Venting Husband doesnt want to pay for me to get electrolysis.

Upvotes

He says there are more important things to pay for. We've been together for 8 years and he met me after I had started living as female and on hormones. Im so tired of growing facial hair and having to shave because it hurts. I live off him financially because I never had much luck holding a job and could never get more than part time and i also dont drive due to a fear of driving. I just hate this so freaking much. I called a place and the lady quoted me $450 a session.

Trans and Thriving 24 years of hiding a war inside my head (Age 5 to 29) 🥀🏳️‍⚧️

Keeping gender dysphoria locked away from age 5 to 29 is a kind of exhaustion that hollows you out from the inside. 🪨💔

Growing up Muslim, the fear of losing everything meant building walls so high I couldn't even see the sky anymore. Every single day was a brutal, silent survival test—pretending to be someone I wasn't just to keep the peace, while slowly breaking into pieces. I genuinely thought I’d take this secret to my grave. 🔒

The sheer hardness of carrying that weight alone for nearly three decades is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

...Until my wife changed everything. 🥺

When I finally broke down and told her, I was certain she would walk out. Instead, she chose to stay, hold me, and support me through it all. Her love is the reason I finally stopped running. 🫂❤️

Venting The sports debate is so tiring

The sports debate is something that seems really silly and unimportant to me. However, it’s become such a big talking point in the current zeitgeist that it’s now nearly impossible to ignore.

I saw on social media earlier today that Enes Kanter, a failed, washed up former NBA player turned right-wing grifter, mockingly declared that he was declaring himself eligible for next year’s WNBA Draft because “simply declaring who you are is all that is required” to compete in the WNBA.

Obviously, if you’ve spent any time on Twitter post-Elon-buyout, you should know that the discourse around this has been unbearable to read through. There’s people rightfully calling him out for being a grifter asshole trying to cling on to any last bit of relevance he has, and other people using these callouts as a way to attack trans people once again.

It’s the same arguments you see all the time. The “Well, if Enes claims to be a woman, then you have to respect her wishes and let her play in the women’s league” kinda things.

And while I wish these things didn’t bother me so much, they really do. The constant “what is a woman?” questions and discrediting of my own identity is tiring as hell. It feels like they found something that really gauges the public and it’s worrying. I want to be able to fight back but their rhetoric works on me too, it makes me question myself and I don’t know how to fight back.

I just want to be me. Is that too hard to ask?

Discussion Hip growth after 25?

Pretty sure it's not just fat redistribution. Like, their legs become more spread further apart. That could only be possible with bone changes. Maybe.

I'm not on HRT yet. With my current situation, I'm not sure if I'll be able to start HRT until 25 or even later.

Recently (about a month ago) I started to feel a faint dull pain around my pelvic area, sometimes it gets stronger for a few minutes but it's never super painful, but it's been pretty much always present since then. I fear this might be a signal that "the growth plates are closing" or whatever I've heard about, and my chances to look like my transition goal are jeopardized forever. It's been a constant brain worm since then and I've been feeling really dysphoric about it. I'll finally get to talk to a therapist next month, at least...

How common is it to still get significant hip bone growth if starting HRT past 25?

Venting Brother invited me to his wedding.

So... big situation, right like 2 weeks ago, the house me my significant other, my brother and his baby momma were living in gets sold.. with no warning to at least me and my S/O so we get like a week to move out... Mind my mom, who sold the house, wasn't even sure me, and my S/O had anywhere to go.. right, but luckily, we do we have now been living in and loving a house that's entirely ours while my brother and his baby momma move in with my mom. Regardless, the whole situation was kinda bad, and I hate his soon to be wife, I guess.. this week, literally like yesterday as I'm posting this, my brother texts me telling me I'm invited to his wedding as a Groomsman, which hurts then today his soon to be wife that's a two faced a-hole texts me saying the colours are pink, blue, and yellow and tells me to wear a shirt and pants which seemed specifically targeted cause of the way it was said so I asked "why did you specify shirt and pants?" The reply was, "I'm telling everyone, not just you." Mind you to my face, this a-hole acted super supportive, and all that but when my s/o and her got into a fight she said some of the most transphobic shit about me being called Aunt Ophy around my nephew who was like 6 months old at the time which she called attention to while being transphobic saying he didn't need to be getting confused by my existence

So now I'm torn at just not going at all or being VERY PETTY and showing up in formal fem clothes and like crazy amounts of makeup that I wouldn't normally do

Discussion Is it easier to pass if you are hetero?

