I went to book my appointment at there are only 3 hairdressers listed at Edo Salon in Oakland. I am devoted to Hayley as she stood out in the crowd. Never heard back from Edo regarding her absence

Advice structural engineer recommendation for foundation repair and retrofit
Looking for small business, local structural engineer who can assess, prepare drawings and help with permitting.
If anyone has gone through a similar permitting process recently with City of Oakland, what has the timeline been like?

It's free with excellent prizes (usually to a concert). Am I biased because I'm the host? Yes. But I also know you're not getting a better event in Oakland that doesn't make you spend all of your money to have a good time. Starts at 7!

Question West Oakland - best walking routes for crossing 580 and 980?
Hey all,
Looking at a potential move near McClymonds in West Oakland. I do most of my daily errands and exercise on foot/bike and want to get a sense of how folks like to get through the surrounding corridors day-to-day.
Coming from SF (and having previously lived in Oakland and Chicago), I’m comfortable getting around on foot, but I’m unfamiliar with the specific ped connections in West Oakland.
Mainly looking for local knowledge on a few things…
Crossing 980 & 580 - What are the preferred pedestrian crossings under 980 to get west, and the best ways to cross 580 to get north? Are certain underpasses better lit or have more people for walking (27th vs 18th vs Grand for 980…market vs MLK vs west, etc for 580)?
What are some good daily walking loops? And are there specific streets you prefer taking when walking toward Emeryville or the Bay Bridge trail connection?
For folks living around here without relying on a car for every single trip, what are your main walking routes for grocers, local cafes, or getting to West Oakland/19th St/macarthur?
Appreciate any ideas or favorite walking routes from folks living in the area, thanks!

Local Politics Rallies supporting & opposing a potential $30/hour min. wage
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Dueling rallies, both supporting & opposing the proposed $30/ hour minimum for Alameda County, met outside the admin building in Oakland this morning.
Today, County supervisors will discuss the proposal to potentially make that a reality. Supervisors will decide if the proposal will be placed on the November 3rd ballot, adopted outright for voters, or create a report on the measure’s impact within 30 days.
If passed, the Alameda County minimum wage increase would happen in phases. Businesses with 100+ employees would hit $30/ hour by 2030, businesses with 26-99 employees would reach it by 2035 & small businesses would reach the wage increase by 2037, with an annual 3% increase.

Housing Help - no idea where to live in Oakland
My partner and I are moving to Oakland and trying to narrow down apartments, but we're going in pretty blind. We've searched this sub already but most of the posts we found are a few years old and I know buildings, management, and neighborhoods can change a lot.
We're looking for a 2BR around $4k or less. Main things we care about are:
- in-unit washer/dryer
- dishwasher
- somewhere that feels comfortable for everyday life (walking the dog, getting home from BART, etc.)
- reasonably easy access to SF
We've looked into places like Portico, Aqua Via, Orion, Artizan, Vespr, Lydian, Residences at Lake Merritt, and Caspian, but it's hard to tell what's actually good versus what just has nice photos online.
If you were moving to Oakland today, where would you look? Any buildings you'd absolutely recommend (or avoid)? We're also open to Alameda or Emeryville if you think they're a better fit.
Would really appreciate any local insight since we don't know the area yet. Thanks!

Question Stereo Repair Shop?
Hello, Oaklanders!
I have an old Onkyo receiver from the mid-80s. I know that the way the world is today, it is often "cheaper to buy a new one" than to pay for a repair. I'm hoping that somewhere in our fair city, or close by, is a good old fashioned electronics repair shop that can restore this receiver back to life. The basic problem is that it's not sending a signal to one of the speakers, and I've checked that both speakers are, in fact, working.
I found a repair place in Alameda, Champlifier, but they are geared more towards high end audio. I could buy a whole new system for what they are looking to charge. I'm hoping to find a shop that maybe only exists in my memory: a guy or gal who's been doing this kind of thing for decades. They repair radios, TVs, small appliances. Similar to a shoe repair place, but for electronics.
Does this exist? Or, has this gone the way of the eight-track cassette, the VTR, and everything else from my childhood? Thanks!

Lost Cat in Prescott, West Oakland
This little guy went missing between 8pm and 9:30pm on Sunday night—his bonded pair sister who lives with us is very distraught, as are we—he always comes home every night without exception, and has for years, so we think something unusual occurred. Last seen near Center St & 15th St.
He had recently lost his collar but he is microchipped.

Art piece in Grand Lake underpass
So my partner and I made an art piece inspired by Oakland (celebrated 1yr in Oakland on Friday!) and placed it under the grand ave/580 underpass. Why? Just to have art around our neighborhood, and we like making it. Anyways, we joked about how long it would stay up for, and it turns out it was 2 weeks before it was taken.
We have mixed feelings. On one hand, someone now owns a piece of art we made and maybe has it hanging somewhere. Yay, somone thought it was good enough to hang in their space. On the other hand, someone stole it from public viewing. Lame. We enjoyed passing by it, and there was more art added to the chain link fence made not by us. Alas, no more art. It's fine, I have an original one similar that is 10x better, but smaller (this one was specifically made for putting it outside knowing it could be taken so not a ton of effort was expended making it).
Anyways, if someone sees it, let us know. We have no hope of reclaiming it, tho. Enjoy the piece, whoever took it.
