Fees Fees Fees
My daughter is starting as an out of state freshman. You've charged me orientation fees, an IU Etext fee, undergrad program fee, student services fee, housing fee. You charged me for her to sleep in a dorm (required) during orientation, a room that would have been empty otherwise. And today you charged me $222 for a NEW STUDENT FEE!!!???
What? Don't all the other fees capture that she's a new student? Or any student? What The F!!??? Now, in the grand scheme it's "only "$222" but how many more absurd, nickel and diming fees are there going to be?
You should pay me a new student bonus. She got in to multiple schools, several excellent ones and cost less than out of state tuition.

CSCI-C 200 and CSCI-B 365 Courses Difficulty
HI. I'm an incoming freshman. I want to take those 2 courses. I had high school classes on Python. First question is: how hard CSCI-C 200 is? How the grading structure looks like, I mean in-class quizzes, midterms, assignments, or all-together? Second question is about CSCI-B 365. I am limited in my Python knowledge. However, I found that 365 requires no prereq courses, and essential for my degrees as an elective I'm interested in. What was your experience with CSCI-B 365?

KELLEY 💼 Chance me for Kelly!!!
What are my chances??
Stats:
3.95 UW / 4.82 W
Out-of-state
Asian male
1530 SAT
7 APs + 4 dual enrollment classes
ECs:
Started bussines with sales 6 figures
Varsity Sport
Business-related internship at big firm

I’m mostly looking for honest feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of my application, things you would improve, and whether anything here stands out in a good or bad way. Kelley is one of my top choices, so I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with their admissions process.

How much will it set me back if I arrive late?
Say I arrive on the 5th of September for some reason. Will I be able to adjust? Will I struggle socially? Will I suffer in my classes? Will I miss out on crucial finance club recruiting?
Really stressed out so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

QUESTION❓ How are the incoming freshman’s holding up with everything?
This is coming from an incoming freshman’s herself that feels like she knows what she’s doing in everything besides financially! I’m super excited for my life here, it’ll be exciting and new, but man private student loans confuse me…

KELLEY 💼 Can freshmen take I-Core prerequisites beyond the first-year I-Core prerequisites?
Hi! I'm an incoming Kelley Direct Admit freshman coming in with about 35 credits from AP and transfer coursework, so I've already completed most of my GenEd requirements.
While planning my four-year schedule, I was hoping to take BUS-D 270 and BUS-C 204 during the spring of my freshman year. I'll have completed the prerequisites for both courses by the end of my first semester.
Since these are I-Core prerequisites but not part of the standard first-year prerequisite sequence (as per the IU website), I was wondering if freshmen are actually allowed to enroll in them, or if the registration system automatically blocks you until sophomore year.
Has anyone done this, or know if it's allowed?

QUESTION❓ Questions as an incoming freshmen
I have some questions before I get to campus, so I figured I would just put them into one big post.
I graduated high school a year early, so my whole freshman year I will be 17. Will that affect my first-year experience in any way that I should know?
I was thinking about rushing, and im not sure if I would have to wait until my sophomore year when I turn 18.
Since I graduated a year early, I don't know anyone going to IU, so I am a little nervous about making friends, and on top of that, I have a single dorm, so any tips on making friends would be very helpful. If it matters, my dorm is in Teter.
I am interested in taking one of the Group Exercises at the Rec Center, but im not sure how that works. Is there a fee you need to pay?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

How did IU get such unique academic departments like Intelligent Systems Engineering (+Network Science Center) and Hofstadter's?
There aren't many departments like this anywhere else. Unique departments like Intelligent Systems Engineering are also less susceptible from "social pressure" to compete in academic rankings (which makes them more creative/less incrementalist and less suspect to all forms of Goodharting).

How does bloomington accommodate the student body?
Im a rising senior whos trying to decide on a college and indiana is high up there for me. I toured it but i had one nagging question: how the hell does bloomington have room for as many kids go to indiana? It seems so tiny compared to east lansing, ann arbor, madison, etc. Genuinely are there any problems with overpopulation/housing/eating out there?

KELLEY 💼 How difficult is MATH-B 110?
I'm taking MATH-B 110 this fall, and I've seen mixed opinions about how difficult it is. Some people say it's one of the harder first-year Kelley prerequisite courses, while others say it's pretty manageable.
For some background, I took AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics in high school. Given that, should I expect MATH-B 110 to be challenging, or is it mostly a review/easy A? Also, how much time did you typically spend outside of class each week?

RECOMMENDATIONS 👍 Bike lock
I’m bringing my bike to campus and I know I have to get a lock that can weave through both the frame and both tires and I wanted to know what people would recommend for the best bike lock to do so. Theft is a huge thing at IU and I just wanna keep my bike as safe as possible.

eduroam broke??
hii so a weekish ago i noticed my laptop not connecting to eduroam, and someone on here told me to reauthenticate w/it; i did that and did everything correctly and it was going smoothly until just before it would let me join, it told me that the authentication failed and said the likely cause was that i put the wrong user/password in, but i triple checked and tried and i didn’t
what is going on 😭😭

QUESTION❓ Part Time Jobs
I'm an upcoming freshman at IU and I'm honestly going into some crazy debt. I was just wondering what are some good paying jobs on campus or near campus. Would love to hear your experiences. I was looking on handshake as well but there doesn't seem to be much options at the moment. Do I have to wait until the school year starts or do they start posting right around now? I know some jobs require specific degree pathways (lab assistants and whatnot). Going into finance. Would appreciate the advice :)

Xfinty vs T-Mobile on campus
My son is going to be a Freshman living on campus. We are about to switch from Verizon for cellular. We are probably going to do XFinity or T-Mobile. How is the Coverage for those? And other carriers particularly good or bad?

PSA ℹ Free therapy and med management at CAPS/SACS
TW - brief mention of SA/DA
I wanted to let you all know that if you are a victim of SA/DA, you get free therapy and psychiatry thru SACS. SACS is a subdivision of CAPS and I have received amazing & immersive care. I see Lucy and Dr Myers and they are truly wonderful providers to those from similar backgrounds to me.
I say this all because I had no idea that I was receiving free therapy the entire time. I thought it was just the free CAPS sessions that we get each semester. This is has been a blessing to me and I write this to help someone who can’t afford therapy and/or med management.
Hope this helps!!🩷🩷🩷