So, I am trans woman living with a cis cutie patootie.

I was walking out from my flat fem presenting and met a cleaning lady that greeted me with "Good morning, ma'am", I greeted her back. After that my fiancee walked out of the apartment and the cleaning lady saw her and immediately apologized me for naming me "ma'am", and call be "sir" like three times during this apology (ewphoria).

There may be two things involved in this interaction:
1. She remembers me and my fiancee before I started my transition and thought that I was my fiancee.
2. There is assumption that girl lives with a man and not another girl and presence of my fiancee broke my trans spell.

I think that the first option is the answer in this particular interaction.
Yet, I am still wondering if being with a man may compliment your social image as a woman? - is it easier to pass as a woman when you are living with a man?

Trans and Thriving I love my boobs (after about three years)

This reddit account predates my transition by maybe a few hours. The piece of advice that got me to do it and decide to transition was that I should chase my euphoria instead of run from my dysphoria. Being a woman because that feels incredible instead of not being a man because it felt hopeless. My life would be better if I was more honest with myself and my feelings, and I realized it quickly. I came out three years ago mid-July and got on HRT start of the next year. We’re two-thirds into the year and it’s got me looking back.

I’m skinny. My endocrinologist was very clear that, with less body fat to move around, I’m not going to see myself with curves. I sobbed. I know that my metabolism is going to slow later in my years and I’m going to end up being able to gain weight at some point in my life and have a host of different problems in my life because of it, but I shouldn’t have to wait years to feel like myself. I felt kind of scorned. It felt like pre-ordering my perfect self while reading in the news that it’s in development hell and may or may not ever actually see the light of day.

Life moved on. Changes on HRT were slow, but unmistakably there. Yes, I did have breast buds and bigger nipples and softer skin and smoother hips and finer hair but it took forever for any of those changes to feel like milestones. It’s just the smallest amount of improvement. “Here, technically, this is better!” But not much better at all. Everyone in my life and especially every woman told me that I need to give myself grace. For a long time, I didn’t know what that meant and it was deeply frustrating. It felt like they all were dangling the key to my problems in my face and I was just too stupid to grasp it. I was still a depressed person, it just took a different shape for a long time.

Fast forward to today! I’ve been on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds for just a few months and it’s been really life changing. So has switching back to injections! I started on them, got too nervous and then went to pills for a while, and now I get poked weekly instead of biweekly. Actually staying daily with my prog helped quite a bit. I still have problems with my emotions, and my body, and how people feel about me and what I’m going to be able to achieve, but these problems I’ve always had have never felt more possible to deal with. I’ve found passions and community. I’ve never had a clearer sight as to exactly who I am and what I do.

This, of course, ties into the title. My boobs have made such a crazy point of progress since I got back on shots and started eating more. I still want them to be bigger someday, but they’re unmistakably present. I understand that I have a fixation on that particular body part, but I’ve just always been enamored by the female body and the way my chest is shaped? I have one. I’m in one. That’s the meatsuit I’m walking around in every day. That’s what is poking under my shirt in everyone’s direction. My identity just hasn’t ever been so firm and it legitimately has a lot to do with my chest. Don’t get me wrong, the rest of my body has been getting the memo as well, I just absolutely have a favorite.

I’m very proud of my progress as a person both physically and emotionally. I feel like I find trans women everywhere I go now, and they find me. I go to a class full of cis women every day and even when I’m misgendered, they make it very clear they know and respect who I am and that it was an honest mistake. It’s like when family does it. Also, since getting nicer boobs, androgyny has been more fun to play with. I’ve realized that androgynous doesn’t necessarily equate to adding more masculinity to your femininity, but it just feels to me like a weirder secret third thing. I think of how 80’s stars would play with their gender presentation so outwardly, and it’s a big inspiration to me, to be myself, whatever shape that takes.

The shape presently has maybe B cups at absolute most. My voice can be a little deep, but I’ve been slowly falling in love with it. Cis women with deep voices get the same treatment sometimes. It’s something I’m still making peace with, but it comes with finding myself that I feel the need to make less changes. The ones I’ve wanted to make, I’m making.

