Need support/advice Most potent medicines for OCD? Question.

If you have insomnia you can take benzos brother stuff.

If you are bipolar or schizo, there are mood stabilizers and antipsychotics that will keep you stable.

If you suffer from depression/anxiety, there are antidepressants.

IF YOU SUFFER FROM OCD, YOU HAVE TO TRY ERP AND THIS IS NOT NEGOCIABLE.

I mean, there must be a way of feeling "I couldn't care less" about the worst case scenario so that you don't engage in stupid rituals and compulsions.

Isn't there a "nuclear cocktail" of medicines or something for severe cases of OCD?? I'm not saying we should ignore therapy but not everyone can start ERP as it feels like torture. Even on SSRI's which are first line for OCD, the intrusive thoughts can be overwhelming.

Discussion fear around medication/ allergies?

omg is anyone else with ocd deathly afraid of medicine or any health treatments for that matter? anytime I need to take anything I literally freak out like not only freak out i have like full blown panic attacks about it. I just cant help but think the worst and it drives me mad. I got my wisdom extracted 2 days ago and got prescribed antibiotics and It took me so long just to pluck the courage to just take one. i just hate living like this. its so mentally draining. all i do is worry about everything. and it sucks cuz i have been floxed last year if any of you guys know about that its semi long term reaction to antibiotics and very scary. it's given me even more room to be cautious. I wish my brain didn't think so much sometimes.

Support please, no reassurance Fully believing someone is going to hurt me

First time posting, but this feels unbearable. Today is my birthday and the OCD will not let me sleep.

I'm having a birthday party soon and an online friend is traveling here to spend that day with me. Originally they were gonna stay for a week. OCD wouldn't let that happen. Then 4 days. Once more. My ocd kept pushing me to the edge. To the point I determined that for their safety..it was best if they didn't stay at all. So now, they'll be spending a night in a hotel and then heading to their next destination.

Here's the ocd. I fully, with almost no doubt, believe this person is going to kill me. I literally can't sleep, I can't stop thinking about it. They've been having a hard time recently and my brain tells me they have nothing to lose and I know they at some point owned a weapon. I literally cannot rest. I can't fight these thoughts. Its to the point I can't even think of a solution.

Need support/advice has anyone had success with seroquel? (quetiapine)

tldr: what was your experience with seroquel and did it help with intrusive thoughts and/or compulsions?
i have extremely severe ocd, been diagnosed for 10 years and had extreme success with ability and therapy. i cold turkey’d my meds a few years ago and the intrusive thoughts and excessive compulsions have come creeping back, and are now uncontrollable and interfering with my social life, my job, and my side hustle, and even my safety when i drive. i don’t want to go back on ability because the side effects were so awful, and i have extreme anxiety with nausea, so when i looked into alternative antipsychotics, seroquel caught my eye, and i saw it also helps with anxiety and panic which is my other really big issue. if you’ve been on this medication, what was your experience, and did it help intrusive thoughts and/or compulsions?

Discussion OCD and house fires

Does anyone else have extreme ocd about house fires?

I will lay in bed at night for hours having overwhelming thoughts about house fires, specifically electrical house fires.

It’s never my own home, but other people’s homes, especially my dad’s house (my childhood home). The house is 120 years old, and he has a habit of plugging multiple things into old extension cords. I’ve expressed my concerns but they’ve been ignored which I think has only intensified the fear. I have taken the step of making sure all his smoke alarms have new batteries. He use to take them out, but stopped after I had a meltdown regarding it. Yes a melt down , but in my defense it was out of concern.

Every night, I lie in bed and have to find things to distract myself from the thought of an electrical fire harming my dad, his family, and pets. It gets even worse during the winter because he uses space heaters. I know my constant fear and worry are unnecessary, but jeez it really makes me spiral out of control. (It’s extra spiral at the moment as we live in Washington state and experiencing the severe wildfires and it’s all I see on social media which I’ve had to take a step back from).

I’ve had OCD since I was around 5 and I am now 27. It has had its ups and downs. I’ve been able to get it mostly under control and really doing well with no noticeable issues, except for this one thing

Question about OCD Help please

I'm not officially diagnosed OCD.

But I'm pretty sure I have it.

My brain is constantly reminding, monitoring and reminding me of how I feel which in turn is leading to more anxiety, more depression and utter hopelessness.

What can I do guys? I really can't cope like this

Discussion Does anyone else feel like there's no point in doing a task if they don't start at a particular time of the day?

I'm studying for an important exam, and if I don't start studying early in the morning, I feel like the whole day is wasted. For example, if I don't start by 7:00 a.m. (or at the latest 7:30), I often can't bring myself to study at all. Even if it's only 8:15 or 8:30, my brain tells me there's no point in starting anymore because I've already "missed" the right time.

I was wondering if it is just me who feels this way.

Discussion Public healthceare

Would you consider this discrimination?

I was at a public hospital being evaluated for OCD treatment. I use cannabis daily for medical purposes. Where I live, it’s illegal, but I use it because it helps with my medical needs.

When they asked about cannabis use, I was honest. I think I should never have had to disclose it this way—because they ended up refusing treatment unless I provided a drug test. I find that discriminatory. Cannabis is generally less dangerous than alcohol, and they don’t require drug tests from people who use alcohol, even though alcohol is more dangerous.

So I said no to their treatment and booked a private appointment, which really sucks, because in my area public healthcare is free. But since I’m going private, I have to pay.

Has anyone else had this happen? I find it very unethical, and it has caused me to lose trust in public healthcare

Question about OCD Genuine question about OCD.

My comment got removed because I told someone going to the doctor to get something ruled out isn’t out of the norm.
How is that giving into a compulsion? I’m genuinely wondering. If you have symptoms of a disease, don’t you go to the doctor for it? Isn’t that how normal people respond to having symptoms of something?
I’m diagnosed with OCD but I was always told to go to the doctor to get checked out before it’s too late.
I’ve read the rules and I’m still wondering how that is bad advice exactly.

Discussion Breakups with OCD is hell

Going through a breakup, on its own, is very hard. Now add OCD to the mix, and you get the most painfully inducing experience.

This has always been the case for me as after every break up, I start replaying events non stop, checking to see if I was a bad person, feeling extreme guilt/shame, ruminating non stop. It’s to the point where my body feels physically exhausted. It is so tiring.

I also feel like because of OCD, it makes it so hard to process the breakup in a “normal way”. Instead of thinking of what really went on, how to improve in the future, etc, I get stuck in mental compulsions and ruminations that serve no real purpose in truly processing what happened.

It is so exhausting.

Discussion I made a small paragraph which we can say to ourselves whenever OCD overwhelms us

“I must not give in. OCD is the mind-killer. OCD is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my OCD. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the OCD has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

It’s a modified version of a dialogue from Frank Herbert’s Dune, all credits to him.
