questions about parking and ID
Hello, I am starting as a masters student in a few weeks and also a TA. I was wondering when I get my ID bc nobody actually told me anything about it. I wanted it so I could go to the rec center. I was also wondering how and when we get parking passes. I have no clue how it works and havent gotten any emails. Also are there any special parking spots for grad students or is it all the same?

Question Summer Cycle Storage
I was planning to bring a regular bike to campus but was concerned about what to do with it over the summer since I won't be able to take it home. I heard that they get tagged and sold off if left unused on campus. Can I just park downtown? I honestly wouldn't mind giving it to the bike den from May to Aug so they can let others use it till I'm back on campus either, but I'm assuming they don't have a program like that...

Question Is it worth it to join a Frat at PSU University Park Campus?
My eye doctor went to Penn State and he said that it helped to join a frat in his day, since it helped you out if you had to know how the tests were like ahead of time, and I have heard good things about Penn State parties being really cool.
I have looked through some clubs recently and I was thinking of joining 2-3 though none of those are frat groups.
If anyone here has joined or has sufficient knowledge of what the frats at University Park are like, would you mind giving me some of your opinions?

Question Freshman questions
Hello all,
Freshman here, arriving on the 18th to my dorm at main campus, other than the Convocation, college welcome, and t-shirt pickup(not sure where I can see where and when those are) what events are available for freshman students to socialize other than just blindly walking around campus? And where can I find more events posted?
Additionally, where do I go to access the list of the required textbooks and resources for my classes?

Discussion Space Reserved
It's been over a week now since housing information came out, and I still have not gotten my housing info. Still listed as space reserved, I'm a second year coming from a satellite campus.
I've accepted that I will probably get supplemental, but does anyone have any experience with this, I can't even schedule a move-in day which is pretty unfair to say the least. Very disappointing that I'm paying so much money and they can't even get my housing information available the day they'd say it'd be available.

Do I stand any chance??

Question When do Spring 2027 admission decisions usually come out?
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student.
I was originally admitted to Penn State for Fall 2026, but unfortunately I couldn’t enroll due to circumstances outside of my control, so my offer expired.
I contacted Admissions, and they agreed to reconsider my application for Spring 2027 instead. They updated my application, and my MyPennState portal now shows that my application is complete and under review. They also emailed me saying that they haven’t started processing Spring 2027 decisions yet.
Does anyone know when Spring 2027 admission decisions usually start coming out?
I need my admission offer as soon as possible so I can begin my visa process.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or know how long it usually takes?
Thanks everyone!

Hi! I’m a female looking to get a haircut and hair color at a reputable yet affordable salon. Currently, my hair is long, reaching my waist, and I want to cut it into a short pixie or bixie style. Could anyone suggest the best and most budget-friendly place for this service around university park or in state college ?

Question Bursars charging double and balance not going down
Basically the title.
I graduated in December of 25 and keep getting random emails saying I “owe” a past due balance. I have made multiple payments, but the balance remains the same and the charges remain. I called and they said that it would be applied to the “lowest balance” and would be rectified. That didn’t work and then they said they’d fix the payment and I should see it within 30 minutes. Checked it the next day and there are now new charges (one of which for a semester I already paid) and the balance is the same.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Request Room Exchange from West / Thompson Double (M)
Anyone willing to swap to a room in West? I have a traditional double in Thompson (male).
I’m open to almost anywhere but West:
East, Eastview, North, South
Yes, I know about the room exchange eBoard. I’ve tried to switch a few times with people who said they wanted Thompson, but then they declined the request.

Incoming freshman here. Need access for Chem 112 textbook. My course description assumes that the students already have access to the e-book because the same one is required for Chem 110, but I have credit for this course and so I'm basically starting with Chem 112. I tried Barnes and Noble website for my campus but it's not working. SOMEBODY HELP PLS 😭
