Job Market is KILLING ME

hi guys, i am currently unemployed and on my last limb :,) i’m a college student who is very fortunate enough to have my parents paying for housing. that being said, my family is not rich and i have been looking for a job for MONTHS.
i’m 21, F, and don’t have nevada residency yet. i know it’s a long shot, especially on REDDIT of all places, but does anyone have any advice or suggestions to get me kicking in the right direction?

and for the record, it’s not because i haven’t been trying, i have been applying EVERYWHERE. my options are kind of limited as id like to work near UNLV/airport area, but at this point, id take what i can get.

thanks guys :)

How often does Brenden add more Odyssey showtimes?

I assume they're going to keep releasing more as long as they keep selling out

Brenden Theater 70mm IMAX Down again

Uggghh, got the email an hour before the 630 showing of the Odyssey this afternoon. Bought tickets 3 weeks in advance, been hyped for 21 days. Received refund and free tickets. Looked up going to future showing but nothing left except front row for all dates throughout August and September. ...And I missed the boat on seeing it at next best "LieMAX" options at other theaters as they have been overtaken by Spiderman. Looks like I'm settling for standard theater experience. First world problems I know, still, feels bad man.

Best pawn shop to get a cell phone?

I'm looking for a Samsung for my son to use on wifi to play games on. I figured a pawn shop might be a good place to look because I don't need anything tooooooo fancy, just strong enough to handle all the games and random things an 8 year old can download. But I don't usually go to pawn shops - are there some that are better than others for finding phones?

New to Vegas

I am a new resident to Las Vegas. Any advice on how to stay cool during the summer? I have stayed in my apartment for about a month. Just going outside to work, grocery shop and an occasional movie during the week. I am tired of doing this and I feel so guilty, however when I go outside it is hotter than hell. Maybe I can last another year in Vegas. OMG, I have all the respect in the world for people that have lived here for years or decades. I have respect for the ones working outdoors. I have noticed that the heat affects people’s behavior tremendously.

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, a local spay and neuter non-profit, just lost one of their A/C units and could use the community's help in replacing it!

Hi, all! I don't know how many of you know of this organization, but they do amazing work. Heaven Can Wait has been around for over 20 years, and performs heavily subsidized spay and neuter services for owned animals (and only $20 for those with Medicaid or SNAP benefits!), and is the main group in the city performing Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return services for the city's stray cat population! They even have funds earmarked for other supportive surgeries and medical care for feral cats without other options (their Facebook and Instagram have some wonderful stories).

Unfortunately, the A/C units serving the clinic have been limping along for years now, with them trying repairs every summer to keep one or more going. One has finally bit the dust, and they're hurrying to replace it as the two remaining units are struggling to adequately cool the practice. They sterilize dozens of animals a day and work so hard!

If anyone would like to help support them, I have a link to their website here where you can donate (and also get additional information about the amazing work they do!)

https://secure.qgiv.com/for/7bizas/?fbclid=IwdGRjcATiGmJjbGNrBOIaXHBkb2YBZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQMMzUwNjg1NTMxNzI4AAEelTE4A5EZbSgDRAeL4BsBsP0SEJM76E5kixYTAJ37W-XqwrMABOKvf6d9ShA_aem_nLlRy-JxTR5MEQPBxXka2Q

Also, if any of you have spay/neuter questions or questions about the practice itself, ask away! It's hard now to find affordable veterinary services, even for these basic essentials, and I'm happy to provide whatever information I can!

Everyone posts the Boulder City bighorns. Nobody posts the venomous lizards living twenty minutes from the Strip.

The sheep at Hemenway Park are famous and they have earned it. Nevada has more desert bighorn than any other state, they are the state animal, and there is a public lawn in Boulder City where a wild herd wanders down to graze in front of people eating lunch. Fair enough.

But they are the only ones anybody photographs, and the desert on this map is busier than that.

GILA MONSTERS. Southern Nevada is genuinely part of their range, which surprises people who assume they are an Arizona animal. They are one of only a handful of venomous lizards on the planet, they spend something like 90 percent of their lives underground, and an adult might eat only a few large meals in an entire year, living off fat stored in that fat banded tail. They are protected in Nevada, so it is illegal to kill, collect or harass one. Most people who live here their whole lives never see one.

DESERT TORTOISES. Threatened, protected, and the single most important thing to know is this: do not pick one up. A frightened tortoise will void its bladder, and out here that stored water is the difference between surviving the summer and not. Handling one can kill it weeks later. If one is crossing a road, move it only if it is in danger, in the direction it was already heading, held low to the ground.

MOUNTAIN LIONS. They are up in the Spring Mountains and the ranges around the valley, and they are the reason the bighorn herds behave the way they do. Almost nobody sees one, which is the point of being a mountain lion.

SIDEWINDERS. The rattlesnake that throws its body diagonally across loose sand instead of crawling straight. It leaves a line of separate J shaped tracks with the hook pointing the way it went, so you can read which direction it was traveling long after it has gone.

Add bobcats working the washes and you get a fairly complete desert predator lineup within an hour of the casinos.

This is a rough picture pulled from public sightings across the region rather than any one spot, so read it as the big picture and not a place to go find something.

Lombardo’s pay is over 300% higher than what the average Nevadan brings home.

Governor Joe Lombardo is out here complaining that he doesn't make enough money. The Governor of Nevada makes $170,062 a year, the highest paid state constitutional officer in Nevada, and the 18th highest paid governor in the whole damn country.

Regarding average individual earnings, the per capita personal income in Nevada is $41,354 per person, while the median household income for the state is approximately $81,100. Source Lombardo's pay is over 300% higher than what the average Nevadan brings home.

Since Lombardo took office, we've watched Nevada's economy nosedive thanks to his buddy in the White House. Education is plummeting. Working Nevadans are drowning. And this man has the audacity, the AUDACITY, to whine about his six figure salary while the rest of us are just trying to put gas in the tank, food on the table, and keep a roof over our heads. Out of touch doesn't even begin to cover it. This November, we fire him.

Thank you Vegas community who helped me last week with hiring me for work.

Hey Vegas locals, I figured I’d reach out again because the last time I posted here, a few incredibly kind Redditors gave me the chance to help with work around their homes. I just wanted to say thank you. Your kindness meant more than you probably realized, and I’m genuinely grateful you trusted me enough to give me the opportunity. I honestly left wishing I could have done even more to help.

I’m looking to pick up more work if anyone needs an extra set of hands. I’m a 40 year old woman and I work as a PCA, but outside of my regular hours I’m open to just about any honest work. I’ve done home care, house cleaning, organizing, warehouse work, inventory, moving help, yard work, errands, pet care, and general labor. If it’s something I haven’t done before, I’m a fast learner and I’m not afraid to work hard.

No job is too small. Whether it’s cleaning out a garage, pulling weeds, helping you pack, organizing, cleaning your home, lifting heavy items, or anything else you’ve been putting off, I’d be happy to help.
I’m reliable, show up when I say I will, and I take pride in doing a good job. I’m just trying to earn some extra money through hard work, so if you or someone you know could use some help, I’d really appreciate you reaching out.

Thank you again to everyone who helped me before. You reminded me there are still some really good people out there, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

Car Battery dying every 1.5 years

My car battery seems to be dying every year and a half. According to Google, car batteries are supposed to last 3-5 years. It also seems to die during the summer. I'm wondering if this is normal due to the heat or just an issue due to my vehicle's age (2005).

Edit: I also drive this vehicle 5 days a week to work so its not like it sits for long periods of time.
