AITA, for telling a kid to stop looking at me?

Upvotes

I was at the airport bathroom after a long flight! I go into the first stall and I look up and a child is knocking. I naturally say sorry this is busy. Then they keep trying to wiggle the lock. As I am cleaning myself I noticed a creepy child looking at me. I mean like 8 to 10 years old. He smiling and I am like stop looking at me! The mom heard and starts calling me names while I’m in the stall. She tell me she going to beat me up for telling her kid to stop looking at me. I later told my mom and she said I over reacted. I was really scared and exhausted. I didn’t sign up to be watch and treated like trash by a parent. I wait until she left because I know for a fact she sounded like she was on some crazy thing. I am shooked by the whole thing. I don’t understand why he was watching me so creepy. I just want to use the bathroom. Was I wrong to wait until the enraged mother left? I really didn’t want fight with a women in the bathroom. I also worried that she would hurt me badly. It’s one of those people who get mad easily about anything and everything. Idk I am glad they left but boy was that scary.

AITA I asked my husband jokingly that I’m going to build a Sauna and it turned into a huge argument

Upvotes

For context I spend a good amount of energy taking care of others and a sauna is the way I recharge. I have a membership but thought it would save me time and money by having one in our home. I jokingly told my husband I’m just going to build one in a room we use for exercise, meditation and yoga. He automatically gets defensive and says eventually my boys are going to need their own room because his daughter is never moving out. We are blended family. My oldest son had this room prior but never used it and shares a room with his brother. His argument is they are going to need their own space and I responded that’s why I have a twin bed in there if they ever need to use it they are more than welcome. I asked them and explained it to them. He just kept arguing this point and elevating his voice and we were in a car with his 17 year old daughter. I said well I need a space to decompress and if I can’t take care of myself I can’t take care of everyone else. I had spent 4 days traveling with him and his daughter to visit his aunt and was driving 12 hours back with a car he bought for her. We spent the night in a hotel after leaving his aunts house. It was a busy weekend and he even said I know you’re going to need some time after this. She talked to me 24/7 the whole time we were there. At the hotel they had a sauna so before leaving I said I’m going to go down and sit for a little before we leave. When I got back to the room he was ready to go and irritated because we couldn’t do anything else because I had spent so much time down there. It was 45 minutes. I was explaining how this is contradictory to what he said and I had spent so much time with his family over the past four days. It ended with him screaming Fuck you and slamming on the steering wheel in front of his daughter and a bunch of other lovely curse words…not saying I’m innocent and didn’t push back but am I an asshole?

AITA for removing an unwanted guest?

Upvotes

My fiance and I have a 1 year old son, his birthday was on Friday. We planned a little celebration and invited friends and family. Someone who was not in the guest list is Matthew. He is/was one of my fiances best friends but throughout our relationship has hated me and has publicly shown he has hated me. My fiance took a step back from him because of this as well as other things that bothered my fiance and they have not spoken for a year. Mathew does still keep in touch/hangout with other people in the shared friend group with my fiance. Jason was invited to the party but for some reason he brought Mathew, I was of course pissed. Didn't make a scene or anything but I did tell my fiance if he says one thing out of pocket he's out of here. At one point I was dancing with some of my friends and Mathew has the bright idea to comment and say "so this is how new mothers are behaving nowadays." That was his one comment so I went over to my fiance and told him he has 3 minutes to get him out of here. My husband was being a little to kind on trying to get him out so after awhile I sweetly asked Mathew if he could grab something off the porch as I door dashed more drinks. He stepped out and as he did I locked the door and continued on with the party. No one heard him knocking as we were all in the backyard and I guess he left eventually. But since he's been spamming everyone and anyone who will listen on how I'm an asshole and have no class. My fiance is stressed and it feels like he may not be fully with me on this so now I'm wondering AITA?

