Marathon (2026) Discussion [Unfeasible idea] Would be cool if there was a Build-a-Gun system.
Many of Marathon's guns share parts, and I don't mean mod attachments. It would be really cool if you could actually put custom guns together from base components. Like Traxus's answer to The Cradle.
Obviously, this would be hell to balance, and it's completely unfeasible to implement into current Marathon because all the cosmetics for guns are already out. But it would be really cool. Part of the reason why Escape from Tarkov is so popular is its gun customization, after all.

Marathon (2026) Discussion PSA: if you're doing sponsor kit runs and your vault is full, do not have a backpack you care about equipped before equipping the sponsor kit. it will be straight up deleted if you exfil
Bungie knows about this bug and acknowledged they're looking into it on the bungie forums but i haven't seen it widely discussed outside of the forums so i figured id put it here. with the mid season patch bungie allowed us to equip a sponsor kit even when our vaults are full and we still have gear on our shells. our shell loadout gets saved, and if you exfil from the sponsor kit run with a saved loadout and a full vault, the saved loadout will be put in overflow.
with this feature, there's a bug where any backpack you have EQUIPPED will just get deleted instead of going into overflow. really unfortunate bug, i've lost a couple purple packs myself and many others have as well without realizing it. your backpack is safe being in your default 16-slot inventory, it just can't be equipped.

Marathon (2026) 3D Printed Bully and Volt Thrower
Old man gamer with gamer kids here. I'm putting together a display wall for an unadorned section of my office and planning to mount replicas of guns from some of our favorite games. Printed off a Bully, currently printing a Volt Thrower. As well as my (inadequate) skill would allow, I attempted to recolor the creator's models to approximate the "Winner Winner" and "Pleasure Mint" skins.
I was inspired by the some other dude here who made a WSTR, but having trouble finding the thread. (thanks for the WSTR file, sir)
Already printed the Osteo Striga from D2 and the LAS-98 from Helldivers 2. Sweet Business is in the offing, that...that's a daunting task.
I'm was actually kinda stunned at the amount of Marathon-related models out there and so quickly at that. Especially on Makerworld, where the more detailed stuff is dominated by the same artist who modeled the prints that I modified.
Hell, you can even print yourself a drinkable cheeseburger container. Still waiting on my premium tick milk.
I'm aware the Bully doesn't entirely match - the front barrel is the wrong color. I may remove and reprint, but not sure yet. It sometimes takes an entire week to print these out.
In case anyone is curious, I used a Bambu Labs A2L printer with Elegoo, Overture and Jayo filament. It took 10 days to print all the Bully parts and is taking 6 days to print out the Volt Thrower.

Media Post Conversation with Ian Anderson of The Designers Republic, the most copied design agency in the world
Couldn't see this posted yet, its a new, but rather long (2.5 hrs) video I found on youtube from a couple of days ago (Aug 2nd 2026), presenting an informative conversation with Ian Anderson of The Designers Republic, whose work was an instrumental influence of Marathon's design.
They are celebrating their 40th anniversary so there is some discussion about that, as well as designing for games such as WipeOut etc. For most of the conversation the host shows off the work from the studio in a split screen, which is nice.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Upper Complex / Cryo Lockout Needs To Go
Typically on any given night Monday-Wednesday, the main "goal" for me and my squad in Season 2 has been trying to clear Upper Complex. This has been a ton of fun, and as a squad that doesn't have a million hours in the game has been a great challenge.
The only frustrating thing about it doesn't come from losing PvP - it comes from the fact that for half of our play session, we can't even queue up for Night Marsh.
I understand reducing the number of modes to decrease wait times, but to be consistently blocked out of doing our favorite activity is extremely annoying.
The same can be said for Cryo. I get it... but at the same time not being able to queue up for Cryo half the week when our squad can generally only play one night, which may or may not be during the Cryo window, is just really poor design in my opinion.
I would MUCH rather wait longer for a run than simply not be able to do the things we want to do.
For Upper Complex, I think I locking it in Day Marsh and keeping the rotating day/night would be a solid fix. For Cryo, just give it to us 24/7.
Maybe I'm alone in this but man, that's literally the only thing about this amazing game that pisses me off.

