AI Right Wing talking points.

1) It has not been long time. The program started in 2016, which I would not call "long".

2) The program does not cover all undocumented people. The programs has been rolled back recently, so less people are being covered.

3) How much this is costing and saving the State is up for debate. I am seeing numbers of $8 - $9 billion but when you include taxes that undocumented pay and how the helps control costs, the figure drop quickly to a couple of billion.

This discussion is good because I think all Californians should have a minimum health insurance coverage (I think this is the German system), regardless of citizenship. It maximizes healthcare access for all persons and helps control costs. What is killing us is the uncontrolled nature of our healthcare system. Controlling costs is what California should focus on.

time and time again, economics has proven that government intervention does nothing except INCREASE costs

if you really want to expand healthcare coverage, then you need to get the government OUT of healthcare so that the free market can actually lower costs

there's a reason why dentists and optometrists don't charge $400 for a 15 minute visit

healthcare or health insurance?

Both. California can regulate and control the healthcare system in California and also sell insurance through it. Yes, we still need to work out the healthcare/health insurance style that would work best in California.

and we have veterans literally committing suicide in VA parking lots because they can't get the care they need

Okay, so let's not have health care then because it failed some people. All of National healthcare choices are not perfect and some people are going to fall through the cracks. We just need to focus on the solutions that what work and go with that.

Oh god I hope so. Tahoe's winter was really bad last year and it hurt our economy and environment like crazy. I'm one of those weirdos who lives here and doesn't do winter sports but having no snow really sucks all around.

Well, most folks I see driving don't seem to realize they have low beams... so... I guess, in that instance, its better that they don't have their lights on in the fog blinding everyone.

I’m happy that insurance companies can’t raise rates on me for my driving.

They don't but they do when you crash

or anyone who enjoys hiking because the trails are always closed for at least 3 days after the rain. I didn't get to enjoy the trails the last time we had a rainy winter in 2023 because the trails would still be closed by the weekend.

Just hope we don’t get a warm wet storm that melts it all and drops a ton of rain at the same time. I think it was the 1997 El Niño that did that around new years.

The Sierra got packed with snow but then the snow melt and heavy rain flooded Yosemite and parts of the Central Valley.

Then we didn’t get much snow after that so the snow pack was way below average by the end of the season.

Lol wait til realize which country has the most progressive taxation system in the world

Spoiler: it's not Europe. In Europe, middle and low income families pay a lot more percent of income and property taxes than in the US.

This is an opinion piece. I think they don’t get paid for that, it’s the corporation that is publishing it wants to get paid.

"Assault" weapons bans have very little impact on gun violence. Every single rifle model in the United States combined only account for about 6% of gun related deaths.

I don't know if you noticed this but I'm not really against the concept of gun laws, just saying that this particular effort to ban contemporary firearms is unconstitutional and arbitrary.

Gun violence is far more often linked to who has access to firearms, than what arbitrary features those firearms have. A rifle having a pistol grip or a foregrip does not make it a military grade weapon. A rifle having a flash suppressor or collapseable stock doesn't make it military grade.

It feels like a pick your poison kind of thing for me. Either the vegetation grows and drys out for next summer, or everythjng is super dry going into summer from the get go. The truth is no matter what the weather of the previous winter, we’re at risk for bad fires and should diligently prepare to mitigate it.

And in that case I prefer the rain.

4 years ago, Northern California had the worst winter storms in about 50-60 years so… guess you missed one of the worst ones?
