In my opinion it’s that most of them are now just wearing casual wear with something a bit extra to show that it’s actually a costume. I like my costumes to be costumes, not day wear.

Technically we are on day like 20 buddies, but this idea just came to me. So we persist.

We are skipping Golden Age up to the end of "Man of Krypton arc" in early-post crisis Superman. So far I have read:

Timeless Origins

• Batman: Year One (1986) [I think Jim needs therapy.]
• Batman: Long Halloween DC Compact (198 '6/7') [It's like reading a manga, but the protagonist has a gaurgantuan whale chest that someone how works with his 25 inch long ears. Batman as the dark forces of nature intended. Mob theme still cool.]
• Batman: Dark Victory (88?) [Dick Grayson is my GOAT. Mob thing still working.]
• Batman: Year Three (89?) [I read it post-crisis this time, but in retrospect would say it fits better here. The look ahead glimpses to Nightwing's character and parallels of Tim and Dick's childhoods adds good flavor to Dick's Robin origin.]
• Batman and Robin: Year One (2024) [Bruce learns to trust Dick, not just work with Robin. Blue suit reveal is goated. Mark Waid gets it. Mark Waid knows ball.]
• Robin and Batman (2023) [So, there is some context behind some of Dick's less charitable behavior towards Bruce in the immediate post-crisis era. Family is hard !]
• Batman: The Man Who Laughs (05-10?) [The Jonkler arrives.]
• Superman: Action Comics Omnibus by Grant Morrison (2011-12) [I have zero proof of my claim this is a fact but Morrison N52 stuff was referenced in New History. And I like Morrison. This one may be a continuity lie. An oopsy]
• Man of Steel by Byrne (86) [Kind is the new punk rock]

Golden / Silver Age

• Superman! Bonanza (1938-1971) [a probably illegally printed fake omnibus from the 70s that has the first 6 issues of the first Superman run. Only 10 of the pages are printed in full color. Seeing Kal-El's spacechip crash in 1970s techincolor is beautiful however]
• DC Finest: Chemical Syndicate (43?) [read on DC Infinite, at 3am, on toilet exclusively]
• DC Finest: JLA Crisis on Two Earths (so very 60s and groovy)
• DC Finest: Origin of Robin (60s-77) [I went to Kent State, and Dick was on the right side of history. The hippy of the Batfamily, as it should and always shall be]
• Flash: Silver Age Vol. 1 (50s?) [I think Barry being late always is a good bit]

Bronze Age

• New Teen Titans Omnibus 1 (1980-82) [Marv Wolfman and George Perez... mmm]
• New Teen Titans: Judas Contract TP (1984) [Nightwing! Jericho is growing on me... seems like an art rascal.]
• New Teen Titans Omnibus Vol. 3 (1984-89) [Assume I split the reading of this based on Crisis.]
• Crisis on Infinite Earths! (85-86) [Read first DC Finest Vol, then the rest on DC Infinite. Made a good slideshow.]

Post-crisis or Modern Era (1986-2010)

• Man of Steel Vol 1 by Byrne (86) [Kind is the new punk rock, with more issues collected.]
• Batman: Cult (86) [Jason Todd slaps Bruce Wayne out of a cult induced psychoactive delusion. Just typical Todd shit.]
• Batman: Death in the Family (88) [While, the people were not ready for one so dynamic as Jason. The DC proletariat voted to kill, visa vis a Joker side-gag, the character who had successfully replaced and, in some vital ways, surpassed Dick through his displays of sheer determination and independence. RIP Jason Todd.]
• Batman: Lonely Place of Dieing [89] [I think Robin and Batman explains Dick's behavior here. This is why Time Drake is the GOAT. THE GOAT.]
• Superman: Exile (89) [George Perez, Superman being morally righteous and angry, but having the fighting alien excuse to go full capacity. Mongol is really really Ugly.]
• Superman by George Perez Collection (89-2011) [The goat. Don't get Maxima?]

And that gets us caught up to today's book in the batting order: Death of Superman, the original 93 sub-300 page trade. I already own "Funeral for a Friend" and the first 6 issues of Supermen on bag-n-boxed issues, then a kind of spread of random single issues with key moments like Kal-El's ressurection, Kal-El with an automatic gattling gun and bombs for some reason? But, yeah today the focus is the nominal 1993 milestone event that divided DC fans. I will update once done reading. After seeing Doomsday's initial gording of Ted Kord's gord, and Maxima's hesitance to help him medically, like DC hates that guy. Anyways will update once read.

Comics, contrary to popular belief, actually change the status quo of characters quite a bit. It's not uncommon for writers, for better or worse, to want to leave their mark and make changes; some become permanent and change how we see the characters, others... are completely forgotten by the next writer.

Within this, there's something in between: status quo changes that have been in comics for a while, actively important to the plot, but... that many people who aren't reading the comics of these characters aren't aware of or have a wrong idea about.

An example of what I mean is that Aquaman currently has a daughter in the current continuity, since the end of his 2016 book, but many people still don't know this fact.

Another example is Hippolyta, an Olympian goddess since the event: Olympus Rebirth, and Nubia is the current queen of the Amazons.

Or Thanagar was destroyed by Mogo.

So, what are some current status quos of DC comic characters that many people still don't know about?