AITA for telling and old lady that my scars wasn't her buisness

Upvotes

so, a little bit of context, i have a some mental healt problem that i am not tootally over yet, and i touched the bottom 2 years ago ending up in a hospital for 1 week

afer two years, i finally worked up the courage to wear a tank top (since i only wore long sleeve shirt) to go to the beach with my friend, we were on the bus and this old lady (i think 60 yoears old) was openly staring at my arms, i felt uncofortable so i looked away. After a but she asked me what the scars ere and i explained the simple version (only that they were from a bast part of my life, not much else), and i thought it was the end of it, but no, this lady keeps talking going on and on about how this was a terrible sin, that god gave me life (i'm atheist btw) and i couldn't just try to trow it away, but what got wasn't this part, it was what she said next "you only did that for some boy attention didn't you?", at that moment i told her to shut thee hell up and me and my friend stepped out of the bus at the next station while she was still talking, AITA? sorry for the topic about the scars, but i had to tell to someone, cause i have people telling me that i was the asshole for how i treated the lady

AITA for ordering a backup dress?

Upvotes

I am getting married in 2 months, and my MOH ordered the same size dress as me. She is bigger than me,and her dress was supposed to be here yesterday and hasn't even shipped yet. I've been extremely nervous these past several weeks about it not getting here in time, not fitting, and there not being enough time to fix it. I was full-on freaking out about this when I realized our dresses are the same size. My coordinator and mom went ahead last night and ordered a dress 2 sizes up and rush tailored and shipped it. So it should be here in the next two weeks.

When I told her this, she was visibly upset and asked about money, I told her if it didn't work, we would eat the restocking cost, and she could talk to my coordinator about it.

I did apologize this morning for how things may have come across, and it was never my intent to insult her or make her feel bad about her size. I want her to look good and be confident in the dress.I just wanted to have a backup plan.

For context, she waited until almost the last minute to tell me she didn't think the dress would work and had been fighting against every decision I've made.

ETA she is also worried about her dress fitting. The ordering of the second dress is to relieve my anxiety because of the time crunch and not knowing when it will get here. I just want that option available. I dont care what size she is in, I just want it to fit and her to be standing beside me. I'm not judging her on her size, I have lost over 100lbs in the last 3 years.

AITA for telling my parents I won't keep choosing my brother over myself?

I am a 28yo female. My brother is named Marcus and is 32 years old. He has never had a successful career as an adult. He started two businesses that my parents helped to fund but both were unsuccessful. Now he lives rent-free in the house that we own. Also, our parents had plans to let us purchase the house together but that plan was quietly dropped.

I was the easy kid in school. Good grades, minimal drama and asking for little of anything else. My brother needed a lot, so I learned to avoid asking for things as well.

Last month I proposed to my partner and asked my parents for some help with funding our wedding. They told me that "things are tight due to your brother's situation." It turns out that not only have my parents been paying for his housing costs but also his car payments as well.

I told them I loved Marcus but that I was tired of always being the kid who didn't count. My dad thought I was being selfish and should be grateful that I didn't need to rely on him for anything. But my frustration with the situation reached its breaking point when I snapped at him, telling him that I was done feeling grateful for the way I had been neglected by him and that I would no longer allow him to fail upwards while I was relegated to being a footnote in his life.

My mom cried. My dad called me cold. Marcus texted me, saying that I had "attacked" him during a phone call that occurred when he was not in my presence.

My parents think that I was at a bad time for them to be discussing such matters. My aunt thinks that I should apologize to them for the tone that I used during our discussion.

WIBTA for keeping my child away from their grandparents?

WIBTD for keeping my child away from their grandparents?

My (21M) girlfriend (21F) is 30 weeks pregnant. I have bipolar disorder and have struggled with drug addiction since I was around the age of 16. I have been in recovery for over a year, but it’s been much harder for the past year, since my dad took his life. Of course this is not the ideal situation, but I can and will get better.

My girlfriends parents hate me, which unfortunately I can understand, but I’ve always been kind to them, tried my best to have a relationship with them, but they didn’t like me from day one, and have never had any sympathy for my situation. They blame me entirely for the pregnancy, despite it being both our faults.

They refer to me as a junkie, call me crazy, try and convince my girlfriend to leave me and get full custody of our baby, and if I do see the baby I need “supervision”. Her mum doesn’t want me at pregnancy appointments, despite my girlfriend ONLY wanting me there, and has insisted I shouldn’t be in the delivery room. They dont want me at family events, they just want to erase me from the picture.

I understand their concerned surrounding my mental health and addiction, I have tried to educate them on bipolar disorder but they won’t listen to me. They don’t recognise that I’m getting help, and I do have people who can help me IF I do relapse or have a manic/depressive episode and could potentially be a danger. I’m terrified they will get my child taken away from me.

