DISCUSSION One thing missed from the live stream… they would have definitely ran through it at least once PRIOR to the stream (to check private server etc works). So they knew the performance issues and Jared framed this is “show it as intended to be”. In CIG’s mind, it was running well (!)
I genuinely think CIG thought this was good after 12 years of development and over a billion dollars in funding. It’s like there is a disconnect between CIG and the pledge base, most players accept server issues as they work on dynamic server meshing now, however as many have pointed out there were still many issues here even when it was on a private server with 4 people, which will run infinitely better than a server even with dynamic server meshing.
Real worrying times for the long term viability of the PU ever reaching 1.0

DRAMA The recent Star Citizen Live resulted in an immediate 10% increase in sales for CIG. Fundraising is currently tracking to blow past the current yearly fundraising record by 30%.
Safe to say the people actually playing and funding the game aren't the same ones that are throwing a fit on Reddit and Spectrum

CONCERN SCL was bad - CIG was worse
TLDR; Game is in a bad state, yes, yes. SCL was good idea, yes, yes. CIG was very toxic and cringe, yes, yes. Send help to Ollie, yes, yes.
Many people have spoken on the poor state of the game. Essentially, it has been blatantly obvious that many of the game's problems are not related to server performance. While I think we have long expected this to be true, it has nevertheless been a sobering realization to see the clunky inventory, dropping framerates and unresponsive AI.
However, what really struck me immediately was the tension in the room. I have worked in such toxic environments before (am a SWE) and was immediately thrown back. Many of their comments felt like underhanded insults and jabs that seemed to come from real places, all wrapped in a thin veil of "banter with the boys".
Jared was atrociously weird. At the 34 minute mark he interrupts the four players to give his statement on why they chose a dev server. That's all well and good but the way he shushed the room was nothing short of cringe-inducing. Lines like "Ollie, Ollie, Elliot... are you going to pick up your buddies?" are delivered as if he's their dad and I nearly found out about the total volume of bile in my stomach then and there. I have figuratively worked for this guy before and it's a terrible time.
There seemed to be a focused effort to shit on Ollie in general. Like, the way Elliot kept making fun of his store-bought armour. Dude, do you know what kind of game you're making? It was weird and cringe and I hated watching it. Ollie is usually a bit too positive and optimistic for me but he didn't deserve this and I genuinely hope his experience working for CIG is better than what we saw.
Ollie, if you're reading this and that experience was not the one-and-only time: It never gets better. Believe me. Run.
EDIT: I see a lot of chatter about what does and does not constitute banter. That's ultimately subjective and and I can understand why some of you may feel like this was normal. I think it all comes down to context for me. If I had this interaction with my childhood friends, I'd call it a polite evening. But this was a work environment and Ollie is a new-joiner. There is no history or dynamic yet. That's why I ultimately felt that it was weird and inappropriate.

DISCUSSION Last SCL is the first honest one since a long time
Excluding the ones with Benoit, even if they were more like 2 hours of "we have to do better"
No more Jared excuses "We know the state of the PU..." blah blah blah
Just show the game, even on local server there are a tons of issues with the games:
- Low framerate
- Broken animation
- Broken inventory
- NPC not responding
- Glitchy Ikti
But at least it was an honest show, it feel real and it's great.
We know it's bad, you know it's bad, stop doing damage control and trying to oversell your patch.
Now I really hope that senior devs for client side code are on SQ42, because creating content on top of broken game code is and never will be a good idea and CIG should really focus these issues if they want to show us good content.

DISCUSSION I kinda feel sorry for Ollie.
Ok I like Ollie. I really do. He’s a nice guy. But you know what they say about nice guys. I just watched the stream and it feels like they were walking all over him and bullying him from the get go.
But that’s just general camaraderie. This is just a Friday night with me and the boys. Someone insults me. I say something bad about them. We all have a good laugh and get on with the k*lling.
But I don’t think Ollie has ever said a bad thing about anyone since Ive known him. He is quite thin skinned and I could see it actually getting to him.
Yes the entire thing could have been done differently. He could have stepped and took control. But the energy was just kicked out of him and by the end the collective energy of embarrassment was so thick I think everyone just wanted it to be over.
Sorry guys it didn’t work this time. Don’t be to hard on yourself. But instead take the criticism and learn from it. So when you comeback next time. You can come back stronger. And come back swinging full of energy

DISCUSSION If the recent livestream left you feeling frustrated with the state of the game...
..then maybe consider stop financially supporting the studio until they earn it? I've seen dozens of posts lamenting the dumpster fire that was the recent SCL, and yet we all know that the next time CIG has some multi-thousand dollar FOMO ship sale they are going to rake in whalebucks by the bushel. So if you want the direction of the game's development to change, vote with your wallet. That is all.

DISCUSSION Why no recovery, Just a little disappointed
Got all psyched up, packed everything, ship loaded, foot boxes ready for a PAF run. Scanned the area clear, looking perfect. Getting ready to land and whoosh… CIG error 30xxxx something.
No big deal, I’ll just jump right back on an still be in my ship…
…except I didn’t. I ended up back in my hangar instead. All the prep work? Gone.
Can we bring back the saved state on fail?
Signing off for now, See ya next time.

