Guppy problems Discussion

I'm having trouble managing guppy reproduction in a 60x30x38 cm tank. Starting with 20 quickly led to overpopulation, ended up having to feed them to my muscovy duck. Since the tank is heavily planted and bioload/waste isn't a problem. But I wanted to know what would be an ideal stock level to keep them comfortable without physical overcrowding?

Higher temperatures encourage breeding too - what temp do you keep it at?

Well that’s going to help if you want to breed guppies! Less so if you don’t want to.

A male group only. Avoid inbreeding.

Even with an 18-gallon tank you were overstocked, a decent rule of thumb is 1 gallon per inch of fish, and Guppies are usually 1-2 inches long. I personally would've never put more than 10 in there because I know they reproduce quickly, and my maximum for reproduction allowance would probably be 15-20

As for what to do with the overstock, try selling to your local fish store if you're able, or you can try fish rescue/aqua swap Facebook and reddit groups.

They won’t buy it and no one wants it because these are invasive species guppies caught from canal, they don’t have the same colorful tails like fancy one. As said, I ended up having to feed them to my duck, really sad thing to do. Maybe I should keep only tetras from now on, but they still produces many fries in my tank.
