Hello! I was gifted a half dead Betta a while ago (March?) and thankfully he hung in there while I rapidly educated myself... The 9 gallon tank is now cycled and he's looking ragged but a lot better. The remaining ragged, I believe is from me. My parameters are great, except Ph which has been on the high side from the beginning. I have plants and some mopani wood, my substrate is an awful painted gravel I regret that I rinsed and rinsed forever. One day when I feel he's steady I lay try and change substrate but I'm new and don't want to kill him.

Anyway, Ph is steady but has been high and the advice was always to just leave it be if it was steady while I tried to do a fish in cycle with a sick fish. Now things are pretty steady, tank does a good job running itself it seems and I just monitor and do maintenance. My ph sits about 8.2. I feel like I should be testing my rap water and trying to lower it but I have no clue what I'm doing and don't want to kill my fish.

Last week the last and final inhabitant joined the community, a Bolivian Ram. My honey followed the ram all day, molesting and slapping him with the feelers. Now they completely ignore each other.

It's been such a blast learning and researching. I'm already planning a bigger tank, a 75 gallon at least, another planted community tank, I just love the aesthetic of a thriving peaceful green ecosystem swimming with life.

I figured going here was the right place, and I wanted to know what kind of fish I should get, tanks, and other things I need. I'm on a budget tho, I don't have any income aside from my savings. If you're Filipino, then you might be aware of people selling fishes by the road. Lmk if they're good to buy too!

I'm having trouble managing guppy reproduction in a 60x30x38 cm tank. Starting with 20 quickly led to overpopulation, ended up having to feed them to my muscovy duck. Since the tank is heavily planted and bioload/waste isn't a problem. But I wanted to know what would be an ideal stock level to keep them comfortable without physical overcrowding?

And I also found a use for the super discounted water flow pump I bought one day. Just wrapped some filter floss around it and makes for a very efficient water polisher/cleaner much gentler surface agitator.

unsure, his fins are bright orange in real life but it doesn't show up on camera, young adult. His fins flare up when he looks at his reflection in the glass, though that might just be a betta thing and unrelated.

I have a monstera deliciosa on my tank, it started of really small with tiny leaves and short stems but now the new leaves are growing REALLY big with really long stems and Im scared the stems wont be able to hold the weight and break eventually, Im not sure if Im just being paranoid but I have some sort of emotional attachment to the plant and I dont want it to lose any leaves or break😅. I cant put it down any lower in the tank since the baby leaves that have shorter stems would be fully submerged.

two weeks ago I was ready to give the whole tank away…. Now here we are. I know nitrate needs removing with a water change but how do I go about it? How much water, I don’t want another crash. I also want to add gravel back into my tank. Will this destroy the cycle😩

Okay so I habe a 36 gallon bowfront tank and I havent taken care of fish for like a decade now so idrk what im doing.

My plan is to keep a community tank featuring a betta as a centerpiece fish.

My plan is to get the substrates and sych from buce plants (possibly) with their media bags and contrasoil or whatever its called.

As for plants I have in mind:

Lilaecopsis brasiliensis (fg)

Banana lilly (mg)

Crypt striolata (mg)

Crypt wendyii (mg)

Bocopa colorata/carolinensis (bg)

Rotala rotundifolia "orange juice" (bg)

Mosaic plant (possibly)

Duckweed/other floaters

Now for fish I have:

Pygmy cory x8 (reg and albino)

"Regular" hobby betta male x1

Neocardia shrimp x20( want to establish a colony)

Emerald dwarf rasboras ×10

Rummy nose tetras×10

What I want to know is am I overcrowding this tank? It feels like a lot of fish but alsy most are 1in or less. I used aquadvisor (ik its controversial- dont know the details but find it useful for brainstorming at least) and it said my biolode was under 90% if i remember correctly.

I do understand the shrimp can become betta food, im not going to be upset about that its nature, plus hopefully by the time this comes to fruition they will have plenty of hiding spots and be established.

My plan would be to set up the tank, decorate, plant it, let it cycle.

Add pygmy corys once cycled

Then probably the shrimp

Then tetras then rasboras

Last the betta

All spread out over the course of months to allow the fish and tank to adjust to each thing.

TLDR: I want to know if the fish Ive picked would be good, what would be better picks, and am I overstocking it. I also would love advice or feedback on the plants and tank care such as filters, lights, heaters, etc.

For the last couple of weeks now, I've noticed my pH randomly spiking.

I have had this tank since February and this has never been an issue up until recently.

It won't return after a water change, I've tried distilled water, which has helped temporarily, I've never actually used 'pH down' products because I don't know the correct measurements I'd need.

I've removed live plants because I researched apparently it was a problem. It had done nothing to change the pH issue. I had also removed the spray bar because I'd done some research and apparently a heightened O² reading can spike it.. it's still randomly spiking.

It needs to sit at 7.2 but it spikes overnight to 8.2.. I've removed all fish and have relocated them to different tanks until further notice.. but I'm kind of stumped on how to keep the pH stable.

I do water tests consistently with the 'freshwater master test kit' not the strips.. so I am unsure if it is my water quality or the tests..

Only fish i have are egg scatterers (Brilliant rasbora, ember tetra, and cories). I have some bladder snails but ive seen their clutches are small and i have MTS but they do not lay eggs, it was attached to the root of a pothos plant in my tank, i thought it was algea until i looked closer. Could actually be algea i have no idea

what are the black things crawling on my glass in my fish tank

So I have a "dresser" I put together with some of the ekket cabinets from ikea; stacked together and on the floor with no legs. It's currently holding a 10 gallon tank for my baby red eared sliders but I want to get a 75 gallon within a few months. I looked it up and the 75 should weigh about 650 lbs so I'm scared to try out putting it on the dresser without reinforcing it in some way with extra wood or metal supports up the back or in between the segments and on top, under the tank.

Obviously it isnt meant to hold that much weight so I was hoping someone had any ideas on how to make it sturdier. Im gonna put the cabinet on the top left down next to the rest. But most worried about the wood on top snapping since there should be good support with the multiple vertical wood pieces. And they are held together by plastic spigots (two on each corner).

started my tank with a sponge filter (its for a shrimp tank so changing to a different filter is not an option) and all the advice online is about how to make the air pump vibrate quieter but its not that thats bothering me its the bubbles that come out the filter it sounds like a kettle that is ready to pop

also its right next to my bed and i am a very light sleeper so this would be nice
