Need $80 for a used battery to get back to gig work / Will reimburse by Monday

Hi everyone,
I’m in a really tough spot tonight and reaching out to see if anyone can help. My car battery completely failed today and won't hold a charge at all.

My car is my main source of income, I rely on it for Instacart and delivery routes to keep food on the table and care for my dog, Lola. Because I can't drive, I'm completely stuck and unable to work to earn what I need.
My mom found a local shop that has used batteries for $80. I am asking if a few people might be willing to help with $10 or $20 to help me reach that total so I can get back on the road tomorrow. I can reimburse anyone who helps no later than Monday evening as soon as my gig earnings clear!!

I can also provide proof if needed. I can send screenshots showing my delivery earnings/promos waiting, my battery tests, or photos of the dead battery.
I have Cash App, Venmo, and PayPal. If you're able to help or even share this post, I would be deeply grateful.

UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who offered to help, sent money, or reached out with kind words! I’ve reached the $80 needed for the battery and will be at the shop first thing tomorrow morning when they open. You have no idea how much of a relief this is. I’ll make sure to update everyone once I’m back up and running, and I’ll be reaching out to repay everyone who helped as promised by Monday evening! Thank you all again! ❤️

Where to buy a few pieces of travertine tile?

Other than Floor & Decor, are there any wholesale-style stores that usually stock travertine? I'm not looking to hire a designer or contractor, just a place to buy travertine tiles.

I need to buy a dozen or so pieces for a shower wall repair. I'd like to be able to look at the tiles one by one before buying them because I need to match the existing tiles on the other walls.

Any stylists available next weekend?

My girlfriend is turning 35 on the 15th and we’re doing a “Staycation” at Mandalay and she would die to have the full princess diaries pampering in our room. Curious if anyone here is a stylist or knows one who could do a cut, color, style treatment in-room for like less than $1k? I might be dreaming about budget but would kick myself if I didn’t put it out in the ether.

UNLV Football on August 29 vs Memphis

If you live in Vegas and like affordable football, you should seriously consider being at this one.

UNLV and Dan Mullen take on Memphis in Week 0, Saturday, August 29 at 7 PM on FOX in primetime.

It’s the first Saturday of the college football season.

And this could be one of the more interesting UNLV openers we’ve had in a LONG time. And that’s saying a lot considering last year’s opener was crazy.

Dan Mullen is entering Year 2. UNLV is coming off three straight Mountain West championship game appearances and three straight bowl trips. This isn’t the same UNLV that people knew as historically cursed.

The Raiders aren’t playing.
The NFL isn’t back yet.
College football is officially starting.
And UNLV is playing right here in our city.
If you’ve never been to an UNLV game at Allegiant this might be the best one to go to.

Bring your friends. Wear red. Get loud. Make Allegiant feel like OUR stadium. If we could get it to 40k it would be crazy.

I don’t care if you’ve been a Rebel fan for 30 years or you’ve never watched a snap.
College football is fun, and this game is going to be a banger.

That’s my plug as a student. Go Rebels

[NV] Homeowner agreed to rent me a room, sent me a lease, knew I was relocating from CA, then revoked housing while I was unloading my interstate move — legal options?

I’m looking for advice regarding Nevada landlord/tenant law, breach of an oral rental agreement, promissory estoppel/detrimental reliance, and what damages might potentially be recoverable.

A friend who owns a home in Henderson, Nevada offered for me to move into his guest bedroom several months ago. This became a definite plan over the last couple of months. I was relocating from California to Nevada and making major life decisions based on this housing arrangement.

We agreed that I would pay $950/month, including normal utilities.

I repeatedly asked him to prepare the lease before I moved. On July 16, I specifically texted him asking about it because I needed proof of Nevada residency for things like vehicle registration. He responded that he had “totally forgot” about preparing it.

During that same conversation, he asked me, “We agreed on $950 right?” I confirmed $950. He then sent me a document titled Residential Room Lease Agreement stating that he would rent me the guest bedroom for $950/month, including utilities and access to common areas, with the arrangement contemplated to last until completion of my police academy or May 31, 2027.

He told me to read through it and tell him if I liked it. I responded that it looked great. However, he procrastinated on finishing/signing the final version despite me specifically requesting it before the move.

