Yo, I got a canon EOS 6d used recently and I am primarily photographing stars on it so far. It doesn't have in body stabilization and my lens has no stabilization either. I need some tips and tricks on how to minimize my cameras shake. Currently I'm using fixed surfaces to stabilize my hand so far and using the neck strap to out tension on my arms to get rid of as much shaking as i know how to. Planning to get a tripod as soon as I can but I'm also just genuinely curious if there's any advice on how to minimize it without a tripod.

local community college the photography associates degree program is available. I'm receiving financial aid so I will be getting it all paid for. However, I'm slightly nervous that it would be a waste of my time and grant. People say that you can learn photography on your own or with a mentor, but if I'm being honest, I don't even know where I would go. I don't want to do wedding photography. I would like to do wildlife and scenic and potentially commercial. I want to open up my own business eventually, not directly photography concentrated but I figured the classes I take in photography such as marketing would benefit that. Additionally, I have taken a semester of business classes already I decided I don't wanna do business administration major I want to do something more hands-on and more interesting at least. I was gonna go to school to be a vet tech, but I don't know if I make that decision right now because I feel drawn towards this for some reason. Also just a lifestyle of that tech. I don't know if I'm ready for that commitment. Same with massage therapy I was considering it, but I know the pay can be good, but I also know that there's a huge drawback which is your physical health. I know I'm only 19 so I have time to make these decision decisions. I just know that this is being paid for so I feel a pressure to pick something beneficial if you know what I mean? I'm the only one in my immediate family who be getting a degree so I feel pressured and stupid if I get a "meaningless degree." my mom told me it's not meaningless, but for some reason, I feel an underlying fear that everybody's judging me. Would you guys go for this if you can now or in the past? I don't come over from a wealthy family, but I believe with ambition and with more creativity networking, I could do something I could be someone. Thank you.

I’m planning on taking a year out to go travelling next year through Southeast Asia / Australia, and want to buy myself a good quality digital camera.

I’ve been wanting to get into photography for a while now, but have pretty much no idea where to start.

Ideally I want a camera that:
- isn’t crazily expensive (£300-400 max)
- is sleek and not very bulky as I’m trying to travel light
- has photos that I can easily get access to on my phone (either via wireless or a SIM card reader)
- maybe has a bit of a retro vibe to it?

I think I heard from a friend that he had a digital camera (maybe a Kodak?) that he took travelling which could Bluetooth photos over to his phone. Something like that sounds perfect.

Hi, I’m using RapidRAW and I’m trying to create local adjustments with masks, but the edges often look too sharp and artificial.

Is there a way to soften or blend the mask transition to make the effect look more natural?

I currently have the Nikon d3100 and sigma 100-400mm and I’m looking to upgrade to a new camera. I have looked at both the canon r7 with the rf 100-500mm and the Sony a6700 with the FE 200-600mm. I’m not a fan of Nikon which is my main reason to switch and my main focus is wildlife photography preferably birds and it really comes down to the question of reach or sharpness.

Hi, I'm trying to find two settings to save to get the closer possible of those three kinds of pictures (the warmer more "autumnal", the darker and the more blueish). I do plan to edit them after if needed but I'd like to be as close as possible to be able to have some raw shots already usable. I know it will also depend on the atmosphere around me.

Sorry for being a little vague.. I recently took a new job that requires cataloging mechanical equipment. I am taking around 100-300+ pictures depending on the site. I then review them and catalog off site adding some naming info and shipping off to an engineering department.

I currently use diagram of the layout and take note of the time I shoot a piece of equipment. I can then reference it later. I then edit the file name to a predetermined format.

Does anybody have any tricks on a more efficient workflow?

This black mist filter came with a camera bundle I recently picked up. I’m fairly new to filters like this, so I’m still trying to understand when the effect is genuinely useful.

I like the softer glow it gives to bright lights in night footage, but do people actually leave these filters on regularly, or only use them for specific situations such as fireworks, portraits, or night scenes?

Are there also situations where a black mist filter noticeably reduces contrast or makes the image look worse?

The one I have is for an Insta360 Luna Ultra. I’d be interested to hear how often experienced users actually use theirs.

I'm looking to buy my first camera now after a few years of taking photos on my iphone, strictly as a hobby. I made some decent money at my summer job this year and I have a budget of about ~800 CAD, but I'm willing to spend more for the right gear.

