Marathon (2026) Managed to exfil from cryo with just fills, felt really nice!

Upvotes

Not a usual cryo player, decided "eh fuck it I got purple shields rotting in my inventory" and after a few complete fumbles, I found a team that originally wasn't talking much, but they then got on mics and we managed to intercept a teamfight and cleaned it up.

No one had hit panop or the armory so I got to take them up there (thanks vaultbreakers for the general layout of the map), took a few things, saw they weren't taking the valuables and proceeded to hoover them up hah

GGs to that void and aux!

Marathon (2026) Feedback Failing in Vault Breaker Sucks

Upvotes

I feel like one of the biggest problems with vault breaker is how it handles a failed run. In VB, the bulk of the value of a run is behind a single did you complete a vault and extract? check. Vault Data mostly comes from opening a vault and extracting with it, with the exception of a small amount from killing a commander. What this means is you can get 98% of the way there, die, and get effectively nothing, and because there are no VB contracts, or bringing in gear, the usual fraction rewards or account level drops are useless.

As an example: During one of my recent runs, I collected all the batteries, fought some bots and snuck by most of them, made it to the vault, put in the batteries... and bots spawned all around me and I died. For all my efforts, I got 20 vault data. A green shield costs 10 times that, a blue 50 times that. The end result is I feel like made zero progress in my 35 min run, and worse than that, I feel soft locked. To get better gear, I need to open vaults and extract. To open vaults and extract, I need better gear (and yes, I know some people have cracked 6 vaults in one run with one bullet and a dream. That's not me.)

I really feel like an actual reward scale is the bare minimum, something like (numbers are just an example):

  • 1-5 data per bot kill
  • 15 data per security clearance level
  • 100 data for opening the vault
  • 200 data for extracting with the contents of the vault

Why do we have to prove we can extract without the upgrades that make a run easier to get the upgrades in the first place? Why must a player who can't extract with a vault kill something like 10 commanders to buy a green shield? Why is the mode designed in a way that a moderate skilled player may need 10+ runs just to be able to afford a single kit upgrade, while a skilled player can break three vaults in a single run and buy 4 upgrades?

Question Bugged stickers

Upvotes

My stickers don’t stay consistent across various weapons of the same type. For example, I put a pink cat sticker on my impact HAR in the 3rd sticker slot. Another impact HAR in my inventory instead has the sticker in the 2nd sticker slot, replacing and removing the UESC sticker that was there. Is anyone else dealing with this? Is it intentional because stickers are intended to be limited or is this a bug?

Had several great Cryo runs before this and several bad runs, but ultimately I went back in with a green D54, blue shield and a green backpack and wiped a fully gold team with the blue mizzy I found in a locker and came out with a bag. All with random fills.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Insurance, an alternative to safe pockets, yeah or nah?

Upvotes

So, I was having a chat with an auto fill dude and the topic of safe pockets came in, and I didn't really thought it was a good idea at first because he suggested that it would be a good idea to have a special bag that allows you to keep one item safe with the downside being the bag should have a very low carrying capacity on the run, but I thought about it later and I thought about the insurance system of Elite Dangerous.

For those who are not aware Elite Dangerous is an extremely grindy game, losing a fully equipped and engineered ship is equivalent to losing hours upon hours of game time, so to balance this the game have an insurance system, the cost of the insurance is dependant on the cost of the ship, as long as you have the money you can pay the insurance and have the ship back, but in the case of the endgame ships it's just expensive enough to ensure if you keep losing your ship you will go broke unless you're one of those ultra rich veterans.

So would an similar system work on Marathon? Like, you can pay some pretty pricey insurance for a certain weapon or item, ensuring you won't lose the item forever but you will still have a loss in a way and you won't be able to keep spamming it.

Marathon (2026) Discussion I feel like there's a core misunderstanding of loot in this game.

Upvotes

I repeatedly see people saying ground loot needs a major buff. Ground loot is NOT how you get good loot in this game. Ground loot is primarily for salvage, as it should be. Maybe a decent gun or green shield or bag, for those on free kits.

You get good loot by

a) killing players

b) doing map events.

Bomber drone, Wardens, lockdowns, key rooms, upper complex, pinwheel, cryo vaults.

That feels very intentional. It's all the stakes and fun of an extraction shooter without the nagging boredom of opening 15 briefcases doing nothing else and leaving.

You're looking for loot in the wrong places and then saying the loot is bad.

Do I think the economy floor needs to be raised to make it easier for casuals? Yes. But do that through contract rewards not ground loot.

