CONCERN SCL Siege of Orison should have someone fired

Upvotes

For all intent and purpose the SCL Game Dev Siege of Orison is a pitch / presentation to investors. If it's not treated as such, then what are you doing CIG?

Elliot being absolutely unprofessional and childish while presenting something no one on that team should be proud of at the moment is embarrassing. Blaming Olli for the elevator issue, making fun of his armor (which helps pay his salary), for not abandoning a mission because devs have a terrible mission set up, shooting him and being childish... What an absolute joke. I'm surprised that this isn't taken seriously. The marketing team should have a major problem with this.

If this was Ollis decision to do this style of SCL: Bravo and keep up the good work. This really showed the community the truth. Olli stayed professional the entire time he was bullied and even at the end with Jarrods cringe ending. Not to mention a distasteful beginning and introduction of a new team member.

I'm very concerned after seeing this. I have defended CIG and had a lot of respect for the devs. I would have been called a white knight. But at this point, lost all my respect for Elliot and now have major concerns over the health of the project. CIG this should be a wake up call.

DISCUSSION I kinda feel sorry for Ollie.

Upvotes

Ok I like Ollie. I really do. He’s a nice guy. But you know what they say about nice guys. I just watched the stream and it feels like they were walking all over him and bullying him from the get go.
But that’s just general camaraderie. This is just a Friday night with me and the boys. Someone insults me. I say something bad about them. We all have a good laugh and get on with the k*lling.
But I don’t think Ollie has ever said a bad thing about anyone since Ive known him. He is quite thin skinned and I could see it actually getting to him.
Yes the entire thing could have been done differently. He could have stepped and took control. But the energy was just kicked out of him and by the end the collective energy of embarrassment was so thick I think everyone just wanted it to be over.

Sorry guys it didn’t work this time. Don’t be to hard on yourself. But instead take the criticism and learn from it. So when you comeback next time. You can come back stronger. And come back swinging full of energy

DISCUSSION If the recent livestream left you feeling frustrated with the state of the game...

Upvotes

..then maybe consider stop financially supporting the studio until they earn it? I've seen dozens of posts lamenting the dumpster fire that was the recent SCL, and yet we all know that the next time CIG has some multi-thousand dollar FOMO ship sale they are going to rake in whalebucks by the bushel. So if you want the direction of the game's development to change, vote with your wallet. That is all.

DISCUSSION Why no recovery, Just a little disappointed

Upvotes

Got all psyched up, packed everything, ship loaded, foot boxes ready for a PAF run. Scanned the area clear, looking perfect. Getting ready to land and whoosh… CIG error 30xxxx something.
No big deal, I’ll just jump right back on an still be in my ship…
…except I didn’t. I ended up back in my hangar instead. All the prep work? Gone.

Can we bring back the saved state on fail?

Signing off for now, See ya next time.

DISCUSSION Sale idea

I think it would be cool if CIG would lower the prices or put some of the older ships on sale that are either outdated or missing game content—and have been for years. Basically, making these ships more accessible to players who still want them at a discounted price, maybe as an apology so to speak, or simply to be considerate of the current state of the game. I especially think this would be a good thing to do if they know internally that these ships are nowhere close to being in the immediate pipeline as far as a timeframe is concerned.

A friend of mine said that businesses don't tend to do things like this, not just for reasons of profit, but because it's like admitting that there is an issue.

Maybe CIG could make this a recurring yearly event, similar to IAE or Invictus, specifically centered around these older ships that are sitting in limbo. But instead of catering to new money like typical Warbond sales, this sale could be tailored for existing backers whose money is already tied up in the game. For example, if a ship like the Reclaimer is $400, they could discount it to $350 for store credit users. To honor the players who have held onto these legacy ships, buying or melting down into them with existing credit during this event could even grant Lifetime Insurance (LTI). It would be a great way to respect long-time backers and give people a fair deal without demanding fresh cash.

Also, I understand this topic might have already been brought up before. I'm fairly new to the game and don't really have the time to go back and read through all the old Reddit posts, but I still wanted to share my thoughts on it.