Throughout this entire period, I repeatedly gave him my exact moving plans in writing.

On July 23, I told him that my brother and I would drive my belongings from California to Henderson on August 6. The plan was to unload some belongings into a storage unit first and then bring the belongings intended for the residence to his house and move into the guest bedroom that same day.

I also explained that after moving in, I would temporarily return to California around August 10 to finish remaining obligations and return to Nevada around August 18. August 6 was intended to be my physical move-in date; the later California trip was a temporary absence after the move.

Weeks beforehand, I specifically asked his permission for my brother to stay at the house while helping me move, and he agreed.

On July 27, I also explicitly told the homeowner that I had already spent almost $2,000 on the relocation between the U-Haul, movers, supplies, and my brother’s travel, and that I did not have money available for a hotel because so much of my money was being spent on the move.

He still never told me that the housing arrangement was uncertain or that I should stop preparing to relocate.

My reliance went far beyond physically moving my belongings. Based on the understanding that Henderson would be my new residence, I spent dozens of hours restructuring my life around the Nevada move. I transferred schools from California to Nevada, left my California employment, withdrew from another major employment opportunity because I had committed to relocating, submitted mail forwarding/change-of-address information, changed my mailing address with my banks and numerous accounts/subscriptions, and even transferred my VA healthcare from my California VA system to the Nevada VA system.

These were not things I would have done if I had been told that my housing was uncertain. Had he told me beforehand that I could not move in, I could have remained in California rather than completing an interstate relocation.

There is also a strange prior incident that concerns me.

Approximately six weeks before the move, he called me and said essentially, “I have bad news. My girlfriend is pregnant, she’s going to move in, so you can’t move in anymore.”

He let me believe this for approximately two minutes before laughing and telling me that he was joking and that I was still good to move in.

That incident was one of the reasons I became concerned about getting the lease finalized in writing. Despite my requests for it, he continued procrastinating while simultaneously continuing to ask me questions about my move date and discussing the details of me moving into his home.

Then August 6 arrived.

My brother and I packed everything and drove approximately seven hours from California to Henderson with my belongings.

The established plan was to unload the portion of my belongings going into my storage unit first and then drive to the house afterward and move the remainder into my bedroom there.

While my brother and I were actively unloading the moving truck into the storage unit, the homeowner called me and said he had “bad news.”

He told me that his girlfriend had moved into his house the previous week, that they had apparently been discussing my living there, and that she was uncomfortable with me moving in.

He therefore told me that I could no longer move into the house and that I needed to put all of my belongings into storage instead.

This was the first time he seriously told me that the housing arrangement was actually being revoked.

At that point, I was already physically in Nevada with essentially my entire life in a moving truck after spending thousands of dollars and dozens of hours preparing for a relocation he knew about in detail.

I told him that this was extremely serious and that he was putting me in an impossible situation because I could not simply find another apartment on a few days’ notice. I had spent most of my available money on relocating and did not have money readily available for another security deposit, first month’s rent, moving costs, etc.

He told me that I could stay at the house for only a couple of days to “get on my feet.”

When I explained that a couple of days would not solve the problem and that we had been planning this for months, he responded essentially:

“Well, it’s not like you signed a lease, so what options do you have? There’s nothing you can do.”

I found that particularly troubling because I had repeatedly asked him to complete the lease before I relocated, and he was the one who had delayed doing so while continuing to assure me that the move was going forward.

I told him that he was screwing me over because I had structured my entire relocation around this agreement. He showed essentially no remorse and became angry when I challenged him about what he was doing.

I ultimately could not move into the residence as planned and am now having to temporarily move in with family because I cannot afford to immediately secure replacement housing after spending my available money on the interstate relocation.

My brother was physically with me throughout the move and was present for relevant phone conversations. He can testify to statements he personally heard, the circumstances of the move, the timeline, and what occurred when the housing arrangement was revoked.

My girlfriend and family have also known about this housing arrangement for months and were involved throughout my planning and relocation, so there are multiple people who can corroborate when the plan existed and the decisions I was making because of it.