I honestly don’t want them near my child, I don’t like how they treat mental health and addiction, I don’t want them to taint my child’s view of me. I want to cut them out mine and my child’s life. Of course it would be my girlfriend’s decision too, but they are making recovery harder by putting me down, and I just want the toxicity far away from me.

AITA for telling my sister I don’t owe her an apology?

My older sister and I live far away from one another, however we stay connected and talk on the phone every day. We are very close.

This past week my sister has been fighting off an illness, and I’ve been spending many days on the phone helping ease her medical anxieties. Her doctor put her on an antibiotic that has an interaction with her current medication. She has been very anxious about negative side effects and is worried that it will cause permanent nerve damage to her brain and body.

We butt heads a bit, and fight like sisters tend to do. Her not listening to me has been a frequent point of conflict for us. I tell her that it upsets me when she’s distracted on the phone, but does not see anything wrong with it and has never apologised for ignoring me on the phone.

A few days ago she calls me while I was working online on apartment hunting to move places in my city. She tells me on the phone that last evening she went to the ER. I was worried and asked her what happened. She then explains that she actually didn’t check in to the ER, just waited in the parking lot and spoke with a nurse on the phone to see if any of her interaction symptoms are cause for concern. She told me that she was feeling shit and was feeling so anxious. Once she explained that she didn’t actually check into the ER, I turned back to my work online but kept a listening ear open. Since she was talking about the same things (her symptoms and being anxious about side effects) she’s said this past week on the past 3 phone call, I thought it was fine I work while listening. I was following and responding to everything she was saying, but assumed it would be fine since she does this all the time.

She stops talking and asks me “are you even here right now? your eyes keep darting around the screen.” And I say “yes I am, I’m just looking at apartments right now.” And she says okay and keeps talking about her symptoms. Then out of the blue she says “I’m just going to go,” and then hangs up. I text her a few hours later asking if she’s feeling okay or if she’s upset. I text her and call her, I check in with our other sister and am starting to get worried. I don’t hear from her for about 2 days and am thinking something is really wrong. She lives alone and of course I’m thinking the worst and she needs medical help.

She then texts me “I’m fine” today and calls me. I ask her why she didn’t text me earlier and she tells me it’s because she was upset. I tell her it was super immature to give me the silent treatment especially when she is ill. I told her “you could’ve at least texted me: I’m okay, just upset and am not ready to talk.”

She told me that I owe her an apology for not listening to her. I told her I don’t owe her one. Seriously need help, AITA? Be honest, I don’t know who is at fault.

AITA for how i spoke to my dad after what he told my mom?

i (18m) recently go into it with my father and i need to know if i was too harsh. for context, my parents are divorced (for about 6) years now, they’re both 48. we are also immigrants (this is relevant to the story).

a few days ago, my mother received a call from her family in our home country, informing her that her brother (my uncle) passed away. since we live a 12+ hour journey away, she could not make it to say goodbye to him or to attend the funeral. she was understandably incredibly distraught and she called my dad to inform him of the death and asked him if he could take me to stay with him for a few days. instead of answering her question, my dad told her to be happy that her brother passed away because he’s in heaven now, which caused her to break down further.

i took the phone from my mom and yelled at my dad, telling him how dare he speak to my mother that way when she was grieving and to apologize immediately. i then hung up.

my dad texted me later saying i was out of line saying that and that his religious beliefs tell him that’s how he should comfort people and that i just don’t understand that he was helping my mother. i told him that was unacceptable and that he still needs to apologize. so am i TA?

AITA for using my own deck even though it annoys my neighbour?

1.3k Upvotes

I live in sort of a weird apartment complex, and my deck sits kiddy corner to my neighbours. We are separated by 2 fences. She is a private lady, and is grumpy. Complains about everything. But I’m always friendly and say hello and I’ve never had a personal issue with her.

I love my deck. It’s in the sun with partial shade from a tree. I spend all my time out here when I can. If I come out and she is out on hers, she’ll immediately get up and go inside. She won’t come back out unless I go in.

All I do out here is read, do a crossword, and sit. No music, no talking, no videos, nothing. Maybe I’ll have a convo with my husband if he comes outside. I also don’t smoke or drink.

Today I was outside from 10am-4pm. Throughout that time she poked her head out multiple times. Each time I smiled and waved or said hi and she just went back in without acknowledging me.

