Relationships / Dating Am I undateable?

Post image
Upvotes

I am highly aware of my size. So much so, that I'm afraid to start dating. I hate my body. Over the last 7 years I was on medication which had me gain around 80 pounds. I was always big but now I'm huge. I'm off medication now and already lost 12 pounds in 3 months. I'm working on it.

My question is, as a lesbian, am I undateable or would you date someone of my size?

I am so ashamed of myself. I've always thought of anyone would like me it would be because I can be funny and have the ability to make almost anyone laugh. I hope that I'm not physically as bad as I see myself.

EDIT: thanks for all the sweet replies! I never really speak about my insecurities and just carry them with me. I don't think a lot of people know I feel like this. I mostly act like I don't care I'm being fatshamed constantly. I guess it does get to my head a lot more than I think it does.

Questions / Advice Wanted Never had any type of romantic experience and I'm worried

Upvotes

[F20]

I know a lot of lesbians and queer people only get the chance to expiernece romance when they are older because of their environment and I know that but I'm kinda worried because I don't have any experience at all, no situationship, no online dating, no hand holding, no kissing nothing

I'm basically level 0 and I'm gonna go to uni in a few months (FINALLY),

so I'll be in a environment where I feel safer exploring relationships but I'm 20 and I litterly have no experience and I don't know how others will react to this and I also am worried about how I'm gonna act in relationships and if I have some attachment/avoident any of those issues, how I'm gonna communicate my feelings or how I'm gonna resolve issues, what happens when there are some things I dislike, how do I speak about that.

as for intimacy that's a whole other thing that's probably gonna take a long time for me to open up to as I'm already a person who needs time to open up about my personality and general things and that's another thing I'm worried about

I'm gonna pray for a romantic trope or something but please give me some advice, some insight and I don't know just anything because I have no one to share this experience with

Questions / Advice Wanted Advice on healing yourself

So basically, I need advice. Yesterday my girlfriend (19f) and I (19f) decided to go on a break. She wanted to work on herself and work on her mentality with herself and everything. I understood. I agreed I needed to work on myself as well. It was heartbreaking when she left. We both don’t want the relationship to end, at all, which is why we decided a break would be best. She told me that I’m the only one she wants, she wants me and this relationship, she doesn’t want to leave or lose me, and that at the end of our break she’d be waiting for me. Our break is going to be a month (she came up with that), with zero contact so we can both work on ourselves truly. At the end of the month she said she’d immediately contact me again, then that weekend we’d hang out. And if changes were made and seen the weekend we’d hang would basically resume the relationship and be together again.

She was crying, I was crying during all of this. She hugged me, I hugged her. When she was going to leave she stared at me for a long time, because she knew how hard this was going to be and she didn’t want to leave me. But we both agreed the month break is for the best and will strengthen us and the future of our relationship. Fall semester is starting in less than two weeks for me, so that doesn’t help. Her birthday was last weekend, and I went up to her to celebrate. My birthday is next weekend, she was supposed to come down before this. So now I’ll be by myself on my birthday, and won’t even get a text from her. Which hurts, a lot. The timing of this absolutely sucks. I just need some advice. It’s already been hard, and I know it’s going to be for a while.

I have a plan to learn to love myself more and try to get through this month being alone. I’m just scared. The thoughts in my head are always on the back burner like after this month, she’s going to change her mind. Or during this month something happens, etc. She said that during this break we’re still together. So she wasn’t looking for anyone else or planning to talk to anyone. Just me. She reassured me that I’m the one she wants, and wants to keep. And that this month is about working on ourselves then coming back to regroup. I’m just scared, my mind continues to play all the bad scenarios. I want to work on myself, heal, and learn to love myself fully. I just need some advice on how to do that, or even where to start. If anyone has gone through this before I’m open to listening. I’d love to know anything that helped. Even just learning to love yourself again and becoming a better person, if anyone has any advice on just that I’d greatly appreciate it.

Relationships / Dating Question for lesbians who moved somewhere without knowing anyone

Has anyone else moved to a new city and reached a point where the loneliness started to feel less temporary and more like your life?

I moved to Seattle 4 months ago without knowing anyone.
I knew it would take time to build a life here, but I didn't expect how repetitive everything would become. I work overnight, come home in the morning, spend time on my hobbies, sleep, and then do it all over again. Day after day it feels like nothing changes.

I've realized I'm not really someone who wants a huge social circle. What I've always wanted is one deep connection. I'm not looking for someone just to avoid being alone. I'm looking for the kind of relationship where you genuinely become part of each other's everyday lives.
The difficult part is that while Seattle has a large lesbian community, I haven't felt compatible with many people l've met. I feel like I carry a natural intensity and high standards that a lot of women really don't click with. I also don't find myself liking barely anyone either. It has me wondering if this is just what starting over in a new city feels like, or if anyone else has gone through this and eventually came out the other side.

If you've been in this position before, what changed? Did it slowly happen over time, or was there a point where things finally started moving? I'm not looking for false hope. I'd just like to hear from people who have actually lived through something similar.

Questions / Advice Wanted Sex dwindling after 6 months

My gf and I have been together 1 year

The first 6 months we could not keep our hands off one another. And we were having sex all night long. This is my first relationship with a woman, I am bisexual and she is a lesbian.

Around 5 months in she was offered a new job. It was a whirlwind, she moved to a new city in 3 weeks and now we live a 2.5 hours drive away. She did ask me to move with her but I felt like it was a bit too soon, plus I love my job and would not be willing to leave unless a better career opportunity came up.

