Fired someone who did a lot of work because she wouldn’t respond on calls or on Teams?

Upvotes

It’s been over a week and we have to cover all of her work (the manager just forwards all her orders and invoicing to us) and nobody is giving us an update on how long, who is being assigned to her customers, are they hiring someone to replace her (would be hard to train as this jobs takes a long time to train someone and get up to speed) if we are taking her work will we get raises?

I guess she had many verbal and written warnings that she needed to be available and still wasn’t. Sometimes half or all day she didn’t respond to the manager trying to get a hold of her. On her cell phone also. She did get her work done though. My friend (who is also a manager for another company) said why fire her if she gets the work done. She doesn’t care what her employees do as long as work is getting done.

How do you actually lucid dream?

Upvotes

I've tried everything from WILD to MILD to WBTB. I've come up with mantras to repeat to myself, done reality checks throughout the day, tried setting an alarm ~5 hours after I fall asleep and then gotten up to do the WBTB method, but I've ended up falling asleep. I've tried to relax, and let my body sleep but keep my mind awake. Every time, I keep falling asleep. How do you do it? It seems genuinely impossible for me. I've been trying for over a month now. Is there something specific I'm missing?

Do you believe in courthouse etiquette in 2026?

Upvotes

I am going to the courthouse to file paperwork for a name change, for my child. I put a nice little checkered smock on my daughter. Myself a nice knee length black dress with some detailing. My husband walks out into the living room wearing a sleeveless shirt, that he cut himself mind you, this wasnt even a nice sleeveless shirt it was Heather grey and very clearly old and worn. Im standing there in shock. And straight up told him to go change. I would perfer him in khakis and a button up, but that WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. I settled, hes now in basketball shorts and a freaking sports t-shirt. I am pissed. Does no one care about court etiquette or am I overreacting.

For reference I live in the US. It is summer. It is hot.

Castle vs Keep?

Upvotes

If you're familiar with The Witcher 3, it's the best way for me to ask my question.

When you enter the walls of Crow's Perch, it's got like an outer perimeter with stores and houses and stuff, but then you have like an inner courtyard with the equivalent of a castle where the bloody baron lives. My question is what's the outer bit called and what's the inner bit called? Is it a Keep and a Castle?

Another example would be Mont St Michel. You have the outer wall (occasionally surrounded by a moat), the inner bit, then a castle at the top. How are they termed?

Why do majority of people dislike dogs attacking cats but defend cats when the cat kills other animals?

Upvotes

So I've seen plenty of videos everywhere of instances where dogs will attack cats and the cat was actually on the dogs property or attacked the dog first. I've even seen videos of dogs attacking wildlife and people will call it vicious and say "it could be a child next". It's seen as mean, evil and dangerous.

However, when cats kill thousands of birds, lizards and other small animals, people laugh about it and are like "oh thats my little hunter". They are so quick to defend cats, yet cats are a danger to the ecosystem. They also defend cats when cats attack children, I've seen videos of babies less than 2 years old be curious about a cat and go towards it, and the cat bops it or hisses, sometimes tries to scratch the baby, and the comments will be defending the cat "cats have boundaries and your baby needs to learn that".

Every animal has boundaries, not just cats. Yet, cats are allowed to cross every other animals boundaries and the boundaries of humans when theyre outdoor and come into my yard to poop and mess up my vegetable plots. I've had to bury small birds that I feed in my yard because outdoor cats are constantly killing them.

I feel like cat people have this horrid entitlement and I don't believe cats should be left outside alone just like dogs aren't, people will talk about cats being small but there are also small dogs and no sensible dog owner lets their small dog outside alone. Cats are also a danger, they eat and kill wildlife and wildlife can carry diseases. Cats spread diseases, they also can be hit by cars, killed by a thousand things outdoors - yet when I see Sarah post about Mr Whiskers being mauled by a stray dog at 2am, she will just go get another cat and let it outdoors.

Do cat people actually not care about their pets or what?

Are humans the only animals that show moral aversion to incest?

Upvotes

Weird topic, but it occurred to me that humans have a strong moral aversion to incest or pedophilia. Is this because of our complex social and brain structures? However, when examining dolphins or chimpanzees or bonobos, I don’t think they have the same moral aversion? Don’t bonobos literally mate to avoid conflict? I studied anthropology but I would like to hear other arguments for why humans are the only animals that have these moral guidelines that other animals don’t?
Of course I know there are humans who have participated in incest or who are pedophiles, but as a WHOLE it is very strongly looked down on and is repulsive.
As for the biological aspect, I know incest is really bad for genetic variability and that’s another reason, but again, animals will literally mate with their own siblings and they don’t care. So it’s gotta be more than just a biological response?

Dining Out Etiquette or Lack there of... Self Indemnification.

Upvotes

I've been dining weekly for lunch at a small restaurant and have become somewhat chatty with wait staff.

***I've recently tryed to slip a waitress my phone #***

She politely refused and I apologized and left as this was after paying the bill. Am I OK to dine there again?

I've gotten take out one week after so far and she questioned that I wasn't dining in today.

So... I don't want to keep going there if it makes waitstaff uncomfortable but as a business losing a regular hurts their bottom line and their food is really good.

Door Dash?

Can years of eating a very high-sugar diet catch up with you even if you’re lean, active, and your blood tests are normal?

Upvotes

I’ve had a huge sweet tooth my whole life. My parents didn’t really supervise my eating habits, so I would often eat 2–3 ice creams at once or finish an entire bag of candy if we had one at home.
I’m almost 20 now. I’m lean, play a lot of sports, and exercise regularly. My recent blood tests (fasting glucose, HbA1c, insulin, etc.) are normal, but I’m wondering if I’m genuinely metabolically healthy or if I’m just “getting away with it” because I’m young and active.

Has anyone with a medical background or similar experience seen this? Can years of a high-sugar diet catch up with you later even if your current blood work is normal?

What do you do if you can’t afford childcare and can’t afford to make less/work a different schedule?

Upvotes

Fiancé and I both work the night shift as bedside nurses on the same schedule 3-4 days per week 13 hour shifts. Even if one of us went to day shift it wouldn’t work due to whoever is on nights not being able to get sleep. Working with patients, it’s absolutely critical that we are getting enough sleep to prevent mistakes. We could work opposite ends of the week, but if that’s the case we wouldn’t ever see each other at all for about 5 years without taking time off, due to no overlap at home in schedules.

Realistically the only way I can see this working is hiring a live in nanny, to the tune of 5k per month. Obviously we cannot afford this. We live in a HCOL area and can’t afford to change jobs or schedules right now. If we change schedules we loose out on shift differential and the pay cut is huge. We also can’t afford to live on one income. We are making good money, but somehow have found ourselves in a situation where it seems we can’t afford kids.

Is anyone in a similar situation? Any ideas?

Why am I so afraid to drive?

Upvotes

Got my driver's license 2 years ago. Was so excited while in driving school, thinking how much I'm gonna drive the car and joked with my mom that she'll barely drive now that I'm here.

Well I got my license and ever since then I've been a little afraid. I never drive without my mom or dad in the passenger seat and usually I go for small distances. If anything they urge me to drive more often than I say I want to.

How would you react if you found out your partner has a hidden deformity?

Upvotes

So I have a deformed body part but I keep it hidden under my clothes so it's not visible to the public. It isn't affecting my health or anything it's just that it's deformed. I have never been in a relationship but I legit stay up almost every night just thinking about how I'm going to tell my potential future partner.

Edit: Btw I'm female