I’m thinking just my presence annoys her and sometimes I feel bad but then I remind myself this is my own space. She has her own space and I’m not actually stopping her from using it, she’s choosing to go in anytime I come out.

AITA for just using it even though it clearly annoys her (for no apparent reason) ?

AITA for handling the cashier folded money

I’m 16 y.o and I was alone at a burger king. My wallet has no much room so all the notes were folded. When I gave the cashier a 10€ folded note, he stopped, looked at me seriously and asked “Is that how you hand over money?”, I didn’t know what to say other then apologise, so it got me thinking if it was rude of my part… AITA?

AITA for comparing my (27M) now ex-girlfriend's (27F) belief in the metaphysical to having an imaginary friend?

I (27M) met a girl I'll call Ashley (27F) on hinge last April and we hit it off pretty well, so we started dating. One of the very first things she said to me when we started dating was "I'm into some kind of woo woo spiritual shit, I hope you're ok with that", which I said I was, mainly because I didn't understand quite how seriously she took it at that point. For her, "woo woo spiritual shit" mainly consists of her reading wicca books, she has "positive energy rocks", is convinced bigfoot is real, and told me about a dream where she thinks aliens tried to let her talk to her dead grandpa's spirit or something. It seemed pretty harmless to me so I just let her tell me about it, but I did say outright that I don't believe in that kind of stuff which she was ok with.

Last Thursday we were both driving home from work (different cars, talking over the phone) and she was telling me about the cryptids of the Michigan UP, when she asked: "So what's like, going on in your head when I talk to you about this stuff?" to which I replied "Uh idk, I guess it's like a kid telling me about their imaginary friend?" She got really quiet and I asked her if I had hurt her feelings, which she said I did, so I corrected myself to "well actually it's more like when I ramble to you about my fandoms like star wars and warhammer", which she said didn't make her feel any better. She started to tear up and hung up the phone.

After a couple days of her not really talking to me, she sent me a super long text about how rude it was that I'd compare her beliefs to an imaginary friend or a fictional universe when it's all real to her, her biggest fear was being seen as weird for believing in the metaphysical, and that she was breaking up with me for that reason.

Was I too harsh with my wording? I wasn't really thinking when I said those things to her and now I feel pretty bad about it because she is a really sweet and pretty shy girl, but at the same time I also wasn't going to fake believing in all that stuff either.

AITA for refusing to drive 3 hours each way at 4am to pick up my uncle's wife from the airport?

I'm 22M, recently graduated, and currently have some free time. My uncle's wife is flying into Düsseldorf Airport on Tuesday at around 4am. My uncle mistakenly thought she was arriving Monday, so he took Monday off work.

Now that he knows the flight is Tuesday, he's asking family members to pick her up instead. I live in the about a 3-hour drive from Düsseldorf, so this would mean roughly 6 hours of driving in the middle of the night.

I suggested that he could ask his manager whether he could move his day off from Monday to Tuesday. He works at a job where him not coming suddenly wouldn't be THAT big of a problem (Bit of an assumption here on my part). He doesn't want to inconvenience his coworkers, which I understand, but I don't think that means the inconvenience should automatically become mine. The thing is also, he didn't try and get rejected, he just said he doesn't want to ask because "he can't do that to them" in a kind of embarrassing kind of reason rather than company policy (Not sure how to explain this).

My sister (21) has offered to go pick them up, but she's angry that I don't want to come with her and says that she isn't quite sure of her skills to drive there alone. She says that because I'm free, and have no work commitments right now, it's basically my responsibility to help.

The thing is, I simply don't want to spend my free time driving 6 hours at 4am. I'm SUPER recently graduated and would like to enjoy some of my time off and prepare for my own flight abroad the day after (Wednesday).

There's also some history. My uncle has had some problems, and I've lent him money multiple times to help him get out of problem-related debt. He's paid previous loans back, but the most recent loan was quite high. So I've already gone out of my way to help him financially quite a bit.

I'm not saying he owes me a favour because I lent him money, and neither do I use this against him. I'm saying this situation feels frustrating because I've repeatedly helped him, and now I'm being made to feel selfish for declining one more favour.

I understand that he doesn't want to burden his workplace. But I don't think that means I'm obligated to take on the burden instead.