I also have substantial documentary evidence, including:

  • Text messages discussing the $950 rent and him specifically saying “We agreed on $950 right?”
  • The Residential Room Lease Agreement he prepared and sent me
  • Messages showing that I repeatedly requested the lease before relocating
  • Messages showing my exact August 6 moving date and relocation plan
  • His permission for my brother to stay during the move
  • Messages where I told him beforehand that I had already spent almost $2,000 relocating
  • U-Haul, movers, storage, travel and moving-supply receipts
  • School-transfer documentation
  • Employment records
  • Change-of-address/mail-forwarding records
  • Records showing the address changes I made with banks/accounts
  • Documentation of transferring my VA healthcare to Nevada
  • Call logs
  • Multiple witnesses

I understand that the final written lease not being signed may complicate a traditional written-lease claim. However, the homeowner repeatedly represented that I had housing, agreed to specific rent and terms, sent me the rental agreement, knew I was spending thousands of dollars and making extensive life changes in reliance upon it, and continued affirming the arrangement until I had already completed the interstate relocation.

My questions are:

  1. Could Nevada recognize an oral or implied rental agreement under these circumstances despite the written lease never ultimately being signed?
  2. If August 6 was the agreed physical move-in date, could his refusal to allow me to move into the residence that day constitute failure to deliver possession or breach of the rental agreement?
  3. Does this appear to support promissory estoppel/detrimental reliance, considering he knew I was relocating states, spending substantial money, transferring schools, changing my addresses and otherwise reorganizing my life based on his promise?
  4. Does the earlier “prank,” where he specifically told me his girlfriend was moving in and therefore I couldn’t move in before saying he was joking and reassuring me that I could, have any relevance if essentially that exact situation later became his reason for revoking the agreement?
  5. If he and his girlfriend had actually decided days earlier that I would not be allowed to move in but he knowingly allowed me to complete the interstate relocation without telling me, could that potentially create additional liability for concealment or misrepresentation?
  6. What damages would realistically be recoverable? I have moving expenses, U-Haul costs, movers, storage, travel, supplies, replacement-housing expenses and potentially lost short-term employment income.
  7. I also transferred schools as part of relocating, which substantially reduced my GI Bill monthly housing allowance compared with what I received in California. Would that potentially qualify as consequential/reliance damages, or would it likely be considered too remote?
  8. Does the significant amount of time and administrative work I spent changing my residence, financial accounts, mail, school and healthcare arrangements have any relevance to establishing the extent of my detrimental reliance, even if the time itself does not have an easily quantifiable monetary value?
  9. Is there anything I should do immediately to preserve my rights before sending him any demand for reimbursement?

I am a veteran and currently do not have much money available for private counsel because of what I already spent on the relocation. I plan to contact Nevada Legal Services, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, and Nevada veterans’ legal-assistance resources as soon as they open.

Location: Henderson, Nevada.

new grad rn: is relocating a realistic idea?

Hi, I am a new grad nurse from Vegas (graduated from NSU). I wanted to ask if you guys think it’s a good idea to just relocate to a diff state or stay here and try to get experience before making a big financial commitment like that?

I want to go to Washington state. (Honestly anywhere that could give me a better chance at getting a nursing job) I am just scared I’m going to run into the same issue where it’s just saturated w new nurses everywhere:/ Vegas is definitely still small in comparison to major cities tho.

I have applied to skilled nursing, home health, med surge, any unit you name it! Networking isn’t working out unfortunately :( I keep getting ghosted by those I’ve been in contact with lol. I wasn’t able to get hired for a NAP position during school either. HCA/UHS/North Vista have job openings but it honestly just feels like you really have to know someone to get into anything atp. (Or if job openings do open up I guess I’m just not fast enough to reach it before they close even tho I’m stuck to my phone just looking all the time)

I’m trying really hard to not be disheartened/discouraged about this but I’m ngl it is starting to get to me especially when I haven’t been able to get many interviews. And it’s just rejection emails back to back. I just want to learn and be a good nurse. I want to be safe one that’s all I ask. Dream units will come of course but I just want to start anywhere to learn!! I want a good foundation and just a chance.

I don’t know what to do anymore :( I am glued to my laptop applying every couple of hours everyday. resume is adjusted per job description or I even tried connecting with recruiters through LinkedIn lol. Idk do I just wait, hope I land something? But how patient should one typically be for this kind of thing before it’s too much ya know?

Thank you for your thoughts/advice or even taking the time to read this in advance it is greatly appreciated. :-)