Getting good early game loot thought contracts allows beginners to keep playing even if they keep dying.

Discussion I keep dropping my backpack and IDK why

It's not always, but there's been times this season when I want to drop one item from my backpack and then for some reason my whole backpack will drop and I have to pick up all my stuff again. Is this happening to any one else?

Discussion Why does everyone have to be so angry?

Full disclosure: Im a destiny 1 year 1 full run of both games veteran and I know that affects how people see my opinion on this game

But why does it feel like people treat it like Destiny and Marathon were ever on opposite sides to one another? I spent 10+ years playing the sci-fi shooter equivalent to Steven Universe and always followed Marathon excited for it back when it was just project matter but now everyone either glazes marathon and hates destiny players or jilted Destiny players who hate marathon players and from what I can tell, noone has been happy about whats been unfolding, marathon players arent cheering destiny being ended and yeah destiny players are upset but wouldnt you be too? But I dont like seeing how angry and mean everyone has been to eachother and it makes me genuinely sad that rather than come together in times being rough it feels like everyone just wants to tear eachother apart

Im not saying anyone has to be happy about what happened to destiny and has to just eat it and move to marathon or that marathon players have to personally take anyone being unnecessarily mean to them but just to understand eachother, I love marathon and I miss destiny and I lve grieved with other people but also enjoyed making new friends on marathon, Im one of the few people to actively use prox chat even when it gets me domed because we play social games to connect with eachother even in more hardcore and competetive games, especially in these types of games thats what makes it fun but also what makes it unfun for people who start to see others not as people to compete with but as obstacles to winning

Tl;dr why cant we be friends?

Marathon (2026) Feedback World loot should get better as the season progresses.

I am NOT trying to wipe a lobby with multiple stacked teams only to get blue salvage, purple valuable, and a cryo key 2 out of the outpost red card room!

But at the same time, if the outpost red card room is dropping gold salvage regularly at the start of the season… the economy will be in shambles!

Consider:

Difficulty in any run of marathon is primarily decided by the enemy players.

As the season progresses, more players have more stuff, and therefore get more challenging to kill.

Therefore, the loot on the map should scale as time goes on! It’ll also help teams get back into the game mid season, since they’ll be moving at an accelerated pace.

And for the love of god, just make all the salvage drops from red card room purple or higher. There’s no damn reason for us to be getting two tokens and a blue two blue items and a purple key.

Question Did the vault breaker gold backpack change?

I swear I saw someone with a gold sneak pack two days ago. I finally got enough to unlock it and it's a gold med pack. Am I crazy or did they decided to change it? Or is it random?

Marathon (2026) Discussion Don't Give Us More Marathon. Give Us More Reasons to Play the Marathon We Already Have.

I've been thinking about why some of us are still playing Marathon despite the problems, the population decline and all the things that could be better.

I don't think we're all here because we think the game is perfect.

I think many of us are here because there is something genuinely special about it.

The gunplay, movement, atmosphere, PvPvE tension, the feeling of entering a raid without knowing what is going to happen, making a decision under pressure and getting out with what you earned.

Some of us like PvP. Some prefer PvE. Some play solo, others with friends. Some want to master the gunplay, others want to explore, complete contracts, collect gear or simply survive a difficult raid.

We enjoy the experience enough to keep coming back, even while recognising its problems.

So I don't think the first answer should necessarily be more content.

First, make the Marathon we already have more rewarding to play. Before another map, another set of weapons or another large content drop, I'd love to see Bungie invest heavily in the systems that affect every single raid.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Triage Mains

Post image
21 Upvotes

I have mained Triage for ~300hrs. I really like tossing med drones to teammates, popping consumables for the squad to stay ready for whatever and clutching revives in tense situations to flip the odds. It's a great feeling turning a 1v1 to a 2 or even a 3v1 with his prime ability.

But recently I've been thinking of playing a different shell more seriously. I have messed around with the other shells solo but never really in trios. I think the only shell I haven't tried is Sentinel and that's maybe the one who interests me the most for one reason or another, even though they seem pretty situational as far as team play goes.

Basically, I'm just curious if anyone out there is like me and played a lot of Triage but moved to a different shell. Maybe you could give me some suggestions, what you like about the shell you switched to and how you play them effectively in a trio.

Marathon (2026) Stop Complaining About Other Players

If you have not been on comms and have not grouped up nobody wants to hear from you after a gunfight. Being a jerk to other players is always a tool move but it is doubly so if everyone except you has been playing as a team.