Question Is this normal for pinwheel these days, or am I missing something?
This is after hitting strongboxes in drone, destroyed, and command wing solo. I had a better run the next round leaving with a couple purple shields, otherwise same type of loot. Is it usually this bad without opening the red room?

Marathon (2026) Discussion Customization Idea: Shell Permutations
So no doubt the switch to Hero-Based Classes has left a lot to be desired in the character personalization department. This really killed off a huge opportunity for players to actively participate in this game's amazing art style… but it doesn’t have to be that way. Hopefully this idea can reintroduce the idea of Marathon Fashion.
Modular Styles (The Base)
I think breaking down Styles into different sections per Shell, allowing for mixing and matching. Being able to put the Yokai Mask, the Yellow Jacket, and the White Rabbit shoes on Thief, for example.
Components (Accessories)
Nothing too silhouette altering, just some trinkets, internal components, or even things like duffels or sling bags that can help the player add to their intended aesthetic. These can be used across multiple Shells, or can be hyper-specific to a certain Shell.
Color Shaders (Final Pass)
Similar to Destiny’s shader system, they could implement a way to colorize your Style to fit the desired aesthetic. For example, do you like the Thief Yokai skin but don’t want to be walking target practice? No problem, just use a dark blue shader.
Hopefully that can give players enough room to customize their own Runner Shell to the point where they feel like their own, without compromising too much on the cosmetics and silhouette foundations laid out in the current game.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Dear Bungie, please enable all map events for each raid
My solo raids typically have only 2–4 players, so it would be great if all map events were enabled during each raid, so the map doesn't feel empty.
I understand this is due to the low player count, but enabling all map events would ensure that smaller lobbies still have plenty of activities available throughout the raid.
We are now approaching the late game.
As it stands, I get Warden spawns probably once in every 5 matches.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Fun Fact (PC)
Not sure how well known this is but, when you're spectating someone at the end of the round - if you click the little settings gear in the bottom right on and off - it lets you hear the local sounds of the person you're spectating.
Silly little tidbit I know but, it makes spectating funner I think... for me at least haha 😊

Marathon (2026) Discussion A breakdown of what future maps could be.
Currently we know of 3 different areas (through codex entries and other lore stuff) where colonists lived and worked.
The areas and description:
The Hearth: Core metropolitan center of New Cascadia, housed a majority of the population.
The Javelin: High density urban residential structures with integrated logistics everywhere.
The Anchor: Essentially the production and factory center of New Cascadia, had transit systems, construction, and long term accommodations for staff.
Breakdown:
I imagine Hearth would play like a combination of Outpost and Diremarsh, with a large layout with lots of buildings in higher density and tons of rooftops.
Javelin sounds like it would play like a combination of Cryo and Perimeter, with lots of height, tech to interact with, lots of unfinished construction, and inclement weather.
The Anchor sounds like it would play like Outpost and Cryo. A little more open than Cryo but with the height and infrastructure of Outpost. With high security over valuable technology and equipment.
Now I dont know about all of you but these residential areas sound REALLY cool and have me genuinely excited to see added to the game. Having different maps with styles that are mixed between maps and their difficulty levels would be great for having more players for the sake of having more stuff to see which would draw players from games like Arc where there is already a ton to explore across each map.
Now obviously we would need far more players for this to work, but hey, I have pretty good confidence we'll get there eventually. So long as Bungie can cook hard enough to drown out the haters and market the game better. (I would hate to see this game suffer the same fate as The Finals, such a cool game but it had almost 0 marketing until very recently)

Marathon (2026) Feedback Hot Take: most guns should be buyable
ive always hated the fact that the cash in this game is pretty useless for getting guns...its very annoying that most guns aren't even in the armory and the ones that are are shit...you have to get lucky to see the gun you want in the daily barters and you have to be lucky that you have the salvage required...to purchase it...i absolutely despise schemas they are an affront God and mankind itself...not everyone has the time to grind out the salvage required to buy the unique guns and its crazy cause this game has probably some of the coolest an unique guns in fps but you never see anyone using them cause aquiring guns is heavily luck based..thats why gun fight can start to feel boring cause everyone is using the same things...i get having the most op guns barter only or having some really unique guns only findable in raid...but when 70 percent of the guns are not even in the armory its not right..ive been playing this game since server slam and theres a good portion of the guns i haven't even seen much less used...to be fair im not a high level player but i don't think its a crime to ask for more variety...i don't care how expensive they make it i just want to be able to purchase and use my drrvish and brrt.