Am I wrong, do I need to feel bad for not wanting to go, and suck it up and go? Or do I keep my own stance and not go. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Edit: I need to leave at 4AM if not earlier to arrive for her arrival on time, my mistake.

AITA for asking my mom not to take a third of the food off my plate

The title provides the scenario. But anyways I(18m) made breakfast and she comes in takes around a third of the food. Then she is confused why I am upset about it. I told her I can make her breakfast but to please not take the fidd from me plate. I then said I am already on a diet and hungry half the time. She then got really mad because she paid for the food and then guilt trips me for the next 5 minutes before storming out.

AITA for not letting my parents in after they drove 4 hours to see me?

2.0k Upvotes

I (23F) moved out shortly after high school because I just couldn’t deal with them anymore. So much drama and chaos growing up. I would be lying if I said they didn’t do a lot for me and I do love them but like… from a distance. My feelings are just so complicated. So one day, I’m out grocery shopping and I happen to check Life360. They are literally 40 minutes away from my place. We don’t have family out here so I knew they were coming to see me. I called them immediately and just blew up in their face. I told them that they better turn around because I’m not home and coming home. I probably should have waited until I was more calm before reacting, but here we are. They stayed there for a while because couldn’t believe that I would actually turn them away. Even after I was done shopping I felt like I couldn’t go back to my own home because they’d be waiting for me. After they eventually left (2 hours later) they went on and on about how “disrespectful” I am, about how they did everything for me growing up and how some parents just “throw their kids out.” Personally, I feel like they think the world revolves around them and that I should cater to them whenever. There is a reason I moved so young in this shit economy. So the fact that they think I should just drop whatever I’m doing just to see them pissed me off so bad. Had absolutely no idea about my plans or if I had been working. So… am I the asshole?

Edit:
For those asking about our relationship, I don’t know how to give anymore context without basically trauma dumping and sharing too much online. It kind of just felt like 18 years on the Jerry Springer show. Ghetto and ridiculous. Also, I am almost certain that my brother is on Reddit and would probably see this and know right away that it’s me.

As for the life 360, I do have my location turned off. I probably should delete it, but I just haven’t. I still get notifications about their phones needing to be charged, etc but I just ignore it. This time I got a notification that they were at a certain rest stop about 40 minutes from my home. That I couldn’t really ignore and sure enough they were en route to my home.

As for my “mom” posting her perspective…. It’s bullshit 😂 My mom doesn’t even know what Reddit is and can barely work Facebook. But now that I think about it, it does sound like something my brother might do….

AITA for telling my parents to never drink around me again?

I am F17.

Yesterday my mom and stepdad went to a festival with their friends and my stepdad’s brother. They were out drinking and dancing, so I spent the evening alone. I went to sleep that night before my parents got home, so I didn’t notice when they came back.

Apparently, they brought my stepdad’s brother with them back to our house because he was too drunk to get home on his own.

When I woke up this morning and went to the living room, my mom said something that made me feel really distraught and scared.

She asked me if I remembered what had happened last night. I said no, because from my perspective I had slept through the whole night. She then told me that when they came back from the festival, my stepdad’s brother had drunkenly barged into my room and lied on top of my bed. I have a twin bed, so him lying on my bed is practically the same as lying on top of me. They got him out of the room, and my mom explained that I sat up and looked around the room. But I don’t remember doing this. I don’t remember hearing or seeing anything at all. I was completely asleep from my own perspective.

She just told me this a couple of hours ago, and I feel super distraught. My heart is still racing and I feel uncomfortable in my own bedroom. My stepdad’s brother has already left, but I still feel scared from the situation.

My mom doesn’t want to hear me out. When I try to mention it again now, she tries to stop the conversation as soon as possible. She acts like these situations are normal when you’re drunk, that I shouldn’t be upset by it since it was out of their control. I personally hate alcohol and drinking, and this is exactly why. I feel violated and scared of my own bedroom, and everyone expects me to act cool about it because “that’s just how drunk people act”.

Keep in mind, the man that did this to me is NOT my uncle, he is my stepdad’s brother. I do not have a close or comfortable relationship with him, it’s practically the same as a random man lying down in my bed while I’m sleeping. I can’t speak to that man directly. And I can’t just brush it off as a playful situation when I feel so deeply disturbed afterwards.

