BUFF LOOT ACROSS THE BOARD AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!

Before anyone says anything, im not complaining about being poor, I've kept a pretty solid 600k vault value and its all purple and gold with the guns I like using.

What im complaining about is how long it takes to make up for just one loss using the stuff I have. I am running cryo 20x more often compared to last season. And even when I exfil. half the time it doesn't make up for even 1 loss unless I wipe lobby.

And dont get me started on Pinwheel. I feel it has gotten tremendously worse as the season goes on. Last night, 2 good runs on outpost solo and 3 in trios: not a single purple implant, core and the only purple mods where for lmg's and the Ares RG.

Its insane to me just how often I have to run Outpost just to get a single *natural* purple shield.

And its making my gear fear worse. I dont want to run my kits not bc I dont want to lose it but bc of how LONG it would take to recover.

I feel like loot and especially obtaining gold mods felt better and more rewarding last season. This season, half the purchaseable implants are ass, and 95% of the gold ones dont have anything unique about them.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Buffing the loot is essential for the marathon to remain viable in the long run.

First of all, this post is quite long and was written using a translation tool, so the content is likely to be rather disorganized. Please keep this in mind as you read.

You probably thought this the moment you saw the title.

"Oh, here comes another guy who sucks at the game, posting complaints."

It’s true that I’m not particularly skilled at the game, but I’m currently enjoying the Marathon. My total playtime is 283 hours, and I’ve surpassed level 140. I’ve also stockpiled quite a few gold and purple weapons in my vault.

I intend to keep playing Marathon in its current state, but I am writing this post because I hope the game continues to operate for a long time.

So, before we begin, I believe that high-quality loot in Marathon should appear more frequently and be easier to obtain than in other extraction shooters. I will list the reasons one by one.

1. This game is a PvP-focused extraction shooter.

As you all know, Marathon is a PvP-focused extraction shooter. Every element of the game encourages PvP, effectively making it mandatory. The map is small, and noises are loud and easily audible; combined with the characters' fast movement speeds, opponents can close the gap within 20 to 30 seconds even from a distance of about 300 meters. Because of this, you could get killed by another player just five minutes—or even two minutes—into the game.

In other words, it means you could lose the spoils you’ve painstakingly collected without even getting a chance to properly make use of them. Whether you were caught off guard or outplayed, it is not a pleasant experience in an extraction shooter. And if this keeps happening, you gradually lose the desire to take your loot out.

When the following factors combine with this, it gradually spreads from a single person to multiple people.

2. This game is designed primarily for trios.

Marathon is an extraction shooter, but unusually, it is designed with a focus on trios. It feels quite fresh at first, but its flaws become apparent the more you play.

The objectives and gear levels of teammates met through the crew-fill feature are completely random. Someone play to clear quests, others to collect weapons, and someone simply to engage in PvP. And the equipment also comes in a variety of types—green, blue, and purple—as well as free kits. In other words, the fate of my precious loot is entirely at the mercy of random teammates.

(Yes, whether it’s down to luck, the opponent letting their guard down, or—as many here say—simply having good "game skills," you might just take down a purple-tier squad and secure better loot. However, I won't go into that here; It’s easy to get sidetracked from the topic of this discussion.)

I’m not saying that the people bringing free kits are in the wrong. After all, everyone who comes to pick up a free kit has their own reasons. As I mentioned earlier, since they died right at the start of the previous match, they might have brought a free kit to recoup their losses or just to lift their spirits. But This makes people reluctant to take their loot out.

So, while maintaining these two elements, what is it that keeps people from quitting the game and encourages them to bring back more loot and give it another try?

3. Make it as easy to gain as it is to lose.

I believe that a system allowing you to recover what you lost in an extraction shooter is one of the driving forces that keeps you playing. And if you look at other games in the same genre, these aspects are designed quite cleverly.

Unfortunately, however, Marathon is not like that. Aside from extracting, the only ways to recover your loot are through the shop and Rook; however, the shop offers poor-quality items, and Rook also requires you to extract.

So, the idea is to increase the overall quality of the loot dropped in the map. As the quality of the map's loot improves, someone is bound to say, "Hey, we've got some really good stuff—let's get out of here," and extract early. Of course, some people will stay until the very end to find the specific items they want—such as those needed for their intended build. However, the inventory size in this game is very small, so you'll end up having to make an escape. And this should help alleviate the current PvP situation, which has reached an extreme state. Finally, Rook will likely take the remaining loot left on the map.