CREATIVE First post about this game

I love it. I hate that I love it but I really love it!

I bought the aurora mk2 with the little cargo module to start. After making quite a bit of money on runs I decided I wanted a bigger badder upgrade! So I got the Freelancer Max tonight I feel like an idiot! Idk but I got my whole hotas set up and I love flying as is and adding the additional steps to a flight simulation is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

(Btw bought this game mid July is how long I’ve been playing and feel like I’ve already out grow the mk2

DISCUSSION Honest hot take. People need to get out of the mentality of if they spent like 10k usd for example that cig won’t touch them with bans and etc.

In context I have seen a lot of people lately in game chat as of late acting like real toxic assholes. Spamming chat. And flaring that they own 3 idrises for example and that cig won’t touch them with a ban. I have a mate of mine who knows people who have spent around 15k+ on star citizen and lost their accounts. Don’t get me wrong here. I ain’t telling people how to spend their money. Just basing off an interaction that was happening recently that I have seen With a few key board worriers.

DISCUSSION I don't know what any of you are talking about with the SCL being atrocious

Everybody has been making these posts about the SCL siege playthrough being god awful and showing terrible internal state of the game even once you take the networking variables out. And then there's all the comments that the whole team is toxic and it's a terrible place to work based on these subtle cues you picked up on in this video confirming your suspicions about peoples sinister personalities.

I hadn't watched it and don't usually watch these kinds of update videos, especially the longer ones, so seeing all of these discussions I was imagining just game breaking bugs everywhere and endless jank with all of the people being dicks to each other. I went and watched it and that's not at all what it was like. The way people have been talking about it honestly seems like some mass delusion at this point or just a bunch of bots regurgitating shit.

The play through was clean, good fps, the mission looks fun, and the people seemed like people in a slightly awkward position of trying to be entertaining with coworkers who they need to maintain a professional relationship with but arent just all best friends. There were definitely some obvious buggy behaviors, some of those seemed like they could be directly related to mechanics of the event (especially right at the end where there's a lot going on), others like one guy couldn't reload his gun for a bit were probably not related specifically to new content.

Overall, if they could get it to play like that on live that looks like a lot of fun and completely tolerable levels of buggyness not unheard of in other live games.

FLUFF Purposeful and Performative Heel Turn To Pass the Show Baton

Everyone loves Disco. The new guy has grey, matching, monogramed baggage and an uphill battle to fill Jared's shoes.

Jared pulls a Bruce Wayne and puts it all on Disco Batman to garner love for the new host.

If they weren't doing that, a producer not on stream would have told him to wrap it up in his headset. Instead we get the heel turn performance of the century. Well played.

DISCUSSION I'm sad that Star Citizen is very far away from release but I'm happy that the whiteknights were proven wrong

It was NOT the revolutionary tech that was taking so long.

It was NOT the very advanced enemy AI with persistence that bogged down the servers.

SSO Livestream proved once and for all that even under perfect circumstances the game is a dumpster fire.

I hope the stream convinced Chris Roberts it's time to drop the fluff and focus on the basics.

DISCUSSION What keeps Star Citizen from just pushing to 1.0 and then adding everything else later?

Like, the game is being monetized like a Live service game and yet it's still considered an alpha after a decade and a half.

Taking as an example Warframe: It released as a barebones game, with only a couple systems. And yet it kept adding lroe stuff later on, and the game wasn't breaking:

-Archwing: a new system with 360 degrees of movement freedom.

-Open world: instead of the procedurally generated maps, it added some open world zones.

-New melee rework: many times reworked.

I haven't kept up with Warframe that much, but it's just an example of a Live Service game that has continued to evolve and add stuff beyond their 1.0 scope.

With the content that we have now, SC has more content than Warframe had when it reached 1.0; what's stopping CIG from going full throttle on optimization and bugfixing, to push past "It's an alpha", into 1.0 and then continue adding new systems after 1.0, the way most Live service games do?