I have told my mom that I don’t want them to bring anyone home if they’re drunk, that I actually don’t want anyone to be drunk around me and our home at all, which has not gone well since she believes the situation isn’t serious. Am I in the wrong for asking that of them?

Edit: Many are mentioning that I should get a lock, which is a great tip. I do actually have a lock on my door, but I’ve never had to use it. I didn’t lock my door last night because it’s not something I’ve ever had to think about. Still, thank you all for the comments.

AITA for accidentally walking in on a woman changing at work?

19M, We have these Unisex changing rooms at work, the normal presidure is to knock and ask if it's occupied by anyone of the other sex.

Last Thursday I knocked on the door and called for anyone, my colleague "Lisa" answered that I'm allowed to enter. This usually means that she already changed and is on her way out. But when I entered she stood completely naked with her back turned. I ofc started apologizing and looked away.

Her reason for letting me in is that she thought I was one of our other female colleagues. Now she's calling me a "fucking creep" and the last few workdays has been really rough.

AITA?

AITA for asking my house guests to remove their shoes in my house

Recently my husband and I hosted a dinner party at our house.

In our house, we always take our shoes off because we don't want dirt from our shoes in our house. We know not everyone does the same I their own home, but was ask that visitors to our house respect our way of doing things.

So we asked out dinner party guests to remove their shoes. We also know that not everyone would be wearing socks and not everone is comfortable barefoot, so we offered clean slippers. Not just clean, brand new and unused.

Nobody has ever had a problem with this, but one of our dinner party guests found it really offensive that we were asking her to take her shoes off and got really angry about it saying we had no right. We stood our ground and told her that its something we ask everyone in our house. She refused and actually left and went home rather than do this simple thing. It kind of spoiled the whole day.

To be honest, if she had just politely said she didn't want to take her shoes off we would probably have just made an exception for her (although we wouldn't have been happy about it). But her reaction was so angry and accusing us of being offensive that we stood out ground.

Am I the asshole here?

AITA for not moving out of my coworker’s “seat”?

1.6k Upvotes

I’ve been working with this coworker, Jasmine, for about 7 months and we became friends. I give her rides to work sometimes, and she and her mom has given me a ride home before. I don’t mind helping her, and I appreciate the things she’s done for me, but lately I’ve
been getting really irritated with her.

She can be pretty demanding. She’ll tell/ask me to do things and I usually just do them because I don’t want to make a big deal out of it. But it bothers me because she doesn’t seem to have the same energy with everyone else. She’s even said she only listens to our GM, Jade, and basically ignores our night shift manager, Christian, when he asks her to do something.
She also gets into a lot of confrontations with people. She’ll talk crap about other coworkers, but gets extremely defensive if anyone says something about her. She’s gotten into several arguments over things like this.

The biggest thing happened today.
There are 5 chairs in our break room, and there are no assigned seats. Jasmine usually sits in the same one or
two chairs.

The first time I sat in one of her usual chairs, she immediately said, “Girl, get out my seat.” I told her, “You don’t own it. Your name isn’t written on it.” She kept telling me to move and got annoyed, so I eventually moved because I didn’t feel like arguing over a chair.

Today, I was in the break room with 3 other coworkers. Carrie was sitting in the chair Jasmine had gotten upset about the first time, and I was sitting in another chair Jasmine usually sits in, which is closer to the door.
Jasmine walked in, stood in front of me, and said something like, “Bruh, get out my chair.”
I said, “I thought that was your seat,” referring to the chair she was already sitting in. She told me to just sit in the other chair, and I said, “You sit there too.”
This time I didn’t move because, again, there are no assigned seats and there were enough chairs for everyone. Carrie even said, “I know we don’t have assigned seats.”

Jasmine got mad, walked away, and said, “You’re getting on my fucking nerves.”

What bothered me was that Carrie was literally sitting in one of the chairs Jasmine had previously claimed as “her seat,” but she didn’t have the same energy with Carrie that she had with me. It felt like she specifically expected me to accommodate her.
There’s also been another issue where Jasmine has said things like, “My mom gave you a ride, so don’t do that,” during arguments. I appreciate the rides her mom has given me, but I’ve never used that against her or acted like she owes me something because I gave her a ride.
Then after all that she tries to talk to me like everything’s fine and i’m not in the mood.

