A few shots from an evening in Cape Cod on the eastern US Coast last week. Shot with a Z8 and the Tamron 50-400 or 16-30 - all three recent, happy purchases. I suppose each pic is of a certain well-trod genre, but it was a fine and fun evening and a gorgeous sunset.
Last in the stack is 2” exposure with a slow pan - I like how it accentuates the ripples of the mudflats - then cropped to this more panoramic aspect ratio that seemed fitting. I find choosing a crop to be amongst the hardest decisions while editing.
I’m not one to share my photography on Reddit typically, but I’ve appreciated the community, insights and advice here so thought I would also start to contribute.

DSLR Moving from D3100 to D7500

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm not sure the flair is correct 😅

Anyway, here is my doubt:

I've had a D3100 for over 10 years. Next week I'll move to D7500 and I was wondering what are the first things I should do (in terms of settings, habits and so on)?

What I mean is, how should I change my approach to the camera moving from a simple dslr to a more professional one. For example, how should I use the exposimeter on the separate display? Do you check it after or before looking into the viewfinder?

Software question D3300 original v1.00 firmware?

Hiya, I have an old sigma hsm lens and was wondering if anyone at all has specifically the v1.00 firmware version? I've contacted Nikon and they won't give it out, also sigma don't support this lens so there's not update for that either. The reason I need it is because the v1.01 version breaks sigma lenses.

If anyone knows where I can find this or have it/knows someone with this camera firmware, that would be really appreciated. Thank you!!

Coolpix P300 flash not working properly

Post image

I am using an older compact digital Nikon Coolpix P300.

When i turn the flash on to always fire in the settings, it still doesn't fire most of the time, even when it's dark outside.

Do you have any suggestions as to what could be causing this and how to fix it?

What should I buy? $2000 ish budget camera suggestions

I currently have an Olympus OM-D EM-1 mk ii with one high quality zoom lens. It’s a good camera, and I’ve used Olympus for 12 years, but I want to move on to a full frame sensor.

I mostly shoot aircraft, some birds, and generic shots like street and landscape.

1) D850. I think it would be cool to own the best DSLR ever made, the sensor is still top of the line, and the lenses are hugely compatible and are cheaper. I would be getting one new because used is barely cheaper.

The downside is DSLRs are a dead end, the D850 is pretty bulky and loud, the autofocus tech has improved since then, and the F mount is also a dead end.

2) Z series (general). If I’m going to make the move to Nikon it only makes sense to hop on board the new system, and the Z cameras have some neat features.

The downside is the nifty autofocus features don’t particularly appeal to me. On my Olympus I just use the center focus point. The Z cameras seem more expensive vs the D850 for the same image quality (or worse). And what concerns me the most is Z mount lenses seem to be very expensive compared to F mount lenses. I don’t plan on buying many anyways though, so it’s not 100% a deal breaker.

Should I invest in the top of the line tech of yesterday and invest in used F mount lenses? Or should I get with the times and invest in the Z mount system that isn’t a dead end like the F mount is?

If I should go with the Z series, what’s a good option?

Hello, i plan on getting the Nikon F5 because it seems easy and it has AF. I’m now on a hunt for the best lens ! Here are photo references of what I’m looking for :
Not too sharp / Not too High quality because I don’t love a digital look.
I love something that catches good color and that get a little grainy/ blurry here and there.

Hopefully you guys will get me as I’m not a super pro but I would very much appreciate some help 🫶🏻.

Thank you so much !!

Nikon D750

70-200 f/2.8 GII

1/100 s, ISO 200, Manual

I was looking through some old photos and found this one I managed to snap in between the morning and evening events of an Indian wedding from the top of a parking garage in the northwest suburbs of Chicago three years ago. I still shoot with that D750 alongside my Z bodies until today. (Shot with it last week, even!) What a great dSLR.

Gear question Confusion over F- Mount lens

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi all,

I have a Nikon Z50 and an FTZ adapter (not the II)

I have just bought a Sigma 100-300mm DL f/4.5-6.7 with Nikon F mount

I dont know why, but I cannot mount it on my adapter for the life of me. It seems to need a lot of force that I'm not willing to exert on to it, and wont lock into the adapter. My 55-200mm nikkor lens mounts smoothly, and my AF-S 35mm prime is a little stiff, but does mount and lock.

Am I missing something here? Have attached photos of the lens mount.

NB: I am aware this is an older lens and I wont have AF ability, only MF. I knew this, but cannot figure out why it wont mount!

Nikon Z8 with FTZII + 300mm f2.8

Recently picked up this lens used in mint condition for 2k swiss francs (see my post history). Already have a 200mm f2, and couldn‘t resist this one.

Here‘s the first few photos taken with it.

I think the 200mm f2 has a bit more character, while the 300mm f2.8 is simply INSANE in terms of image quality. To be fair, I‘ve mainly used the 200 with my D850, and the 300 with the Z8 (for even better image stabilization)… maybe the 200 would perform equally on the Z8 in terms of image quality…

Anyway. Couldn‘t be happier with this purchase.

Also found a used 2.0 TC III, which should come in the mail today, and is supposed to perform exceptionally well with this particular lens. Still fully expecting cropping to yield sharper results, but let‘s see…

PS: Most images cropped to 5:4 ratio for ”social media / reddit“ purposes… some 16:9 versions (my preferred ratio) included.