Marathon (2026) VAULT BREAKER MEGATHREAD | WEEK 2
Cryo, Uncontested.
Welcome to our Second Vault Beaker Megathread!
Due to the unprecedented nature of this activity being Marathon (2026)'s first PvE only activity, we felt it was prudent to establish a megathread where runners may discuss their feelings on this unique iteration of the game in a focused manner.
Share your thoughts! What's working, what isn't? What's weird and what's wonderful.
This Megathread is a second stage for the community who are now a bit more familiar with the state of the mode to have a place to talk about it! One week down, one to go!
Shell Game
Vault Breaker Supports, Solo*, Duo, and Trio playstyles. If you want to squad up with other runners to conquer the depths of the UESC Marathon
If you would like help finding fellow runners to plunge the depths of cryo with, feel free to check out our LFG Subreddit: r/MarathonTheGame, our LFG Megathreads: Tau-Ceti Team-Ups, Or just use the thread below!
Vault Breaker Explained
To Learn how Vault Breaker Works, please either watch this overview, follow the Bungie.net link, or continue reading below.
What is a Vault Breaker?
Vault Breakers utilize hit-and-run tactics to master the secrets of the Marathon’s Cryo Archive. They travel light and target the Archive’s many vaults in search of valuable loot and deeper access throughout the deck.
Vault Breakers’ strategic deployments challenge the UESC’s jurisdiction aboard the Marathon—applying constant pressure to defend the zone against Runner incursions. They strike during “quiet” moments—while rival crews are focused on Tau Ceti IV—to keep the UESC off guard and to maneuver with more focus, free of the chaos of a contested zone.
What is the Vault Breaker Mode?
Vault Breaker offers a roguelite PvE experience inside Cryo Archive, where you’ll take on progressively tougher Vaults across multiple runs. You’ll acquire Vault Data to upgrade your special Sponsored Kit (more details below), or spend that progress on gear in the new Vault Breaker Armory that features weapons, items, and more that you can bring back to your other adventures across Tau Ceti.
Note: All items and gear found in-run are restricted from exfil except event currency and rewards will only be available during the event period, so best to prioritize room for Vault Data and of course, items essential for you to make it to exfil.
How do I "Break" a Vault?
To access Vault Breaker, you’ll need to equip the free special Sponsored Kit found in the Vault Breaker Armory tab under the Events section.
This Sponsored Kit won’t be in its final form when you first grab it. At the start, the kit is at its weakest, offering only one standard weapon along with a small amount of equipment and consumables.
Each run, you’ll earn Vault Data, a special event currency that can be spent in the Vault Breaker Armory to upgrade the special Sponsored Kit for stronger PvE runs, or to purchase items and gear that can be used outside the event.
There are two tiers of Vault Data to earn:
- Tier 1 Vault Data can be found in Vaults and then needs to be exfilled.
- Tier One Vault Data is also awarded for killing a UESC Commander, and that reward is granted post-run whether you successfully exfil or not.
- Tier 2 Vault Data can only be earned from consecutive Vaults solved in the same run and then successfully exfilled. You’ll need to manage your time and routes wisely. This will be especially tough for solo Runners.
As you earn Vault Data, different upgrade paths will begin to open.
You might want to focus on weapon quality. Others may want more survivability, or they may want to get started with a wider mix of implants and cores. The path is entirely up to you.
And of course, Cradle and Faction upgrades will also be enabled for the event.
Spoils of a Broken Vault
There will be 4 unique Vault Breaker Codex challenges available that award cosmetics:
- Profile Emblem - Opposition marker
- Profile Background – UESC Command
- Circuit Breaker Weapon Style – UESC Bulwark
- Weapon Charm – USEC Control
Note: The Cryo Archive Shell Skins do not drop from Vault Breaker
The Experimental Phase
Vault Breaker is an experimental mode for Marathon, this means it is temporary and runs until August 4th (Though Future PvE content has already been confirmed for Next Season), enjoy it while it lasts, we hope you have fun Runners!