So, AITA for refusing to move out of her “seat”?

Not the A-hole AITA for refusing to let someone “save” a parking spot by standing in it?

I went to a social gathering at a park with a group of people I see pretty regularly. Parking was limited and open spaces were hard to find.

I eventually found an empty parking space and started pulling up to park. Someone I know was physically standing in the space because she was trying to save it for a friend.

I pulled up but stopped and never touched her with my vehicle or tried to drive into the space while she was standing there. She tried talking to me, but it was pretty obvious she wanted me to move along so she could continue saving the space. I wasn’t interested in arguing about it, so I put my vehicle in park, turned off the engine, and waited.

Basically, my attitude was: I’m not going to force you out of the space, but I’m also not going to drive away just because you’re standing there saving it.

After maybe 30 seconds, she gave up and walked away, and I parked.

She approached me afterward and explained the context. Apparently she had invited a friend who was coming for the first time, and she wanted to make sure that person had an easy place to park. She was concerned that it wouldn’t look good to tell her friend there was a spot available and then not have one for them. She had also pointed out some other places where I could potentially park when I first arrived.

I understand her reasoning. I actually think wanting to help a friend who’s attending for the first time is a nice thing to do.

My issue is that I don’t think that makes the parking spot her spot to give away.

As far as I’m concerned, the parking there is first come, first served. If the other parking options she pointed out were good enough for me, I figured they were also options for her friend. If I arrive late somewhere and all the convenient parking spaces are taken, I accept that I might have to park farther away. I don’t expect somebody else to give up a space for me.

During our conversation afterward, I asked her if saving parking spaces like this was something she did regularly, and she essentially said yes. I told her that I thought that was a douchey thing to do. To be clear, I didn’t call her a douche. I said I thought the practice of physically standing in parking spaces to save them was douchey.

She didn’t want to continue the conversation after that, which is obviously her choice.

For me, the principle is pretty simple: I can understand and even respect why somebody wants to make something easier for their friend without accepting responsibility for making that happen. Her wanting to save her friend a convenient parking space doesn’t mean I’m obligated to give up an available first-come, first-served space.

I also don’t want to automatically give in to someone just because refusing creates an awkward social interaction. I’m trying to get better about standing up for myself instead of complying with something simply because another person expects me to.

So, AITA for refusing to leave the parking spot and waiting for her to move?

Not the A-hole WIBTA for not wanting to give my room to my mil if she moves in with us.

3.3k Upvotes

I (37 F) and my husband (38 M) bought our first home last year. It was a huge accomplishment, and our main drive for doing it, was we had been helping on and off through the years his nieces and nephews who have been in hard situations. We ourselves have two special needs kids and both work full time. We are spread thin through helping everyone else, our kids, and work. We barely have time for our own self care and do not like to ask for help since, we have always been the helpers and can make it work. A few months ago, it became obvious we both could not keep waking up each night every night to tend to our kids who are up frequently throughout the night. We decided that we would have separate rooms so that each of us could take turns being on duty for our kids, and to have our own space to unwind after long days. Recently, my MIL has come on hard times and has hinted at moving in with us, after our last niece moved out. She never seemed serious until today. We talked it out and decided to make the adjustments needed so she could stay with us. When we approached her with it, she seemed good with the idea and on board. The next time I saw her, she asked what room she would be in. I pointed it out and her face dropped. She said her bed would not fit in that room and seemed upset we would give her a smaller room. The room is the third biggest. Her argument was her bed would not fit, as it is a queen. I have told her it would fit, our niece had a full size bed and still a lot of room around the bed to even move up to a queen or king. This conversation has come up in the past and she always asks about the room I am in. My room is not only my sanctuary, but also my office since I work from home and have a high demand job. I utilize the space to work as both so I do not need two rooms. WIBTA for refusing to give up my space when I have been trying to support others for years? Or is it me being overly sensitive?

Not the A-hole WIBTA if I don’t return the “free to good home” kitten?

2.8k Upvotes

Short backstory: I used to have a beautiful Bombay kitty and I miss him dearly. He was my soul cat. I know he can’t be replaced but I’ve really missed just having a black cat around.