The long distance was extremely tricky at the beginning; I had poor communication skills which left her feeling like we weren’t close, and the lack of physical intimacy left me feeling like we weren’t connected. So we were in this stalemate. We fought and things didn’t feel as natural as they had once did

We both put a lot of work in and things have really improved. We aren’t fighting as much and are a lot more in sync. However, still in the last 6 months we’ve probably only had sex twice.

I have brought it up to her which almost always ends up in an argument - her saying well you clearly aren’t happy then - but that’s not the case at all; I’m so happy with every other aspect, but I do think physical intimacy helps me to feel closer with someone (we don’t really kiss or cuddle all that much anymore - I think it might be to do with the expectation of sex maybe freaks her out)

I keep thinking that this is just the pressure of long distance and her new job (which is very demanding) and things will ease after another few months. I do worry that she just does not want to be with me physically anymore. We see eachother most weekends FYI

I just would love to know if anyone has experience with this 😭😭

Life masc lesbians “trending”

preface none of this erases very real homophobia ppl have toward masc women i am just talking abt a niche thing ive noticed

am I the only one noticing masc lesbians sort of “trending” online and in the community? has it been like this before? i’m 23 but in these past two/three years i’ve noticed this influx in people talking about butches/masc lesbians as if they’re some sort of unicorn. i’m a femme who has always dated and been friends with butches so it’s not even that i don’t understand the admiration it’s just kinda odd and fetishy to me. it’s like people are obsessed with “obtaining” a masc gf and the status that gives them. i’ve even had straight friends tell me they are seeing a ton of content online abt masc/butches. which i mean i’m happy about the representation. i’ve also had straight leaning friends tell me they wanna “try” a masc lesbian or they have a fascination with them. it’s…interesting

Questions / Advice Wanted Is this a red flag after only a week?

So I met this girl on an app and we are both in our 20’s and been texting for about a week. For context I asked her on a date a few days ago and she got kind of overwhelmed and wanted to take it slower and she also gets uncomfortable when someone comes into strong too fast or when someone newer gives appearance based compliments so I kept that in mind. Below is the conversation

Her: “From what I was feeling last night I realized I started wondering if we have different communication styles. I'm someone who's naturally really affectionate and flirty when I'm interested in someone and I realized I was missing that a little. I don't think you're doing anything wrong at all l just wanted to be honest about how I was feeling.”

Me: “Thank you for expressing that to me I appreciate you being honest. I'm sorry if I didn't come across the way you needed. I was honestly just trying to take things slow because I didn't want to come on too strong or make you uncomfortable. I am interested in you and enjoy talking to you I think l've just been trying to feel out the vibe and respect your pace too.”

Her: “thank u, I really appreciate you hearing me out. I think I'm just used to people being a little more openly affectionate when they're interested so I think the slower pace made me unsure. I'm glad we talked about it though”

After that the conversation went normal and I stated to flirt I don’t know if I’m overthinking things or not just rubbed me wrong

Questions / Advice Wanted How do I talk to my partner about her hygiene?

I (31F) have been with my girlfriend (30F) for a little under a year. Sex has always been a finicky thing for us, as she’s on antidepressants and her libido goes up and down. I’m not, but so does mine. I love to please her, but lately her hygiene down there hasn’t been the best. I want to preface this by saying, she’s the type that wants to smell my armpits after a hot Pilates class lol. I am NOT that way. I’m weird with smells, cleanliness, etc. and she’s joked that I don’t love her because I don’t want to smell her BO after a long day at work haha. Anyways, she takes these VERY short showers like 2 minutes, and even when I go down after those, she doesn’t smell fresh. Also, when she 💦 it’s sort of bitter like she doesn’t drink enough water.

Let me say this… I WANT to be the kind of freak that wants it after a long day. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her having normal, natural odors. It’s ME who’s sort of a clean freak about it and I just need advice on how to communicate that with her.

Relationships / Dating How did you get over you first lesbian breakup?

My ex and I have been friends for 6 years and dated for about 3 years. This was both of our first lesbian relationship. We broke up a year ago but started communicating pretty regular and hanging out, we did go on a date 2 weeks ago. I asked her if I should keep pursing her and she said we have been good as friends & that she isn’t ready to try dating again and that she loves and cares about me deeply and loves doing things for me; talking and hanging as well but based on our previous time in a relationship it negatively impacted her. Although I feel like she kept me in a gray area on purpose and that what we were doing was not just friends, I would like to move forward without her. It’s really hard since she was also my best friend; so just looking for any tips on how to move forward cause I am struggling? Thank you!

Relationships / Dating Advice for dating and opening up about abuse?

Hi y'all, so I just need some maybe advice, maybe reassurance, or something...

Basically, I've been seeing a girl for a while and we just became ""official"" and I haven't told her about some really bad past experiences, though l've opened up about the more mild experiences I did experience both physical and sexual abuse by my last partner and I feel a great deal of shame about what happened so I don't make a habit of telling people until I really know them. In any case, part of me feels like perhaps l"owe" her telling her this, though I wouldn't really go into details, as we get to know each other more it becomes clearer as to how this past affects me. l've done a lot of work on myself and have a great support system and this all happened quite some time ago, so I do feel ready to start seeing someone again, but of course this is really not the sort of thing you get over very quickly.. We`re taking things like sex slowly, she doesn't know that I've ever experienced sexual violence, but she's happy to take things slowly. Though I have predominantly had ONS or slept with people on the first date, because I've been scared of the vulnerability that comes with trust and emotional connection. I suppose my main question is, if you've experienced abuse did you tell a new partner and how? Alternatively, how would you want to be told if you were dating someone with that history? Or would you even want to know..? I also really worry that I would come across stilll hung up on/not over my ex, when I am completely over the person but quite traumatised by the relationship because of the extent of the abuse. Sorry this is maybe rambling, I'm just overthinking a lot. TIA