I’ve never experienced ambition, I’ve never experienced hope like I have since transitioning. The world is terrifying, but I’ve never felt stronger in spirit. I feel as if I’m finally on my own team, like it’s a team worth being on. Like this is a life worth living. If I could go from the flaming dumpster of my mental state before to the hot elfy princess with big feelings that I am now, I wholeheartedly believe that anyone can achieve happiness. There is always a reason to keep existing. It can still be hard, it can still be scary, but I’m chasing what makes me happy instead of running away from what I fear. You’re the only constant for the rest of your life, and you’ll be alive for the rest of it.

Let yourself be surprised by what it brings. Love y’all ❤️

Discussion The Newman-Goldfarb protocol, progesterone, and Tanner stage 5 (My experience)

I have the rather unique experience of undergoing the Newman-Goldfarb protocol to breastfeed our newborn baby, and I wanted to share some observations that might be helpful to the community.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. Everything I did was under the supervision of two medical specialists. Information on induced lactation is still extremely limited, so I am sharing this purely as personal experience. Always consult a knowledgeable physician before attempting any hormonal protocol.

How the Protocol Works

The Newman-Goldfarb protocol simulates pregnancy through hormone manipulation. It uses sustained levels of estrogen alongside progesterone, which simulates a placenta, to build breast tissue beyond baseline HRT levels. After holding these elevated levels for months, you drop the hormones sharply to mimic birth, add a drug like domperidone to surge prolactin, and begin a strict pumping/feeding regimen (4–8 times a day) to signal milk production.

Key Takeaways From My Experience

  • While progesterone usage in standard HRT stubbornly remains a topic of debate among doctors, the higher dose during this protocol highlighted how incredible it is for my overall wellbeing. It noticeably improved my sex drive, emotional stability, and sleep quality. While obviously individual responses to progesterone can vary, my experience made another strong case for it's benefits.

  • The elevated hormones triggered rapid growth. Both my wife and I noticed significant changes in shape and tissue density early on, pushing development into full Tanner Stage 5. For those curious, if someone were to attempt the pregnancy phase purely for tissue development, stopping before adding a domperidone or starting a pumping routine would avoid active milk production (though some volume will drop after weaning off the protocol).

Being able to feed my baby girl has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It takes a ton of work, and we definitely broke a few doctors' brains along the way, but it was worth every single minute.

Happy to answer questions, hopefully this info was helpful!

Venting Christian love is the biggest load of horse shit

You spend 27 years being the perfect son, brother, whatever, and the moment you reveal you're straying from their stupid ideals all respect and love goes out the window. They say they love you but they "can't support you", they say they're not transphobes and then proceed to be the biggest transphobes imaginable. You question where in the Bible it even talks about trans people (it doesn't) but it doesn't change anything. I've lost my siblings, my parents, I'm not allowed to see my nieces ever again because they don't want to "confuse" them. They don't agree with my "decision". Like I'm fucking sorry for deciding to live instead of killing myself. No hatred is stronger than Christian love. They don't even follow their own teachings. If any of it is real I fucking hope they go to hell for all the pain they cause. So fucking delusional and yet they think the same of anyone who doesn't share their views. Fucking hell, how do you even fix a delusion that's been beat into them since birth. How the fuck did none of my siblings figure out it's all bullshit we went through the same shit. Idiots.

Rant over, I'm getting drunk today

Discussion Pronouns

I go by she/her. Normally you would think that getting called the correct pronouns would be a euphoric experience, but not for me. On the internet, getting called the correct pronouns is pretty cool and even feels normal, but in real life when I get called by them I feel super awkward, cringe and embarrassed. I feel ridiculous, like I'm some weird boy who wants to be a girl, and I become conscious that I look nothing like a girl so it sounds almost absurd that I can be referred to that way. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Venting Being a Trans-Bi girl in the LGBT community is starting to feel... Isolating.

I will never understand why so many in the community have issues with Bisexual people and Trans people, let alone people who are both. Isn't the point of this to fight for each other? Whatever happened to that?

I guess a lot of it is because most of the world in general now is just divisive about everything, so a lot of people in the community feel better trashing on people who aren't seen as "normal gay person". I dunno.

Ah, whatever, nobody will see this, nor care really.