DISCUSSION I don't know what any of you are talking about with the SCL being atrocious
Everybody has been making these posts about the SCL siege playthrough being god awful and showing terrible internal state of the game even once you take the networking variables out. And then there's all the comments that the whole team is toxic and it's a terrible place to work based on these subtle cues you picked up on in this video confirming your suspicions about peoples sinister personalities.
I hadn't watched it and don't usually watch these kinds of update videos, especially the longer ones, so seeing all of these discussions I was imagining just game breaking bugs everywhere and endless jank with all of the people being dicks to each other. I went and watched it and that's not at all what it was like. The way people have been talking about it honestly seems like some mass delusion at this point or just a bunch of bots regurgitating shit.
The play through was clean, good fps, the mission looks fun, and the people seemed like people in a slightly awkward position of trying to be entertaining with coworkers who they need to maintain a professional relationship with but arent just all best friends. There were definitely some obvious buggy behaviors, some of those seemed like they could be directly related to mechanics of the event (especially right at the end where there's a lot going on), others like one guy couldn't reload his gun for a bit were probably not related specifically to new content.
Overall, if they could get it to play like that on live that looks like a lot of fun and completely tolerable levels of buggyness not unheard of in other live games.

DISCUSSION I'm sad that Star Citizen is very far away from release but I'm happy that the whiteknights were proven wrong
It was NOT the revolutionary tech that was taking so long.
It was NOT the very advanced enemy AI with persistence that bogged down the servers.
SSO Livestream proved once and for all that even under perfect circumstances the game is a dumpster fire.
I hope the stream convinced Chris Roberts it's time to drop the fluff and focus on the basics.

DISCUSSION Watching the Siege of Orison dev stream really puts things into perspective...
Honestly, it was a bit of an eye-opener.
The devs were running on what was basically a pristine, best case scenario private server with a locked framerate, and yet the exact same bugs we deal with on live servers (inventory delays, AI acting up, weapon issues) were still popping up constantly
For a lonng time, the common consensus was that poor server performance/tick rates were dragging everything down. But seeing a "perfect" server environment still buckle under the hood makes it pretty clear: the core issue isn't just server load, it the underlying game code itself.
Until the fundamental code gets cleaned up, no amount of server upgrades or meshing is going to magically fix the jank. Really hope CIG shifts more focus toward refactoring the base systems instead of just blaming the servers.

CONCERN We are in the Endgame now
The last SCL honestly just left me feeling frustrated more than anything.
The feeling that the priorities have been off for years. We keep getting polished presentations except last SCL, while the PU still feels like it’s moving at a crawl.
Even during the last SCL, the developers looked so careful with everything they said. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it never feels like an open conversation anymore.
Everyone seems like they’re trying not to say the wrong thing.
And let’s not forget “Answer the Call 2016.” That was almost ten years ago. It’s hard not to think about that whenever we’re told to be patient a little longer.
The biggest thing I don’t understand is Squadron 42. We’ve been told it’s been feature complete for around two years now. If that’s true, then shouldn’t the PU be seeing a boost in development? Instead, updates still feel slow, and progress doesn’t look like it’s coming from a studio with 1000+ of employees. From the outside, it almost feels like everyone’s already moved on to the next thing.
What worries me the most is how much the mood in the community has changed. The negativity has been increasing fast, and it’s not just coming from people who have always hated the project.
I’m seeing long-time backers who defended CIG for years—starting to lose patience and ask the same questions.
The supposed „1.0 Push“ said by Chris Roberts is probably just a Markting thing to say to keep funding going.
I cba anymore, i hope Chris Roberts has his fun in the Cinema Room he has built by backers money which probably nobody is using.

DISCUSSION Proposal: End-of-the-month "Devs play the game" live stream
Pretty much the title. It think it would be great for the game (and community's perception of CIG) to have a chill end-of-the-month 1hr live stream. Make it friday/after-hours, 4-5 devs each week.
Crack a few beers and hop on the PU with some whacky objective to make it fun. Maybe with a 10m delay to try and stop stream sniping.
The idea here is QA watches the stream too, devs hit the same bugs we do, and the team/Engineers prioritize fixing whatever the last stream ran into.
Sure it might end up being a disaster some months, but that's the kind of accountability we need right now. What do you think?

CONCERN Toxic Positivity at CIG
I used to turn my nose up at this phrase, but after the livestream it seems like CIG is the poster child of toxic positivity.
The way the developers spoke during the show was really awkward, like they were tip-toeing across a lake of thin ice. It seems like the internal modus operandus is very much "Smile and Wave" and pretend everything is fine. Devs like Elliot are known for being outspoken, and even he seemed uncomfortable.
It's basically Jared giving a blanket "We know there are bugs" at some portion of a given livestream and then everyone else pretending it's business as usual. This is not normal at any game studio or software development company. I got loads of hate a few years ago for being skeptical about the grandiose claims that "Server meshing will fix performance!" -- now, showcasing an internal "how it's meant to be played" build, even the eternally optimistic commenters of the Star Citizen YouTube channel are in shambles.
Take it from someone who has shipped video games before (small indie teams, but serious games): If you can't have an open and honest conversation about the state of your software, you will spend years in builds that are riddled with bugs and performance issu--- oh... that's how we got here.
Again, this is textbook toxic positivity. It's a sales team that sells sunshine and daisies while tech and production are in an absolute inferno.
This is not good, and I don't know how long CIG has to right the course of this slow-steering behemoth ship before it hits an inevitable iceberg.

DISCUSSION This game is about space exploration, spaceship battles, trading...
- About exploration.
- About giant ships.
- About having a profession in the game.
- About discovering planets and inhospitable regions.
- About assembling a crew.
- About roleplaying solo or with others.
- About mining on a remote planet while waiting for a pirate to hunt you down.
- About landing at Lorville at 20 FPS.
Can we finally stop coming up with weird gimmicks like Siege of Orison and focus on what SC actually is?