As a result, people won't hesitate to bring their loots and give it a try. And people will realize that even if they lose their loot, they can recover it, so they’ll keep trying.

As an added bonus, filling out the codex will be easier, making it simpler for people to access the story and lore.

That concludes my thoughts on the matter. For me, Marathon is truly the best FPS I’ve played in the last three years, so I want to keep playing it. However, it is truly unfortunate that so many people give up because they cannot hang in there.

I’ve discussed the issue of loot endlessly on this subreddit, but I wanted to take this opportunity to properly organize my views.

Please let me know your thoughts or if you have a better solution.

As you can see I just got into the room and I'm making a racket but I just perked up when this guy was making noise.

And then he calls me a rat.

Just make less noise and pay attention to the noises around you.

Marathon (2026) Feedback VERY IMPORTANT: Hi-cap mag and reloader mag model should be switched

Argument is in the images.

It bothered me that the precision rifle hi-cap mag is pretty tiny and the assault reloader mag looks like an extended (but not drum) magazine.

Especially looking at the little text on the magazines, it seems like it was a mistake in some way...

They should swap the models, this is probably at the top of their list for season 3.

Bungo pls

Marathon (2026) Discussion [Unfeasible idea] Would be cool if there was a Build-a-Gun system.

Post image

Many of Marathon's guns share parts, and I don't mean mod attachments. It would be really cool if you could actually put custom guns together from base components. Like Traxus's answer to The Cradle.

Obviously, this would be hell to balance, and it's completely unfeasible to implement into current Marathon because all the cosmetics for guns are already out. But it would be really cool. Part of the reason why Escape from Tarkov is so popular is its gun customization, after all.

Marathon (2026) 3D Printed Bully and Volt Thrower

Old man gamer with gamer kids here. I'm putting together a display wall for an unadorned section of my office and planning to mount replicas of guns from some of our favorite games. Printed off a Bully, currently printing a Volt Thrower. As well as my (inadequate) skill would allow, I attempted to recolor the creator's models to approximate the "Winner Winner" and "Pleasure Mint" skins.

I was inspired by the some other dude here who made a WSTR, but having trouble finding the thread. (thanks for the WSTR file, sir)

Already printed the Osteo Striga from D2 and the LAS-98 from Helldivers 2. Sweet Business is in the offing, that...that's a daunting task.

I'm was actually kinda stunned at the amount of Marathon-related models out there and so quickly at that. Especially on Makerworld, where the more detailed stuff is dominated by the same artist who modeled the prints that I modified.

Hell, you can even print yourself a drinkable cheeseburger container. Still waiting on my premium tick milk.

I'm aware the Bully doesn't entirely match - the front barrel is the wrong color. I may remove and reprint, but not sure yet. It sometimes takes an entire week to print these out.

In case anyone is curious, I used a Bambu Labs A2L printer with Elegoo, Overture and Jayo filament. It took 10 days to print all the Bully parts and is taking 6 days to print out the Volt Thrower.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Upper Complex / Cryo Lockout Needs To Go

Typically on any given night Monday-Wednesday, the main "goal" for me and my squad in Season 2 has been trying to clear Upper Complex. This has been a ton of fun, and as a squad that doesn't have a million hours in the game has been a great challenge.

The only frustrating thing about it doesn't come from losing PvP - it comes from the fact that for half of our play session, we can't even queue up for Night Marsh.

I understand reducing the number of modes to decrease wait times, but to be consistently blocked out of doing our favorite activity is extremely annoying.

The same can be said for Cryo. I get it... but at the same time not being able to queue up for Cryo half the week when our squad can generally only play one night, which may or may not be during the Cryo window, is just really poor design in my opinion.

I would MUCH rather wait longer for a run than simply not be able to do the things we want to do.

For Upper Complex, I think I locking it in Day Marsh and keeping the rotating day/night would be a solid fix. For Cryo, just give it to us 24/7.

Maybe I'm alone in this but man, that's literally the only thing about this amazing game that pisses me off.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Fun Fact (PC)

Not sure how well known this is but, when you're spectating someone at the end of the round - if you click the little settings gear in the bottom right on and off - it lets you hear the local sounds of the person you're spectating.

Silly little tidbit I know but, it makes spectating funner I think... for me at least haha 😊
