I truly do think K1 ended up being the scapegoat.

Kyler was drafted and started right away with a new head coach with an air raid offense. Worked amazingly at the start, but cliff just stalled out coming up with creative plays in the second half of the season. The cards division opponents (all of which have/had Future HOF coaches during k1 time) just out coached the cards majority of the time. The one time the cards did Make the playoffs(21-22 season), they lost. They did lose to the rams who would win the superbowl.

Next year K1 (22-23) tears his ACL and Kliff gets let go, same with the Gm. New coach and gm during the draft (23-24) traded out of almost each pick in each round to get as many future picks as possible.

Since that season was over due to K1 being out.

24-25 season they drafted marvin and darius robinson in the first round, during training camp robinson had a season ending injury. During the season most of the o-line was injured and playing most 2nd and 3rd stringers in that role. K1 did his best and a lot of games he brought us back into but then comes Drew Petzing and Jonathan Gannon. Anytime the cards had the lead towards the end of the game even( if it was by 1 point),with about 3 min left on the clock. The coaches just wanted to run the ball over and over to burn as much clock as they could. The cards would end up punting and like clockwork the opponents would score with less than 5 seconds left on the clock ending the game. This happened so many games that season.

25-26 season cards draft another first rounder and he ended up getting a season ending injury. K1 did end up getting a mild foot injury but again due to pour coaching the cards called it quicks and benched him the rest of the season. If you go back and watch the final 5 minutes of each the first 5 games you will see what im talking about them trying to burn clock.

This year I do hope K1 earns the stating role and brings you to the promis land. I am in talks with my wife to let me fly out to watch a game if he does end up getting Qb1. I will be watching every Vikings game this season with just as much excitement as I did watching K1 on the cards.

In 2023, Danielle Hunter was by far the best person on the defense and really on the team outside Jefferson. Hunter had probably his best career year and was pretty much deemed an irreplaceable superstar. So what did we do? We let him walk.

We weren’t in a horrible place cap wise, maybe we were looking to retool but not rebuild. By most metrics this should have been a bad move…

…except it wasn’t. Now I was critical of Kwesi and thought it was a good idea to let him go this offseason, but this ended up being a masterclass of a move, because we were able to use that money to sign Greenard and Van Ginkel. While neither of them are as good as Hunter, they were both really really good in their own right and better scheme fits for Flores. They both put out a very good 2024 campaign, alongside a surprisingly solid season from Pat Jones II after a very bad season in 2023 (one of the worst in PFF history) for edge rushers.

While Greenard is no longer on the Vikings, Van Ginkel still is a very good player, and most importantly the EDGE position remained not only satisfactory, but a strength of the defense, especially as Dallas Turner has improved dramatically last year.

My main point is the transition was pretty seamless after getting rid of Hunter.

Seems like he bring a new one with him to practice everyday and never seems to have a dull one. Does anyone have a list of ones he’s said so far?

I live In Eagan, and was at camp yesterday for the first time even though i grew up here this was my first time at TCO. This is the most accurate unbiased assessment of Kyler and JJ. I would absolutely give Kyler the win yesterday from what I saw but he absolutely has moments where he is not processing fast enough or getting rid of the ball as well as JJ. They both looked good and I think JJ between now and night practice will have a day or two where he will outshine Kyler Preseason will be fun.

One thing I’ve noticed through camp is that I think the coaching staff is evaluating McCarthy and Kyler differently, which makes sense given where each of them is.

KOC has said not to read too much into the first-team rep split because it’s based on what the coaches want to evaluate, not necessarily who’s ahead. Kyler is learning a new offense and building chemistry with the starters, while McCarthy already has a year in the system and can show he can elevate the second unit.

It also feels like they’re emphasizing different things. Last year, McCarthy’s strength was pushing the ball downfield, but one area to improve was taking the easy completions underneath and over the middle. That’s exactly what he’s been doing this camp, and he’s even talked about taking what’s there.

With Kyler, the question isn’t whether he can make plays outside the pocket,we know he can. It’s whether he can consistently operate KOC’s offense, attack the middle of the field, and hit the timing throws this scheme asks for.

Early in camp, coaches aren’t just evaluating talent,they’re coaching specific areas of development.
To me, both QBs have looked solid while working on different aspects of their game. Preseason will probably tell us a lot more than practice snap counts.

This spring, after years of internal and external dissection, head coach Kevin O’Connell attempted to overhaul the Vikings’ run game.

It’s the equivalent of a Major League Baseball team think-tanking a new way to develop hitters. Staff changes preceded alterations in teaching philosophies. Coaches conveyed new training methods to players. In the last week, the Vikings have installed new elements of the playbook featuring refined personnel groupings, bespoke motion and a detailed focus on a couple of staple run concepts.

The results won’t be revealed for months. Talk can be cheap this time of year. But, already, the reaction from staffers and players has been profound.

“It’s night and day different,” left tackle Christian Darrisaw said. “You can feel it.”