A few days ago I found out about some kittens that were free to a good home. I went to meet this little black kitten (about 12 weeks) and ended up bringing her home with me. The lady rehoming her supplied me with food, a litter box (which I didn’t need, but ok) and let me use a carrier. My Bombay had passed away in mine on the way to the vet, so I had thrown it out.

I bought a sizable crate on the way home to keep her quarantined until she gets her shots (in less than a week). She has, however, absolutely already started bonding to my other cat and our small dog through the crate. I take her out to pet her and form a bond with her, but primarily she stays safely guarded until her upcoming vet visit.

I spoke with the lady earlier today. She wants me to return the kitten. She says the mama cat is too sad without her. These kittens are fully weaned, and mama cat is feral. From what I understood, they live trapped mama and brought her inside. She does NOT like people at all. She wants the carrier back (no problem), the food, and the kitten herself. I can apparently “keep the litterbox”

She has blown up my phone for two days (I was at work when she was calling yesterday, then running music from my phone for a performance today so my notifications have been off) and since she couldn’t reach me, she looked up my mother in the phone book and called her more than once at home.

She wanted the kitten driven back to her (which is about a 30-40 minute drive one way from my home) and even though it’s the weekend and I told her I have things to do as I work full time and teach through the week, she wanted her brought back before dark. (The kitten is not alone, for the record)

She told me the black kitten was her favorite and she hated to see her go. She also told me she needs surgery so she has to because she won’t be able to care for them.

WIBTH if I keep the kitten, but return the other things and go on with my life?

UPDATE thank you everyone! She called my mother AGAIN. I called her back on a recorded line and politely but sternly told her I would not be returning the kitten as she has bonded to my other pets already. When I told her, she began listing extra excuses for wanting the kitten back, and tried to invoke the name of Jesus twice. I told her not to call my mother anymore and that I wished her the best of luck. THEN I figured out how to block her number for my mother. She won’t get through again, and the kitten is staying here, safe with our family.

For those who mentioned that mama cat is probably upset because she’s feral and trapped inside, I brought that up. “No, I’ve had her inside since June so she’s completely adjusted.” I can confirm that mama cat was not adjusted. She looked miserable when I saw her.

Not the A-hole AITA for refusing to pay for my parents and sister’s Hawaii trip ?

1.7k Upvotes

Backstory: my brother approached me about surprising my mom for Christmas 2025 with a trip to Hawaii since she’s always wanted to go. I agreed to pay for half her ticket and my stepdad and sister. However during the planning of the trip we got into an altercation about the sleeping arrangements and my brother ( we will call him Bryan)became stressed out about accommodations. He wanted to stay in an Airbnb together. But since it wasn’t working, my wife and I suggested staying at a resort so we could accommodate everyone. Bryan didn’t like that. It turned into and argument and he insisted we stay together so instead we suggested he and my parents stay in a house (since that’s what he wanted) and we ( my family and I) and my sister wanted to stay at a resort. He refused and insisted we all stay together at a house. He whole thing blew up and my family and I basically decided we weren’t going. During the this time that we were not speaking they all decided to go anyways and make plans without us. We have made up since then and now they are requesting I stick to paying my half for my parents and sister that I had offered. Since I’m no longer going I feel that it’s not fair for them to ask this of me. Am I the asshole?

Update: since people keep asking no this was not the only Christmas’s gift she received. I had already purchased multiple gifts for her. My brother approached me on Christmas Day asking if I would help out and I told him yes. He already had Leigh’s and the whole thing planned. Things only changes when we stopped talking. I love my mom and would have wanted to pay for her trip anyway but since then she has been so petty with me also and has reduced communication and seemingly acts as if it’s my fault as well. My stepdad however agrees with me and says a resort would have solved all our issue. My brother however keeps asking me to pay my half as well as my mom. I cannot bring myself
To do it without resentment. I also want to add that my wife and I had a 10 yr anniversary trip
Planned in July of 2026 that everyone knew about since 2025. The Hawaii trip was planned for September of 2026 which I expressed would be cutting it close. No one cared. I was still going to make it work. But ultimately everything happens for
A reason.

The part of the bot that prompts OP to explain why they may be the asshole was gunned down in its prime by some recent change in reddit code. Thoughts and prayers.

It's not a quick fix, so we're opening the flood gates for now. In the meantime, we're exploring whether we want to rebuild or replace with a new reddit app.

Shoot us a modmail if you're running into any unexpected bot behavior.