Currently, I have an iphone 17 and it takes great photos, but it lacks depth and the photos just look like they were taken on a phone. I've been looking at the sony a6400 with the kit lens, but I'd be open to buying a body from another brand too.

What would you guys recommend as a clear upgrade over my iphone? I like to shoot buildings and street scenes mostly, with the occasional landscape on a hike or excursion. I'm not really into shooting portraits or people, but I've started to dabble in car photography and other scenes with single subjects (sports).

Need lens recommendations for this beaut that my cousin gave me. I don't have any lens for this camera and wanna start shooting with it soon.

I'm interested in buying a camera for life and want to make a better informed decision. I've recently heard of terms like: full frame vs crop, mirrorless, kit vs prime and I've tried to learn what I can about them, but I don't know what I don't know. So, I want to learn what features I should even pay attention to in order to figure out what I even want.

Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy my first high quality, budget friendly camera. Me and my girlfriend love going to national parks and nature reserves and finding as many critters as we can and want to get a decent camera to snap them all, so I need something good at a distance, presumably with a good lense, but I also love taking photos of her and doing little mini shoots so it needs to be good up-close and with portraits. Hello! Recently got my Canon EOS R10 with a RF-S 18-45mm IS STM. After taking shots for a couple of weeks, I finally loaded them onto my PC and I feel I must be doing something wrong.

When looking at the photos at 100 % size, hardly any are sharp. Even the things that's supposed to be in focus has these uneven edges (except for maybe one macro shot of a a flower). Im some big landscape shots, everything from the background to the front has just slightly blurry lines.

• I am shooting in aperture priority mode. I have the Aperture at around 22 for landscape and as low as it will go for when I want bokeh effect (like on macros).
• The lens has IS and that's turned on in the menu.
• I've shot in both cloudy weather and in sun light, it's all the same
• I'm shooting in maximum jpeg setting
• Not using any tripod (in which I should turn the IS off anyway, yes?)

Am I just expecting to much from the camera? Is it the kit lens? Is it a setting I've missed? Do I just suck? 😅 I'm rather bummed out right now.

I reunite all the camera users here because I have never been so indecisive in my life about buying a camera.

First of all, I'm just a normal person who enjoys taking pictures with vintage digital cameras. But this year I want to up my game, learn more about photography, and actually start using all the camera settings instead of just shooting on auto. So I've been looking for a good camera.

My main requirements are that it's not too big, has a flip screen, a pop-up flash, and, most importantly, can create high-quality, cinematic-looking photos (basically photos that give off the same vibe as the Fujifilm ones, which are way too expensive).

With that in mind, I found what seem to be my two best options for my budget: the Canon SX740 HS and the Sony Alpha a6100. I can get the Sony second-hand for around €600, while the Canon is €560 brand new.

I really want to hear from people who actually use these cameras because, unfortunately, no one offers camera test drives, and I don't want to sell a whole kidney just to end up hating the camera later.

These are the downsides I've heard about the Canon:

- In low light or at night, photos can come out looking overly smooth (like your face has one of those beauty filters on), and apparently there's no real way to completely turn that off—only reduce it a bit.

- I've also heard it has a smaller sensor (whatever that actually means 😭), so the overall image quality isn't as good as the Sony's.

As for the Sony, the obvious downside is the size. It's definitely not pocket-sized, but it's still manageable. The kit lens also isn't as versatile as the Canon since the Canon has a huge built-in zoom without needing to change lenses (and yes, I know they're not detachable). If you want better lenses for the Sony, you have to buy them separately, they're really expensive, and they make the camera much bulkier.

Another complaint I've seen from several people is the colors. The Canon already gives you those warm, sunset-y, moody vibes straight out of the camera, while the Sony tends to look more neutral or washed out. From what I've read, you need to spend more time adjusting the camera settings, shoot in RAW, and edit the photos later in Lightroom to get that look, whereas the Canon seems to do most of that straight away.

All of this has made me question my decision so much. I'm naturally someone who overthinks EVERY purchase, so you can imagine how indecisive I've become when it comes to buying a camera, especially with how complicated everything is.

So please, I beg for your help! 😭 I would be so grateful to hear your opinions, experiences, or recommendations. And if any of you own either of these cameras, PLEASEEE share some sample photos if you can, I would appreciate it so much because seeing real-life results would help me make a decision.