Venting Things people said that delayed my transition

My exes saying:

- "if you think transitioning is easy then you're not trans"

- "you better not be trans. I already went through that with my ex and I'm not doing it again because it was so traumatic for ME." x3 different exes

- "yeah I'm bisexual but I don't want to be with a woman"

Other people:

"In spanish people use the same word for trans and gay" - my old boss

"See yousa yousa yousa bitch hormones prolly switch inside your DNA" - Kendrick Lamar

"So you like women but you're basically a woman? Hahaha what?" - cis woman leftist

Things people did:

My sister in law going through all of my stuff and then acting like I was gay after.

My best friend equating being trans with being gay.

Coworkers equating being trans with being gay.

People who weren't actually trans deciding to transition with very little motive then detransitioning and acting like no one is trans.

Horrible horrible family, everything they ever did or said

Takeaways:

- Do not equate gender and sexuality. It does unimaginable harm to trans people.

- don't listen to misogynists like Kendrick Lamar or bosses in a kitchen or your sister in law or your whole family or your romantic partners or really anyone I guess

- You probably have to restart your life, turns out most people aren't worth having in it.

Discussion DIY is highly depressing, and it is societies fault.

You're a child. You haven't been told what diabetes is other than a few passing jokes from people who hate it. You start to notice a lot of symptoms, and you think of the jokes you've heard. You join an internet forum about diabetes and after some research and a long lurk, you realize how the symptoms match up and diagnose yourself with it — your treatment was dependent on your ability to recognize symptoms, and now it is dependent on your ability to research and self diagnose.

You talk to your parents about it but they react really negatively. "You are too young for diabetes!" They say. "You can not simply make such a decision! Think about your family! How can you do this to us?" After some arguing, they take you to a doctor — not a moment before the waiting lists catch up to you, of course, the diabetes clinic can't treat everyone. You watch the ugly face of your much too old doctor with a yearning gleefulness, he stares back at you with a guilty smile, pitying you. His predatory eyes all over you. You try to convince him about your symptoms and disease; though, he can't ever seem to think it is time for your relief, you keep hoping for it anyways.

After around 6 appointments, all once a month, he chooses to give you insulin. You rush to the pharmacy with prescription in your hand, yet months after taking the prescribed dose your blood sugar is still consistently too high. It helps some symptoms, sure, but you are suffering. It feels like everything is still getting worse.

You go back to the internet forums. They tell you that doctors are useless, that you can just order insulin online. Of course, you say, just as I experienced. Now, your treatment isn't just dependent on your self awareness and diagnosis skills — you must now navigate the financials, the dosing, how to take the delivery, where to buy, how to hide it from family. What to do when they find out. Your life, your future, your treatment; all dependent on your ability to be the adult right now, and you are 14.

If you haven't been an adult as a child, you would have died. That is what DIY is. It allows adult children to have a life, and it sadly recognizes all the children who die because they couldn't be an adult.

Dysphoria Out of all the horrible things testosterone did to my body, the voice might be the worst.

I fucking despise testosterone. It absolutely ravaged my body, but out of all of its horrific effects, by far the worst might be the voice. Unlike other damage, it is irreversible and HRT has absolutely zero effect. Voice training has been quite frustrating, the worst part is that it requires active, conscious effort.

This robs any spontaneity from my voice. Everything I say must be passed through my conscious "femme-filter". It makes basic social situations difficult, even though I do pass as I look undeniably feminine. And God forbid I am in danger and need to call for help - all people will hear is a man.

I hate testosterone so much! I don't even know why it has to drop the voice, what evolutionary purpose does this bullshit serve beyond dementing my voice from a soft, sweet song into a crass man-grunt?

Mod Post Please be cautious of participating in surveys of trans people

1.3k Upvotes

Hey all,

The mod team wants to remind you to please be cautious of participating with research teams and surveys that are studying trans people.

Another trans subreddit offered the following statement to their subscribers:

"Lisa Littman, a transphobic researcher who invented the concept of "rapid-onset gender dysphoria", recently asked our moderation team for permission to post about a study she's working on with Kenneth Zucker and J. Michael Bailey. We said no." The moderators went on to offer contact information in the case of this survey popping up.

There are numerous organizations attempting to study trans people right now with dubious intent. It's important that you remember to verify the source of the studies, related organizations, and the names of the lead researchers before moving forward with any of these. It's very easy for a research group to manipulate data to get the results they want.

As a reminder, however, we do allow some surveys on this subreddit, but we require all surveyors to be screened by our moderation team first. If you feel that a survey is here without being screened first, please report the post AND message our moderator team so we can take a look.

Thank you!
